“I started shopping for
the dress about two
months before the
wedding, it was the last
thing I organised and
I couldn’t find anything
I liked. Then I chatted
to the designer Jane Hill
and she understood
exactly what I wanted.
I love white and I wanted
it to be feminine, tasteful
and elegant.”
Suzie
t h e p r o p o s a l Suzie first met Nick at a
mutual friend’s BBQ on the Queen’s birthday
holiday last year. “My first impression of Nick
was that he had kind eyes. That’s the first
thing I look for in someone – a sign of kindness
– and that’s exactly what drew me to Nick”
Suzie explained. Nick recreated the couple’s
first date at W e r r i b ee O pen Range Z oo
for his proposal, arranging a private tour for
the two of them. He then took Suzie to a
special place that he had chosen earlier in
the week. “While I was looking at the animals,
he got down on one knee, presented me with
a ring and said ‘I couldn’t think of anything
better than to be able to call you my wife.
You’re the most wonderful woman I have
met – will you marry me?’ Suzie recalled.
Although completely taken by surprise,
Suzie didn’t hesitate to say yes. >>

the photographer says…
“Suzie and Nick are such a beautiful
couple, it is hard to imagine we
would have achieved anything but
beautiful photographs. The
attention to detail put into the
styling ensured every shot had a
consistent colour palette and a
point of interest. The brilliant, bright
colours looked just fantastic and
photographed so well.”

t h e c e r e m o n y Suzie and Nick were
married in a pristine white marquee on the
banks of the O r na m ental L a k e in the
Mel b ou r ne Botani c al G a r dens , sharing
the occasion with their 170 guests. Both Suzie
and Nick lit a candle during the ceremony in
memory of Suzie’s mother, Ann, who passed
away suddenly in 2005 and Nick’s father, John,
who had also passed away. “The ceremony was
warm and personal, it was the most important
part of the day for both of us. It felt beautiful,
full of love and support, we wrote our own
vows and had enormous input into the
ceremony” Suzie explained. >>

A REAL WEDDING
the stylist says…
“The brief – a warm and inviting,
‘feels like home ’ setting. After
the ceremony, the space converted
to a luxurious French-style lounge.
A vintage chandelier hung over seating
areas set amongst an abundance of
gorgeous florals, candles and framed
family photographs. Soft neutral
pieces were enhanced by the bride’s
choice of vivid coloured florals.”

t h e r e c e p t i o n The couple organised
a fairy tale reception with the help of their
wedding planner. “Nick and I were both very
relaxed about it and our wedding planner,
M a r i s a from A L av i s h A f fa i r took
a load off enormously. I wanted the day
to be beautiful, a celebration of our
commitment to one another and a celebration
of what is ahead. I was more focused on our
relationship and sharing that with our family
and friends than everything being perfect”
Suzie explained. Following the speeches guests
danced to a seven piece band as cognac,
cheese and chocolates were passed around
for all to enjoy.
l e f t Suzie celebrates with friends,
Peter Everett
and
Jo Woods.
