alaysia is looking at establishing a Nation Branding Blueprint to
raise its reputation and boost commercial success. At IOI Group, we are
also constantly improving on our brand positioning through improvement
programmes and campaigns.
Besides strengthening our current corporate identity, our property division
is strategising its property development plan to transform itself from an
integrated township developer into a high-end property developer. One of its
rebranding initiatives is to transform IOI Resort into a business and entertainment
hub with green features – IOI Resort City. In this issue, we will unveil the
newly refurbished 18-hole Palm Garden Golf Course located at IOI Resort City.
Find out more about this new gem in town in our cover feature.
At the beginning of 2012, IOI had taken its regional property ambition
further by acquiring a piece of land near Clementi town centre in Singapore
for the development of condominium project. This Clementi project will be
IOI’s fifth property development in Singapore since its first foray into Singapore’s
property market in 2007 (page 15).
In the plantation sector, IOI Group has successfully attained the Roundtable
on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) Supply Chain Certification for its supply chain
units in January 2012 (page 06). Meanwhile one more operating unit, Baturong
Palm Oil Mill and its supplying estates have also received the International
Standard for Carbon Certification (ISCC) for complying with the ISCC System
GmbH certification system in February. To date, six palm oil mills and their
supplying estates in Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia have been awarded the
ISCC (page 07).
This year, IOI Group continues our pledge to support the Earth Hour 2012
movement. In this issue, we report the various Go Green initiatives organised
by the various business entities of IOI Group during our Earth Month in March.
Find the related stories in the various segments of this newsletter.
Sustainability and Go Green initiatives are more than
just slogans. They should be embedded into our operations
and become an integral part of our company’s DNA but it
will require a concerted effort from everyone to undergo a
behaviour change process.
Everyone does play a role in saving the planet for our
future generation.

A
s an internationally recognised golf course which was voted
one of the Top Golf Courses in Malaysia in a Course Poll in
2007/2008 and accorded the Best Customer Service Award in 2001
and 2007, the Palm Garden Golf Club is a firm favourite among avid
golf members who enjoy the 27-hole course for its distinctive golfing
experience amidst breathtaking views.

In an effort to offer a distinctly superior golfing experience, the
Palm Garden Golf Club was redesigned and rebuilt by one of the
most prominent Australian golf architects, Mr Ted Parslow.
The new 18-hole golf course, touted as the first premier public
golf course, has quickly garnered the likes of politicians, golf patrons,
bankers, corporate figures and even DYMM Tuanku Raja Perlis even
before it was officially launched on 1 April 2012. DYMM Tuanku Raja
Perlis who has golfed there only twice has chosen it to be his playing
ground for an upcoming tournament in June 2012.
Mr Ted Parslow has rebuilt the golf course with the best
ingredients to make it one of the most anticipated courses in the
country. As a founder member of the Society of Australian Golf
Course Architects and a strong advocate for professionalism and
integrity, Mr Parslow’s distinctive touch is seen in some of the most
highly-acclaimed golf courses including Kuala Lumpur Golf and
Country Club, Glenmarie Golf and Country Club, Dalit Bay Golf and
Country Club in Sabah and Jurong Country Club in Singapore.
The construction works started in 2007, beginning with the
9-hole Putra course that paved the way for the upcoming IOI City
Mall. Within the last two years, Mr Parslow, together with veteran
shaper Mr Gary Cox, have created a balanced mixture of length and
elevation challenges with the remaining land.
The new golf course is sand-capped and provides 18 holes spread
over 125 acres of rolling greens with plenty of undulations, mounds
and swales. Narrow and undulating, unlike the previous golf course
which was long and wide, the new course has been elevated to
approximately 20 metres at the highest point, especially from the
18th tee box.

Despite the lack of length, the new course can indeed prove to
be a challenge to the inaccurate. The par 5s require absolute accuracy
and when the wind blows hard, golfers will find that even the par 4s
will be quite an unforgettable affair. Another trying feat for golf
enthusiasts will be the Hole 10 which is a mind-blowing par 5
featuring an uphill terraced fairway ascending 10 metres. Here, any
bad shot and poor second shot will be unforgivable.
As golfers tee off, they will find the new golf course to be a
fresh welcome as the scenic view has been enhanced and the
landscape beautified. According to General Manager of the new
Palm Garden Golf Club Mr Brandon Chin, three million cubic
metres of earthworks were moved and more than 4,000 trees were
transplanted to form a natural terrain of spectacular resort-feel
along the 6,027-metre course.

With 39 years of experience, Mr Parslow who is a handicap 7
golfer, has a solid knowledge of our climatic conditions. As a result,
he has creatively transformed the golf course into a “thinking course”
that truly stimulates and tests the mind, skill and dexterity of any
player. He has rebuilt the course into a high standard of playing
ground with high-lipped bunkers in place and every hole made to be
unique and distinctly challenging. To score well, shots will have to
be strategized well and practically each club in the bag will have to
be used wisely.
The main attraction will be its memorable closing signature
Hole 18, a prime delight which sets this golf course apart from any
other mundane golf experience. Hole 18, with its peninsula green,
plays 10 metres downhill on this long, scenic par 4 layout where
strong winds plus water coming into play from the left fairway will
be the determining factors to seal a winning game.
The new golf club is complemented by first-class facilities that
include the R5ve Café which overlooks the golf course, a two tiered
driving range, a 25-metre infinity pool, jacuzzi, children’s pool,
poolside terrace, ballroom with a capacity of 180 people, gym, sauna,
tennis court with night lighting and VIP suite.

Strategically located in Putrajaya, it is also situated next to
Cyberjaya and within close proximity to UNITEN, Multimedia
University, UPM and Technology Park. Merely three minutes off the
Kajang Toll along the KL-Seremban Highway, it is accessible via the
South Klang Valley Expressway and connected to KLCC via the Maju
Expressway.
Opening up an avenue to the public without the need to take
up a membership, the new golf course is now accessible to the
general public – not only to the low-handicapper but also the
vacationer who desires a resort-style game. While still in its infancy,
Mr Brandon has numerous activities already in the pipeline for the
new golf club. The “encouraging word of mouth” has led it to
be an inviting course booked for numerous events way back
in end of 2011 and is slated for upcoming

Corporation Bhd’s net profit for the 2nd quarter ended 31 December 2011 rose
11.04% to RM577.67 million.
The positive second-quarter results were due to the overall improvement in IOI Group’s operating
profit that was attributed to the higher profit recorded in the plantation segment. The crude palm oil
price rose from RM2,800 in the previous corresponding period to RM3,032 per tonne whilst the fresh
fruit bunch production also recorded 902,983 tonnes compared with 820,168 tonnes previously.
Better results were also seen in the resource-based manufacturing segment due to higher margins
from the oleochemicals segment and improved sales from the specialty fats and refineries
segments.
As for the property segment, the pre-tax was 16% higher at RM146.1 million mainly due to higher
development revenue recognised as well as an increase in the share of results from jointly controlled
entities.£

T

Group BV, with the concurrence of IOI
Group Executive Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Lee
Shin Cheng, has appointed Mr Julian Veitch,
presently the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of
IOI Loders Croklaan Americas, as the Chief
Executive Officer of IOI Loders Croklaan (IOI
LC) Group. The appointment will be effective
only on 1 April 2012 to enable Mr Veitch to
concentrate on completing the APEX expansion
project in IOI Loders Croklaan North America.
This appointment is part of the Senior
Management Resource recommendation study
undertaken by a management consultancy
around March 2011. It is envisaged that
Mr Veitch will continue his role as the
COO of IOI LC Americas for a period of time
after 1 April 2012 but there will be some
management re-organisations in the Region to
accommodate Mr Veitch’s new role.
The Managing Board is confident that
with Mr Veitch’s new role and the cooperation given by everyone, IOI Loders
Croklaan Group will be on a much
better footing to tackle the prevailing
challenges
in
our
operating
environment and spur further
growth in the future.

RSPO Supply Chain
Certification Again!
O
nce again, IOI Group has successfully attained the
Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)
Supply Chain Certification in January 2012 for adhering
to the regulations and requirements of the RSPO Supply
Chain Certification Systems (RSPO SCCS). Back in January
2011, IOI obtained its first SCCS certification which was
valid for one year.
IOI’s operating units and facilities which are verified in compliance with the RSPO SCCS are
IOI Corporation Bhd, IOI Edible Oils Sdn Bhd, IOI Loders Croklaan Oils Sdn Bhd, Pan Century
Edible Oils Sdn Bhd, IOI Commodity Trading Sdn Bhd, IOI Loders Croklaan Procurement
Company Sdn Bhd and IOI Pan Century Oleochemicals.
RSPO Supply Chain System is used to trace, track, record and report the amount of certified
sustainable palm oil being processed and traded by the downstream palm oil based industries in
the supply chain. After obtaining the RSPO SCCS, IOI Group and its supply chain units, through
its RSPO Supply Chain models (Mass Balance and Segregation), are now able to make claims on
the use of certified sustainable palm oil in its products.

Another ISCC for IOI Group
B
aturong Palm Oil Mill is the latest operating unit of IOI Group’s Plantation
Division which received the International Standard for Carbon Certification
(ISCC) for complying with the ISCC System GmbH certification system. The ISCC
certificate was awarded to the palm oil mill on 20 February 2012.
ISCC is the first international certification system that can be used to prove
sustainability and greenhouse gas savings for all kinds of biomass and bio-energy. It
is recognised by the European Commission for all member countries as well as
recognised by Germany and the Netherlands.
The purpose of this certification system is to distinguish sustainable products from
non-sustainable ones in the market so that customers can be in a position to opt
deliberately for sustainability and greenhouse gas reduction. It is also an initiative to
avoid unwanted ecological and social side effects of the extending biomass production
in the various regions of the world.
To date, six palm oil mills namely Pamol Sabah Palm Oil Mill, Sakilan Palm Oil
Mill, Bukit Leelau Palm Oil Mill, Gomali Palm Oil Mill, Pamol Kluang Palm Oil Mill
and Baturong Palm Oil Mill; and their supplying estates in Sabah and Peninsular
Malaysia have been awarded the ISCC.

A
3rd successful RSPO surveillance
audit was carried out by the SGS
audit team at Pamol Sabah from 21 to 23
February 2012.
The auditors, comprising Mr James
Ong Soon Hock and Ms Norashikin
Rasikon, conducted a thorough audit of
the mill and four estates namely Meliau,
Nangoh, Tindakon and Bayok.

ince 2009, IOI Group has made a united stand to
support the Earth Hour movement to take a global
stand against climate change. A global initiative to protect
the Planet Earth, Earth Hour calls in individuals, businesses,
the government, community, the young and old to turn
out their lights for one specific hour from 8:30pm to
9:30pm. This year, IOI Group continues to support the
Earth Hour 2012 movement themed “Uniting People to
Protect the Planet”.
Our IOI Group Executive Director Dato’ Lee Yeow Chor
has pledged that IOI Properties will build more green
buildings in its future property development during
our Earth Hour launch in 2010. Since then, more
environmentally-friendly buildings and green infrastructures
are seen in our latest property developments like IOI
Resort City and 16 Sierra, just to name a few.
To give a greater emphasis on the green
movement, the month of March has been
designated as our Earth Month since
2010. Besides turning off all nonessential lights on 31 March 2012
at 8:30pm, our business units
were motivated to go beyond
the hour and initiate their own
green activities and awareness
campaigns to educate our
people and inspire them to
embark on a sustainable
lifestyle during the month of
March.
IOI headquarters’ employees
were encouraged to support the
“Meatless Monday” Campaign and
educated via internal communications
channels to practise a greener lifestyle at home
and at the workplace. We noticed significant changes in
our employees’ behaviours; for example more people
used their own containers to pack lunch, ate organic and
vegetarian foods, car pooled to the office, used recycled
papers and switched off the lights whenever they left the
office for lunch or meetings.
Our property division in Johor Bahru also encouraged
their employees to print on both sides, switch off the
lights and computers during lunch time and recycle old
items.
Over at IOI Oleochemical, Prai, the commitment to
Earth Hour was demonstrated by the various efforts
initiated and planned towards sustainable development
and energy efficiency. Page 22 outlines these significant
measures.

These are only some of the Go Green initiatives and
awareness campaigns organised during our Earth Month.
We believe that our small actions can make a big difference
to help fight climate change.

(Trainee)
Programme
I
n line with the Plantation Division’s consistent
efforts to train a sustainable team of future
Assistant Managers for IOI Group’s estates, a
Cadet Assistant (Trainee) Programme for
the year 2012 was rolled out at Paya Lang
Clubhouse in Johor on 13 February 2012.
The first batch of 20 participants began
their 10-week structured training
comprising three weeks of classroom
training and seven weeks of field
attachment.

their technical knowledge by enrolling
in the Incorporated Society of

The training was structured to
cater to the requirements of estates and

as an excellent platform to boost the
participants’ self-confidence and enable
them to gain a comprehensive understanding
of the basic principles, concepts and practices of
plantation operations management.

Visit to Gomali Palm Oil Mill
A
visit to Gomali Palm Oil Mill was
conducted by IOI Loders Croklaan Europe
which sent a team of 30 people comprising
Global Sustainability Director Mr Hidde van
Kersen, the sales force and its customers.
On 5 March 2011, Gomali Mill Manager
Mr Lai Yue Yeong arranged for an in-depth tour
of the mill for the visitors, many of whom were
visiting a palm oil mill for the first time.
Apart from an exhibition that was set up at
the compound, a talk was given by Mr Lai who
explained and showed the processing of fresh
fruit bunches in their various processing stages.
After the tour of the mill, the visitors left with
clarity and understanding of how crucial
production efficiency is to yield high quality
palm oil.

Urvan 3.0) complete with siren, stretcher, oxygen
cylinder and other emergency equipment.

he Plantation Human Resources (HR) Department made an active
move to recruit potential employees for IOI Corporation Bhd at a career
talk organised by the Faculty of Agriculture, University Putra Malaysia in
collaboration with their Career Placement Centre on 27 February 2012.

lmost everybody uses writing to communicate on
the job and writing effectively is something employees
need to be able to do. Clear, succinct and useful documents
are essential to effective communication in any organisation
and creating them is a vital skill. However are the documents
really sending the right message across and are they getting
the results we want?
The Training and Organisational Development
Department organised an “Effective Business Writing
Skills” workshop (28 and 29 February 2012, and 20 and 21
March 2012) for two groups consisting of 20 participants
respectively.
The practical workshop delved into how to send precise
and concise written messages that are of a high level of
professionalism to a receiver. It also highlighted the need
for a polished structured business writing format, the
importance of using contemporary, appropriate and
grammatically correct language in each message, the current
practices and professional writing standards.
Participants were selected based on training needs
requested by the Heads of Departments ranging from the
Customer Relations Unit, Corporate Admin, IOI Mall
Accounts and Property Accounts to Plantation Admin,
Plantation Human Resources, Sales Administration and
Building Maintenance.

Seals Agreements with Tenants

Properties Bhd’s new shopping mall,
IOI City Mall, sealed agreements with one
anchor tenant and one key tenant in March 2012. The
city mall is the main component of the 36-acre IOI City
Development located within IOI Resort City, Putrajaya.
Being the largest shopping mall in the south of the
Klang Valley, IOI City Mall will be more than just another
place to shop. It will be a fun and affordable experience
for family and young adults. The key differentiation of the
mall is its one-of-its-kind entertainment park that has yet
to be seen in any mall in the Klang Valley.
Featuring the Garden Mall concept with lots of alfresco
dining, the four storey-IOI City Mall will have a net lettable
area of 1.35 million square feet, about 350 shops and 7,200
car parks. The mall will be anchored by a department
store, a hypermarket and a 13-screen cinema. Its main
retail offering will be fashion, accessories, IT, children and
home items complemented by 80 F&B outlets.
On the entertainment and leisure front, the mall will
have an Olympic-size skating rink, bowling centre,
karaoke, edutainment centre, book store and exclusive
entertainment facilities catering for toddlers, teenagers,
college students and adults.
Construction of the mall is on track to be completed
by 2014. IOI Properties plans to lease the mall and the
office blocks to increase its recurring income.

development value of RM2 billion, with the mall taking up
RM1 billion, is set to transform the

Clementi Condo
Site in Singapore

Properties Bhd’s wholly owned subsidiary,
MultiWealth (Singapore) Pte Ltd, won the bid for a 99year leasehold parcel of land at Jalan Lempeng near Clementi town
centre for RM995.5 million (S$408 million) on 17 January 2012.
Earmarked for a condominium development, the land
measures about 2.4 hectares with a permissible gross floor area
of 736,000 square feet, which translates into a plot ratio of 2.8.
Strategically located within the mature housing estate of
Clementi, it is in close proximity with the National University
Hospital and Clementi MRT station. This is expected to draw
pent-up demand with its good potential to tap into a large
catchment of upgraders from the existing residents living in the area.
“There are many Singaporeans living in the HDB flats who want to upgrade to living in private condominiums,”
remarked Senior General Manager of IOI Properties Bhd, JB Mr Simon Heng after signing an agreement service with

t is always the company objective to constantly upgrade the
employees’ skills and knowledge. With the mission to excel
employees’ knowledge and skills in the effective practice of
Microsoft Excel 2007, IOI Properties Bhd, JB tied up with Foon Yew
High School Kulaijaya to conduct Microsoft Excel 2007 classes to
15 employees.
The employees were the first batch to be selected
from various departments to attend the course at the
Computer Lab of Foon Yew High School on 13 and
14 March 2012. The participants were taught how to
manipulate and use shortcuts in Microsoft Excel for
calculation, create spreadsheets, Pivot Tables, Charts
and Macros.
During the 2-day learning camp, the
participants gained a better understanding in
the practical usage of Microsoft Excel which
will definitely help them in their jobs.

JB Residents to Enjoy Enhanced

Agreement with Telekom Malaysia Bhd on
18 January 2012 for the deployment and provision of
TM’s high speed broadband (HSBB) network
infrastructure and services to the residential development
of Bandar Putra and Kempas Utama in Johor Bahru.
With the collaboration, both residential developments
– Bandar Putra (located in Kulaijaya) and Taman Kempas
Utama (located in the Kempas-Tebrau growth corridor) –
will be the sixth residential township in Southern Johor to
offer UniFi or high speed broadband.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Member of
Johor State Assembly for the Bukit Permai Constituency
Yang Berhormat Haji Kamaruzaman Bin Ali. TM Johor
State Vice President Encik Mohd Roslan Mohd Rashidi
signed the Service Agreement on behalf of TM while IOI
Properties Bhd, JB was represented by Senior General
Manager Mr Simon Heng. The agreement was also
witnessed by Assistant General Manager of TM SME
Johor Encik Mohd Nizam Mohd Yunan and Assistant
General Manager of IOI Properties Bhd JB Mr Lou Fu
Leong.
Under the agreement, all house buyers of IOI
Properties’ Bandar Putra at Parcel 3A & 4A and Taman
Kempas Utama at Parcel 3A will be equipped with FREE
TM’s HSBB UniFi 5Mbps broadband service for a
maximum of two years. Residents and tenants will get
immediate connectivity upon moving into their homes.
According to Encik Mohd Roslan Mohd Rashidi, the
agreement creates good synergy between a dynamic
property developer and TM, for the benefit of homeowners and residents.

the “ONE GREAT IOI TEAM” programme at the IOI Palm
Villa Golf and Country Resort on 28 and 29 February 2012. The 2-day
programme was specially designed to assist an actual working team to
systematically strive towards excellence in line with the core values of
the company.
Mr Daniel Lim, who was the facilitator, has 20 years of teaching and
coaching experience. He used a 30% expert input and 70% audience
participation formula to encourage participation and learning.
The participants took a Personality Assessment Test and went
through a series of experiential learning challenges that gave them a
more accurate assessment of their own personalities. The challenges
were also aimed at cultivating good team spirit through effective
communication and understanding towards one another.
The games incorporated in the programme were aimed at fostering
the sense of belonging and inter-dependence among the participants
which is crucial for overall team
building.

Turkish conglomerate Evyap Sabun,
a market leader in Turkey for household
toiletries and soap noodles (with utilised
capacity of 220,000mt) and which enjoys a
growing market presence in Egypt, sent its
delegates to visit Pan-Century twice in a span of
five months – back in October 2011 and again on 28
February 2012.
Led by Evyap Sabun Chairman Mr Fethi Evyap and
his team, the visits were a follow up to a visit by their
Chief Operating Officer Mr Mehmed Evyap and his
team in September 2010.

Established since 1956, HADA Co. develops
customised soap bars for the local market and exports
to Dominican Republic, Mexico, Peru and Puerto Rico.

Pan-Century opened its doors to several global
customers for them to have a better understanding
of the overall operations at Pan-Century, gain a firsthand experience in Pan-Century’s quality assurance and

on IOI Oleochemicals Sdn Bhd. A plant tour will be carried out
covering the fatty acid plant, soap noodle plant and warehousing/
packing facilities plus the production plants for soap noodles.

Bradford Soap Works prides itself as one of the world’s
largest specialty bar soap manufacturers, having been
an established soap bar manufacturer for the past 123
years.
On 2 February 2012, Vice President of Bradford
Soap Works Inc (US) Mr Chris Buckley dropped by for
a discussion on the current market climate and technical
aspects of Bradford Soap Works Inc’s soap noodle
requirements. This was followed by a tour to PanCentury’s soap noodle plant.
On 24 February 2012, Procter &
Gamble (P&G) sent six executives
from their R&D and Commercial teams
to visit Pan-Century. A leading global
manufacturer of home and personal care
products, P&G operates in Asia with its regional
headquarters in Singapore and has over 1,300
employees from 20 nationalities with diverse
backgrounds.
The R&D team consisted of Associate Director
Mr Charlie Salvador, Leader (Beijing) Ms Jenny Zhong,
Senior Engineer Mr Anurag Makrandi while the
Commercial Team included Purchasing Group Manager
Mr Kishan Agrawal, Senior Purchasing Manager Mr
Osamu Urakawa and Purchasing Manager Ms ZhiQi Lin.
The visit covered technical matters on P&G’s
customised soap noodles, current market trends, targets
on cost benefits and the working relationship between
Pan-Century and P&G as well as RSPO updates.
Thereafter, they were taken on a tour that included the
soap noodle plants, Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
and warehouse facilities.

February 2012 was a day of
happy occasion for functional leaders
and Continuous Improvement (CI) project
teams as their hard work and effort were
acknowledged in a reward ceremony.
Executive Director Mr Tan Kean Hua
congratulated the leaders and presented the
1st Prize to five deserving functional teams
followed by 32 teams which were rewarded
with the 2nd Prize and finally, a 3rd Prize
winning team.
Meanwhile, the submission of CI projects
for the Quality Council’s review improved
from 33 (in year 2009/2010) to 35 teams (in
year 2010/2011). Whilst the Council decided
there was no 1st Prize winner, it awarded the
2nd Prize to the ACM1 Maintenance team for
submitting an excellent “Derichem Plant 26
– Improve Vacuum” project.
Mr Tan Kean Hua encouraged them by
remarking, “These projects are vital for
productivity and efficiency improvement for

Mr Tan stressed the importance of enhancing employees’ ASK
to compete in the current challenging business environment.

o inculcate the 5S culture (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardise, Sustain) among the
employees of IOI Oleochemical, Prai, a 5S competition was held in September 2011. The objective
was to promote efficiency in the workplace and improve workplace safety by motivating the employees
to perform their tasks according to the 5S principles and adopting these principles daily.
The competition spurred everyone to be on their toes during a four-month
period targeted to set things right according to the 5S principles. A team of
six auditors from various departments was assigned to conduct ‘surprise’

Bakti, Kepala Batas enjoyed a cheerful day on
17 March 2012 thanks to a Community Service event
organised by IOI Oleochemical, Prai to connect the
employees with society.
68 children including IOI employees’ children were split
into three categories (5 – 6 years old, 7 – 8 years old and 9 – 10
years old) to participate in a colouring competition. The friendly
game sparked humour as excited children attempted to “bully” IOI
employees’ kids, and spurred determination as children pressed on
despite the ringing of the bell.
Apart from the great gifts, a tea break was served by the IOI
employees to the children. The memorable event ended with a touching
moment as the children gratefully kissed the IOI employees’ hands in
a symbolic gesture of thanks and goodbye.

Fishing for a Winning Catch

IOI Oleochemical, Prai employees took
time out of their busy schedules to de-stress by
gathering at Juru City Happy Fishing for a fishing
competition on 18 March 2012.
After tucking into the breakfast provided by the
Sports Committee, avid anglers started hooking, baiting
and tossing their fishing lines for the varieties of fishes
in the pond such as jenahak, siakap and bawal.
Prizes were given to five winners who caught the
heaviest fish. The champion was Izrul Huzairi Ahmad
from ACM 1 Transferring section, whose fish weighed
2.295 kg!

more and more important to governments
and have become strategic themes for
European leaders.
In 2004, the European council moved
for better protection of all transport systems
and a more effective border control. This
resulted in a new legislation which came
into power on 1 January 2008. Within this
legislation, companies are offered the
possibility to apply for Authorised
Economic Operator (AEO) status to
securely organise and protect all supply
chains from threats through customs
simplification plus security and safety
control.
The AEO status is a quality mark for
companies which will enjoy simplification
of custom procedures plus extensive safety
procedures in place that ensure control
over operational procedures and transport
standards. With less physical and
administrative hassles, this offers advantages
to both AEO and its customers.
To receive the AEO status, IOI Loders
Croklaan Europe has been scrutinously
audited by auditors from both tax
authorities and customs during the last
months. During these audits, the internal
organisation, systems and procedures
have all been analysed.
On 21 February 2012, the official AEO
certificate was handed out by government
officials to Group Chief Financial Officer of
IOI Loders Croklaan Mr Vincent Geerts.
ProSweets 2012
B
etween 29 January and 1 February 2012, the
ProSweets exhibition, which focuses on the
techniques and ingredients for the confectionery
industry, was held in Cologne, Germany. It was held
simultaneously with the ISM which is the largest
exhibition on chocolate and sugar confectionery
and an important podium for many of our European
customers.
During the exhibition, IOI Loders Croklaan
Europe showcased its products on a booth dedicated
to the Creative Studio. Many of our existing
customers, both European and global, came to our
booth to discuss their technical questions with our
application experts. We were also able to speak to
potential new customers around the globe.
During the meetings, the guests could sample
the different chocolate creations from the Creative
Studio. All the products were based on our own
specialty fats and were enthusiastically tasted by
guests and various visitors.

The Netherlands. Unfortunately, skating is only
possible in very cold winters but cycling can be done all
year long. A healthy activity, it does not emit any CO2 to the
environment. It is also very friendly to the wallet, especially
with the soaring prices of petrol in the last months.
During Earth Month 2012, IOI Loders Croklaan Europe
promoted cycling as a green mode of transport to the office.
To further help the environment, IOI Loders Croklaan
Europe made a contribution to a tree planting “Cycling
Days” project in the Philippines which is dedicated to
restoration of nature and replanting of trees. To encourage
people living close to the office to cycle, one tree per cycling
day was donated to the project and this went up to four
trees for people who live more than 15 kilometres from the
office.
During the month of March, more than 50 people took
the effort to cycle to the office resulting in a total of 271
trees being donated to the project. Next to this, the efforts
also resulted in around 1,000 kilometres being covered via
cycling. The most outstanding contribution to the initiative
was made by Analytical Support & Development Coordinator Mr Jeroen van Straalen who lives 38 kilometres
from the office yet he cycled to the office on three of the
four days, covering 206 kilometres!
We hope that this Earth Month initiative has inspired
people to use the bicycle more often, making a continuous
positive contribution to the environment!

I
n 2011, IOI Loders Croklaan Europe actively started
supporting the fight against multiple sclerosis (MS) by
sponsoring the Move for MS foundation.
Move for MS is raising money for research against MS by
taking part in all kinds of events where they literally “move” to
collect funds. In 2011, this was done by running, skating and
cycling. The most impressive effort was the gruelling climb of
the legendary 1912m Mont Ventoux in the south of France,
where seven members of the Move for MS team battled +30°C
temperatures while running and cycling to reach the summit.
Move for MS was founded by Mr Ruud Zoeteman, whose
wife is battling the disease. The initiative was brought to the
attention of IOI Loders Croklaan Europe by Allround Process
Operator Mr Fred Gebhard, who works at the Rotterdam facility.
IOI Loders Croklaan Europe warmly embraced the initiative,
with management members Chief Operating Officer of IOI
Loders Croklaan Europe Dr Loek Favre and Group Chief
Financial Officer Mr Vincent Geerts actively raising money by
running in some of the events.
During 2011, the team collected a total of €2283.46 in
sponsorship from IOI Loders Croklaan Europe. On 2 March,
this was festively handed over to the Move for MS foundation
by Dr Loek Favre. In 2012, IOI Loders Croklaan Europe will
continue to support the initiative.

Gulfood Awards
in
IOI
Loders Croklaan Asia’s Creamelt™ 500 and
Creative Studio have been awarded the “Highly
Commended” status by the International Judging Panel of
Gulfood Awards 2012. IOI Loders Croklaan Asia’s entries have
been judged to be one of the top three in the total participated
categories for this year which accounted for over 120 entries
from 30 countries in 20 different categories.
The announcement was made in the Gulfood Awards
which is Middle East’s most highly regarded food and beverage
accolades. The winners were announced during a spectacular
gala dinner held at the Dubai International Convention and
Exhibition Centre on the opening day of Gulfood on 19
February 2012.
IOI Loders Croklaan Asia submitted two entries for the
2012 Gulfood Awards, namely Creamelt™ 500 (ice-cream
application fat) for the Best New Health Food or Beverage
Ingredient category, and Creative Studio for the Best New
Food Service Innovation award category.
Traditionally, lauric fats like coconut oil is used in the
preparation of ice-cream application. However coconut oil
has a high content of saturated fat of around 92%. Hydrogenated
fats can be used to replace coconut oil but they contain trans
fats which is more dangerous than saturated fat. With the
growing concern on reducing saturated fat and trans fat in
processed foods, IOI Loders Croklaan Asia’s Application &
Technical team developed the low-SAFA, low-trans ice-cream
application fat Creamelt™ 500 which led us to this victory.
Creative Studio, on the other hand, enables food producers
to bring new products to the market at a higher speed thus
giving them a competitive edge.

Conference of IOI Loders Croklaan Asia was held in
Pasir Gudang. About 30 people of seven different nationalities
were present, which included sales staff from the overseas
offices in China, Egypt, South Africa and Brazil.
During the three-day event, the actual results, strategies and
moving forward plans for the department were discussed. The
team also received a refresher training in the Creative Studio on
the different applications of oils and fats plus insights on the
latest developments in the industry.
The highlight of the event was the presence of one of the
global key account customers who accepted the invitation to be
the guest speaker – Regional Head of Nestle Commodity
Purchase Centre in Singapore.

Bodybuilding members of the San Suria Gym swept
the top three spots in the Junior category which was
open to those below 21 years old. Kevin Murthy, 20,
who spent almost four years sculpting his body, was
crowned champion whilst his gym buddies, Hamidi
Hamid, 19, and Looi Qi Feng, 21, grabbed the second
and third spots respectively.

Meanwhile, the New Talent category which was
open to new faces of any age, saw 26 participants from
15 gyms, with the youngest being 17 years old and the
oldest, 42 years old. The New Talent crown went to
Ahmad Rizal from Burly Gym.
The champion of each category won RM700 cash,
a trophy and a medal while each runner-up received
RM500 cash, a trophy and a medal. The third spot winners
received RM300 cash, a trophy and a medal each.

bodybuilder, wowed the audience with his excellent
physique and sleek moves. As an active bodybuilder, he
supported the event’s objective to create a pool of new

more teenagers in the healthy sport.

‘Comedy Crunch’
with a

utrajaya Marriott Hotel & Spa’s lobby lounge was transformed into a fiesta feel
with splashes of black and white everywhere as the hotel went out of its way to
bring forth the party of the year for the Formula 1 teams that were staying at the hotel.
On 21 March 2012, the hotel hosted a Formula 1 Cocktail Party. Since it was an
annual event and highly anticipated, ‘uniqueness’ was a pre-requisite. The party was
organised to say welcome and bid good luck to the teams. It was also a way to show
appreciation to the teams as the hotel has housed F1 teams annually, for many years. In
addition, it was a great way to get to know the teams in a more casual environment.
Themed ‘Comedy Crunch’, the hotel provided a
party that consisted of special entertainment such
as cabaret and energetic dance performances, a
four-piece live band and the presence of the
infamous Ms Joanne Kam Poh Poh who got
everyone rolling in non-stop laughter with her
stand-up comedy jokes! The music got the teams
toe tapping and swaying all night long.

ll work and no play is not the motto for Palm Garden
Hotel as a dedicated SWAT team (Social, Welfare and
Activities Team) is set up to arrange monthly activities for its
associates. The associates are split into five groups – Food &
Beverage team, Kitchen team, Housekeeping & Front Office
team, Sales & Finance team plus the Executive Office (consisting
of Human Resources, Maintenance, Security and Recreation
Departments).
In January 2012, the SWAT team arranged for a game of futsal
at the Recreation Centre. The game was such a thrill that even the
departmental heads joined in the fun in their work clothes. The
Kitchen team emerged winner of the two-day event.
In February 2012, ping pong was in line and the groups
sent a couple each for a mixed doubles game. It was a speedy
event whereby the Food and Beverage team won the game.
The Recreation Centre provides various activities for young
and old and it’s a great place to get away for fun and relaxation.
Games such as volleyball, paintball and sepak takraw are
available at the Recreation Centre as well as board games, pool
table, carom and mountain bikes for rent.

n support of Earth Month, Palm Garden Hotel
embarked on a series of activities to educate and
encourage our associates towards a better and
sustainable lifestyle.
A gotong-royong session was held at the Banquet
kitchen and the area designated for recyclable items.
The areas were cleaned and items were either sent
for recycling or maintained for use in the hotel.
On 19 March 2012, the Food and Beverage team
introduced a range of healthy drinks at RM12 per
glass at the Courtyard to encourage guests to drink
fresh juices as opposed to processed juices. These
concoctions of fresh fruit juices were blended
without ice resulting in frothy beverages such as
Mangolicious (mangoes and strawberries), Prune de
Banana (prunes and bananas) or Melonconcino
(yellow watermelons with white coffee). For those
who like tea, the ginger infused tea with honey was
certainly soothing and refreshing.
Later in the month, an enzyme making class was
held to teach associates the processes of making
fruit enzymes and the benefits of doing so. Associates
were amazed at how these simple processes could
help the environment in the long term.
On 31 March 2012, Palm Garden Hotel switched
off non-essential lights around the hotel along with
the rest of IOI Group and the world from 8:30pm till
9:30pm. Hotel guests enjoyed their barbecue dinner
amidst dancing candlelight at Palms Café.
However, Earth Month will not be the end of the
activities as Palm Garden Hotel continues the
practices of energy saving and waste reductions for
a greener way of living. Let’s go green!

Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah received RM416,868 worth of
sponsorship under Yayasan Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng (Yayasan TSLSC)’s Student
Adoption Programme (SAP) this year.
A presentation ceremony was held on 17 January 2012 at Palm Garden Hotel
whereby 67 students from Klang Valley gathered to receive RM800 cash donation
and a school bag each from the Executive Director of Yayasan TSLSC Dr Chua Yee
Yen and Trustee of Yayasan TSLSC Mr Quah Poh Keat. Also present were the
principals and headmasters of the students’ respective schools plus the senior
management of IOI Group.
Dr Chua remarked that Yayasan TSLSC, which is a charitable foundation fully
funded by IOI Group, has a corporate social responsibility to help underprivileged
students and hoped that with the incentive given, students will strive to excel in
their studies. Mr Quah further added, “The Student Adoption Programme not only
helps to reduce the burden of the parents, it also provides an opportunity for the
children to continue their studies without worries.”

stationeries to over 1,800 children from 22 HUMANA kindergartens in Sabah. In
fact, IOI Group is the largest contributor to HUMANA kindergartens that provides
basic education to the children of the foreign workers in Sabah who are unable to
enrol into the national schools in Malaysia.

ver at IOI Group’s plantation estates, the Student Adoption
Programme (SAP) continues to be practised as a sign of Yayasan
TSLSC’s objective to take care of the welfare of IOI Group’s employees. The
SAP presentation ceremony was held at various estates by the respective
estate managers.
Selected children of IOI’s employees were given cheques and school
bags by the estate managers who congratulated the students
and motivated them to excel in their studies.

Yayasan TSLSC Launches New Publication
A
ddressing the plight of the underprivileged is the foundation of
Yayasan Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng (Yayasan TSLSC) which is dedicated
to various contributions and activities benefiting society.
Recently, the Corporate Communications Department produced a
booklet featuring these contributions and signature activities to let the
public learn more about Yayasan TSLSC. Entitled “Lovelines”, the booklet
was officially launched in February 2012.
The 34-page booklet voices the concern for the less fortunate in the
community which resulted in the establishment of the Yayasan TSLSC in
1994 by Tan Sri Dato’ Lee Shin Ching, the founder of IOI Group. A
foundation that is fully funded by IOI Group, Yayasan TSLSC seeks to
reach out and improve the quality of life of underprivileged youth and
children regardless of race or creed. During the initial years, Yayasan
TSLSC was mainly involved in philanthropic activities. Over the years,
Yayasan TSLSC has contributed substantially to the funding of the local
educational development and has undertaken many of IOI Group’s
corporate responsibility initiatives such as the Scholarship Awards Scheme,
Young Achievers’ Awards, Student Adoption Programme, School Adoption
Programme, Lawas Project and Partnership with HUMANA, just to name a few.
This colourful and pictorial booklet comprises four segments: Building the Foundation, Empowering
Future Leaders, Loving the Communities and Towards Health and Happiness. Readers would be able to have a
glimpse of the various signature activities organised by Yayasan TSLSC especially in the areas of human
capital development and community enrichment.
