The feedback was finally very encouraging, especially when we
explained the projected elaborate diecasting process for the onepiece aluminium cabinet, and the optionally availabe front covers in
various colors and finishes. Thus we decided to proceed, and asked
our designers and suppliers to start the prototyping, which will be
carried out during the summer months. More “making-of“ stories
coming up later this year!
Our demo featured Audio Aero’s wonderfully sounding La Source
CD/SACD player, and in turn, Audio Aero received a DUO GROSSO
speaker for their demo. And though room acoustics (the booth was
built from chipboards) made life difficult in the first 2 days, their
demo also received wonderful comments finally.
MUNICH HIGH END SHOW 2010
Europes biggest and most important show has further consolidated
its already outstanding status, both nationally and internationally.
So the show organisers issued pleasant news after the show, announcing that public attendance has increased by 8% compared to
last year, and has now reached almost 15000! We could definitely
feel this in our booth, with a mostly crowded demo and lots of
interested visitors addressing to our team members.
With this show, the printed version of our new PURITY MEET
PERFORMANCE product catalogue premiered as well. And it was
nice to see, how many people instantly took their time to study it
in detail. “Classy“, “very informative“, “comprehensive“, “beautiful pictures“ were often the first comments we received. More on
the brochure also see the below article on the iF Communication
Design Award.
It was naturally the demo of the DUO MEZZO speakers that drew
most of the attention, but it was also interesting to see, how visitors reacted to the new design of the exhibit displays, which for the
first time featured the beautiful high class pictures used in our new
PURITY MEETS PERFORMANCE product catalogue.
What was originally planned to be just a design study turned out to
be actually a show stopper: the mockup of the upcoming MODEL
TWO pre amplifier. Made from MDF, to show the proportions and
the exterior design concept, it received great comments, and thus
fully served its purpose, to find out how people receive this
“muscular“ design.
Another Avantgarde Acoustic product was featured in the big
hall, by Antelope Audio, makers of fine DACs and Master Clock
equipment, who used the MODEL THREE amplifier and an ETBT
loudspeaker in a table top system for demonstrating the abilities of
their ZODIAC+ DAC.
A nice idea for displaying the available horn colors was the
wall-wide UNO horns display. Mounted to elegantly slim panels,
featuring imprinted excerpts of reviews on our speakers, 11 UNO
midrange horns were employed to show our 10 standard horn finishes and the currently most ordered custom color, Shiny Citrine
Orange.
Not a small contribution to people’s amazement with our demo: the
amplifier driving the MEZZOs was our MODEL THREE integrated
amplifier! “That’s all it takes to achieve this sound?“ was often the
question. Yes, Sir.

Die Uno ist ein kraftvolles Hochleistungssystem mit außergewöhnlicher Balance, Auflösung und Dynamik. Ihr Herzstück ist ein 500
mm großes sphärisches Mitteltonhorn. Angetrieben über unseren
5 Zoll M1 Treiber wird ein in ihrer Klasse bemerkenswert
breitbandiger Frequenzbereich bis hinab zu 300 Hz übertragen.
Oberhalb von 3 KHz arbeitet der 1 Zoll Hochtöner H1 mit einem 130
mm sphärischen Kugelwellenhorn.
Kraft ist jedoch nichts ohne Kontrolle. So wurde bei der Entwicklung der Uno besonderer Wert auf die Balance und Akkuratesse
der Signalverarbeitung gelegt. Unter Verwendung akribisch entwickelter CDC–Technologie wird der Mitteltonbereich ohne jegliche
passive Filterglieder im Signalweg ausgeführt. Das Musiksignal
wird so direkt und ohne Umwege an das Herz des Treibers geführt.
Denn weniger Komponenten bedeuten weniger Friktion und somit
ein Klangerlebnis von ungewöhnlicher Dynamik, Kraftschlüssigkeit

Der SUB225 Subwoofer komplementiert die Balance zwischen
sphärischer Leistungsfähigkeit und Tiefbass Reproduktion. Als
Antrieb dienen zwei eindrucksvolle 10 Zoll Treiber mit großem
linearen Hub. Exklusive Neodym Magneten garantieren eine
Steigerung und verbesserte Fokussierung der magnetischen
Kräfte. Endlose Kraft wird durch das „intelligente“ 250 Watt
Verstärkermodul generiert. Ein kraftvoller 330 VA Transformator
und üppige 60.000 µF Energiereserven resultieren in Mühelosigkeit, Präzision und Lebendigkeit, selbst wenn das System bis zum
Limit ausgereizt wird.
Unsere adaptive Motional–Feedback–Schaltung kompensiert durch
Schaltung und Treiber induzierte Signalabweichungen in Echtzeit.
Unabhängig von Raumgröße und Lautstärke ist somit die reine,
tiefe und dynamische Wiedergabe der Bässe gewährleistet.
Doch wie Sie bemerkt haben werden, speist sich die Überzeugungskraft der Uno nicht allein aus ihren eindrucksvollen technischen Merkmalen. Hinzu kommt eine Erscheinung, die Gradlinigkeit
und Eleganz vermittelt und zugleich von hoher Handwerkskunst
und Detailliebe zeugt. So entsteht ein Traumlautsprecher, der
selbst in kleineren Räumen die Intensität ausgewachsener
sphärischer Kugelwellenhornsysteme aufs Schönste vermittelt.

Willkommen bei der Qual der Wahl. Die Duo Grosso ist die größere
Variante der Duo Omega. Die gleiche innovative sphärische
Horn-architektur kombiniert mit einem leistungsmäßig vergößerten
SUB231 Subwoofer Modul. Die gleiche Seele, aber mit einem
anderen Temperament. Dunkler. Sportlicher. Straffer. Die
kraftvollste modulare Duo, die es je gab.
Durch den Einsatz von zwei großen 300 mm Chassis konnten die
dynamischen Bassreserven im Vergleich zur Duo praktisch
verdoppelt werden. Neodym-Magneten garantieren eine Steigerung
und eine verbesserte Fokussierung der magnetischen Kräfte.
Großartige Lautsprecher müssen souverän agieren. Sie sollen
schnell und kontrolliert dem Musiksignal folgen. Haben flink und
lebendig zu klingen. Das Sicherstellen der totalen Kontrolle, um die
Masseträgheit der Treiber zu überwinden, das ist die Voraussetzung für diese Lebendigkeit. Und genau hier übernimmt die PA107
Endstufe mit ihrer einzigartigen Motional Feedback Regelung die
volle Verantwortung. Ultraschnelle analoge Schaltungen kompensieren durch Elektronik und Treiber induzierte Signalabweichungen
in Echtzeit. Kontinuierlich, schnell und bestimmend wird die
Membran gezwungen, dem Musiksignal zu folgen.
Bei Avantgarde Acoustic steht diese totale Kontrolle im Vordergrund des wahrgenommenen Klangerlebnisses. Die volle Bandbreite mit einem Gefühl von Kraft und Reichhaltigkeit auch wenn
das System im täglichen Einsatz praktisch nur wie im Leerlauf bei
kleinen Lautstärken gefahren wird. Eine typische Eigenschaft eines
jeden Systems von Avantgarde Acoustic.
Die aktive Eingangstufe des Subwoofers beinhaltet analoge Bedienelemente für Basspegel, Übernahmefrequenz und Tiefbass–Filter.
Die feinfühlige Regelung erfolgt über Präzisions–Drehknöpfe aus
massivem, gedrehtem Aluminium.
Als Kraftquelle für die beiden Basstreiber dient der massive PA107
Endstufenblock. Dieses Aktivmodul besteht aus zwei unabhängigen
250 Watt Endstufen mit einem 560VA Ringkern Transformator
und einem üppigen Energiereservoir mit 120.000 µF für extreme
Impulsspitzen. Sie vermitteln die beruhigende Gewissheit endloser
Kraft und offensichtlicher Mühelosigkeit.
Die Duo Grosso – mit ihrem signifikant größeren Subwoofer Modul
– lässt die Zartheit und Finesse der Duo Omega mit der Dynamik,
Gewalt und Mühelosigkeit der kraftvollen 12 Zoll Doppeltreiber
verschmelzen. Fließend und ruhig. Über den Dingen stehend und

Unsere Geisteshaltung
Our products are the creations of a spirit that has been persistent over the past twenty years. But we have so far never tried to
sum up and condense this spirit in simple words, in a phrase that
“says it all“ and that fits our approach in engineering, designing,
manufacturing and marketing our products. In other words: a motto
that defines our brand.
Thus in late 2009 a communications agency initiated a workshop
in order to outline and define this spirit of Avantgarde Acoustic.
The result was a duality of talents: creativity (in how we recognise,
analyse and address a challenge) and purity (in how we simplify
the final product to “form follows function“). And as our creativity
fully serves the goal of achieving best possible performance, the
final phrase comprised these 2 expressions: purity and performance, or ultimately PURITY MEETS PERFORMANCE.
So finally all future marketing activity is developped under this
motto, comprising the website, the brochure, the exhibition displays
etc. To our delight this approach was not only appreciated by us,
but as well by one of the most respected design award jurys worldwide: the iF (international forum design) of Hannover, Germany.
Funktionalistisches Design, das sich zwingend aus dem Verwendungszweck ergibt – schlicht,
schnörkellos und ohne Alternativen. Bionische Technologie, die sich an der trichterartigen Physis
des menschlichen Ohrs orientiert und das genialste Schallwandlungsprinzip zur vollen Entfaltung
bringt – nachhaltig, präzise und unglaublich leistungsstark. Und nicht zuletzt ein puristisches
Hörerlebnis, das sich in seiner Unverfälschtheit und musikalischen Neutralität nur dem verpflichtet
fühlt, was sich im Studio oder auf dem Konzert tatsächlich abgespielt hat – ganz gleich ob Streichersonate in Moll oder Gitarrenriff in Hartmetall.

ONLINE (R)EVOLUTION
The first public outcome of the PURITY MEETS PERFORMANCE
concept was the Avantgarde Acoustic website, which has been
relaunched for the G2 series loudspeakers in March 2010, offering
a multitude of new features. Starting with a newly designed entry
page, inviting you with randomly displayed pictures of beautiful
landscapes, screen filling and without the usual product agitation.

Thomas Dolby - The Sole Inhabitant Tour
Do you remember the “Funky Mad Scientist“ from the 1980’s? The
guy who then became somewhat of a synonym for electronic pop
music, writing classics of the genre like “She blinded me with science“ and “Hyperactive“? Wait a minute, this was... this was...
Thomas Dolby! He, who has been absent for so many years,
becoming a successful business man in the mean time, has finally
returned to the stage in 2006!
His “Sole Inhabitant Tour“ was captured on a live CD and DVD. The
CD features a performance at Martyrs in Chicago, while the DVD
was filmed at the Berklee Performance Center (at Berklee College
of Music). The DVD as well includes a 30-min. interview section,
and a lecture by Dolby at the Berklee College of Music.
In the COMPANY menu, the newly created PHILOSOPHY section is
dedicated to the PURITY MEETS PERFORMANCE concept, explaining the background of this motto. While under NEWS a completely
reworked REVIEWS and AWARDS section now gives an overview
of the public recognition and worldwide appreciation achieved by
our products in the past 20 years.
The biggest change has surely been applied to the HORNS menu,
where more than 600 professional high resolution pictures are
now available to you for download in the DESIGN section of each
product, offering a multitude of color combinations, partly even
from different viewing angles. Dealers are welcome to use these
for advertisements, customers to create a wallpaper for their PC or
MAC computer screen ... :-)
First contact with this album was made at the 2008 RMAF in
Denver, when a customer requested to listen to a CD from his own
collection. What a room filling sound, what a pleasant recognition
of the music! Simply a must have for people that grew up in the
80s, and at least a wonderful document of these times for everybody else.
The album lines up Dolby’s biggest hits and chart breakers, like the
already mentioned “She blinded me with science“ and “Hyperactive“, but also the less known pieces are presented in wonderful
versions, which would never leave the impression that there is only
one single man on that stage. Yes, he is doing it all by himself. And
it’s not only pushing a button and the computer will do the rest!
He has lots of equipment around him (including some cool vintage
looking stuff), and on the DVD a kind of “helmet camera“ allows
the audience to actually see how he is triggering sounds here
and there, while playing chords on the synthesizer. His hands
swirl from one device to another and do this at the exact right
time, creating a rhythmic consistency and drive that has always
distinguished his musical style from the majority of the pop music

which arrived with us just before the Munich show. And there was
no second thinking: we had to play the vinyl version...
Sound quality in general is very good throughout, taking into account that is a live recording, it is no less than outstanding. There’s
wonderfully tight and deep bass, a nice and wide staging and lots
of detail, giving a compact and powerful “live“ feeling. Listening to
tracks 5,6, 9 and 10 may give you a good first impression on the
qualities of the recording – and of the music of course.
Soundwise the CD version is clearly the better choice, but the DVD
is still worth looking at, as it is really fascinating to see him “at
