First of all, I would like to congratulate the 2016 Memorial Day tournament winners
(total purse $1075 - $25x43 players):
Mens Division

We are in the final stages of releasing the formal 2016-2017 tournament schedule and will have that posted this
month...we have some exciting, new events planned for the upcoming year!!! Starting this month, we have summer junior camps running each month thru August. Information and pamphlets are in the golf shop if you have
juniors interested in participating in a variety of events including golf, soccer, cooking, movies, etc.
Mrs. Gillian Thomas had a hole-in-one on May 14th on #8. Also on the same day, Mr. Michael Benham shot his
age for the first time and tied our course record from the white tees with a 69...congratulations!!!
In addition, it has been brought to the golf committee's attention that clarification needs to be addressed regarding tree roots. Cypress Run does not have a "root" rule in place. We are fortunate to have some wonderful trees
around our property that have roots in place which cannot be cut due to the trees' safety. Please be advised that
you are allowed to declare an unplayable lie and proceed under USGA Rule 28.
Cypress Run has reciprocity with courses in our area. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity,
please see a golf shop staff member to arrange a place and time to visit one of our neighboring courses. Please
remember to stay hydrated over the summer months. It may be wise to take regular breaks during your practice
time to stay hydrated, focused, and energized.
From Your Golf Course Superintendent
We are in the process of tree trimming, wood line cleaning along hazard line and removing
roots in play areas. Summer annuals have been planted and doing very well. Our next core aerification date scheduled for the greens is June 20th. Verticutting and lightly topdressing the greens as
needed throughout the summer months. We will aerify the tees and fairways during the month of
June to continue establishing a denser root system. Continued nematicides will be applied to the
greens, tees and fairways on Monday’s while the course is closed for the safety of the members.
As always I will try to keep all of you informed with what we are doing on the golf
course through my monthly newsletter articles. We always do our best to have the golf course in the
best playing condition as we perform the necessary agronomic practices needed to promote healthy
turf and the safety of our members.

Cypress Run would like to thank and wish AJ Newell the
best of luck. She has left us for awhile to move back to
Knoxville, TN to start playing again. With AJ leaving we
have a new face in the Golf Shop, Larry Rupp.
Larry, grew up mostly in the Midwest and has a Military
background. He started his athletic career as a football
player but his love for golf took him on the path to become
a professional golfer. He started his professional golf career in the North Florida Section making his way to the
MET Section in New York and then back to Florida. He
has won 118 tournaments in his career, has 14 Hole in
Ones, and still holds 6 course records. He enjoys teaching
this wonderful sport he has made a career out of and he is
looking forward to sharing his knowledge and love of the
game with the Members and their Guest at Cypress Run
