President’s Message
Brothers and Sisters:
"Summertime is always the best of what might
be." ~ Charles Bowden
As summer begins this year, the Summer Solstice will coincide with a once in a life time
and rare phenomenon, the blue moon. A full
moon in the month of June is also known as the
'Strawberry Moon', which got its name from Algonquin tribes that
saw the first full moon of the summer as a signal that it was time to
gather the fruits around them. The Strawberry Moon was a cause
for celebration in other countries as well. But since strawberries
didn't originally grow in Europe, people there called it the full 'Rose
Moon'. It's also known in various places worldwide as the 'Hot
Moon', 'Honey Moon' and 'Long Night Moon'.
"...it's a smile, it's a kiss, it's a sip of wine ... it's summertime!" ~ Kenny Chesney
"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass
under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a
waste of time." ~ John Lubbock, The Use Of Life.
As we enter the long, warm days of summer they bring
with them a renewed vitality. Just look around you... the trees are
standing taller, the grass is greener, the flowers blossoms are rich
with color and seem to beckon to be picked to fill your home/room
with fragrance and joy, and even the young offspring that were
born this past winter/spring are finding their way in the world.
Summer helps us forget that winter had us in a deep freeze.
Let us use that 'summers renewed vitality' within our own
Lodge and share the pride we have for our Lodge with others.
Think about who in our lives we have not yet asked to join us at an
event that we have hosted and ask them to join you at our next
event. Think about who in our lives we have not mentioned about
the Constantino Brumidi Lodge or the Order Sons of Italy in
America (soon to be the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in
America) and ask them to be a member.
For the best gift we can all leave our Lodge is Legacy and
that can only happen with new membership. Maybe you yourself
have not been to the Lodge in a while, either to a meeting or to an
event, so come down and have a 'renewed vitality with your Lodge'
again. What better way to do that than at our Summer Family BBQ
which will be hosted right on the Lodge grounds or at one of our
many Culture, Heritage and Family Events.
Whether you choose to spend the summer in your garden, in the pool, at the beach, taking walks in the park or maybe
taking in your favorite sport, don't forget to take time to enjoy the
warmth of the sun, smell the fresh air, feel the water rushing between your toes, smell of the BBQs grilling, catch up with old
friends and why not lay back and watch the clouds float across the
beautiful blue summer sky.
My wish for you, Brothers and Sisters is that this summer
will bring the best of what might be for you ALL and may you always
have Long Night Moons to guide your dreams.
See you ALL at the next General Meeting, Lodge function/
event or reach out if you wish to talk, have a question or concern.
May ALL those affected by the recent terror attacks as well
as those affected by senseless violence each and every day around
the world, Rest In Peace. May we come to live, one day, in a World
of Peace.
Always, keep in your prayers our Brothers and Sisters who
are sick; our deceased members; and ALL the Service men and
women that protect and keep us safe each and every day here and
abroad.
God Bless,
In Unity,
Daniel
