Letters from the Chairs
Dave “Proz” Henkin
Convention Chairman
Unbelievable. Finally, we made it to San Japan’s sixth year. The region and city of San Antonio has
made San Japan a prime summer event. For one weekend a year we transform the River Walk from a
tourist spot to a showcase of the anime fandom.
Over the years, we’ve grown along with you. Last year, we moved to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center as our permanent home. This year, as we keep growing, we’ve added more space in the
convention center. We also worked with the Grand Hyatt to take over the entire hotel this year. We
hope the additional space will be enough to accommodate all of the San Japan attendees.
Our staff is dedicated too. Most of the San Japan staff has been with us since the beginning. They all
cherish what they do and love seeing San Japan thrive. The San Japan staff all work passionately with
one goal in mind: to create an acceptable outlet where you don’t have to be normal, where you can
dress as anyone, and just go all out and have fun (legally, please).
Anime and Japanese culture will always be our main focus for programming. We changed our mission
statement to say we are “Anime-Focused”. With this revised statement, we hope to become the outlet
in San Antonio where all fandoms accepting of anime culture can come together, year after year, and
enjoy our grand event.
Jason “Jay” Perez
Events Chairman
On behalf of the San Japan Events Team, our panelists, and guests, I would like to welcome all of you
to this year’s San Japan. It has been a long road leading up to this year’s San Japan and an even longer
road for my own experience as con staff. I remember all those years ago volunteering Registration at
Zero Day Anime. While making this year’s schedule, I looked back at year 2.X of San Japan when I
first took over events. Oh, how we have grown leaps and bounds since then! I could never imagine
back then how far we would come from barely being able to fill up four panel rooms to now having
nine, plus many other event rooms with a Maid Café, crafts room, and so much more!
Although this has become a nearly full time job for me (because I need ANOTHER one of those!), I
love staffing Events and will forever pass along the praise and thanks we receive to my wonderful staff
and guests. It has been a real honor to see my staff like Joey, Sethos, and Jay Justice grow and improve
every year. As well, I love seeing how much our repeat panelists like Lanie, ninjaHELL,and Die grow
as public speakers and gradually gain followings.
This year I urge all of you attendees to branch out from your usual con routine and check out some of
the different panels and off-the-wall stuff we offer in Events, whether it is about about BJD dolls, a
new anime, Star Wars, or laser chess.
Cheers and best wishes!
Lauren “SheWolf” Heacker
Logistics Chairperson
Welcome, returning and new attendees, to San Japan Sinister 6! We keep running San Japan for you all
in hopes that you’d keep coming back for more. Not only do you keep coming back, but you all come
with increasing numbers! I’m pleased to contribute to this now large-scale anime convention year after
year.
Watching San Japan grow and seeing everyone happy are what makes all the work worthwhile. So
please, enjoy yourself and make sure to tell all of your friends. We promise to bring San Japan back as
long as you want to party with us. After all, there’s more reasons to party than not!!

Rivercenter Mall
San Japan is close to the Rivercenter
Mall, which has a great food court on
the bottom floor and plenty of shops
that you can partake in. However, after
discussions with the mall, we have
been asked to post the following rules
ahead of time so San Japan attendees
can be prepared when they decide to
walk into the mall:
1. Cosplay props are not allowed.
2. Masks are not allowed.
3. Face paint is not allowed.
It is your responsibility to not break
these simple rules or you will be kicked
out of the mall!
San Japan will not hold onto or store
any cosplay items either. Find a friend
to hold your item or store it in your
hotel room before entering the mall.
The Rivercenter Mall also has some
other general rules that apply to all
patrons and these rules can be found on
their website (http://www.shoprivercenter.com/about/security) and are subject
to change without notice.

will NO LONGER have front of the
line access for autographs. A special
VIP autograph session will be held on
Sunday of the convention.

session will receive tickets just prior to
start of the session.
2. Anyone past the one hundred (100)

or not they receive an autograph depends on how quickly the line moves
during the allotted time. Individuals
without tickets may not attend scheduled overflow sessions.
5. To keep the line moving, we request
that attendees bring absolutely no more
than two items to be signed. Items
should also be prepared for signing.

Maid Cafe
What is a Maid Cafe? Here is the Wikipedia definition:
Maid cafés are a subcategory of cosplay restaurants found predominantly in Japan. In these cafés, waitresses dressed in maid
costumes act as servants, and treat customers as masters (and
mistresses) in a private home, rather than as café patrons.
Throughout this hour-long experience, our maids will be serving
an assortment of cookies to snack on and hot teas as refreshments while engaging honored guests in lively conversation and
games. Additionally, the maids of San Japan’s Maid Cafe will be
putting on a number of performances to ensure that at no time
during your visit with us will you be bored.
San Japan Maid Cafe is here to offer the experience of popular
maid cafes in Japan. We strive to provide a calm and entertaining environment away from the hustle and bustle of the main
convention floor.
Entry fee is only $5 (the most affordable maid cafe offered by a
Texas convention). So buy your tickets in advanced at the ticket
table at the Maid Cafe because they are expected to sell out
quick!

Scott Freeman
Voice Actor
Scott has been working at Funimation roughly five years as a voice actor on over 50 shows. While
mostly in the background, you may recognize him in many roles such as “Soldier J”, “Man B”, or
“Thug A”. He then began portraying more descriptive roles including “Yellow Merchant”, or “Green
Shirt Brown Hat Man”. This soon led to playing characters with actual names. Only in the last year
or so he has begun playing larger parts, and his success in voice acting has grown. A few of the titles
he can be heard in are Hetalia (as Britain), Baka and Test (as Yuuji Sakamoto), One Piece (as Yasopp
and Kamakiri), Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood; the movie Conqueror of Shamballa, Big Windup,
Desert Punk, Initial D, KenIchi, Linebarrels, Romeo X Juliet, Soul Eater, and The Tower of Druaga.
Scott was always an artist first, a nerd second, and a musician third. He saw his first anime early in
High School on a VHS tape recorded from the home of a Japanese classmate and was an instant fan.
Although there were no subtitles, it was still amazing. Needless to say, having the opportunity to work
with Funimation today is a dream come true. Scott is always excited to work on new shows with such
amazing actors, and appreciates fans like himself who have helped to raise awareness of this culture
and allow it to be taken so far along.

Richie Branson
Music
Sometimes the best way to get the job done is to do it yourself. Those words inspired music producer
Richie Branson (born Marcus Brown) to come into his own as one of the hottest up and coming artists
out of the Lone Star State.
Richie is an extremely versatile artist/producer who has already made some noise in the music industry.
In 2009 he formed a music production company with his cousin, music producer Jeremy “J.Forbes”
Brown. Within months, Red Prodigy’s signature sound was already being co-signed by top executives in the music industry. Def Jam’s President, L.A. Reid, personally offered a record deal to one of
Red Prodigy’s artists, Demarcus “Bone” Hamilton, after hearing two of Bone’s songs, both of which
were produced by Richie and J. Forbes. Red Prodigy produced Bone’s smash debut single “Homegurl” which stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 Hip-Hop/R&B charts for 19 weeks and reached a radio
audience of over 9 million people. Eventually, Red Prodigy would go on to do production work with
industry artists from around the nation including Chalie Boy, Slim Thug, The Dream, Bun B, and Rick
Ross.
In Richie’s hometown, he would become well known as one of the best producers in town. The San
Antonio Express-News did a feature article about his endeavors as a producer and he was nominated
for the “best producer” award in the 2010 San Antonio Music Awards. Despite living in Texas, where
the local music is known for its heavy bass and slow tempo influenced by the late DJ Screw, Richie
has always had a passion for making fast upbeat crossover music that appeals to a global audience. He
had a large catalog fast up-tempo beats, but could not find many artists who wanted to do those types
of records. Richie would eventually take matters into his own hands and himself become the crossover
hip-hop artist he was looking for. Artists around Texas began to take notice of Richie’s skill as an artist
and began requesting feature appearances from him on their projects.
By going against the grain, Richie Branson marches to the beat of a different drum than most artists.
Because of his ability to produce, mix, write, and perform his own music, he is completely self sufficient as an artist. He is able to adapt and create in any type of style, whether it appeals to the signature
hip hop sound of his fellow Texas natives or whether it carries a more worldwide appeal. The highly
animated swagger and catchy word play he delivers on every song put him at the forefront of a movement that will have people around the world moving to the beat.
Eyeshine
Music
Formed in 2004 by front man Johnny Yong Bosch and Maurice Salmin, Eyeshine first found success
in 2006 with a unique blend of pop punk and post grunge called Edge Rock. The band gained a modest
audience with its debut EP, “How About That” and their first full length album, “Red Stripes White
Lights” but it was their sophomore effort, “My Paper Kingdom” that officially opened the flood gates
in 2009. MPK featured their award winning song, “ALONE,” whose honest and simple lyrics made
a connection to a steadily growing fan base. The band has continued to self produced 6 more albums:
“Tone Of Echoes” (features the Elfenworks Foundation sponsored song “Hope Is So Far Away”),
“Afterglow” (acoustic album), “Sonosis” (instrumental album), “Sansvox” (karaoke album), “XMAS”
(Christmas album), and their latest album “Revolution Airwaves.”
Eyeshine won the worldwide Ford sponsored competition “Gimme The Gig II” in May 2012. They
recorded a single and filmed a music video with the Legendary Don Was (President of Blue Note Records and 7 time Grammy Award winning Producer – Rolling Stones, Elton John, John Mayer, etc) and
Krish Sharma (Producer/Engineer – The Rolling Stones, Counting Crows, Hilary Duff, Jesse McCartney, etc) out of the “Ford Focus Studio.” Which is a Mobile Studio that was built into a Ford Focus by
“Mad” Mike Martin (Pimp My Ride). KTLA (West Coast News Stations affiliated with The CW TV
Network), filmed and aired the one-hour special on west coast television (KTLA, KTVU, and KICU).
Band members include: Johnny Yong Bosch (guitar and lead vocals), Maurice Salmin (drums, piano,
vocals), and Polo Yazaki (lead guitar), Ginny Eck (bass guitar, violin, vocals)

Kieran Strange
Music
Kieran Strange is a dynamic young artist blending pop sensibilities, edgy guitars and synthesized
electronic sounds into her own personal brand of British nerd-rock. She left her small fishing village
in southern England alone at the tender age of seventeen to chase her dreams of making music, singing
about girl crushes, zombies and video games.
As she stands firmly as a voice for the different and discarded, Kieran’s die-hard fans (coined the
Strangers) have already made their mark by voting Miss Strange a final ballot nominee in the Twitter
Shorty Awards three years running. Nerds, geeks, gamers, costuming addicts, fantasy fans and many
more have counted themselves a member of the Strangers’ ranks, and their numbers span right across
the globe.
Hot on the heels of her debut EP Adamantine Heart, Kieran is working on a brand new album set to
be released in Fall 2013. A lover of art in a variety of media, Kieran has announced that her new EP
will be accompanied with a retro-style online game telling the story and emotion of each of the songs
through corresponding superhero characters, and is “the most ME thing I have done with my music to
date”.

Katie Tiedrich (Awkard Zombie)
Artist
Katharine Chandler Tiedrich XIV was born to wealthy Russian aristocrats in 1823, where she was
trained in swordsmanship, honor, and how to play the accordion. Not long after, however, her family’s
prized diamond mine collapsed and plunged into bankruptcy. Stricken by poverty and in fear of being
sold to the circus, Katie ran away from home at age nine and joined a ragtag crew of bloodthirsty pirates.During the next twenty years, Katie circumnavigated the Earth and discovered Atlantis, which she
sunk out of contempt. She also discovered Australia, but left almost immediately because the whole
continent sucked and boomerangs are no good for plunder. While on her travels, she founded the city
of Rome and carved Switzerland out of a meteorite, depositing it between Italy and France, just to keep
an eye on them.
Reunited with her crew, Katie continued her original quest of piracy. After stealing everything of worth
in Europe and western Africa, she hung up her silly pirate hat for a brief hiatus and trained under a
waterfall or in a Denny’s parking lot (this part is kind of fuzzy), then joined a clan of Arabian stragglers
in the harsh deserts of Scotland. Here she slayed countless dragons who happened to be terrorizing the
land.
Satisfied with her work, Katie returned to her home in the center of the Earth, where she has lived to
this day. She now draws crappy comics by day and fights the Justice League by night.

Amelie “Ami-Chan” Belcher was born in Baton-Bloody-Boring-Rouge Louisiana where the combination of chemical plant fumes and river water did major damage to her fragile little mind at an early age.
By all accounts, she started drawing at the age of five (when she figured out that the pencil goes on the
paper and not up your nose) and didn’t stop drawing until she ran out of paper…twenty years later. She
is the artist behind the manga “Loud Snow” and the web comics “the real life adventures of Ami-chan”
and more recently ”Bounty Haunters”. She now travels the country selling her award winning art,
doing one of a kind commissions for con goers, giving the best panels on earth, and being paid tribute
to by her army of fans known as the “Ami Army”.
Sleeping Samurai was established in 2007 and since then we have brought our expertise in the field of
Interactive Entertainment to dozens of shows across the U.S. No distance is too far to travel in order to
bring you our unique style of foam fighting. Not only do we offer you the chance to participate in the
foam battles themselves but we also hold instructional panels, historical panels, choreographed fight
routine panels, training sessions and much more. Foam weapon tournaments, exhibition matches and
LARPing games are just a few types of battles that we organize and supervise at conventions. Tournament winners receive their pick of one free item from our inventory.

Cosplay is the art of re-creating a character from a work of fiction. Fandom conventions of all kinds have a long tradition of

Touhou Project:
An Open Discussion
In 1998, ZUN released on the PC-98
the very first Touhou Project game
“Highly Responsive to Prayers”.
Since then, the one man development
“team” has produced a ton of games,
guide books, music, and other media
for this inexplicably popular shoot’em
up computer game. Even more fascinating is the sheer amount of fandom
support this indie game has had in
Japan and abroad. Without a doubt the
most prolific independently developed and produced video game of all
time, Touhou Project is a truly bizarre
sensation. This panel will allow fans
of the series in Central TX to gather
and discuss all kinds of topics related
to the series. Favorite games, favorite
characters, favorite music, and other
such things will come up. Or just stop
by to see what all the darn fuss is
about.

right you! And him. And her. Him too.
We’ll read god awful Q&A and maybe
even read a script with silly voices!
Or do none of those things! Honestly
I don’t know what to expect except
hilarity. I’m writing this description
super early so I have absolutely no
idea who will be on the panel!!!! Why
not show up and find out? :3

makeup, too. Hosted by Hanyaan and

SO MANY CHOICES, who should I
cosplay? HELP! In this panel we will
go over tips and tricks for coming up
with and narrowing down costume
choices so that you can pick your next
costume.
So there’s a character you REALLY
want to cosplay. Whether you want
to gain/lose weight, get Goku-ripped,
or just get lean and mean for an
awesome character... We can get you
started! This panel will be split 50-50
between: 1) Discussion/presentation:
- Defining personal goals like: look
a certain way, become strong enough
for a pose or move, lose/gain weight,
etc. - Finding the right, safe, healthy
workout for the individual current
fitness level: strength training, cardio,
flexibility, etc. - How to build a
specific nutrition plan or lifestyle diet
that fits personal willpower, budget,
cooking ability, and cosplay/life goals.
2) Hands-on step-by-step exercises to
get most people started: how to squat
properly, do other basic exercises for
upper body and core, protect joints
against injury, stretch, and build
progressions.
