BORLA® TECHNOLOGY
PATENTED POWER
Remember when you wanted to take the muffler off your first car? Everyone knew it was the easiest way to add more
power. Nowadays that would be a big mistake if you're running BORLA's. Thanks to our patented technology, BORLA®
exhaust systems can actually add power, by flowing better than a straight piece of pipe! In fact, winning racers run
BORLA's even when mufflers are not required by the official racing rules!
BORLA's straight-through and multi-core designs increase exhaust velocity to move more air through the engine.
Exhaust gases evacuate the cylinder completely, allowing the new charge to come into the cylinder, thereby creating
more power. The actual horsepower increase depends upon the fuel management system's ability to provide the right
amount of fuel to match the extra air flow, but generally 7 to 15% increases are typical.
PERFORMANCE TUNED
Today, choosing performance exhaust can be confusing. Many enthusiasts (and some manufacturers!) believe that very
large diameter pipes are the only way to go for muscle car performance. At BORLA ®, we've found that for street use, big
pipes just take energy out of the exhaust by slowing down exhaust gas velocity and cooling off the gases. While exhaust
may leave the port at 1500 degrees or more, it's down to 150 degrees at the tailpipe - a sure sign energy has been lost.
Furthermore, big pipes produce an uncomfortable droning sound that resonates inside the vehicle. A BORLA® exhaust
system keeps the velocity and frequency high, so the main sound is behind the tailpipe.
TRUE LIFETIME EXHAUST
BORLA's exhaust systems are built of aircraft-quality T-304 stainless steel. That means T-304 stainless inside and out
- not 400 series, not mild steel, not aluminum, not coated aluminum, not just wrapped with stainless on the outside for
show. Coating techniques such as aluminizing can somewhat prolong the life of mild steel, but coatings suffer at the
weld points. And comparing aluminized steel to T-304 stainless steel is like comparing gold-plated metal to solid gold!
T-304 stainless steel has the highest chromium content, making it the most resistant to corrosion and therefore the most
desirable material for a long-lasting exhaust system.

T-304 VS. 400-SERIES STAINLESS STEEL
Today, many manufacturers save cost by building systems from inferior
400 series stainless steel. They rely on consumer unawareness to infer
that 400 series is better than 300, simply because the number is higher.
Truth is, stainless steel rankings are like golf scores - the lower the
number, the better. BORLA® systems are made from premium aerospacegrade T-304 stainless steel, the alloy with optimum chromium and nickel
content to maximize resistance to corrosion. Comparing this alloy to 400
series (such as T-409) is like claiming vinyl seats are the same quality as
leather. In fact, a Society of Automotive Engineers report clearly
demonstrates the overwhelming advantages of 300 series stainless steel
over lesser grades like 400. Consumer beware!

CTS and CTS-V. The system for the CTS features a center resonator and two rear-mounted mufflers finished off with two

BORLA® has developed a unique adjustable Cat-Back™ system for Camaros. All the adjustable systems come with blockoff plates. These plates have different size holes in them. They are installed in the tailpipe on the passenger side allowing
you to adjust the sound you would like coming from your exhaust. The larger hole allows more sound to escape without going
through the muffler. Smaller holes force more through the muffler. This can also affect backpressure and torque. Smaller
hole equals more bottom-end torque. A larger hole more top-end torque. 140028 is now a new non-adjustable system.

BORLA® has three tip designs for the 84-91 Corvette. The 11330 has a Dual Round Intercooled tip; the 11376 has a Dual Square
Intercooled tip; and the 11579 has the Rectangular or LT-1 style tip. Either of these rear sections, combined with the appropriate “Y”
pipe, will give you a Cat-Back™ system with an upgrade to a 2.5” pipe. This increases flow over the original equipment system and
helps take advantage of any engine upgrades.
We produce a variety of products for the C5 Corvette (97-04), from smooth and quiet Cat-Back™ systems to kick-ass pipes-only
racing systems. Our “S-type” system has taken the industry by storm. We have three to choose from. The original “S-type” 140017
(“S-type denotes a style of muffler that is used. The muffler is a smaller round muffler with a center-in/center-out configuration that
gives a more aggressive sound and higher flow). The 140038 and 140039 are four-tip versions of the 140017. They come with the same
mufflers and give you the choice of either a Round tip or Oval tip. The same “S-type” mufflers are featured on the hot new 140051 and
140082, C4 systems. Now available for the C5 is our dyno tuned, merge, “X” pipe.

If you “gotta Hemi,” we’ve gotta system for you. The 140112 comes with four mufflers and 4” tips for a mild but deep
performance sound while the 140125 has two mufflers an “X” pipe and 5” bazookas for an aggressive sound and look.

board with Bobby Archer while he racks up more wins in a Viper than any other racer. BORLA® has developed a
Cat-Back™ system that fits both the 96-02 RT-10 and the GTS models. Part number 14663 comes with mid-mounted

After the huge success of our “S-Type” systems for the Corvettes, now BORLA® is introducing it for the Mustangs too. BORLA’s
“S-Type” mufflers are smaller, high flowing mufflers with a more aggressive sound. They may be too loud for use in some areas.
The 17237 XR-1, long tube header, adds significant performance to the 4.6L Mustang GT. It features its own merge, “X” pipe
and is designed for serious competition use only. It is not intend for use on emissions controlled vehicles.

FAQ’s
Q. Will I get better gas mileage?
A. Yes, a better performing engine uses less fuel more efficiently, increasing
fuel economy under normal cruising conditions. BORLA’s patented flow
through design and proper diameter mandrel bent tubing evacuate the
exhaust gases out the system much faster and at a much greater temperature than factory exhaust. This results in performance gains in HP when you
plant your foot and fuel economy at cruising speeds. And, the bigger the
vehicle, the bigger the engine, the bigger the load, the bigger the savings in
fuel. That's why UPS delivery trucks are BORLA®-equipped!
Q. Why does it cost more?
A. The most commonly used metals in the manufacture of exhaust systems
are rusty mild steel, aluminized steel or an inferior 409-grade of stainless.
BORLA® uses only Aircraft Quality T-304 Stainless Steel. It costs more than
the other lesser grades of steel. To cut, bend and hand weld T-304 grade
Stainless Steel takes special equipment too. Ask your local muffler shop if
they can make a smooth, precision mandrel bend in a 2.50" 304 Stainless
Steel pipe for you. You won't find many that can, and it won't be cheap. We
also focus heavily on research and development to assure that the system
fits, performs and sounds better than any other system on the market. Add
to this pressure testing, our Million-Mile Warranty and the years of race
winning technology that go into the systems made at BORLA®, and you will
see why we have so many loyal, repeat customers. A BORLA® is actually very
cost effective when you take into account the fact that most exhaust systems will need replacement within 18 months to 4 years while a BORLA®
exhaust is designed to last the life of your vehicle.
Q. What does it sound like?
A. BORLA® Cat-Back™ systems have a deeper, throatier tone than stock. Our
engineers take care in designing and tuning the systems with the mellow
sound of power, aggressive yet not annoying. Picture yourself driving
down the road and turning up the bass on your stereo system but not
changing the volume. That's what BORLA® sounds like!
Q. Will it void my factory warranty?
A. No, some cars even have BORLA® systems as the OEM exhaust. All of our
street exhaust products are 50-state emissions legal. Our headers are
50-state legal and C.A.R.B. approved. In fact, it is illegal for a dealer to
deny you the OE warranty because you h-ave changed the exhaust system. For more details, contact SEMA, the trade organization of the automotive aftermarket which has been instrumental in protecting such consumer rights, at www.sema.org, and they can refer you to the MagnusonMoss Warranty Act of 1975.
Q. Is a bigger pipe and muffler system better?
A. No, there has to be a balanced design to enhance the maximum engine output, exhaust gas velocity, and sound. If the diameter of the tubing is too
large, the exhaust gas velocity will be reduced and rob the exhaust of thermal efficiency.
Q. My new car came with Stainless Steel exhaust from the factory! What's
the difference?
A. Material Difference: Many new-model cars and trucks come factoryequipped with a low grade, 400 series stainless steel exhaust. These are an
improvement from the old, rusty steel systems and are built to improve durability somewhat. And, the inferior grade of stainless is the only cheap material that will last through the factory warranty period.
T-304 stainless steel, on the other hand, is an aircraft-quality grade with a
very high nickel and chromium content making it much more resistant to
corrosion. Because T-304 is a much higher-grade material and is harder to
work with, it is therefore too expensive for the OE to supply.

Performance Difference: BORLA® exhausts are also tuned to maximize the
performance output of your vehicle and feature a more attractive and cost
effective package than stock.
Q. Can I install a BORLA® system myself?
A. Yes, many of our customers enjoy installing their BORLA® system. Just be sure
you have good clearance and access under your vehicle, have the proper tools,
observe standard safety procedures, and ensure the vehicle is secured by
approved jack stands. We do, however, recommend you have a professional
installer do the work, especially for a header installation.
Q. Do I need to make any modifications to my vehicle to install the system?
A. No. Our systems are designed to be completely bolt-on to your vehicle.
Factory locations are utilized and all necessary installation hardware is
included in the kit.
Q. Is our product different from a 'glass pack' design?
A. Yes. A glass pack is a muffler usually containing a cheap grade of loose fiberglass insulation in a louvered tube. A byproduct of combustion is water which
combines with the expelled gases forming a variety of very corrosive acids.
These acids get absorbed by the fiberglass packing and attack the louvered
core. This in turn causes the core to rust and blow out along with the other
internals of the glass pack. All that is left is a loud, empty can. BORLA® mufflers, on the other hand, contain T-304 stainless steel perforated pipe wrapped
with several layers of stainless steel sound absorbing material and a blanket
of ceramic sound absorbing, high temperature material. The stainless steel
inner construction, which is impervious to all corrosive acids, protects the
ceramic packing from breaking down and getting blown out, so a BORLA®
muffler never needs replacing. In addition, a BORLA® muffler is the most
effective sound-absorbing device for the size.
Q. Are XR-1® exhaust products street legal?
A. Yes, when selected for the appropriate application.
