Going Batty for Bats!
Did you know that there are sixteen species of bat in Britain? Did you
know Cumbria is home to eight of these species? Did you know a
summer evening is the best time to spot them? Well now you do!
Bats are a nocturnal animal, which means they sleep during the day
and come out at night time, which is why you may see more of
them on a summer’s night. So make sure you keep your eyes
peeled! For more information on bats and other wildlife visit:
www.wildzone-cumbria.org.

A Day in the Life of a Pirate!
Ahoy there mateys! Whoops, I was still in
‘pirate mode’ then! Just a few weeks back we
held our first ‘Ahoy there Pirates’ event of the
year and what a fantastic day it was!
We had two cruises on 6th June and they were both filled with fun, games, face-paint,
water cannons, and of course Scurvy Dogs (children). I can’t wait for our next pirate
day on 22nd August. It’s just over one month away, so I’d better get practicing my
“Arggggghhhs”. You can find out more information about our ‘Ahoy there Pirates’
event on our website.
Challenge Sammy!
Here I am at Howtown, taking part in
Nurture Eden’s Cycling Challenge. I was
just taking a little breather when
‘Steamers’ Welsh Dave took a picture of me!
The aim of the challenge was to use the
map on the Nurture Eden website to try to
find some Olympic torches hidden around
Ullswater. What made it even more fun was
that you had to do it by bike! I found two
torches one at Howtown and one at Hallin
Fell. Did any of you join in the challenge?
Which torches did you find? Write to me to
let me know!
