RESERVE RELOCATION?
This year marks the 100th year that some 125 of our community members were ordered to leave
the King’s Road Reserve. Over the past few months, we have the discussed the idea of planning
an event to honor and to
recognize those families and individuals who lived through those difficult times.
We wish to organize a Planning Committee to commemorate this event. If you are interested in
volunteering for this Committee, please contact Dan Christmas at [email protected] or

FIRST NATIONS REGIONAL HEALTH SURVEY
The First Nations Regional Health Survey collects information about on-reserve and northern First Nations communities based on both Western and
traditional understandings of health and well-being. The information is collected by trained field workers and has gone through cycles by gathering quality, culturally relevant data from First Nations people. This data influences
various programs and policies such as the Aboriginal Diabetes Initiative, Aboriginal Head Start Program, the Children’s Oral Health Initiative, Communicable Disease Control, Food Security and Nutrition, Healthy Living. After
the survey information is collected and protected by RHS Field Workers. The
safety and security of First Nations data is very important and each Field
Worker has been trained with a set of guidelines that require data be confidential and safe. The analyzed data and information is then released in a series of
targeted reports in 2016-17. Shylo Marshall is Memberotu’s Field Worker. If
you complete a survey, your name will go into a draw for an iPad.

Summary of Abuse or Addiction:
How can you tell if a problem is Abuse or Addiction?
Addiction is usually characterized an absolute NEED to
use because the
withdrawal is so severe it can’t be tolerated.
Abuse or Addiction is an important
difference but both problems need to be addressed with
treatment. If addiction has not set in yet then it may be
less difficult to end the abuse.
Whether it’s Abuse or Addiction don’t wait to address the
problem. The longer the use goes untreated the more
difficult it will be to treat. The longer it goes unchecked the more likely it will move from abuse to addiction.
Addiction is a disease of the mind, body and SPIRIT
Let’s establish one important point of understanding about addiction. We are body, mind and spirit, and because
of that, addiction is as much a disease of the spirit as it is of the body and mind. Unlike other chronic diseases, like
diabetes, asthma, or heart disease, the spiritual component of Addiction will play a major role in a person’s recovery.
