21 Countries have participated in the International Racing Pigeons
Championships – MIRA OLR 2015
This year, 2015, twenty-one countries (Germany, Austria, Australia, Belgium,
Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Spain, U.S.A, France, United Kingdom, Greece,
Netherlands, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Switzerland, and
Slovakia) have participated in the following championships: European
Championship, European Youth Championship, FCI Grand Prix – Mundial Ranking,
and the Champion League.
Once again, Mira was the capital of the Racing Pigeon, becoming a reference in the
calendar of sports events of the Portuguese Racing Pigeon Federation and for the
International Fanciers from all over the world.
It was with renewed pride that Mira OLR once again received the international
Racing Pigeons Championships, in a wonderful partnership between the City
Council, The International Pigeon Fanciers Federations and the Portuguese Racing
Pigeon Federation.
On the 19th of September, the Mira OLR received thousands of pigeon fanciers
from all over the word and Delegates from several International Federations who
had the opportunity to enjoy the traditional gastronomy.
The 927 pigeons participating in the final race were basketed on Friday, September
18th, at the end of the day. All the baskets were sealed and the pigeons’ physical
conditions, the act of basketing and the arrival of the pigeons were controlled by an
international element, Mr. Leo Machaay (Netherlands) assigned by the organization
of the FCI Grand Prix – Mundial Ranking of the International Pigeon Fanciers
Federation.
The release point was in Loulé (380km) at 7h45. The weather conditions were
great, (Clear sky and no wind). The pigeons orientation was very good.

“Team Sylt 2000 – Heun”, at 14:03:22, the second was a Austrian pigeon but the
third was a Portuguese pigeon, from “Joaquim Guedes.
A giant screen (30 mt2) provided unforgettable images of the arrival of the pigeons,
as well as of the main activities carried out in the One-Loft-Race.
Before the arrival of the pigeons, there was an award ceremony for the winners of
the national championships 2014.
At 20h30, to conclude this international event, there was an “Awards Ceremony
Dinner” in the hotel, where the winners of the international racing pigeons
championships Mira 2015 received their prizes.
