Week 6 Term 2

A note from Beck….
We have had a very busy term learning
about belonging to our community and we
are beginning to learn about our bodies.
Our mat time discussions are really developing thanks to some wonderful listening
skills, the ability to take turns talking and
the confidence to share amongst the group.
These are just some of the social skills we
have assess this term.
You will receive your child’s social skills assessment today as well as their profile
books. It is important to note that at this
point we expect that all children are in the
developing phase of their social skills at
kindy. There may be some aspects which
are beginning to develop however if these
are of serious concern we would’ve shared
this with you already.
Interviews are most welcome at the beginning of next term if you have any concerns
or questions.
Today we farewell two families from our
Kindy Community. We would like to wish
Hannah’s family all the best for their move,
As well as Declan’s family who are moving to
the Riverland. We are sad to see both Declan and Hannah go but know they will have
no trouble making new friends and learning
in their new kindy’s.
App-tastic fun
This weeks apps are:
Eggy numbers 1-10
Your child can take their first steps
into the wonderful world of maths
with Eggy Numbers 1 to 10 – which teaches children
aged 3+ how to identify, write and count numbers 1 to
10! Featuring 7 highly motivational games.
Monkey Maths school sunshine
Monkey Math School Sunshine
allows your child to build fundamental math skills while they
are endlessly entertained. Your
child will count, add and sort
their way through engaging games.
(and since we have been learning about germ)
xGerms counting
xGerms Counting lets you practice
counting up to 50 by capturing hordes
of goofy germs. You'll count by 1s and
then by 10s, 5s, and 2s.
If you have any tried and tested Apps
you would like to share with families,
please let me know. Preferably with a numeracy or literacy focus.

We have also recently been granted 2 additional pupil free

new partnership. This was discussed at last nights Governing
Council meeting and it was proposed that we would hold
these pupil free days during term 4 on the Friday Kindy
Learning about changes in the weather
Muddy Puddle Jump
People who help us: Ambulance visit, CFS visit and
a visit to the police station.
Literacy learning: afternoon groups focussing on
Rhyme.
Learning about our body: bones, germs, senses
sessions. So tentatively the dates for these will be 14/11 and
21/11.
This means that Friday kindy will now be held on the
following dates only: 31/10, 7/11 and the twilight kindy concert
will be held on 28/11. I will do up a term 4 planner once
transition details are in place — this will be confirmed by
governing council prior to you receiving it. Please forward
any comments or concerns to a member of gov council or
myself.
Transition survey—
Last newsletter I sent home a transition survey.
Thank-you to those who have completed their survey.
We value your opinion about the things you
consider important, things that you are worried about and how you would like to see your
child’s transition go. We will use these surveys in our future meetings with the school.
Governing Council Highlights
Tues 1 July 2014
Playgroup: Alanna had received feedback that the council will not fund playgroup staff.
Kindy staff will continue to volunteer to run playgroup sessions next term and we will
begin to look at the cost of paying for staff it in the future. Maybe will need to fundraise
more to achieve this.
Facebook Auction: Will begin in the holidays. Beck is calling for donations from all
kindy families.
Excursion: will be held in week 2, 31 July 2014. We will be going to Port Lincoln for
a day trip to visit Lincoln Children’s centre and Glen Forest Tourist Park.
Rural Care: A model of Rural Care for the kindy was discussed at length at last nights
meeting. The model involved halving the kindy group and offering kindy over 5 days so
that we could offer 8 places of rural care (child care). The Governing Council have voted
on the matter and have resolved that they would prefer for the Inservice Family Day Care
to be implemented and assessed for effectiveness rather than starting Rural care at this
point.
People in our community
who help us
We have been learning about people who help us in the
community. We have had a visit from the CFS, The Ambulance and we walked to the police station.
Outcome: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing

2014 Wudinna Kindy Facebook Auction
Dear families and Kindy community members
We are in the process of organising our biggest fundraiser for the year. Last year our auction was
extremely successful and we raised about $5000 which meant were able to put shade over our swings, sandpit and
playground with the money raised!
For those who don’t know how our auction works, the idea is, we ask each family to offer a service (or NEW goods)
to auction on Facebook. We are asking every Kindy family to donate their time to at least one item.
For example:
Lawn mowing,
car cleaning
shearing morning tea
pot of pumpkin soup
vegie patch dripper system installation
a voucher from your place of work
2 frozen casseroles
2 hours ironing
Car detailing
2 hours gardening
Conditions can apply and reserves are welcome. PLEASE NOTE: This auction will be input taxed.
Thanks

Learning about germs
We found out that germs are tiny and you cant see them. Germs pass from
person to person in the air or on our skin. We can stop spreading germs by
washing our hands with soap and by following the “catch it, bin it, kill it” rule.
We have learnt how to wash our hands correctly and we learnt a little ditty
to sing while we do it! (to frère Jacques)
