Holy Family Catholic Church
is one of Tucson’s historic landmarks. Built in the Mission style in
1913 in the Hispanic Dunbar Springs neighborhood and close to the University of Arizona, it was consecrated
on Jan. 14, 1915 by Msgr. Henry R. Granjon, third Bishop of Tucson (1900-1922).
Holy Family Parish is Tucson’s oldest Catholic parish. Its first pastor Fr. Lucas of St. Joseph O.C.D. and his
associate Fr. Eduardo of the Child Jesus O.C.D. were beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on October 28 in 2007,
the Feast of Christ the King.
Today Holy Family Catholic Church is the home of both Holy Family Parish and St. Gianna Oratory with
the Traditional Latin Liturgy. Both communities are under the care of the Institute of Christ the King
Sovereign Priest. Blessed Lucas and Blessed Eduardo, pray for us!

Letter from the Rector
Dear Faithful and Friends of Holy Family Parish and of St. Gianna Oratory,
I want to extend my gratitude to all of our volunteers from the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Knights
of Columbus, our Charismatic movements, and to Timon de Fe for helping, together with our volunteers
from Holy Family Parish and St. Gianna Oratory, to prepare and run our annual San Martin de Porres Fiesta
this past weekend. Despite the cold weather with some rain showers, and despite many other competing
events, we were able to host and serve a good number of faithful with delicious food and musical entertainment. A special thanks goes to our CCD children who attended Holy Mass and dressed up for our
Parade of the Saints!
On Monday and Tuesday I was working with some faithful to clean and empty our staff offices and to make
them ready for new, used furniture which I was able to acquire from a local estate sales company at a very
advantageous price. Our office staff and myself are deeply grateful to the person who gave me a special
donation to make this purchase possible. While the old office furniture will be used in the conference room
as well as in our trailer and in the church basement, the “new” office furniture will contribute to make our
work more effective, as we will finally have drawers in our desks, which we did not have in the old desks.
I have been invited to visit the apostolate of the Institute of Christ the King at St. Stanislaus Oratory in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin to celebrate Thanksgiving with my confreres. As the Institute is a spiritual family,
our priests and oblates come together for special occasions several times a year. On Thanksgiving Day,
Thursday, November 24, Father Reinders will celebrate a Latin Low Mass at 8:00 a.m. and Holy Family
Parish will have Holy Mass at 10:00 a.m. in English. In our International Seminary in Italy Thanksgiving
Day has become an important part of the feasts celebrated during the year. The American seminarians will
have the honor to prepare the turkey (or the turkeys!) and the dressing for their fellow seminarians!
The Institute of Christ the King offers you the opportunity to enroll yourself, your beloved ones, and
your friends in a special Christmas Novena of Masses. This Mass Novena will be celebrated at our
Shrine of Christ the King in Chicago from December 24, 2011 to January 1, 2012. You will have a
choice between two novena cards with a beautiful Christmas motif, which you can send as a gift to your
relatives and friends. These cards will be available starting November 20 after the Latin Sunday
Masses in front of the church and during the week at the Parish office. If you cannot pick them up at
these times, please email us to arrange pick up or mailing of the cards: [email protected].
The suggested donation for an enrollment in this Novena of Christmas Masses is $5.00 (and you receive one novena Christmas card as a gift). For five enrollments we would ask for a donation of $15.00
and offer you as a gift 5 cards. For ten enrollments we would ask for $25 and offer ten cards as a gift.
Special envelopes will be available- together with the Christmas Novena Mass cards - in front of the
church and at the Parish office on which you can write or insert a list of your intentions and add your
donation to the envelope.
You can write several intentions for one envelope. You can also enroll your entire family with one
envelope. Your prayer intentions can also include the departed souls of your loved ones or any intention
that you may have. For each person, however, whom you enroll with a separate envelope and donation
you will receive a separate novena card that you can then give to this person. Would this not be a
thoughtful and kind Christmas gift?
We will collect your intentions and forward them for you to the Shrine of Christ the King in Chicago.
Enrolling someone in a Novena of Masses is a spiritual work of mercy and most fitting for the Holy Season
of Christmas in which God the Father gifted us with the birth of His beloved Son Jesus Christ.
Wishing you a blessed Sunday, I am sincerely yours in Christ the King,
Canon Richard von Menshengen
August Queen of the Heavens,
And Sovereign Mistress of the Angels,
Thou who from the beginning
Hast received from God
The power and the mission
To crush the head of Satan,
We humbly beseech Thee,
To send Thy Holy Legions, so that under
Thy Command and through Thy power,
They may pursue the demons,
And combat them everywhere,
Suppress their boldness,
And drive them back into the abyss.
Who is like God?
O good and tender Mother,
Thou wilt always be our love and hope!
O Mother of God, send Thy Holy Angels
To defend us, and to drive far away from
Us The cruel enemy.
Holy Angels and Archangels,
Defend us, guard us. Amen.
This prayer was dictated by the Blessed Virgin Mary
on Jan. 13, 1864 to Venerable Father Louis-Edouard
Cestac (1801-1868), Founder of the Congregation of
the Servants of Mary. The prayer was then submitted
to the Diocesan Bishop of Bayonne, France, Msgr.
François II Lacroix, who approved of it. On July 8,
1908 Pope St. Pius X granted a partial indulgence to
its recitation.

Augusta Reina de los Cielos,
Y Señora de los Angeles, a Ti que has
Recibido de Dios el poder y la mision
De aplastar la cabeza de Satanas,
Pedimos humildemente
Que envies legiones celestiales para
Que, bajo Tus ordenes, persigan a los
Demonios, los combatan por todas
Partes, repriman su audacia y los
Precipiten en los abismos.
Quien como Dios?
!Oh buena y tierna Madre, siempre
Seras nuestro amor y nuestra Esperanza!
!Oh Madre de Dios, envia a los Santos
Angeles para defenderme, y aleja de mi
Al cruel enemigo!
Santos Angeles y Arcangeles
Defended nos y guardad nos. Amen.
Reminder: We ask you to please leave the English and Spanish Latin
Mass Liturgy books in church and do not take them home with you.
They are for the use of all parishioners and visitors to Mass. During
the past several months, the quantity of these books in church has
diminished and we would like to have a sufficient number of them
available for all the faithful to use during Mass. Thank you for your
consideration.

St. Gianna Beretta
Molla,
pray for us!
Twenty–Second Sunday after Pentecost
Let us remember today that we must render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, which means observing the
law of justice, and render to God the things that are God’s, which means that the soul made in the image of
its Creator must render to Him the tribute of adoration and obedience.
INTROIT: Ps. 129: 3,4,1 If Thou, O Lord, shalt observe iniquities, Lord, who shall endure it? for with Thee there
is merciful forgiveness, O God of Israel. (Psalm) Out of the depths have I cried to Thee, O Lord: Lord, hear my
voice. Glory be to the Father. If Thou…
COLLECT: O God, our refuge and strength, Author of all devotedness, give ear to the devoted prayers of Thy
Church, and grant that we may obtain in deed what we ask with faith. Through our Lord.
EPISTLE: Phil. 1: 6-11
Lesson from the Epistle of Blessed Paul the Apostle to the Phillipians
Let us be sincere and without offense unto the day of Christ: “filled with the fruit of justice through Jesus Christ”.
Brethren, we are confident in the Lord Jesus that He, who hath begun a good work in you, will perfect it unto
the day of Christ Jesus. As it is meet for me to think this for you all, for that I have you in my heart, and that,
in my bands and in the defense and confirmation of the Gospel, you are all partakers of my joy. For God is my
witness, how I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ. And this I pray, that your charity may more and
more abound in knowledge and in all understanding; that you may approve the better things; that you may
be sincere and without offense unto the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of justice, through Jesus Christ unto
the glory and praise of God. Deo Gratias.
GOSPEL: Mt. 22: 15-21
† Continuation of the holy Gospel according to St. Matthew
Jesus confounds the Pharisee, His enemies, who more than ever are compassing His ruin. His reply is full of divine
wisdom.
At that time, the Pharisees went and consulted among themselves, how to ensnare Jesus in His speech. And
they sent to Him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying: Master, we know that Thou art a true speaker,
and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest Thou for any man, for Thou dost not regard the person of
men. Tell us therefore, what dost Thou think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? But Jesus knowing
their wickedness, said: Why do you tempt Me, ye hypocrites? Show Me the coin of the tribute. And they
offered Him a penny. And Jesus saith to them: Whose image and superscription is this? They say to Him:
Caesar’s. Then He saith to them: Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things
that are God’s. Laus tibi Christe.
OFFERTORY: Esther 14: 12,13 Remember me, O Lord, Thou Who rulest above all power; and give a well-ordered
speech in my mouth, that my words may be pleasing in the sight of the prince.
SECRET: Grant, O merciful God, that this saving rite may unremittingly free us from all personal guilt and fend off all
misfortune. Through Our Lord.
COMMUNION: Ps. 16: 6 I have cried, for Thou, O God, hast heard me: O incline Thine ear unto me, and hear my words.
POSTCOMMUNION: We have received, O Lord, the gifts of this sacred mystery, and humbly beseech Thee: that what
we do at Thy bidding in memory of Thee, may avail us in our weakness. Who livest and reignest.

XXXIII Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario A
Lecturas:
Proverbios: 31: 10-13, 19-20, 30-31
Salmo: 128: 1-2, 3, 4-5
1 Tesalonicenses 5: 1-6
