JUNIOR GIRLS’ REVIEW 2014/2015
From the Head...
If we could hear these pages speak they would talk of adventure,
exploration, expression of new ideas and engagement in new learning.
The pupils’ personal achievements sit comfortably alongside collective
efforts and aspirations. Engaging young minds and providing opportunities
to explore a wide variety of themes and ideas is key to all we do. Hesketh
House is a place of learning and personal growth where the focus is on
showing resilience, personal endeavour and courage to face challenges
with a growth mindset to match. We pave the way to future success on the
understanding that all pupils will somewhere, somehow make a difference
by virtue of their Bolton School education.
The journey is a colourful and rich one offering excitement and fun along
the way and I truly hope you will enjoy scanning these pages as testament
to all we strive to do each and every day.

BOLTON SCHOOL JUNIOR GIRLS
Ambassadors
Spring Term
This year, Hesketh House introduced the Ambassadors. The role gives all of the Year 6
pupils the opportunity to carry extra responsibilities and serve the School in their final
year as Junior Girls.
Ambassadors are expected at all times to reflect the values of Hesketh House: respect,
honesty, kindness, resilience and responsibility. Their duties are diverse and include
welcoming visitors and providing tours, sorting lost property and helping to return items,
acting as playground mentors and assisting playground staff. Girls in the role also help to
celebrate and represent the Junior Girls’ School at events throughout the year.
All of the Year 6 girls set a good example for other pupils, who will also aspire to be
Ambassadors in future years and play their part.

School Celebrates
100/500 Anniversaries
In 2015-2016, Bolton School is celebrating 100 years of the Foundation on its present site
and 500 years of education in Bolton. In 1915, Lord Leverhulme brought together Bolton
Grammar School for Boys and Bolton High School for Girls under one foundation, split into
the Girls’ and Boys’ Divisions that still exist today. In 1516, Bolton Grammar School for Boys
was recorded as “a going concern” in what is the earliest known reference to the school
that would become part of the Bolton School Foundation, and also the first record of a
school in Bolton. The Junior Girls’ School has been involved in a number of commemorative
events this year, helping to celebrate the first of these very special anniversaries.
Two pupils in Hesketh
House composed the song
‘Thank You Lord Leverhulme’
to celebrate the School’s
benefactor. This piece
was performed by the
whole school at the
Summer Concert

Port Sunlight
The whole of the Junior Girls’ School took a
day trip to Port Sunlight for an amazing heritage
lesson. The village was built for Sunlight Soap
workers in 1888 by William Hesketh Lever, who
went on to become the School’s best-known
benefactor, Lord Leverhulme. The visit allowed
the girls to learn more about Lord Leverhulme
and Lady Lever, as well as giving them an insight
into Edwardian and Victorian life.
Foundation Family Fun Day
The Bolton School Foundation
Family Festival saw the Parents’
Association of the Infant School,
the two Junior Schools and the
two Senior Schools work together
to produce a spectacular
afternoon of fun for families and
friends of the School. There were
stalls, games, activities and events
for the whole family to enjoy,
and the atmosphere throughout
was exhilarating.
Pupils took part in the Great Junior Bake-Off
as part of the celebrations

Tower to raise money for charity
