The President’s Message
Here I am at home for a few
weeks and ready to ‘hit the road’
again.
The FMCA Family Reunion in
Perry had 40 Roadtreks attending and almost all of us were
parked together with a few in
the handicapped area and others with other friends. All came to visit at our Happy
Hours so it was really fun to be with ‘old’ and new
friends there. We parked in an area in the center of the
activities and had a covered breezeway to stay out of
sun or rain for our afternoon get togethers.
Now I am heading for INTO in Tallahassee which is
the area of FMCA that our chapter belongs to and so it
is important for RTs to be present. Those of us attending will be scooping ice cream at the ‘ice cream’ social.
Then from there I head to several other rallies before
the FMCA Family Reunion in Springfield, MA
(August). We have been asked to be the ice cream social folks there as well (limited parking so register early and let me know if you are attending with/without
electric). They can only allow a total of 1500 rigs there
but RTs will be parking together and knowing in advance who is coming helps a lot! When you register, do
the volunteer question and write in ‘ice cream social’
and when you get there, be sure you tell the parking
folks you want to park with the Roadtreks (not the volunteers).
I expect it will be a wonderful summer and look forward to the Chapter Rally in Glen Rose, Texas (October
17) after many miles of fun getting there.
Travel safely and stay healthy.

RALLY REPORTS
REGIONAL NOTES (continued)
WILL MCLEAN MUSIC FESTIVAL
Dave Gottdiner
This year’s Festival was one of the best we have attended. The first
two days, Wednesday & Thursday before the Festival started, we
had social hour from 4 to 6 pm. Thursday, singer/songwriter Jerry
Mincey gave us a special concert. The Wiedl’s hosted a campfire several nights and we were treated with performances by Roadtrekers Harlean Liebno, and Blake & Ellen Travis.
The Will McLean Music Festival organizers were so pleasantly surprised and happy to greet over 30 Roadtrek enthusiasts from the
U.S. and Canada to join in the festivities at the yearly gathering at
the Sertoma Youth Ranch in Brooksville, Florida, March 11-13.
Three stages provided entertainment by Florida’s best songwriters,
singers, and musical groups every half hour throughout the Friday
through Sunday festival. New this year was a “Shooting Star Stage”
for the young performers program. They were a special treat. So
much to see and hear!
For those of you who live in Florida, or might be visiting Florida next
winter, consider checking out the website www.willmclean.com for
details on the 28th annual festival (2017). It is held the second
weekend in March every year.

Rally - Outer Banks, NC R&R hosted by Ed Hardison was the first
Region 1 rally for 2016. Thanks to Ed and those helping and attending. It was a great event for 32 Roadtreks and 54 Trekers.
Future Rally - Plans continue for a rally at Nocalula Falls in Gadsden, AL.
Volunteering - This was the first rally Ed has hosted and the first I
have actively helped make happen. It has been a great experience
for me, and I’m happy to assist anyone considering hosting a rally.
As a volunteer organization it is essential members actively participate. Please consider hosting a rally. If that is a daunting prospect,
don’t hesitate to offer help to anyone presenting a rally, even if it is a
rally you do not plan to attend. The lion’s share of my contribution
was done from home (and while Treking) using the Internet, and did
not require a significant amount of time. Give a shout to me or
Woodie & Beth for more information, help with a rally, or would like
to volunteer at any level.

Hoping you are all enjoying your travel planning and getting the
RTs ready for new adventures as Spring arrives. Please incorporate
rallies into your plans. RTI and FMCA have many offerings.
Region 4 will be hosting the 2017 Chapter Rally Sept 11-15, in the

need of some creative help with designing a rally pin and for games/
activities. If this interests you at all, please email or call Bob and Carol. We also will need additional help during the rally.
Region 4 is such a diverse area from the east Atlantic coast towards the west to Indiana. There are so many interesting places to
visit. Please consider hosting an R&R which takes less planning then
a rally. If you are interested in a place so will others be interested in
visiting that area. You will get the help you need from the VPs. Let
us know of places/activities to consider.

We were home - up north - on April 1st and awoke on the 2nd to
about an inch of new snow. Winter is trying to hold on, but the ice on
the lake is out just about as early as we can remember. Region 6 is
going full blast with rallies this season, so thanks to Gayle Crompton,
Grace and Ted Chura, and Janyce and Rick Hansen. Gayle’s I & M
Canal 9/12 to 16 is filling up so if you want in, get your money to her
fast. The Chura’s Reminiscing on the River (that’s Mississippi) 10/2
to 6 is listed elsewhere in this paper. The Hansen’s Escape to SPI
10/24 to 28 is also listed elsewhere. These rallies are planned by
folks just like you, but they want to showcase an area that they enjoy. Can you think of a place you’d like others to see and experience? Your VP’s are here to help with ideas, support, and strength if
you need it. Let’s start putting together our 2017 program. Hope to
see you all at one of these rallies or down the road, but in the meantime, keep it between the lines.
Upcoming Rally- Escape to South Padre Island Oct 24-28, 2016 We
want to continue the fun we are going to have at the Region 7, Glen
Rose, TX Chapter Rally at South Padre Island (SPI), TX. Since you
are already in Texas, we want you to mosey on down to SPI. We
are
looking
forward
to
two
great
rallies.

The FMCA Rally in Perry Ga with 40 Roadtreks was a big success.
Social hour very day and meeting great Roadtrekers was a bonus.
The Fall Chapter rally in 2016 will be in Glen Rose, TX at Oakdale
Park Oct. 17-21, 2016. We will be looking for help from the region
to make the rally a success.
Thanks to the many Roadtrek members that have volunteered to
organize rallies in our region; however, we still need more volunteers
to help with rallies. Please email Dave at [email protected] and
say that you want to be a rally master. We will work with you to make
sure you have lots of support.
Our region has had an opening for another Region VP for a few
years. If you would like to volunteer to be co-VP’s or know someone
in Region 7 who would make a good VP, please let us know. We,
also, need rally leaders. Without volunteers we cannot have
events. Please step up the plate and volunteer!
Please go to our web site to see the list of future rallies planned in
our Region. www.flroadtrek.org.
If you would like to plan a rally or R&R for 2016 contact your Region
VP’s. We will help you organize and host the rally or R&R.
Gary Scalise is doing an outstanding job as our Region Five Web
Master.
Email Phyllis Slaughter (region vice-president), [email protected] with ideas and suggestion of place, things to do
and possible dates.

Greetings from Region 9.
Spring has arrived early in the West and we are experiencing lovely
warm days with crystal clear blue skies. Taking advantage of that,
over 50 Roadtrekkers attended the “Six Days in Death Valley” rally
hosted by Kitte Phillips. Our stay at both the Sanders Family Winery
and Nevada Treasure RV Resort gave us access to the awesome
sights of Death Valley National Park and surrounding area.
New member, Mary Jane Curry is busy planning a May 2017 rally in
Monterey, California that will include a bus trip to the Monterey
Aquarium, Cannery Row, and Fisherman’s Wharf. Keep the first
week in May 2017 open for this really fun rally.
Northern California RTrs have developed a blog/email group that
informs members of casual gatherings. They meet at various
campgrounds and RV Parks in the Northern/Central California area
for fun, food and friendship. Contact Kitte Phillips for more information.
We are still looking for new Region 9 Vice-Presidents to the Four
Corners area that includes Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and
Utah. Please contact our president, Sherry Targum, if you are interested.
That’s it from Region 9—as we move forward into spring and summer we wish you happy trails and safe travels.
