The weapons system that the late Morihiro Saito Sensei learned from
Morihei Ueshiba and passed onto his many students is a fundamental
aspect of this style of aikido. Without a grasp of this part of the system our
understanding, and ability, in aikido will remain incomplete.
Of the three weapons commonly praticed with in aikido (ken, jo and tanto)
it can be argued that ken is the most basic and has the clearest relationships
with taijutsu (ri-ai).
In this seminar I would like to spend a whole weekend focusing on only the
bokken (wooden sword) and it’s relationships with taijutsu (ri-ai).
The following progression will be covered systematically this weekend:
- 7 ken suburi
- awase (non contact and contact variations)
- 5 kumitachi + ki musubi no tachi
- the basics of taijutsu (empty handed technique) in the light of ken (ri-ai)
This seminar is open to aikidoka’s of all levels of experience.
