Help Local Singer/Songwriter Carmel Mikol
To Win John Lennon Song Writing Contest
I write to you from the road, the wind high and the sun
persistent on this brisk afternoon in Cape Cod. I’ve experienced a lot of kindness on this tour. I’m grateful to those
who come out to the shows and are voting for my song
“Twenty Something Girl” in the John Lennon Song Contest.
With only three days left until voting closes, I’m asking
everyone who believes in this song, to take a minute to click
their vote again at www.jlsc.com/vote in the Folk Category.
If you’ve already voted once, voting only takes a second
because they don’t make you verify your email address
again. You can vote once a day.
If we are able to rally enough votes in the next three days,
I will be among only 12 songwriters from around the world
eligible for Song of the Year, international performance opportunities, and a cash prize of $20,000 (which
will go straight toward making my next
record).
Please take a second to show your support. And THANK YOU to everyone who has

Hillman Outlines Some Election Priorities
Well it is only 6 months left before we head to the polls for the
upcoming C.B.R.M. Municipal
election, and the only declared
candidate on the Northside Robert Hillman is outlining some of
the issues he feels is facing the
newly formed district which includes Sydney Mines, Florence,
Little Pond and Alder Point.
Hillman says that although we
have been well represented in the
Florence and County area by retiring councillor Wes Stubbert
there is much to be done. For instance in Florence we have one
of the most beautiful beaches in
Cape Breton and I would like to
see it utilized. I also feel that the
whole area needs a major cleanup project we have streets and
neighborhoods that are in deplorable conditions. One of my priorities if elected would be to sit
down with the Island Housing
Authority and see what there
policy is for keeping there rental
units up to standard inside and
out. Also in Sydney Mines I would
like to see the Brown Street
Ballfield cleaned up and put back
to use there are many involved
in the baseball association on the
Northside and they are trying to
promote physical fitness and
participaction which we all need.

The road conditions in Sydney
Mines is nothing short of a circus
ride, because when you drive
down some of the streets its better than any roller coaster ride that
Disney offers. In Alder Point they
are very fortunate that they have
a community group that is dedicated to the area and its well
being. In Bras D’or I would be
delighted to see an expansion to
the Bras D’or seniors club they
are a hardworking group and we
should try and do everything we
can to make the seniors enjoy
their golden years.

MADONNA – “MDNA” (Universal) - This is Madonna’s
twelfth studio album, following
up on her triumphant return to
the dance floor and the charts
with “Confessions on the
Dancefloor” (2005) and the
phenomenal “Hard Candy” in
2008. This album follows a
similar path to that of “Hard
Candy” with top-notch pop-oriented dance music and some
special guests in tow.
Let’s be clear about one
thing; she may
have her share of
detractors but Madonna is awesome and without
Madonna there
would be no Lady
Gaga, no Katy
Perry, no Nicki
Minaj or countless
other female pop artists who
have all looked to The Material Girl’s style, talent, career
and music for inspiration, and
when it comes to pop music
there is no one on earth who
is craftier or more media savvy
and chameleon-like than Madonna.
The first single released from
this album was “Give Me All
Your Luvin’”; that song gave
Madonna the honour of being
the artist with the most Top 10
singles on Billboard Magazine’s singles charts in the
history of that chart. Yeah,
that’s a big deal. As good as
that song was Madonna followed it up with an even better
release, “Girl Gone Wild”; produced by Italian DJ legend
Benny Benassi and his cousin
Alle Benassi, the song puts
Madonna smack dab in the
middle of the dance pop scene
again in a huge way. It holds
it’s own on the charts up
against songs by artists half
Madonna’s age.
That electronic dance vibe
dominates the album with
“Some Girls”, “I’m Addicted”
and “I’m A Sinner” proving that
Madonna is THE original dace
floor Diva. British pop star
Mika co-wrote the groove
heavy “Gang Bang”
and Nicki Minaj
makes her unique
vocal appearance on
“I Don’t Give A”. Of
course she is also on
the “Give Me All Your
Luvin” single.
As for the rest of
the album, “Madge’s”
die hard fans will love “Turn Up
the Radio” and “Love Spent”,
both are reminiscent of her
work from the “Ray of Light”
album in 1998 and “Superstar”
harkens back to Madonna’s
early hits. These songs are
really good.
The album closes off with 2
surprising numbers that move
in a totally different direction
from the rest of the album;
“Masterpiece” is a sweet number with a slower vibe that
shimmers like silk in the wind
and “Falling Free” sounds
amazingly like a classic-era
Kate Bush song. I was very
surprised and impressed. As I
mentioned above, her last 2
albums were super and Madonna has done it again, but
that should come as no surprise. She is Madonna after all.

7. Waiter’s duty, picnic
Caregiver amount: If you live with your children and you are pest

Foreign pension income: Pensions from foreign countries may 10. Cardiac burn
be subject to special tax treatment under the terms of a tax
treaty. Always check with a tax professional to find out if the
pension you receive from a foreign source is taxable in Canada.
Split your CPP and save: You may be able to split part of your
CPP retirement benefits with your spouse depending on how
long you lived together when you were contributing to the plan.
This is an advantage if one senior is in a higher tax bracket
than the other. However, to do so, you must apply to Human
Resources & Social Development Canada using Form ISP1002. It cannot be done at the time of tax preparation.
. Medical expenses can add up: If you purchase medical insurance for a trip or wintering in another country, it is considered a medical expense. Medical expenses are calculated
based on income so the lower income spouse should claim
them And if you have to travel to obtain medical treatment that
was not available where you live, you may be able to claim the
cost of transportation, meals and accommodation.

THIS
MYSTERY?

take things too literally!
Several adults are holding
children, waiting their turn.
The children are handed (one
at a time, usually) to a man,
who holds them while a
woman shoots them. If the
child is crying, the man tries to
stop the crying before the child
is shot.Why are these people
acting this way?
ANSWER - Because they are
parents at a mall waiting for a
picture with Santa.
