About Messenia
Messenia is at the southwestern part of the
Peloponnese. It is bounded to the east by
Mount Taygetus and the famous Mani territory,
to the north by the river Neda and the Arcadian
Mountains, and to the west and south by the
Mediterranean Sea.
Beautiful towns, listed stone villages, historical
churches and monasteries, exceptional
archaeological sites, and endless beaches
awarded with numerous European blue Flags
are the elements that make Messenia an ideal
and popular destination all year long.
The flavours of the local cuisine and products
are also truly special. Actually, the olives and
the extra fine virgin olive oil of Kalamata are
considered among the best in the world.
The climate of Messenia is the typical
Mediterranean, with mild winters, warm
summers and a moderate seasonality. To
this end, boutique hotels and cozy guest
houses as well as luxurious resorts in natural
surroundings, and a brand new golf course
can be found in Messenia.
Kalamata, the capital of Messenia, is
considered one of the most gifted cities in
Greece. It offers modern amenities, shopping
centers, hospitals, university and administrative
services, combined with the old city and the
seafront boardwalk that are at the centre of a
vivid night life.
