From the Principal…
Welcome back to another year at Longbeach School. This year promises to be another year full of exciting and
challenging learning. We have spent the last few weeks reviewing our practice and programmes and have made
some small changes as we continually strive to improve. This year we will continue to prioritise Literacy and
Numeracy and deliver a balanced curriculum. In 2015 we have a central topic called ‘How Things Work’ for our
Health, Science, Technology, The Arts and Social Science studies. So far this term we have been creating and
establishing classroom routines, completing some team building activities and starting the assessment process.
We have continued our Spanish language and culture lessons in the Y1-8 classrooms. Mrs Sarah Lovell will teach
Spanish to each class for an hour each fortnight.
In addition to Sarah Lovell joining our staff we welcome Mrs Susanne McFarlane to Longbeach School. Susanne
joins us from Geraldine and is Room Flemington’s classroom teacher. Also new to our team is Miss Suzanne
Pomeroy. Suzie joins us after a brief stint in Christchurch after teaching in Melbourne and London. And lastly we
have Mrs Hayley Price who will be team teaching in Room Eiffelton with Miss Yeatman.
Completing our staffing are:
Miss Kelly Holden Y1/2 Rm Ashton – Assistant Principal Miss Sarah Patrick Y2/3 Rm Waterton — Deputy Principal
Miss Jess Yeatman Y4/5 Rm Eiffelton
Mrs Kirsty Stone Y0/1 Rm Willowby
Mrs Melanie Simons ORS & Maths Extension teacher
Mrs Jacqui Quinlan Rm Waterton DP release teacher
Teacher Aides - Mrs Rachael Barron, Mrs Sophia Cramond, Mrs Karyn Fleming, Mrs Judith Findlay and
Mrs Rachel Arnold.
Office Administration - Mrs Elizabeth Lowe & Mrs Debbie Roulston
Grounds management - Mrs Anne Bishop
We are very lucky to have such a great team on board who are very dedicated and passionate about what they do to
enhance learning at Longbeach School.
Assistant Principal Congratulations to Kelly Holden as she has been promoted to AP. Kelly, Sarah and I look
forward to working together to ensure that we deliver the best education we can for all learners.
Sabbatical. Next term I will be on leave for the term as I have been awarded a Sabbatical Award from TeachNZ &
The Ministry of Education. Sarah Patrick is going to take off her deputy badge and be the acting Principal for Term 2.
We have advertised for a teacher to take her class Monday to Thursday. Mrs Jacqui Quinlan will continue her
Fridays in the class as per the rest of the year.
A few important notices
Tuesday 2nd June 2015 - Longbeach School will be closed the Tuesday after Queens Birthday Monday.
A mid-winter break, Sunday, Monday & Tuesday after Saturday sport!
TEXT Messages – keep in touch by receiving our text messages. Simply text follow LBS8 to 8987 and you will
receive the messages on your phone that we post on our Facebook page.
Facebook - Go to our Facebook page, Longbeach School, at www.facebook.com to see messages or ask
questions.
Uniform - It is fantastic to see the majority of our students wearing our uniform so proudly. Please ensure the
students are wearing the correct uniform from head to toe - thanks. Also, please remember it is
compulsory for all children to wear their sunhats when outside in Terms 1 and 4. From Term 1
2015 we will be enforcing the school
uniform hat. This is a navy bucket hat. Students may wear the wide brim big brother to the
bucket. This is to keep our practice in line with our Sun Safe School accreditation.
School Notices…

throw some out. When they get grubby during
the year please wash them and try to keep them
in good condition.
These are kindly loaned to us by
Pearsons Coachlines, and not the property of
Longbeach School.
Thanks.
