Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
YÜÉÅ à{x Wxá~ Éy à{x ctáàÉÜ
Happy Easter to you all! We have spent the past 6 weeks preparing, not only for this day, but for the
truth behind this celebration: that Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah Son of God, has been raised to a new and eternal
life, and brings with Him all those who wish to follow His Way! Easter is not the celebration of a singular, glorious event. It is the celebration of the truth that we, too, can rise to new and eternal life if we allow the Glory of Easter to
guide us in everything that we say and do! Far too often people believe they are going to Heaven, just by being “nice people”. Well, we all realize that many “nice people” lead very sinful lives. Easter challenges us to lead lives of grace … lives
of holiness … lives of forgiveness, hope and love, so that, when our time comes to stand before God at our judgement, He
will happily bring us into His Glory; a true reward for leading the life of a disciple. Easter cannot begin and end with this
day. Easter is a complete way of life! Let the powerful words of the “Exultet”, the Easter Proclamation, ring out every day
of our lives: “Exult, let them exult, the hosts of heaven, exult, the Angel ministers of God exult, let the trumpet of salvation
sound our mighty King’s triumph! Be glad, let earth be glad, as glory floods her, ablaze with light from her eternal King,
let all corners of the earth be glad, knowing an end to gloom and darkness. Rejoice, let Mother Church also rejoice, arrayed with the lightning of his glory, let this holy building shake with joy, filled with the mighty voices of the peoples.”
Thank you, so much, to everyone who made these sacred days so powerful. This is my 28st Easter as a priest, and I
still have to make sure I know what I am doing! Fr. Jason, Deacon Dick Brogdon, and Pastoral Minister, Matt Costa did so
much to plan and organize, that I didn’t have to do very much! Everyone in the Music Ministry has been working and preparing hard for the past several weeks, and it truly showed! I can’t thank them enough for enhancing our worship these
past few days. I never get tired of listening to them. It was so good to have our seminarian, Rob NiCastro, helping us out in
organizing the liturgies. He is coming near the end of his second year in Major Seminary at St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, bringing his ordination in 2018 just a bit closer! I presume that this will be his last Easter with us in his home parish,
for he will be assigned his Continuum (internship) parish this summer, which will extend to his ordination. Thanks, everyone, for another great St. Jude Resurrection celebration!
We wish all the blessings of the Risen Christ on our Catechumens and Candidates, who entered into the fullness of
the Catholic faith at the Easter Vigil! Dawn, Jocelyn, & Lauren Teresi … George Bretz …Allison Coe … Angela Hosford
… Garret, Kyla & Juna Erman … Morgan & Caden Pustelak … Charlie Lenox … and Morgan Euliano. Thank you so
much to Jesse Spanogle and his team for helping all of our friends receive the joy of the Sacraments. If you know, or see,
any of them, tell them “Welcome to St. Jude’s!” Oh … and, I almost forgot: Charlie Lenox, a Senior at Ft. LeBeouf High
School, just won the Pennsylvania State Wrestling Championship at 120 pounds!
Congratulations to St. Jude’s own Lisa Louis for being named by Bishop Persico as the new Director of Diocesan
Developmental Services! Lisa has also been named as the Executive Director of the Catholic Foundation. She is the perfect
choice for such a great responsibility. It is also a cabinet-level position, for she will be responsible for leading and managing the overall fund development activities of the entire Diocese. Lisa had spent many years as the Director of the Regional
Cancer Foundation, and she really put her heart and soul into that position. She, her husband Mark and their great kids,
generally sit in the very first pew at Mass!! Congratulations, Lisa!
Also, Congratulations are certainly in order for our own Lexi Pierce, who serves regularly at the 9:00 Mass. (She
is part of the DiLoreto “gang” that congregates in the northeast section of the church every week at that Mass! Since all the
kids have gotten older, they are more quiet now!). Lexi, a 7th Grader at Westlake Middle School, recently qualified to compete in the state level competition of the National Graphic Bee on April 1st in Harrisburg! If she wins that, Lexi will compete in the national competition in May at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C. Good luck,
Lexi!! We’re with you!
I am writing this several days before Palm Sunday because of publishing deadlines before Easter. So, I have no
idea how Villa Maria Academy did in the Pennsylvania State Basketball Semi-Finals, or if they made it to the State Championship. But we are certainly praying for St. Jude’s own Anna Sweny, Amanda Heidt & Meghan Howe, as well as the
entire Villa Victor team! I gave a gut feeling that, as you read this, they will be celebrating another State Championship! If
not, then ladies be assured of our great admiration for you after another phenomenal year! Either way, St. Jude’s is very
proud!
I also as of this writing, do not know how well our St. Jude’s high school swimmers did at the State competition at
Bucknell University a week and a half ago. But even so, we are very, very proud of them, too. We are truly blessed in this
parish!
I reread my article about the Catholic Services Appeal a few weeks back, and I realized that it was very harsh
against those that can’t contribute. It didn’t seem so when I wrote it, but it sure sounded like it when I reread it. I do so
apologize for that. I guess I am just trying to get everyone to be part of the great gift of giving … no matter what the gift is.
Please accept my apologies if I offended anyone.
Have a very Holy Easter Season!

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
Time, Talent and Treasures~ Jennie Hagerty
Easter blessings! We all survived our Lenten sacrifices. I decided to help others and make a difference. My “go to” is always Hot Chocolate or Romolo’s. It is best for my co-workers and family for
me not to remove this from my daily routine.
What did you accomplish this Lent? Did you spend more time with family and helping others? Were
you faithful to God by going to additional masses during the week? Did you help out at the Overflow Shelter or reach
out to an old friend or family member? It makes me sad to know how some children do not make time for their parents.
There are friends that share with me that they have not communicated or seen their son or daughter for months. Now is
the time to change that and be more attentive.
How did you share your blessings with others? The Rice Bowl is always something nice to do as a family or within the
work place.
Easter is a time to remember the many gifts God has given to us. The most important gift of all is Jesus. I had the
opportunity to watch the OLCS 1st grade last Friday evening share in the Stations of the
Cross. It by far, was magnificent. The children took their roles very seriously. You could
tell by their facial expressions. Just take a look at the photos on the OLCS School page.
The innocence and excitement filled their sweet faces from beginning to end. It made me
realize the suffering that must have occurred to Jesus as he was crucified for our sins.
This Easter extend the Olive branch and begin “anew.” Jesus died for our sins to allow for
us a new beginning. All we need to do is reach out and change how we treat others. A new
beginning is a wonderful start this Easter season. Give the gift that keeps on giving through
time, talent and treasure. Remember a minute is only 60 seconds and then gone forever.
May Easter bring a new perspective into your life.
