Teen Access to Health Care:
63% of Latina’s and their families
have a type of medical insurance
However top three concerns are:
- People abusing the system
- Won’t be able to afford
- Will cause the United
States to go into debt
The Food Desert
 42% Latina girls answered that the nearest market
with fresh fruits and vegetables is 5 blocks or further
away from home.
 Supermarkets with fresh healthy choices are not
common in low-income areas which leave convenience
stores as the first option for groceries. Fresno has the
highest concentration of convenience stores in the
state.
 48% of Latinas said they only have 1-2 serving of fruits
and vegetables per day, not close enough to what is
recommended.
Body and Nutrition Affect You
 Of the Latinas surveyed, 42% said they feel that they
have a healthy weight while the other 58% are unsure
about how they feel about it.
 41% answered that they exercise at home. Another 32%
stated that they play a sport.
 Being active and eating healthy are very strongly
connected, but if the body is not getting the nutrition it
needs because access to healthier choices is difficult for
a Latina, then something in the system is not right.
