Goals and Challenges
In October 2012, the Astro Radio New Media & Development team decided to have
a full revamp of all 10 of their radio station websites to increase listener
engagement through all platforms (on-air, Web and mobile) and all devices.
The team decided to boost their knowledge and challenge their expertise by
building responsive websites using Kentico CMS 5.5 R2, starting with hitz.fm.
Solution
To truly engage all listeners, the team had to be able to adapt to the huge variety
of devices available and their multiple screens sizes. Leveraging the responsive
design features of Kentico allowed them to make the most use of available screen
real estate. Being able to provide optimal layout for all devices, and offering
improved readability without the need for pinching the screen to zoom or requiring
any screen gestures at all, means that Astro Radio are able to offer the best
possible user experience to their visitors.
Now extremely simple to identify the content people want on a given page, it is just
as easy for users to access it from their mobile device. The use of media queries
allows the loading of four views based on the screen resolution of the device that
the user visits the sites from.

This has been an extremely fun project and the results and feedback have been
amazing— confirmation that this move towards the future of web design was
a wise initiative to pursue.

Kentico CMS eased development, and the team’s experience, together with their
confidence in the platform, enabled the development of all 10 websites in less than
20 working days! And this included integration with our Radio Station’s systems &
backend too. We are the first Radio Station to have launched responsive design
radio websites in Malaysia.
