Going Green…Naturally
Did you know that more than half of all homes in the United States are heated with natural gas?
It’s not
surprising: natural gas is an efficient, environmentally friendly fuel that millions of Americans (and a
majority of Oklahomans) know provides the most value with the least impact on the planet we share.
And with improved technology, it takes less fuel to produce the energy we require to power our daily
lives. In fact, while the number of natural gas users grows each year, the average residential customer
today uses about 39 percent less fuel than the typical customer of four decades ago.
Today’s consumers are becoming more aware of the ability to conserve through better insulation,
the use of programmable thermostats and, of course, high-efficiency natural gas heaters and
appliances. Natural gas utilities—including Oklahoma Natural Gas Company—have
encouraged this trend. The American Gas Association says that programs funded by natural
gas utilities are helping consumers save about 53 trillion British Thermal Units (BTU) a year,
avoiding the release of 2.7 million metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Living green isn’t just the right thing to do—it can save money, too. Replacing
your outdated heater with a new, high-efficiency natural gas heater can
trim your energy use by 30 percent. Add another 10 percent
savings if you can lower your thermostat 10 to 15 degrees
for eight hours a day during the heating season.
It’s hot outside now, but winter will be here before you know it. Now is the time
to consider the benefits of new, more efficient equipment for your home.

Protecting Your Identity
Identity theft is a serious, growing problem. That’s why Oklahoma Natural Gas Company is careful to protect
your personal information from disclosure to unauthorized persons. When you establish an account for service,
we will ask for certain information so we can verify your identity. We will not disclose any information about you
or your account to third parties without your specific authorization.
How to Know If It’s Really Us
Occasionally, we get reports about individuals claiming to be Oklahoma Natural Gas
Company employees in order to gain access to your home or personal information. You
should know that we will almost never ask to come inside your home unless you’ve
contacted us for service or we are re-establishing service after it has been interrupted for
some reason. Oklahoma Natural Gas Company employees and contractors drive marked
vehicles, wear uniforms with the company name and logo and carry photo IDs. They will be happy to show
you their identification badges. If you have any concern at all about the legitimacy of someone claiming to be
working on behalf of Oklahoma Natural Gas Company, please call us.
You should also know that no legitimate representative of Oklahoma Natural Gas Company or any government or
social service agency will ever ask for a fee for access to programs that assist you in paying your natural gas bill.
If someone asks you for money claiming that he or she can eliminate your account balance, you are being
targeted for fraud. Report such incidents to Oklahoma Natural Gas and
local law enforcement authorities.
