Application note T420/IQ
T400 tachometers measure and monitor frequencies (speed proportional values) within the range 0 to 35000 Hz.
T411/T412 dispose on a display which indicates the measured rpm value. T420 is needed only as a relais switch
with definable frequencies. Operating manuals and application note are available on request from Jaquet AG.

Jaquet Sensors comply to Class C1, that means a power supply reduction to 0.6xUn during 100ms. A
class C2 of power supply change over would generate a power restart of device T400 series. But no
failure can be generated in that case.

(working time > 3000 hours, continuous working of T400, power supply voltage = Un)

EN 50155 - 4.1.2 Proof reliability
The proof reliability values are not available, because of non established and required reliability
monitoring processes with and by the customers. This means at this time, no information about service
hours for the different T400 series variants are available.
EN 50155 - 4.2 Useful life
Jaquet confirms 20 years as useful life duration. During this period single pixel errors may occur on LCD
display, but that does not influence basic functionallity. The user shall take this in consideration for the
replacement plan.
EN 50155 - 4.3 Maintainability
Jaquet T400 series have no maintenance requirements.
Device shall not be exposed to strong acids. Strong contamination can affect visibility of display. Clean
display of T411/T412 with light moist cleaning rag only.
EN 50155 - 4.4.1 On-vehicle diagnosis
Only T420 delivers a input which can be used for test procedure.

EN 50155 - 4.4.2 Off-vehicle diagnosis
Only in-house at Jaquet AG possible.
Each device of T400 series is 1:1 replaceable.
EN 50155 - 4.5 Built-in diagnostics
T400 series is equiped with internal watchdog which observes complete funcionallity of device.
With external PC through RS232 communication port all information can be indicated.

EN 50155 - 5.1.2 Life cycle
The Jaquet design life cycle model is described in QM-manual, chapter 5, according to SN EN ISO
9001:2000.
EN 50155 - 5.2.1 Interfacing
T400 series galvanic seperation are specified at 500VAC / 700VDC for power supply, current output and
sensor power supply in their operating manual.
EMC immunity and emission levels are also documented in each operating instruction, as the shild and
signal reference wiring.
All Jaquet T400 series are driven below 60V range, so European guidleine73/23/EWG is not applicable,
meaning no danger for personal occurs with these voltages.
EN 50155 - 5.2.2 Fault protection
All Jaquet T400 series are protected against permanent short circuit on current output and V+ output
(supply for sensor).
All Jaquet T400 series are protected against permanent reverse polarity in the voltage domain defined
by their supply voltage range. T411 and T412 do as well contain a fuse of 800mAT (normal polarity input
supply).
Relais connections are potential floating.
Current output, V+ output, Relais connections and Bin input are all electrically insulated, dc decoupled
against each other.
A manual resetting of T400 series is reached by powering off supply.
EN 50155 - 5.2.3 Referring power supplies
Not applicable, this is a requirement for power supplies.
EN 50155 - 5.2.4 Interchangeability
Not applicable, these requirement concern modular systems which contain single replaceable elements.
EN 50155 - 5.2.5 Reduction of power supply voltage
Output levels are all within specification while input voltage.
Jaquet T400 series suffer no damage by reducing power supply voltage. If power supply voltage drops
below 4.6V, microcontroller will be resettet and started again if supply raises over hysteresis voltage of
resetting device.

Process of software development is according ISO 9001 which includes definition phase, specification,
implementation, testing and integration to hardware. Detailed software enginering documentation are
filed at Jaquet engineering department and can be viewed on demand.
“PC-Software for Tachometers T400“ can be used to configure Jaquet’s T400 series (relais control,
measuring range, measuring time, output range, machine factor, setpoints, etc.) through RS232
interface. For detailed description on configuration management see the according operating manual
stated in chapter 1. Scope of Jaquet’s T400 series.

T400 series are checked in ROM at startup and EEPROM during running system.

T400 series are observing current output, power supply and microcontroller self test is made at startup.

Microcontroller inside of T400 series is equipped with watchdog that resettes software if undefined
status appears.
EN 50155 - 5.4.4 Error indication
Status LED on T400 shows working condition of device. Relais can be configurated as error indication.
EN 50155 - 5.4.5 Recovery
In case of a system reset through watchdog, T400 series recovers completely, all functions are reloaded
and reinitialized.
