involvement. Earlier in the year we launched the new website www.tna8.org. Success
stories, promotions, special announcements are invited to be shared for publication. We
continue to utilize TNA state office to send blast emails announcing every event we offer.
There are members who report not receiving the newsletters; therefore, it continues to be a challenge to
make connection with members. I would remind you to check your Spam mail as you troubleshoot. We use the
email address listed in your membership profile at the TNA. Please let us know if you continue to not receive the

On Aug 27, 2014, we participated in “Can We Talk” again which is a coalition of over 65 women’s organizations
in San Antonio which commemorate Women’s History Month and Women’s Equality Day and Texas Women’s
Independence Day. The event was held at the Institute if Texas Cultures. The speaker for the occasion was Jessica
Buchanan, who was abducted by a group of Somalis and held in captivity for 93 days …Her presentation focused on
surviving impossible odds. Her speech was both inspiring and motivating. District 8 members participated again by
assisting with registration and other administrative activities.
Congratulations go out to Dr. Jennifer Cook and Dr. Eula Pines. On September 28, 2014, the Medical Center
Rotary recognized both as recipients of the Nightingale Excellence in Nursing Award. They were recognized during
their annual Gala.
Once again, I will reiterate that we are always in need of volunteers to serve on committees. Please contact
me if you desire to serve on a committee. I would encourage you to submit electronically any announcements that
you would like published on the website site or the newsletter. [email protected]
Lastly, I want to thank the Board of Directors and Committee Chairs who have diligently volunteered their
time and efforts to ensure we have been successful in all1 endeavors that we set out to do. I look forward to
another year of success for District 8. Sarah J. Williams.

the topic and the excellent delivery by Dr. Dols.
There were 28 members present and 2 nursing
students from Schreiner University. The
Business meeting included reports from the
president, treasurer and membership
committee. The nomination committee
introduced the ballot results.

bracelets. A contribution of $200.00 was
donated by District 8 to help cover the cost for
“raw materials to build gingerbread houses. “
Students from Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing
at the University of the Incarnate Word worked
together to gather donations in the form of
clothing, shoes, toys, etc. for the Haven for
Hope residents.

for enrichment and strengthening of nurses in
the field of informatics. South Texas Chapter
members must be members or join ANIA (dues
are currently $60 annually), however no

Nursing Informatics professionals represent a
wide spectrum of nurses who have a specialty
practice that is essential to the delivery of high
quality, cost-effective care. They integrate
nursing science, computer science, and
information science to manage and
communicate data, information, knowledge,
and wisdom in nursing and informatics
practice. Their ability to optimize information
management and communication improves the
health of populations, communities, families,
and individuals. (ANA, 2008)
