School Donations: Building A Better Foundation
The school has established two tax deductible funds to enable parents, relatives and friends the opportunity to make donations.
The Building Fund has provided financial support to complete our school hall renovations, install reverse cycle air-conditioning units in every
classroom and construct classroom computer centres. During the next three years, the Building Fund will be used to improve playground facilities.
The Library Fund has provided reading materials for guided reading, home reading and the Reading Eggs technology program.
This fund will continue to expand reading resources and technology for literacy learning.
You can visit our website to download and complete a donor card. Your support is sincerely appreciated.

Brainstorm School Performance “The Protectors”
The Protectors is educational theatre that addresses antibullying and provides support for vulnerable children. The show reinforces
resilience and provides resources to help reduce the incidence of bullying. It encourages resilience, assertiveness and empathy. The
Protectors offers creative solutions and tips that children can use to protect themselves from hurtful comments and negative behaviours.
The cost of the show is $5 per student. This cost is included in the school contribution paid at the beginning of the year. Parents who have
not paid the school contribution are required to make this payment at the school office as soon as possible. Kindergarten – Year 2 @

Be Proud, Wear Your Uniform to School Initiative
Thanks to all parents who supported our initiative ‘Be proud wear your uniform to school’ which has helped increase the number of
students wearing full school uniforms to school everyday.
Lismore Festival of Music Eisteddfod
Congratulations to the bands for their outstanding performance at the Lismore Musical Festival Society Eisteddfod last week. The
adjudicator’s comments praised the quality of the performance. We would like to thank Ben Van Kleef and the parent roadies who
supported the students’ performance.
Golf Club Raffle 28 August
The P&C fundraising team will be at the Byron Golf Club on Friday 28 August. This is a great child friendly event that provides funds for

AFL Knockout
Last Wednesday the school’s AFL team travelled to Bateau Bay Public School to play the quarter
final of the PSSA AFL State Knockout. After a few hiccups, like our flight being cancelled, we soon
arrived at the ground. After a quick change and warm up, it was game on.
The first quarter was dominated by our forwards with us leading our opponents at the end of the
quarter. The second and third quarters were evident by the scoreboard with Byron ahead by only
15 points. In a great last quarter our boys put the game beyond doubt even with a couple of
injuries. The final score was 7:10=52 to 1:2=8. It was a great display of team football and the boys
were really happy because now they will play in the semi finals of the knockout, which means we
are in the top 4 AFL schools in the state.
A massive thank you for the parents who came along. Their experience and support was greatly appreciated by the players and myself.
Again thanks to the Wittig family who drove the team up and back to the Gold Coast.

Boys State Basketball Knockout Finals
For the second year in a row a BBPS basketball team has made it to the state finals in
Bathurst. Last year it was our girls’ team and this year is the boys turn. This places them in the
top 8 teams in NSW. I would like to personally thank the following boys for their excellent
sportsmanship, continued enthusiastic approach towards training and putting their heart and
soul into playing every game to the best of their ability, Harley Kent, Jonah Caoyonan, Harry
Rutter, Luke Smith, David McCallum, Touma Cameron, Tom Huntsman, Gabe Shine and Tex
Hembrow. These boys have shown amazing sportsmanship and maturity beyond their years. I
am a very proud coach! I would also like to thank Alvin Caoyonan, my assistant coach who has
done an extraordinary job training the boys out of school for their comp and rep games.
To all the boys’ families, thank you for always giving 100 percent devotion and support. Without
you we would not have been able to get to where we have. A very special thank you to Kelley
Caoyonan and Jodie Kent for supporting me and helping organise travel and accommodation. They both have been working tirelessly to
help raise money for the team. Finally a massive thank you to the following businesses that have kindly given the team donations: Dan
from Byron Bay Boot Camp, Andrew Sheridan from Suffolk Park Hotel, Freckle from Byron Bay Seafood and the Byron Bay Beach Hotel.

Kindergarten 2016
The Kindergarten team would like to welcome and thank all of the parents who joined us at our Kindergarten Information Night last
Wednesday. We had quite a few guest speakers who clearly demonstrated what a wonderful school community we have here at Byron
Bay Public School. Thanks to Caston Smith, Jane Anderson, Nikki Kempnich and Geoff Spargo for speaking on the night. In particular we
wish to thank our fabulous representatives from our Year 6 SRC. The five students spoke beautifully about their own experiences at our
school in front of quite a large crowd. We were very proud of all of them as I'm sure their parents were. A special thank you to the parents
of our guest speakers for getting them to and from our event. We look forward to meeting our new Kindergarten students for 2016 over
the Kinder Orientation dates later this term and in Weeks 1-4 next term.
With thanks
The Kindergarten teachers

record attempt to have the greatest amount of
children eating vegetables at a given time.
This is to raise awareness of the importance of
eating vegetables every day.

crunch on. Some great ideas include:
Carrot, celery, cucumber, capsicum, corn (baby
corn spears or cobs), broccoli, cherry tomatoes, beans, snow peas
