Thank You!
Thank you to our Carnival sponsors who have already
sent in their forms and donations. It is such a help to
receive these early contributions and we so appreciate
your commitment.
Please consider giving a sponsor letter to a contractor you
have employed, a particular professional you hire
(medical, legal, financial advisor, etc.), or the owner of a
restaurant you frequent. The Carnival offers a unique
opportunity to promote local businesses and allow them to
support St. Catherine's. Last year over 90 businesses and
individuals joined in our celebration with monetary
donations or donations in kind. Sponsor forms are
available on our website at www.stcath.org.
Once again, St. Catherine of Siena Carnival of Fun will be
marching in the Old Greenwich Memorial Day Parade! If
you would like to be a part of the fun, please email
[email protected]. We would like to be able to fill an
entire truck with parishioners!
PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN
Most organizations that work with children have some sort
of child safety program. Through the Protecting God’s
Children program, efforts are made to help churches and
religious organizations refine their roles as child-safe
environments and empower caring adults to protect
children.
Child abusers seek to operate and abuse their power
within nurturing, child-friendly environments where it is
assumed that nobody would want to harm a child.
Religious organizations are an easy target. The Protecting
God's Children program implements safety mechanisms
that send a message to all abusers and potential abusers.
Maximizing a church's role as a child-safe environment
begins with making adults more aware of the ways children
and adults interact with each other. The Protecting God's
Children program educates and trains adults (clergy,
religious, teachers, staff, volunteers, and parents) about
the dangers of abuse, the warning signs of abuse, the
ways to prevent abuse, the methods of properly reporting
suspicions of abuse, and responding to allegations of
abuse.
We begin by making adults of the Church that interact with
children aware of how to protect them by reminding them
that to protect children you must have continuous
awareness and vigilance. This awareness session helps
trainees understand the signs of child sexual abuse, the
methods and means by which offenders commit abuse,
and five empowerment steps one can use to prevent child
sexual abuse.

Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m.
Lucey Parish Hall
This is the fifth year we’re offering “The Corner Office
Perspective.” And whether you’re seeking your next career
opportunity, want to get an insider’s perspective of how
business “gets done,” or simply want to network with
community members with common life interests - this is an
event for you.
As before, The Corner Office Perspective will feature an
“off the record” panel discussion with a group of multifunctional senior business executives from the St.
Catherine community working in such fields as Not-forProfit, Consumer Products, Education, and Financial
Services. This will be an interactive evening and topics we
expect to cover include:





Personal business life experiences, successes,
challenges, and insights gained as job seekers, hiring
managers, and business executives - to include
“aha!” moments
How their organizations make hiring decisions?
Where are the best areas for job growth - in their
organizations and the economy?
What they, and their organizations, seek in a new
employee?
Any other business-related questions that you, as
attendees might, want to ask.
A 6:30 p.m. networking reception will be held prior to the
event.
The presentation will be moderated by Jack Blessington,
Executive Producer at CBS and member of the SCSC
Steering Committee. Says Jack, “We expect this to be
another informative and fun evening. And we’re happy to
once again combine a job market discussion with a
networking event - and to draw on the expertise of some
truly talented people from our community.” To reserve a
space at the SCSC table, RSVP to event chairperson
Celeste Robledo at [email protected].
St Catherine’s Support Circle was formed in early 2009 to
support people seeking jobs in the current challenging economic
environment. The group continues to encourage participation by
both job seekers and those interested in providing their advice
and support. To read about helpful information and
recommended resources for job seekers, visit the parish web site
www.stcath.org, first link to Community Life, and then link to the
SCSC page.
The SCSC steering committee includes professionals who have
experience in diverse areas including human resources,
executive search, career coaching, clinical career counseling,
general management, education, marketing, public relations,
finance, accounting and IT. If you have similar experience, and
would be interested in joining your fellow professionals on the
committee, please contact SCSC Steering Committee Chairman
Bob Sloane at [email protected]

unique and fun way. At the end of the week, the children will
present a play based on this "Going for the Gold" theme.
Samantha Kaufmann is a singer, songwriter and recording
artist from the San Francisco Bay area. She has developed
over fifty theme based programs based on Scripture,
supported by her original music, stories, poetry and dramas.
Her book "The Story of the Little Star" is used nationally for

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.”
Gospel Reflection John 14:23-29
In the gospel today, Jesus continues to speak about love. Those who
live will experience God's love in their lives and the gift of peace that
only Christ can give. Jesus also promises to send the Paraclete, or the
Comforter, to his disciples. The Paraclete is the Holy Spirit, who will
guide the Church for all time. Jesus' followers will not be left on their
own.
Question of the Week: Who are the people who have helped you
believe? Whom do you help?
Family Discussion Questions for the Gospel
If Jesus' gift to us is peace, why do we so often lack peace in our
hearts, in our homes, and in our world? What does loving Jesus and
being true to his word have to do with the gift of peace that he
promises?
We believe that God is Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The sign
of the cross that we pray so often affirms our faith. One day this week,
be aware of yourself as a child of God the Father. How does this affect
you, your attitudes, your prayers? Another day, be aware of the gift of
Jesus to us. How does this affect you, your attitudes, your prayers?
Another day, be aware of the Comforter, God the Holy Spirit, that
Jesus promised. How does this awareness of the Spirit affect you, your
attitudes, your prayers? If you have any thoughts or questions about
today’s Gospel, or any questions, let me know at
[email protected]. I’d love to hear from you.
