Young men are failing as never before—
academically, socially, and sexually. But why is
this so? What are the implications? And what
needs to be done about it before it's too late?
Man, Interrupted
Why Young Men Are Struggling
& What We Can Do About It
Philip Zimbardo and Nikita Coulombe
In 2011, Philip Zimbardo gave a TED Talk called “The Demise of Guys,”
which has been viewed by over 1.8 million people. A TED eBook short
followed that chronicled how in record numbers men are flaming
out academically and failing socially and sexually with women. This
new book is an expansion of that brief polemic based on Zimbardo’s
observations, research, and the survey that was completed by over
20,000 viewers of the original TED Talk.
The premise here is that we are facing a not-so-brave new world; a
world in which young men are getting left behind. Philip Zimbardo
and Nikita Coulombe say that an addiction to video games and
online porn have created a generation of shy, socially awkward,
emotionally removed, and risk-adverse young men who are unable
(and unwilling) to navigate the complexities and risks inherent to
real-life relationships, school, and employment. Taking a critical look
at a problem that is tearing at families and societies everywhere, Man,
Interrupted suggests that our young men are suffering from a new form
of “arousal addiction,” and introduce a bold new plan for getting them
back on track.
The concluding chapters offer a set of solutions that can be affected
by different segments of society including schools, parents, and young
men themselves.
Filled with telling anecdotes, results of fascinating research, perceptive
analysis, and concrete suggestions for change, Man, Interrupted is a
book for our time. It is a book that informs, challenges, and ultimately
inspires.

A wise and profound guide to joyful living
The Dalai Lama's
Big Book of Happiness
How to Live in Freedom, Compassion, and Love
His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Edited by Renuka Singh
Everyone wants to be happy. Here in this profound volume is a road
map for discovering a life filled with happiness, joy, and a sense
of purpose. The Dalai Lama’s basic premise is that each of us is
responsible for our own health and happiness and for the health of
society. He further asserts that health and happiness are within our
reach—both individually and collectively.
How a person thinks, behaves, and feels ultimately impacts not only
their own lives, but also the society in which they live. If you desire
to attain happiness, you must understand that the journey begins
with you. It is only then that you can reach out and touch the lives of
others and change society.
About the Author
His Holiness the fourteenth Dalai Lama, Tenzin
Gyatso, is the spiritual and temporal leader of the
Tibetan people. He has written a number of books
on Buddhism and philosophy and has received many
international awards, including the 1989 Nobel
Peace Prize.
Here, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, with characteristic wisdom, humor,
and kindness, directs readers toward a happy, healthy, and peaceful
life. Talking about universal themes such as compassion, peace, nonviolence, secularism, and the pursuit of a healthy mind and body, he
reminds us that the responsibility to change our thoughts, actions, and
lives lies within our power.
This is a book for fans of His Holiness, for spiritual seekers, and for
those interested in the spiritual and emotional health of individuals
and societies.

Stop. Breathe. Focus. Reflect.
The Woman's Book of Joy
Listen to your Heart,
Live with Gratitude, and Find Your Bliss
Eileen Campbell
Women have many challenges to deal with in their lives. Among the
most ubiquitous of those challenges is self-care. Too often they are
focused on caring for others and not themselves. Yet deep within,
women have a tremendous resource—a capacity for real joy that is not
dependent on anything external.
This is a book that encourages and inspires women to care more deeply
for themselves and to face life’s challenges with courage and joy. It is
a practical resource for accessing inner wisdom, enhancing self-esteem,
overcoming sorrow, and deepening relationships.
Each of the 150 meditations in this volume begins with an inspirational
quote, followed by a thoughtful meditation, and concluded with an
affirmation. These meditations provide the opportunity to contemplate
a wide range of topics, including:
• Developing awareness
• Letting go
• Believing in your dreams
• Living in the now
• Finding your true purpose
• Practicing kindness
• Being optimistic
• Trusting the universe
• Appreciating life’s blessings
About the Author
Eileen Campbell has worked
for major publishers, including
Random House, Penguin, and
Rodale, in a variety of capacities.
She was a member of the board
of directors for Harper Collins
UK from 1989 to 1999—running three separate
divisions. She was also a writer/presenter for BBC
Radio’s “Something Understood” and “Pause for
Thought” in the 1990s, and she compiled a number
of successful anthologies. She lives in England.

A WORLD-CLASS GENETICIST'S SEARCH FOR HUMAN ORIGINS
Bigfoot, Yeti,
and the Last Neanderthal
A Geneticist's Search for Modern Apemen
Bryan Sykes
"...you're talking about a yeti or bigfoot or sasquatch. Well now, you'll be
amazed when I tell you that I'm sure they exist." —Jane Goodall on NPR
This is "The Big Book of Yetis." What the reader gets here is a worldclass geneticist's search for evidence for the existence of Big Foot, yeti,
or the abominable snowman.
Along the way, he visits sites of alleged sightings of these strange
creatures, attends meetings of cryptozoologists, recounts the stories
of famous monster-hunting expeditions, and runs possible yeti DNA
through his highly regarded lab in Oxford. Sykes introduces us to the
crackpots, visionaries, and adventurers who have been involved in
research into this possible scientific dead-end over the past 100 years.
Sykes is a serious scientist who knows how to tell a story, and this is a
credible and engaging account.
Almost, but not quite human, the yeti and its counterparts from wild
regions of the world, still exert a powerful atavistic influence on us. Is
the yeti just a phantasm of our imagination or a survivor from our own
savage ancestry? Or is it a real creature? This is the mystery that Bryan
Sykes set out to unlock.
"An intriguing book . . . It is this humanity, this cheerful readiness to
travel out into the deepest pine forests of Washington State to interview
a twitchy hunter in a Chewbacca T-shirt about something he thought he
heard groaning in the woods that makes this book worth reading. If
science does ever acknowledge the yeti, it will be thanks to somebody
very much like Sykes." —The Times (London)
16A_Trade_interior_v34.indd 7
About the Author
Bryan Sykes is a Professor of
Human Genetics at the University
of Oxford and a Fellow of Wolfson
College. He has been involved
in a number of high-profile
cases dealing with ancient
DNA, including those of “Otzi the Iceman,” a
well-preserved natural mummy of a man who lived
around 3,300 BC and “Cheddar Man,” the remains of
a man found in Cheddar Gorge, from approximately
7,150 BC. It is Britain's oldest complete human
skeleton. Professor Sykes in best known outside the
community of geneticists for his bestselling books
on the investigation of human history and prehistory through studies of mitochondrial DNA.

Communing with
the Ancestors
Your Spirit Guides, Bloodline Allies,
and the Cycle of Reincarnation
Raven Grimassi
This book demonstrates how to communicate and make contact
with ancestral spirits, including practical methods for seeking their
guidance.
About the Author
Raven Grimassi is a neo-pagan
scholar and award-winning author of
more than 12 books on witchcraft,
Wicca, and neo-paganism. He is a

explains the interactions between ancestors, the living, and the dead
and examines how communication with the ancestors is strengthened
through various techniques and ritual practices.
True to Raven’s style, the book includes folklore, legend, and
superstition surrounding the topic. Shrines, altars, and offerings are
discussed in detail. Ancient practices related to communing with
the ancestors are revived, and new rituals are provided, including an
exercise to lead readers into the “cavern of the ancestors” through
guided imagery. Sacred sites, power places, special portals to the
ancients, reincarnation, and the “restless dead who are still bound to

Change Your Mind and Your Life Will Follow suggests that we have only
two real choices in life. The first is to fall into despair, become numb,
and let fear have its way with us. The second is to open our hearts to
those around us, to heal ourselves and each other by changing how we
respond in every interaction. Organized around 12 very simple steps,
this book gives readers the tools to find within them the positive,
peaceful response to every curve ball life throws at them.
“These simple steps can lead to a peaceful and meaningful life. Casey’s selfhelp book is a winner!” —Frederick Brussat, spiritualityandpractice.com
“This book is a must-read for anyone who cares about the quality of his
thoughts and how being aware of them can bring positive change.”
—Mary Porter, Science of Mind
“This book is small, is easy to digest, and would likely be taken from the
display shelf by someone needing a psychological boost.”

Popular energy healer to major
corporations and well-known entertainers
Gentle Energy Touch
The Beginner's Guide to Hands-On Healing
Barbara E. Savin, C. Ht.
Imagine being able to utilize the power of your mind for the purpose
of healing with Universal Energy—just by asking. Gentle Energy Touch,
a form of energy medicine pioneered by Barbara Savin, does just that
by using intention to begin the healing process of an individual.
In Gentle Energy Touch readers will learn some of Savin’s basic, handson techniques for assisting the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
The beauty of the Gentle Energy Touch approach is that while it can
produce results on its own, it also complements all medical treatments
and modalities, often shortening treatment and speeding healing.
It is particularly effective for pain management and has also been
used successfully to treat depression and anxiety, skin problems,
heart disease, even cancer, mitigating the nastiest side effects of
conventional treatment and generally helping the body marshal its own
resources for getting well.
Gentle Energy Touch includes more than 50 photographs and simple
explanations of the chakras and auras and how energy moves—and
gets stuck—in the body, and then guides readers through an energy
healing session including hands-on positions for different ailments and
a closing and grounding at the end.

How to Communicate
Like a Buddhist
Cynthia Kane
After the sudden death of a friend, Cynthia Kane realized that life
is too short to waste time being misunderstood, misheard, and
misrepresenting her needs and desires, and that life could be richer
and more satisfying if she was able to communicate with a greater
level of kindness, clarity, and awareness.
About the Author
Cynthia Kane received her BA from Bard College
and her MFA from Sarah Lawrence College. She has
written for national and international publications
including Yoga Journal, VegNews, Bridal Guide,
BlackBook Magazine City Guides, Pregnancy, The
Jerusalem Post, and more. Online she has written
for BBC Travel, Refinery29, Elite Daily, Role Reboot,
Elephant Journal, Bustle, and Everyday Feminism.
She practices meditation and mindfulness on a
regular basis. www.cynthiakane.com
Kane’s book, based on Buddhism’s Four Elements of Right Speech, is
a simple and practical guide for learning communication skills that
inevitably result in better relationships, enhanced self-esteem, and
conscious living. The 5 steps for communicating like the Buddha are:
1.Listen to yourself.
2.Speak consciously, concisely, and clearly.
3.Listen to others.
4.Regard silence as a part of speech.
5.Meditate.
When followed, these steps will result in an awareness of what is
being communicated to others and to oneself (truths or untruths), an
understanding of how best to speak to others, more effective listening
skills, and the ability to know how and when to effectively use silence.
In short, this approach results in a satisfying and mindful life.

Enough!
How to Liberate Yourself and
Remake the World with Just One Word
Laurie McCammon, MS
In the cultural story in which we live, we are told that we are never
enough. We think we must repeatedly alter or improve ourselves in
order to be deserving of the happiness, acceptance, security, and
meaning we desire. We are told we are not enough to make a difference
in the mounting economic, political, social, and environmental crises
of our times. But what if all of these messages are wrong? What if
most of the suffering we experience—low self-esteem, self-doubt,
depression, anxiety, addiction, fear, and stress—aren’t an indication
of personal deficit, but are direct symptoms of a set of cultural norms
that cause us to orient toward lack while systematically ignoring
opportunities for abundance and well-being for ourselves and the
planet?
Enough! offers a solution to our broken paradigm and our broken
psyches and shows readers how to root out this never-enough
story and develop a sense of “enoughness” that leads organically
to solutions to problems from the personal to the local to the
geopolitical.
From these words “I am enough. I have enough. We are enough. We
have enough. Enough!,” author Laurie McCammon shows that a more
positive and collectively abundant future is inevitable.

Discover The Urantia Book and understand
the mysteries of the human soul.
Your Evolving Soul
The Path of Integral Spirituality
in the Urantia Revelation
Byron Belitsos
The Urantia Book offers a complex revelation about the human soul
that stands alone in its coherence and richness of detail.
Your Evolving Soul is the first book to explain this advanced teaching
for the ordinary reader, while also comparing Urantia teachings on
soul evolution to other accounts of the soul in philosophy and the
wisdom traditions, utilizing as an analytical tool the integral theories
of philosopher Ken Wilber. Belitsos depicts the human soul as a
species of the higher mind that is quintessentially evolutionary and
experiential—a sacred vehicle of personal identity and immortality that
contributes something crucial to cosmic evolution.
Through his interpretation of the Urantia material, the author offers a
model of the human soul to be tested, examined, and compared—not
as a finished truth to be accepted as doctrine.
About the Author
Byron Belitsos is one of world’s leading exponents
of The Urantia Book. He is the publisher, editor, or
coauthor of numerous acclaimed books, including
many related to the Urantia Revelation. A student
of The Urantia Book for 41 years, he has spoken
about its teachings at many conferences and on
innumerable programs, including Coast-to-Coast AM
Radio, Red Ice Radio, and GaiamTV. Belitsos is also
the coauthor and publisher of A Return to Healing
(Origin Press, 2009), which won a Nautilus Gold
award. He resides in San Rafael, California.

A simple guide to finding and
embracing an authentic life
The Mastery of Self
A Toltec Guide to Freedom
don Miguel Ruiz, Jr.
The ancient Toltecs believed that life as we perceive it is a dream.
We each live in our own personal dream, and all of our dreams come
together to make the Dream of the Planet. Problems arise when we
forget that the dream is just a dream and fall victim to believing that
we have no control over it.
The Mastery of Self takes the Toltec philosophy of the Dream of the
Planet and the personal dream and explains how a person can:
• Wake up
• Liberate themselves from illusory beliefs and stories
• Live with authenticity
About the Author
Once released, we can live as our true, authentic, loving self, not only
in solitude and meditation, but in any place—at the grocery store,
stuck in traffic, etc.—and in any situation or scenario that confronts
us.
The Ruiz family has an enormous following and a powerful marketing
machine. This new book from don Miguel, Jr. will be greeted with
enthusiasm by fans around the world.

GOOD NEWS FROM HOME; A PRACTICAL GUIDE
for BECOMING IN TUNE WITH THE INFINITE
The Gifts of Near-Death
Experiences
You Don't Have to Die to Experience Your True Home
Dennis Linn, Sheila Fabricant Linn, and Matthew Linn
Foreword by Kenneth Ring
Near-death experiences (NDEs) are common, well-documented, and
similar across cultures throughout the world. Current estimates are that
between 4 and 15 percent of the world's population have had an NDE.
Some of the fascination with NDEs comes from the fact that they often
result in great leaps in personal growth. These leaps are characterized
by the loss of the fear of death, the healing of deep hurts, an increase
in self-esteem and compassion for others, a sense of union with all
things, and a clearer sense of how to fulfill one's purpose in life.
This is a book that teaches readers how to reap the benefits of NDEs
without having to experience trauma. In the course of their many
workshops around the world, the authors have discovered that when
one immerses oneself in accounts of NDEs, one can experience love,
hope, healing, and a sense of purpose.
This is the only book that systematically encourages the reader to
create a spiritual and psychological healing practice based on NDEs.
Each chapter includes an account of a fascinating NDE, followed by a
series of questions, meditations, exercises, and video links. The reader
is encouraged to contemplate these stories and their own lives. It is
truly a profound guide to both living and dying.
About the Authors
Sheila Fabricant Linn and Dennis and Matt Linn
work together as a team, integrating physical,
emotional, and spiritual wholeness. They have
taught courses on processes for healing around the
world. They are the authors of 23 books, including
2 books for children and those who care for them.
These books have sold over a million copies in
English and have been translated into more than 20
languages. Dennis and Sheila live in Colorado with
their son, John. Matt lives in a Jesuit community in
Minnesota.

A lively and well-informed primer
for students of Eastern mystery traditions
Chinese Alchemy
Taoism, the Power of Gold,
and the Quest for Immortality
Jean Cooper
Here in one slender volume is a basic introduction to Chinese
alchemy—a tradition that dates back 5,000 years.
About the Author
Jean Cooper (1905–1999) was born in China and
has traveled extensively. She read philosophy at St.
Andrews University and had a lifelong interest in
comparative religion, Taoism in particular.
Chinese alchemy, largely associated with Taoism, has a recorded history
of more than 2,000 years, but traditionally it goes back even further
to nearly 3000 BC and the time of the Yellow Emperor. While Western
alchemy was concerned with the search for spiritual and material gold,
classic Taoist alchemy was a mystical quest for immortality with its aim
being union with the Absolute.
Jean Cooper describes the history and development of Taoist alchemy,
compares it to similar traditions in India and Turkistan, and gives it
context by contrasting it with the rationale of the Western hermetic
tradition. As she writes in her concluding chapter:
The whole work of alchemy is summed up in the phrase "To make
of the body a spirit and of the spirit a body". . . . The goal of the
Taoist alchemist-mystic was transformation, or perhaps more correctly,
transfiguration, of the whole body until it ceases to "be" and is absorbed
into and becomes the Tao.
This is an essential guide for anyone interested in Chinese legend and
lore, Chinese magic and medicine, and Taoism.

A little book for lovers
Rumi's Little Book
of the Heart
Edited by Maryam Mafi and Azima Melita Kolin
In this slender volume, Rumi explores the joy of friendship and the
agony of loss. These poetic meditations on the most profound of human
relationships are like crystals: they sparkle with the many hues of the
rainbow and contain worlds within, capturing us with their mystery.
Here are poems that cause us to reflect on our own relationships, to
experience again the intensity of friendship, the ache of loss, and the
profundity of immersion.
About the Editors
Maryam Mafi was born and raised in Iran and is
an experienced Persian translator who has studied
in the US and translated a variety of scholarly and
poetic works.
This is a book for poetry lovers, Rumi fans, and all gift-giving
occasions; a book to treasure and to share.
Imitating others,
I failed to find myself
I looked inside and discovered
I only knew my name.
When I stepped outside
I found my real Self.
Azima Melita Kolin was born in Bulgaria and is
a concert pianist and an artist. She completed
her studies at the musical academies in Sofia,
Rome and Geneva and has won many international
competitions in Germany, Italy, and Spain. She also
studied painting and has had many exhibitions in
the UK and abroad.

true magical signs, from which we can draw the

Runes, Plain & Simple
The Only Book You'll Ever Need
Kim Farnell
Runes are alphabet letters or characters that have been used for
thousands of years as a form of communication and divination. This
book, written by an authority on divination systems, shows readers
how to make their own set of runes and how to interpret them.
Included in this primer are:
1.A brief overview of the runes, from Etruscan times to the present
2.A summary of the myths and lore that inform runic wisdom
3.Definitions of the basic rune symbols
4.Instructions on how to read the runes and rune spreads
5.An introduction to runic magic
About the Author
Kim Farnell has been a professional astrologer
since 1990 and has taught astrology and lectured
extensively in the UK and overseas. She was
previously the Vice Chair of the Astrological
Association of Great Britain and has been the
editor of its newsletter, Transit, in print and online.
She has also written sun sign columns for a number
of magazines and websites and has published
articles in numerous astrological periodicals all over
the world. Kim has an MA in Cultural Astronomy
and Astrology and is the author of several books.
In the past 25 years using runes as a divination tool has become
increasingly popular. This most accessible guide presents each letter of
the runic alphabet in detail with its origins and magical uses and helps
seekers tap into their energy. From making your own runes (and a bag
to protect them) to reading the ancient alphabet, casting the runes,
and interpreting the spread, all the basics are laid out in a clear, easyto-follow, and superbly illustrated fashion, perfect for beginners.
This is a new edition of the author’s Simply Runes
that was published by Sterling in 2006.

DISCOVER NEW INSIGHTS INTO THE TAROT
Tarot Mysteries
Rediscovering the Real Meaning of the Cards
Jonathan Dee
This is a practical and accessible guide to one of the most popular
divination systems. What makes this book different from the others is
that it:
About the Author
Jonathan Dee was an acclaimed astrology, tarot
card reader, and psychic. He was also a scholarly
astrologer and a prolific author who had an
exhaustive knowledge of Ancient Egyptian history.
A direct descendant of the Royal Astrologer and
mathematician to Queen Elizabeth I, Dr. John Dee
of old, Jo nathan died in 2010 at the age of 52.
An illustrated edition of this title was published by
Sterling in 2003.
• Provides instruction on reading both the Major and Minor Arcana
• Explains why the cards are the cards, why each picture forms part of a sequence, and why they occupy a mystical place in our consciousness
• Gives a balanced and informative perspective on each of the cards, as well as an overview of the entire deck
• Provides a history of the tarot
• Connects the tarot to the Qabalah
Dee is a life-long tarot reader and historian. He traces the spiritual
origins of the cards from Celtic mythology and Hebrew mysticism
to Renaissance theatrical productions and the stars and planets of
astrology. He also examines how past scholars thought about the tarot
and how that thinking has changed to make the cards meaningful
for today's readers. This wide-ranging primer provides readers with
everything they need to know about the tarot and fresh insights into
the cards.

Sacred America,
Sacred World
Fulfilling Our Mission in Service to All
Stephen Dinan
Foreword by Marianne Williamson
Infused with visionary power, Sacred America, Sacred World is a
manifesto for our country’s evolution that is both political and deeply
spiritual. It offers profound hope that America can grow beyond
our current challenges and manifest our noblest destiny, which the
book shows is rooted in sacred principles that transcend left or right
political views.
Filled with practical ideas and innovative strategies honed from
the author’s work with over 1000 luminaries via his company, The
Shift Network, Sacred America, Sacred World rings with a can-do
entrepreneurial spirit and explains how America can lead the world
toward peace, sustainability, health, and prosperity. This vision of the
future weaves the best of today’s emergent spirituality with seasoned
political wisdom, demonstrating ways America can grow beyond its
current stagnation and political gridlock to become a world leader in
peace and progress.
Published to coincide with the party conventions and presidential
debates, this book will promote a return to the sacred principles
cherished by America's forefathers in order to create a “transpartisan,”
non-ideological, pragmatic approach to social reform. This uplifting
discussion explores evolutions in political leadership, environmental
concerns, and economic reformation.
It is time to forge a bold new image of America’s future and this is a
road map for getting there.

Palmistry, Plain & Simple
Sasha Fenton
Our lives are in our hands, which provide clues to who we are, what we have
been, and what might be. "Just as a pebble thrown into the water creates
ripples, so our thoughts create similar effects on our palms." —Michael Scotts
This delightful and practical guide demonstrates how easy it is to read hands
for fun and pleasure. The basic premise here is that our hands provide a
glimpse of our personalities, health, strengths, and weaknesses—and even
what may happen to us in the future. Each line, mound, and finger is a clue
that can easily be deciphered if you have the right information.
Fenton covers the basics of hand reading, including the lines, mounts, fingers,
and thumb. She shows readers how to judge someone's character, health, love
and relationship interests, moneymaking ability, and long-term destiny.

32 Prison Industrial Complex For Beginners is a graphic narrative project that
attempts to distill the fundamental components of what scholars, activists, and
artists have identified as the Mass Incarceration movement in the United States.
Relying on the “law and order” ideology fomented by President Nixon and
developed at least partially in response to the unrest generated through the Civil
Rights Movement, the Prison Industrial Complex is (and has been) enhanced
and emboldened via the US “war on drugs.” By any account, those policies have
failed to do anything except normalize the warehousing of nonviolent substance
abusers in jails and prisons that serve more as criminal training centers then as
redemptive spaces for citizens who might re-enter society successfully.

Everything you wanted to know
(and some you didn’t) about libertarians
Libertarianism
For Beginners
Todd Seavey
Illustrated by Nathan Smith, Foreword by John Stossel
Libertarianism isn’t about winning elections; it is first and foremost
a political philosophy—a description of how, in the opinion of
libertarians, free people ought to treat one another, at least when they
use the law, which they regard as potentially dangerous. If libertarians
are correct, the law should intrude into people’s lives as little as
possible, rarely telling them what to do or how to live.
A political and economic philosophy as old as John Locke and John
Stuart Mill, but as alive and timely as Rand Paul, the Tea Party, and
the novels of Ayn Rand, libertarianism emphasizes individual rights
and calls for a radical reduction in the power and size of government.
Libertarianism For Beginners lays out the history and principles of this
often-misunderstood philosophy in lucid, dispassionate terms that help
illuminate today’s political dialogue.

Proust explained, finally
Proust For Beginners
Steve Bachmann
Illustrated by Van Howell, Foreword by Harold Augenbraum
Proust For Beginners is a compelling biography of French novelist Marcel
Proust and a vivid portrait of his times. It also serves as a concise
guide and critical review of In Search of Lost Time (À la recherche du
temps perdu, 7 volumes, 1913–1927), one of the most difficult—yet
widely taught—works of French literature.
About the Author
Steve Bachmann is a Proust enthusiast, former
attorney, founder of the New Orleans Art Review,
and author of Extreme Proust, The Harvardwood
Introduction to Proust, and U.S. Constitution For
Beginners.
About the Illustrator
With extensive passages from In Search of Lost Time and other essential
works, Proust For Beginners highlights the defining themes and unique
literary style of a modern master whom many have heard about but few
fully fathom. It portrays Proust and the milieu in which he wrote in
vivid detail, bringing to life the “Proustian moments” at the heart of
his greatest work—and our own everyday experience.
Proust’s masterpiece “begins in a series of rooms in which he
unlocks themes, styles, references, and foreshadows,” writes Harold
Augenbraum in the foreword. Proust For Beginners will provide the key.
Van Howell is a political cartoonist, caricaturist,
and book illustrator of Derrida For Beginners.

Mormonism For Beginners
Stephen Carter
Illustrated by Jett Atwood, Foreword by Jana Riess
Mormonism For Beginners is a balanced, richly engaging introduction to the
history, tenets, practices, traditions, and yes, debates and controversies of
this uniquely American Protestant movement. Designed for the uninitiated
or younger members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
(LDS), this book presents the history of the movement from Joseph Smith
to the 21st century along with the key doctrines of the faith in the context
of everyday life, as well as the essential scriptures. Not least of Carter and
Atwood’s accomplishments is addressing such headline-grabbing issues as
polygamy, same-sex marriage, and the role of women in the LDS church in
dispassionate, even-handed terms. Their goal is to shed a clear light on an
often misunderstood belief system and way of life.
About the Author and Illustrator
Stephen Carter is the editor of Sunstone magazine and the author of What of the Night?, an
award-winning collection of personal essays on Mormon themes, and iPlates Volume 1 and
Volume 2, an acclaimed comic series based on the Book of Mormon. Jett Atwood is a San
Francisco-based animator and cartoonist who has worked on numerous comic-book titles,
video games, and short films. A longtime collaborator with Carter, she contributes regularly to
Sunstone magazine.

Abstract Expressionism
For Beginners
Richard Klin
Illustrated by Lily Prince, Foreword by Steven Zucker
Abstract Expressionism was the defining movement in American art during
the years following World War II, making New York City the center of the
international art scene. But what the heck did it mean! The drips, the spills,
the splashes, the blotches of color, the wild spontaneous energy—signifying
what? Abstract Expressionism For Beginners will not only help you understand,
but also appreciate the art of some of the most iconic figures in modern art—
Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, Helen Frankenthaler, and
others. Explore their lives and artistic roots, the heady world of Greenwich
Village in the 1940s and 1950s, the influence of jazz, the voices of critics, and
the enduring legacy of a uniquely inspired group of artists.
About the Author and Illustrator
Richard Klin is a freelance writer and editor and the author of Something to Say: Thoughts
on Art and Politics in America (2011). Lily Prince is a widely exhibited, commissioned,
and published artist and illustrator and an Associate Professor of Art at William Paterson

A ground-breaking translation of an
influential text on medieval magic
The Sworn Book
of Honorius
Liber Iuratus Honorii
Honorius of Thebes
Text, Translation, and Commentary by Joseph Peterson
About the Contributor
Joseph H. Peterson has translated many esoteric
and religious source works including The Clavis or
Key to the Magic of Solomon, Arbatel, and John
Dee’s Five Books of Mystery. Peterson is an active
member of the American Academy of Religion
and the American Folklore Society. He has an
extensive collection of rare esoteric documents,
which he shares at his award-winning websites
esotericarchives.com and avesta.org. He lives near
Rochester Minnesota.
As the title testifies, students were sworn to secrecy before being
given access to this magic text, and only a few manuscripts have
survived. Bits of its teachings, such as the use of the magic whistle for
summoning spirits, are alluded to in other texts. Another key element
of its ritual, the elaborate “Seal of God,” has been found in texts and
amulets throughout Europe.
Interest in The Sworn Book of Honorius has grown in recent years, yet
no modern translations have been attempted—until now.
Purporting to preserve the magic of Solomon in the face of intense
persecution by religious authorities, this text includes one of the
oldest and most detailed magic rituals. It contains a complete system
of magic including how to attain the divine vision, communicate with
holy angels, and control aerial, earthly, and infernal spirits for practical
gain.
Largely ignored by historians until recently, this text is an important
witness to the transmission of Kabbalah and Jewish mysticism to
European Hermeticists.

A new way to way to understand some of
Shakespeare’s best-loved plays
Shakespeare and the Stars
The Hidden Astrological Keys to Understanding the
World's Greatest Playwright
Priscilla Costello
To celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, this book
offers fresh and exciting insights into the ever-popular works of the
world’s greatest playwright. It specifically highlights Shakespeare’s use
of the archetypal language of astrological symbolism in both obvious
and subtle ways. Such references would have been commonly known in
Shakespeare’s time, but their deeper significance is lost to modern-day
playgoers and readers.
The first half of the book describes the Elizabethan worldview and
how the seven known planets were considered an integral part of the
cosmos and instrumental in shaping human character. The second half
of the book examines six of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays in the light
of astrological symbolism, showing how they are entirely keyed to a
specific zodiacal sign and its associated (or ruling) planet. The chosen
plays are A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, The Merchant of
Venice, Macbeth, The Tempest, and King Lear. Each chapter incorporates
information and examples from astrological tradition, classical and
Renaissance philosophy, Greek and Roman mythology, esoteric wisdom,
modern psychology (especially that of C. G. Jung), and great literature.
About the Author:
Priscilla Costello, MA, Dipl. CAAE, is a educator,
writer, speaker, and counseling astrologer. An
enthusiastic lover of Shakespeare’s work, she
taught English language and literature for more
than 30 years. As a professional astrologer, she
has the unique ability to synthesize Shakespeare’s
literary and astrological themes. She is the author
of The Weiser Concise Guide to Practical Astrology
(2008). She is also the founder and director of The
New Alexandria, a center for religious, spiritual,
and esoteric studies. Visit her online at www.
priscillacostello.com.
Thoroughly researched and well-illustrated, this book illuminates
the plays from a fresh perspective that will deepen and profoundly
transform how we understand them.

Fantastic Adventures
in Metaphysics
Michael Perlin
This book explores the secret teachings of all the great philosophers and
spiritual geniuses of our time and reveals the common theme throughout all of
them.
According to the esoteric schools of advanced knowledge, certain divinely
inspired teachers brought spiritual, philosophical, and scientific knowledge
to the human race following a global cataclysm. This planet has a history of
unexplained phenomena that still baffles scientists today. There have been
structures built all over the world that are simply out of place and out of time.
Have humans been on the scene much longer than we previously thought? Did
they leave us clues in writing, sacred geometry, and architecture about who
they were and where they came from? Do these clues reveal the truth about
who we really are?
About the Author
Michael Perlin is the director, writer, and producer of the metaphysical film, 3 Magic Words.
Michael believes that the problems we face in the world today are still going on because
we live mostly on a "religious" planet and not a "spiritual" one. He believes there is an
answer—a solution that can only come from a new spirituality that embraces a unifying
reality of all the religions and sets aside the old ego-driven idea that there is only one true
way.

We Are the Creators
A Little Everyday Philosophy
L. R. Sumpter
L.R. Sumpter's intriguing book explores new possibilities of how we can develop
our spiritual powers.
Inspired by his philosophical and metaphysical studies and at times by a spirit
guide named Feh, Sumpter provides fresh insights about how we relate to
our world and vice versa. He shows us how to release dormant mental powers
through material manifestations of our life plan to better control our lives and
gain new freedoms. His chapter on déjà vu is particularly interesting in how it
describes visions of the future rather than flashbacks of the past.
This book is a must-read for those interested in New Age philosophy.
About the Author
When L. R. Sumpter was a sophomore in high school he read Ignatius Donnelly’s book on
Atlantis. This was the beginning of a lifelong interest in “maverick” history and science that
persisted through years of formal study for undergraduate and graduate degrees and through
his more than 35 years of teaching in elementary, secondary, and higher education settings.

Becoming
A Spiritual Guide for Navigating Adulthood
Edited by Kayla Parker
This elegant volume offers itself as a spiritual companion for young
adults and all who live amid transitions and tensions.
Dozens of carefully selected readings address themes that are
prominent for people in their twenties and early thirties. The topics
include:
• Passion and purpose
• Identity
• Community
• Losing and finding
• Justice and creation
About the Author
Kayla Parker is a seminarian at Yale Divinity
School. A young adult herself, she previously served
as Campus Ministry Associate for the Unitarian
Universalist Association.
Each section features reflections from Unitarian Universalist young
adults, as well as poems, prayers, and opening and closing words
from contemporary and ancient peoples. This treasury of uplifting
and thought-provoking meditations can serve as a guide and provide
comfort on our never-ending journey of becoming.
"We are always facing transition, always in need of fellow travelers and
touchstones on our journey of becoming—perhaps never more so than when
we are in our twenties and thirties. In these pages, poems speak to our
souls; essays by young adults connect with us about their experiences; and
songs and prayers lift our hearts in worship. Taken together, this poignant
collection gently reminds us that none of us is alone as we navigate
the shifting tides of adulthood." —Rev. Peter Morales, President of the
Unitarian Universalist Association
