Users Guide to Analytics on theFort
Log into theFort.
Click on the Analytics Tab. If you do not see the Analytics Tab after signing into the Fort, email
[email protected] or see instructions at the end of this document.
We will be looking at the Institutional Analytics Dashboards.
Program Review:
The first tab in all the dashboard is a title page. It reminds the user that the information is for internal use
only, has a link to the FERPA Policies and information about who is the author of the dashboard.
Enrollment by Major tab
Slicers allow you to make predefined selections.
You can Drill Down into a value by double clicking on it. Say you want to see the concentrations in Business
Administration. You can double click on any bar in the Business Administration section of the chart or double
click on the Business Administration column label on the table.
Slicers
Double Click to Drill
The Dice function allows you to analyze the data on variables that are not visible on the dashboard.
For example, for the School of Business Administration you would like to see the Race and Ethnic breakdown
for enrolled students. To accomplish this hover over one of the numbers in the chart Enrollment Trends by
School in the School of Business Admin group and right click. Hover over IPEDS Ethnicity and click on the
Hierarchy IPEDS Ethnicity.
The dashboard now shows for the School of Business the Race/Ethnic breakdown as well as the enrollments in
the concentrations of Business Administration.
Go Back is used when you want to go back to your previous analysis. To accomplish this right click on the
dashboard section that you want to go back in. This will bring up a menu with many options, second from the
bottom is Go Back. Note that the Go Back is specific to the section of the dashboard that you right clicked on.
Say, you no longer want to look at the concentrations within Business Administration. Right click on that part
of the dashboard (not on a number) and select Go Back. This will keep the race/ethnic breakdown for the
school of business and reset the Department information as shown below.
There are many things you can do with the right click on a section of the dashboard. What if you want to
know the percent of total enrollment for each department in SOBA for Fall 2015? Right click on the row label
for Fall Semester 2015 and select Conditional Formatting and Values.
This now shows the percent of total for all Major Departments in Fall 15.
Now you want to print this great analysis. There are two ways. If you just want to export part of the analysis,
say the Race/Ethnic breakdown, right click on that section of the dashboard (not on a number) and select
Content Export/Quick Export to Excel.
This will export only this section of the Dashboard. Note that row 2 shows the selection criteria.
The second way to export the dashboard outputs to excel the entire dashboard tab contents. Hover over the
pyramids at the top right hand corner of the dashboard and click on the printer icon.
Now select Export content and click on the Export button. You can export to many formats. I use MS Excel.
Now click on Click here to get file.
This will export one sheet for each section of the dashboard. Again, note that the selection criteria are
indicated in rows 2 and 3.
Now you have gotten far away from the original analysis on the dashboard and you want to reset it back to
how it was when you started. To do this hover over the pyramids at the top right hand corner of the
dashboard
and click on the back arrow icon.
If the charts are too small to see you can right click on the section you want to expand and select Zoom to Full
This will give you a full screen of the one chart. To revert back to the full dashboard, right click and select
Zoom to Original.
That is it for now. Have fun exploring the data.
