Run the Runway unique
event for Air Force, 8 Wing
By Ross Lees
It was a unique event serving several purposes, not
the least of which was supporting Soldier On and
the Military Families Fund.
But the first ever Run the Runway at CFB
Trenton Sunday served two other purposes –
keeping Air Force members fit and allowing them
to do something with their families.
Several hundred 8 Wing members and their
families donned red shorts and T-shirts to participate in the event which closed the runway Sunday morning and included five or seven kilometre
runs and a three kilometre family fun run, walk
pedal or push. The event was open to all members
of the military family including Department of
National Defence civilian employees and CFPSA
employees.
8 Wing Commanding Officer Colonel Sean
Friday said it was the first time he had ever run
the runway and was looking forward to the experience.

the AF is celebrating the Air Force Run, so at every single Air Force Base (AFB), something like

By Ross Lees
It was a long haul with most of
the excitement coming in the final
stage.
Twenty-five days after it left
Cascade Aerospace Inc.’s headquarters at Abbotsford International
Airport, B.C., a Hercules fuselage
trainer arrived at 8 Wing’s 426
Squadron Air Mobility Training
Centre (AMTC) on Friday, May
25.
Shrouded in white plastic, the
trainer was on the longest over-sized
truck shipment ever to be transported in British Columbia, measuring
190 feet from the nose of the truck
to the end of the load.
The massive device will be installed at the AMTC, to be used

The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) successfully flew a CC-130H Hercules aircraft using a semisynthetic jet fuel, blended with plant-sourced oil,
for the first time on May 23, at 8 Wing Trenton.
Under the technical guidance and support of
the Department of National Defence’s Quality Engineering Test Establishment (QETE), this demonstration flight tested the efficacy of a blended jet
fuel with 50 per cent F-34 and 50 per cent fuel derived from the Camelina plant.
“F-34 [also known as JP-8] is the jet fuel used
by NATO countries including Canada,” said Mr.
Pierre Poitras of QETE. “During this flight demonstration, we tested the suitability of an alternative jet fuel using Camelina-derived fuel blended
with F-34 as substitute or replacement for conventional aviation fuel. We’re happy with the results,”
he added.

The bio fuel demonstration flight started with a 24hour leak check and was followed by almost two hours of
flight on 424 (Transport) Squadron’s Legacy Hercules aircraft.
According to 424 Squadron pilot Major (Maj) Wayne
Sippola, they flew the aircraft 100 miles to the north from 8
Wing Trenton, then south to Sandbanks in Prince Edward
County before landing back at the base.

Disappointed at DND’s cuts to
operational health research
At the same time that DND has
admitted that the numbers of
suicide incidents in the Canadian Forces have risen, how is it
possible that the department is
eliminating the jobs of medical
professionals involved in suicide
prevention and monitoring of
post-traumatic stress disorders?
They are actually reducing the
number of epidemiologists and
researchers who analyze mental
health issues.
This government has previously asserted that dealing with
such health issues is a priority.
How can the government announce on the one hand that it
appreciates the sacrifices made
by our veterans and then turn
around and cut the services and
research efforts needed to treat
those same men and women, at a
time when they need it most?
The Royal Canadian Legion
is extremely concerned with this
move, especially with the increase
of suicide incidents in the Canadian Forces. The full extent of the

En même temps que le Ministère de la Défense nationale

comment se fait-il que le ministère décide d’éliminer les postes

to the Legacy Hercules aircraft; i.e. Rolls-Royce/Allison
T-56-A-15. The test was successful, which led to the
flight testing that is needed for the certification of the
Camelina fuel blend specification.
“This bio-jet fuel along with similar bio-crude materials has great potential to become a sustainable and
renewable alternative to conventional fuel, which would
provide flexibility to the Canadian Forces with respect to
fuel security,” said Mr. Poitras.
The Legacy Hercules’ flight test on bio-jet fuel supports Canada’s industrial effort in producing alternate
fuels and the CF’s commitment to adopt greener products.
“Our interoperability with NATO and US allies is
of prime importance to CF operations,” said LieutenantColonel Geoffrey Carter from the Directorate of Fuel
and Lubricants. “Since our allies are exploring the use of
bio-jet fuel, we also want to ensure that when our countries work together, our equipment, handling processes,
as well as the type of fuel that we use are interoperable,”
he added.
Camelina sativa is an oil plant in the family Brassicaceae from the mustard family. It is a promising alternative to conventional fuel as it does not compete with the
food chain simply because it is not part of any human or
animal diet.
“This plant contains heavy concentration of lipids
that when purified and refined, turns into a fuel like the
crude oil that we extract from the ground,” said Mr. Poitras.
The oil extracted from the Camelina plant goes
through a purification process where all trace contaminants are removed followed with a refining process,
called hydro-processing to remove oxygenate and nitrogen compounds and convert triglyceride materials into
synthetic paraffinic kerosene (SPK) of the same composition as conventional jet fuel made from crude oil
extracted from the ground. This refining process can be
potentially adapted to any refineries in Canada.
June 1, 2012
Plant-sourced jet fuel could be a promising new industry for Canadian farmers.
“Though the Camelina plant is mostly grown in
the United States, a similar type of plant called Brassica Carinata is found to be better suited for Canadian
soil and climate,” said Mr. Poitras. “This plant is best
cycled with canola and mustard plants that are farmed in
Western Canada. Within 90 days, Carinata can be fully
grown and you can actually extract lipids from this oilseeds plant and start producing the bio oil that can be
refined into a jet fuel. It can also grow in poorer soils and
it is heat tolerant.” he added.
A conventional jet fuel blended with plant-sourced
fuel is better for the environment due to its potential for
the reduction of greenhouse gases emissions.
“Carbon emission from aircraft engines is a function
of the concentration of aromatic hydrocarbons allowed
in conventional jet fuel. Bio-jet fuel SPKs derived from
Camelina or Carinata does not contain any aromatic
material, which basically reduces carbon emissions when
blended with 50 per cent F-34, to meet the minimum
aromatic concentration of the jet fuel specification,” he
said.
An aircraft engine requires at least eight per cent aromatic hydrocarbon in order to work properly. A typical
jet fuel has between 15 to 25 per cent maximum aromatic content. So when blended with Camelina fuel, which
does not contain any aromatic material, the hydrocarbon
content of the blended jet fuel becomes less than 10 per
cent.
“Less aromatic substance in the jet fuel typically
means less carbon emissions and soot formation,” he
said. “We’ve seen up to a 40 per cent decrease in carbon
and particulate matter emissions by using alternative fuel
that is blended 50 per cent with conventional fuel, so
there’s quite a difference in the amount of pollutants being emitted,” he noted.
The success of the RCAF’s green flight test is a step
toward maximizing the potentials of plant-sourced alternative fuel to ensuring energy security and cleaner air.

BGen Reid visits’ 8 Wing’s reservists
By Lt A.N. McKinley
Brigadier General (BGen) Reid, the Air Reserve Advisor and
Deputy Commander Support 1 Canadian Air Division, and
Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) visited 8 Wing on May 10 to
speak at the Reserves Town Hall that was convened.
Since the changes to the Reserves work policies that were
announced earlier in the year, many reservists have been understandably worried about the future of their employment,
specifically, the changes to the policies surrounding the topic
of no longer allowing members to be annuitants collecting a
pension and able to work on a full-time contract.
“We have created a website where all of the questions are
posted and a deadline is assigned. It also shows who is working on it,” said BGen Reid. “We want to be as transparent as
possible.”
Twenty per cent to of the present day Air Force is made
up of Reservists. Different from the Army or the Navy, Reserve Air Force members are integrated directly into day-today operations domestically and internationally.
Reserve employment has surged in the past years due
to the high operational tempo for missions, especially in Afghanistan. Now that the CF has returned home, they havee
commissioned a Primary Reserve Study, which is a “snapshot
in time” to determine if the present reserve employment is sustainable. This study used a Full-Time Equivalency (FTE) as

“This centralized location allows me to
meet that time. Also, we will never have

The new facility, which is expected to
be finished by the summer of 2013, will
accommodate 14 truck bays, a vehicle
wash area, a control room, offices, training
rooms, equipment maintenance areas and
firefighter sleeping and support rooms.
However, MWO Rene feels one of
the biggest assets of the new building is
the wash/recharge bay.
“If I’m fighting an extremely big fire
and let’s say the Red 5 driver tells me his
vehicle needs to go for a recharge, he’s the
only man I need to send with that vehicle,” MWO Rene noted. “He will be able

“It will really make a big difference,”

In the process for four years now, MWO Rene stated.
The one drawback he is aware of at
the new 3 176 square-metre, $12.1 million building will allow the 64 firefight- this time is that the firefighters will be a

The new, centralized location will and safer now that they only have to turn

Garden chemicals are a growing concern
Pesticide application is a very serious business. Unless you have a commercial application license, you should use only products identified as domestic. Chemicals
labelled commercial or registered have a far greater hazard potential and should
only be used by trained personnel.
When the chemicals you buy need to be mixed or diluted before use, following
the directions on the label is very important. This is the time when risk is at its highest because you are working directly with the undiluted product. Be near a water
tap so spills and hands can be washed quickly. The mixing area should be clean, well
ventilated and away from children, pets, food storage and laundry areas.
Allowing even a tiny amount of these chemicals to be taken into the body by
breathing, swallowing or absorption through the skin is very hazardous. The following protective measures should be strictly followed:
• Wear clean rubber gloves and protective clothing when handling chemicals,
and a respirator whenever recommended.
• Eye protection should be worn particularly when using products that carry the
words warning or danger. Goggles offer superior protection to glasses because
they completely enclose the eye. Contact lenses should not be worn, especially
the soft or gas permeable type. Vapours can be absorbed by the contacts and
concentrated near the cornea even when goggles are worn.
• Do not store pesticides or empty pesticide containers anywhere near food or
drink.
• Do not eat, drink or smoke in a work area. Ensure the measuring cup used in
your greenhouse will not be the same one used to make Grandma’s favourite
cookies.
• Never rub your eyes or touch your mouth while working with chemicals.
• Wash your hands thoroughly before and after eating, drinking, smoking or using the toilet.
A common problem of chemical application is drift. Pesticide droplets may be
picked up and carried by the wind, rendering them both unsafe and ineffective. To
best eliminate drifting, keep the droplet size as large as possible, and apply chemi-

cals on a day with little or no wind.
Dispose of and store all chemicals according to the specific recommendations
on the label. Keep all chemicals in their original containers with readable labels. A
locked cabinet in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area is the safest place for storage.
In the event that a pesticide or other chemical is swallowed, call a doctor immediately. Have the label of the chemical with you when you call and give all possible information to your physician or poison control operator. Most regions have
toll-free numbers for their Poison Control Centers. Be sure to find out the number
of your Poison Control Center and have it posted near your telephone.
Immediately flush skin and eyes with water for at least 20 minutes should any
chemicals splash on them.
After exposure to harmful substances, be aware of nausea, skin rashes or other flu-like symptoms. Report any such
reactions to your doctor.
Always look for a safer alternative.
Garden chemicals are often unpleasant to use
and can kill more than insects. There are also a
number of organic gardening methods to help
control weeds and pests. These ways are not only
healthier for you, but also better for the environment. Talk to your local gardening centers for
more information on ways to control pests without the use of chemicals.
Safety with garden chemicals starts before they
even reach your garden. Knowledge is the key. Be sure
what you are buying suits your needs. Some compounds
are toxic to certain plant species, and extra caution must
be used when selecting chemicals for fruit and vegetable
plants. In such cases be sure the compound is registered for use on plants consumed for food.

Two giant cranes
begin the process
of unloading the
fuselage trainer.
continued from page 1
allow loadmasters to carry out realistic training, the
trainer duplicates the entire tail section of a Hercules, and was constructed from five different C-130
aircraft fuselage pieces.
“This is the most advanced training device of its
type in the world, said Lieutenant-Colonel Christian
Roy, 426 Squadron commanding officer. “It will significantly reduce our historical dependence on actual
airframes to conduct realistic training in a controlled
environment. That training will include the full range
of Loadmaster duties and responsibilities from routine to emergency operation of the CC-130J.”
Despite the long journey through the Rocky
Mountains and over the prairies, the most difficult
part of the trip was the final 100 km or so, according
to the transport driver.
“The wheels on the trailer turn and when we
came to a sharp turn, we had to turn the trailer, as
well,” he told The Contact. “But we only had a couple
of those instances on the prairies. The worst part was
from Peterborough to Trenton. We probably had half
a dozen spots that caused some problems.”
Upon arrival at CFB Trenton, installation of the
fuselage trainer went extremely well, according to
LCol Roy.
“The installation of the fuselage trainer went
without a hitch,” he said. “It took less than three
hours to unload and install it in the fuselage trainer
hall.”
While within the confines of the AMTC by
Sunday afternoon, LCol Roy indicated it would take
a few days to complete the installation.
“It will take a few days until all supports are installed and the computer hookups are completed to
start checking the systems,” he stated, adding he did
not expect it to be functional until Oct. 12.
Montreal-based CAE and Abbotsford-based
Cascade worked together to produce the trainer,
with Cascade designing and building the training
device and CAE designing the simulation-based
training modules.
“There is nothing quite like this fuselage trainer
anywhere else in the world,” David Schellenberg,
Chief Executive Officer of Cascade noted. “Its resemblance to a brand new C-130J is remarkable.”
“I’m really surprised at how much interest this
is causing,” the transport driver remarked Sunday as
people kept arriving at the site to watch the manoeuvring of the fuselage.
Because the angle into the building was not
completely straight, the fuselage had to be offloaded
from the trailer onto the driveway in front of the
hall. It was then pulled by a mule and wiggled several
times to get it lined up on the spot it would eventually be installed.

Family Day Saturday.
Families enjoy 426 Squadron’s Family Day
By Ross Lees
Firefighter Cpl Larry Martin helps Anthony Owens

Schenn wore when the Leafs visited 8 Wing at the
beginning of the 2011-12 NHL season.
426 Squadron’s Family Day did just what it was
supposed to do – allow squadron members and
their families to have some fun while enjoying
some time in the new squadron headquarters.
“This is our chance to thank the families of
our members for their support throughout the
year,” Lieutenant-Colonel Christian Roy told The
Contact. “Our jobs can be all-consuming and take
up a lot of time away from our families, so this is
our chance to give some of that time back.”
LCol Roy said the day takes a great deal of effort from everyone in the squadron and others like
436 Squadron to supply an aircraft for the day.
“It takes a great team effort and we want to say
thanks for the support our families have given us,”
he noted.
The fun-packed day allowed families to see the
working environment of their military members but
also to experience fun aspects of military life. Fam-
ily members were taken through and given rides on
the J-model simulator, they saw a CC150 Polaris static
display and were given rides on a Hercules. There was
face painting, bouncy castles and a huge blow-up slide,
fire truck rides and a barbecue to fill in the day.
But perhaps the highlight of the day, for young
and old, was the presence of Maple Leaf great Ron
Ellis with the Rocket Richard trophy. Mr. Ellis spent
the day with his son, Capt R.J. Ellis of 426 Squadron,
adding a little extra to the entire family day event.
The day and the effort put forth by squadron members were appreciated by LCol Roy and the squadron
family members.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank
Capt Ellis and MCpl Steve Owens for the outstanding
work they did for our Family Day,” LCol Roy noted.
“I know that many of you were also involved in assisting them for all of the activities offered, and I thank
you also. The static displays, HTF tour, simulator rides,
family flights, kid’s activities and fire truck rides were

greatly appreciated by all of our family members.”
Col Roy could not resist a small jibe at the traditional foes of his favourite
hockey team – the Montreal Canadiens.
“Of note, I would like to offer my sincere thanks to Mr. Ron Ellis for bringing
a trophy that honours the best hockey player of all time who played for the best
hockey team ever. It was certainly a memorable occasion for all of us to meet and
have our picture taken with an actual player from the Maple Leafs that had actually
tasted champagne from the Stanley Cup – very rare indeed,” he said with a smile.
It did not cause offence with Mr. Ellis, who said he was just glad there were
so many hockey fans present and he wanted them to have the chance to physically
touch the trophy.

Using Sun Sense
June 1, 2012
Fitness & Health
itness & Health
Nobody wants to stay inside when the sun’s shining. So
when you’re outside, using a little sun sense can protect
you and your family from sunburn.
What can you do? If you can, plan your outdoor activities before 11 a.m. or after 4 p.m. when the sun is not
at its strongest, or any time of the day when the UV Index
is three or less.
Remember, if your shadow’s shorter than you, it’s
time to find some shade or go inside. If you can’t find
shade, create your own. Take along an umbrella – that way
you can have shade wherever you need it.
Babies need extra protection because their skin is very
sensitive. It’s best to keep babies out of direct sunlight.
Use clothing that covers their arms and legs, add a hat
and put on a little sunscreen. Put the stroller, playpen or
carriage in the shade – under trees or an umbrella.
Cover up. One of the best ways to make sure you
don’t burn is to cover up. Choose clothing that is: loose
fitting – like a t-shirt, tightly woven, lightweight
Where’s my hat? Don’t forget to grab your hat on
your way out! Most skin cancers happen on the face and
neck. These areas need extra protection.
Wear a hat with a wide brim that covers your head,
face, ears and neck. Hats like baseball caps won’t give you
enough protection.
Put sunscreen on your ears, chin and neck even when
you’re wearing a hat.
Wear your sunglasses. Sunglasses can help prevent
damage to your eyes by blocking a large amount of UV
rays. Keep your shades on and make sure your children
wear them too. Choose sunglasses with: even shading, medium to dark lenses (grey, brown or green tint). Look for
UVA and UVB protection. These features can be found
in many inexpensive sunglasses.
Sunscreen – Don’t leave home without it. Sunscreen

can’t block all the sun’s rays. Use it along with shade,
clothing and hats, not instead of them. Use sunscreen as a
backup in your sun protection plan.
Your sunscreen should have a sun protection factor
(SPF) 15 or higher, and if you work outdoors or are planning to be outside most of the day, use an SPF 30.
Look for “broad spectrum” on the label. This means
that the sunscreen offers protection against both UVA
and UVB ultraviolet rays.
Apply your sunscreen generously and at least 20 minutes before going outside. Read the label and follow the
instructions for reapplying. Don’t forget to cover your
nose, ears and the tops of your feet. Use a waterproof sunscreen if you’re in or near water.
Avoid indoor tanning. Just like the sun, tanning beds
and sun lamps release UV rays that can cause sunburn,
damage skin and increase the risk of skin cancer.
Check your skin regularly. You can never be completely safe from the sun. Over time, exposure to UV rays
may cause skin cancer. Get to know the skin you’re in and
report any changes to your doctor.
Did You Know
Many people feel that they are not exercising unless they are actually working out in the gym. Your body
doesn’t know the difference between walking to your boss’s
office and walking on a treadmill. Using the stairs, taking
the bike to the post office, walking to work, shovelling the
driveway and mowing the lawn are just a few examples of
the opportunities you have to steal some exercise in your
busy day. The more exercise you steal the more your body
will love you.
Please see our website for upcoming unit programming or call local 3767 to book a unit training today!

Stay hydrated every day. Basic fluid needs
are about 2 litres per day plus replacement
of any fluid lost from sweating. By the time
you are thirsty you are already 2% dehydrated which equates to a 15-20% decline in
performance.
Start exercise hydrated. Ample, light
coloured urine means well hydrated. Dark,
scant urine signals a need for more fluid.
Drink 300–500 mL of fluid at least 4 hours
before exercise. Drink 150–350 mL of fluid
about 2 hours before exercise, if you have
not produced any urine or if your urine is
still bright yellow. LIMIT beverages that
contain caffeine and alcohol.
During exercise, drink enough fluid to
prevent excessive dehydration. Sweat rates
range from 0.4 to 1.8 litres per hour, depending on the individual, the type of sport,
and the weather conditions. Drink about
0.4–0.8 L of fluid per hour (about 150–350
mL every 15-20 minutes). Test the amount
and type of fluid in training.
After exercise, replace any fluid and
electrolyte deficit. Note that significant dehydration (more than 2–3 pounds weight
loss) takes 24–48 hours for complete recovery. Include sodium with foods or in fluids
consumed after exercise. Sodium enhances
thirst and fluid retention and helps maintain plasma electrolyte balance.

this is going on,” he said prior to the event. “The idea is that we’re
trying to celebrate the fact that fitness and the AF are one and the
same.
“But at the same time, we’re trying to create something that
allows us to spend some time with our families,” he added.
Col Friday acknowledged there would be work undertaken on
some other options for next year’s event, as the annual event builds
some momentum. He reminded everyone the event was for fun
and fitness, and was not competitive.
“So just go out there and have some fun, run the runway which
I’ve never personally done before, and spend some time together
celebrating fitness in the AF,” he stated.
8 Wing Chief Warrant Officer Sandor Gyuk said he often sees
red, but he liked the red he was seeing Sunday morning.
“I’m really pleased to see you out here supporting the good
causes of Soldier On and the Military Family Fund,” he said.
A mass start saw the sea of red flow down the runway and then
break off in different directions as 8 Wing members and their
families and associates proceeded on the route they chose to run.
Race marshal Capt Claudine Vachon told The Contact after the
event she never got an official total of how many people participated, but that she was very happy with the turnout.
“I was not expecting that many participants and I was really
pleased to see all the family members who joined in the event,” she
noted. “This is a new initiative across the AF and every wing held
an event on Sunday. Last Sunday was the inaugural Air Force Run
and it is expected that such an event will be continued in future
years.”
Wing Public Affairs Officer Capt Steven Dieter said he felt
most people didn’t look at it as a competitive event, but a time to
have some fun with their colleagues and family.
“Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves and had fun,” he said.

cases of mental illness, arising from the heavy operational tempo in the Balkans and Afghanistan, has not likely been felt yet.
The government and Canadians have sent these men and women to deploy and serve in these missions abroad and therefore have a moral obligation
to ensure they are properly cared for once they return. The announced cuts
give the government a failing grade. Without operational research in this area,
Canada will be forced to resort to reactive treatment while abandoning the
proactive education and prevention of mental illness to our troops.
It is unacceptable that these cuts are being made on the backs of our most
vulnerable and mentally ill soldiers, sailors, airmen and airwomen. There is no
better way to demonstrate their commitment to support the men and women
who serve their country than by not making these cuts.

note.

WEEK OF May 27 TO June 2, 2012
The luckiest signs this week: Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces
ARIES
Business should be excellent for you at the moment if you work in sales. You’re a great negotiator and can close
a sale to your advantage.
TAURUS
You will need to define your feelings more precisely if you’re in a new relationship. Emotions aren’t always easy
to cope with in a working environment.
GEMINI
You’ll spend part of this week coordinating family matters. Perhaps a bit of discipline will also be necessary for
the younger ones. You feel the need for a lasting peace.
CANCER
You don’t feel at a loss for words this week. As you tend to say everything you think, you will help make certain
situations more equitable.
LEO
Even though you like a bit of luxury, you are also capable of controlling any impulsive shopping. You could decide
to organize a very profitable garage sale.
VIRGO
You will be faced with a situation that will require a swift reaction. If this happens at work, your response will be
noted and a good promotion or bonus will result.
LIBRA
Mars has been in Virgo for some time now, so it’s possible that your vitality is dwindling. Don’t allow yourself to
neglect your need for sleep, and take care to eat a healthier diet.
SCORPIO
One of your friends may invite you to participate in some interesting activities. Perhaps you should also take the
time to relax and go to a spa or some sort of wellness centre.
SAGITTARIUS
You may have to take over the role of leader without being fully prepared. You will have to manage a considerable

New Pilot Project Francophone Pre-school
Program
The Trenton MFRC has been
approached by the Regional
French Network to offer a
French-language
Pre-school
program within our Licensed
Daycare. Although we offer
bilingual services at this time
there is no French language
service in the Hastings area.
We will be offering 8 preschool
spaces for this program in September 2012. In order for this
program to move forward and
be successful we must receive
enough registration and have
qualified staff to facilitate the
program.
This program aims to enhance Childrens French language skills prior to entering a
French/Immersion school sys-

tem.
We are requesting parents
to come into the Daycare and
fill out a registration form and
pay a registration fee of $30 per
child to show your commitment. Start date: Sept. 10. Ages:
2.6 to four years of age. Fee:
$38.50 full day. Pre-register by
June 24. For any further questions, please contact Denise
Currie at 613-965-4121.

Plan No: 1-2-649
For more floor plans, visit www.jenish.com
The plans for this attractive two-family home, with arts-andcrafts detailing in the mullioned windows, include an unfinished
basement for future expansion.
In the two-bedroom home on the left side of the building,
a covered entry leads into a compact foyer, with the second bedroom to the left and a handy computer room to the right. A coat
closet is located near the stairway down to the unfinished basement.
The great room features a gas fireplace, as well as large
windows overlooking a sundeck, with stairs down to the back
garden. The dining room includes french doors that open to a
covered deck, perfect for year-round grilling and al fresco meals
in the warmer months.
The kitchen is divided from the dining room and great room
by a hexagonal prep island and two-seat eating bar. Double sinks
are located in the prep island, so whoever draws dish duty will
not feel isolated.
The kitchen’s corner pantry will provide welcome storage,
and the L-shaped counter configuration will save steps for the
cook.

The master bedroom includes an ensuite with a soaker tub
and double sinks, as well as a shower stall. The walk-in closet
should be large enough for the most fashion-conscious couple’s
clothing. A linen cupboard is tucked in near the entrance.
A three-piece bathroom is located across the foyer from the
second bedroom.
Completing the lay-out is a laundry room with a coat cupboard and access to the double garage. Ceilings all measure nine
feet.
The east wing of the home contains a one-bedroom suite.
A covered entry leads into a foyer with a coat closet. Nearby is a
cupboard with a stacked washer and dryer, tucked in just outside
the three-piece bath.
The bedroom is located across from a linen closet, and includes an extra-wide sill.
The open-plan living room opens through sliding doors to
a covered patio. The kitchen has a two-seat eating bar and an efficient U-shaped counter configuration.
This two-family home measures 62 feet wide and 70 feet,
two inches deep, for a total of 2,232 square feet.
