I want to take this opportunity to thank you, dearest friends from Santa Maria, St. Luke’s Parish in
Brentwood, Our Lady of Solace—St. Dominic and other neighboring parishes, for your role in making our
Lenten Day of Recollection, this past Monday, February 18th, a most blessed and endearing spiritual and
family event. We like being together as an adorable family of brothers and sisters. We also thank Sr. Elaine
Schenk, Provincial Superior of the women's branch of the Idente Missionaries, for her participation and that of
the other sisters, as well as our brother priests, including Fr. Martin Esguerra from Santa Maria Parish, Fr.
Cristobal Martin from St. Luke's, and Fr. Anthony from Our Lady of Solace—St. Dominic. As you recall the
Day of Recollection had three principle objectives: (1) that we pray silently as Jesus teaches in Mt 6, for at
least 15 to 20 minutes a day; (2) that we read a daily chapter from the New Testament beginning with Mt 1; (3)
that we receive Holy Communion during weekdays, ideally every day. We continue to invite you weekly to

Retiro de Cuaresma
Quiero darles las gracias a ustedes, queridísimos amigos de Santa María, San Lucas en Brentwood,
Nuestra Señora de Consolación — Santo Domingo y otras parroquias vecinas, por hacer de nuestro Retiro de
Cuaresma, este pasado lunes 18 de febrero, un evento espiritual y familiar especialmente bendecido y
entrañable. Nos gusta estar juntos como una familia adorable de hermanos y hermanas. También les damos las
gracias a la Hna. Elaine Schenk, Superiora Provincial de las Misioneras Identes, por su participación y a las
demás hermanas, y a nuestros sacerdotes, incluyendo al Padre Martín de Santa Maria, al Padre Cristóbal de
San Lucas, y a nuestro Padre Anthony. Como saben el Retiro tuvo tres objetivos principales: (1) orar en
silencio como Jesús nos enseña en Mt 6, por lo menos de 15 a 20 minutos al día; leer diariamente el
Nuevo Testamento empezando con Mt 1; (3) recibir la Santa Comunión durante los días de la semana,
idealmente cada día. Continúanos invitándoles semanalmente a la Adoración Eucarística. Vean el Boletín

Theology on Tap-NYC ( a young adult ministry for those in their 20s
and 30s) Presents: “Desire, Purpose, Destiny-Embracing the Ache in
Our Hearts” On March 4, 2013, Colin Nykaza, Director of Young Adult Outreach

Second Sunday of Lent (February 24) Gn 15:5‐12,17‐18 Ps 27:1,7‐9,13‐14 Phil 3:17‐4:1 Lk 9:28b‐36 Jesus is transfigured on a mountain before three witnesses chosen by Him: Peter, James, and John. His face and his clothes become radiant as the light; Moses and Elijah appeared and “spoke of his passage which he was about to fulfill in Jerusalem” (Lk 9:31). A cloud covered them and a voice was heard from heaven saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen One, listen to him” (v. 35). For an instant, Jesus shows his divine glory and in this way confirms Peter’s solemn confession. He also shows that, in order “to enter into his glory,” (Lk 24:26)—given that we are “citizens of heaven”—it is necessary first to take up the cross. According to St. Thomas Aquinas’ interpretation, “the cloud that came and overshadowed them” (Lk 9:34) indicates the presence of the Holy Spirit: “Tota Trinitas apparuit: Pater in voce; Filius in homine, Spiritus in nube clara“ (“In the cloud the Trinity appeared: the Father in the voice, the Son in the man, the Spirit in the luminous cloud” (Summa th. 3, 45, 4, ad 2). The Transfiguration grants us an anticipated vision of Christ’s coming glory “which will remake our bodies according to the pattern of his glorified body” (Phil 3:21). But this transfiguration of our bodies also reminds us that we should obey the Father by listening to Christ (Lk 9:35), and that “it is necessary that we,” like Christ, “undergo many hardships” (Acts 14:22). This will be a body “transfigured into a glorious body” (Phil 3:21), into a “spiritual body” (1Co 15:44). Our participation in the Eucharist already gives us an anticipation of the transfiguration of our bodies by Christ according to the words of St. Irenaeus of Lyon: “In the same way that the bread that comes from the earth, after receiving God’s invocation, is no longer ordinary bread, but the Eucharist, constituted by two things, one earthly and the other heavenly, in the same way our bodies that participate in the Eucharist are no longer corruptible, given that they already have the hope of the resurrection” (Adversus haereses 4, 18, 4‐5). REFLEXIÓN SOBRE LAS ESCRITURAS Segundo domingo de Cuaresma (24 de Febrero) Gn 15:5‐12,17‐18 Sal 27:1,7‐9,13‐14 Fil 3:17‐4:1 Lc 9:28b‐36 Jesús se transfigura sobre una montaña, ante tres testigos elegidos por Él: Pedro, Santiago y Juan. Su rostro y sus vestidos se pusieron fulgurantes como la luz; Moisés y Elías aparecieron y le “hablaban de su partida, que estaba para cumplirse en Jerusalén” (Lc 9, 31). Una nube les cubrió y se oyó una voz desde el cielo que decía: “Este es mi Hijo, mi elegido; escuchadle” (v. 35). Por un instante, Jesús muestra su gloria divina, confirmando así la confesión solemne de Pedro. Muestra también que para “entrar en su gloria” (ck 24, 26), pues “somos ciudadanos del cielo” (Fil 3,20), es necesario pasar antes por la Cruz en Jerusalén. La nube que los “cubrió con su sombra” (Lc 9:34) indica —Según interpretación de Santo Tomás— la presencia del Espíritu Santo: “Tota Trinitas apparuit: Pater in voce; Filius in homine, Spiritus in nube clara” (“Apareció toda la Trinidad: el Padre en la voz, el Hijo en el hombre, el Espíritu en la nube luminosa” (Summa th. 3, 45, 4, ad 2). La Transfiguración nos concede una visión anticipada de la gloriosa venida de Cristo “el cual transfigurará este miserable cuerpo nuestro en un cuerpo glorioso como el suyo” (Fil 3, 21). Pero esta transfiguración de nuestro cuerpo nos recuerda también que debemos obedecer al Padre “escuchando” a Cristo (Lc 9:35), y que “es necesario que pasemos —como Cristo— por muchas tribulaciones” (Ats 14, 22). Este será un cuerpo “transfigurado en cuerpo de gloria” (Fil 3, 21), en “cuerpo espiritual” (1 Co 15, 44). Nuestra participación en la Eucaristía nos da ya un anticipo de la transfiguración de nuestro cuerpo por Cristo según aquellas palabras de San Ireneo de Lyon: “Así como el pan que viene de la tierra, después de haber recibido la invocación de Dios, ya no es pan ordinario, sino Eucaristía, constituida por dos cosas, una terrena y otra celestial, así nuestros cuerpos que participan en la eucaristía ya no son corruptibles, ya que tienen la esperanza de la resurrección” (Adversus haereses 4, 18, 4‐5).
