Dans Jaime, on reconnaît d’emblée le verbe aimer. Et c’est ce qui caractérise Jaime Hayon,
artiste et designer. Mi conquistador, mi lutin, cet aventurier du design, amoureux de la vie,
traverse celle-ci avec un appétit créatif hors du commun, une empathie immédiate pour son
prochain, une vitalité qui frappe dès le premier abord. Passant d’une langue à l’autre comme
on respire, enchaînant simultanément les conversations en anglais aussi bien qu’en français,
italien ou espagnol, le tout avec une désinvolture et un naturel unique en son genre.
Jaime est un homme de son temps autant que du futur. Un mutant définitivement optimiste
équipé pour un monde qui deviendrait enfin meilleur.
Cet Almodóvar du design né à Madrid il y a trente quatre ans a une soif perpétuelle de
rencontres, d’exploration de nouveaux continents. Le paradoxe vient du mélange de ce
tempérament universel conjugué à des sources d’inspiration qui sont, elles, complètement
inspirées par la sensualité de ses origines : parfums, sons, langages, visions de son enfance
et ses racines ibériques.
Les couleurs primaires, la démesure, les formes organiques et baroques des pièces de
céramique et du mobilier, les « toys » d’inspiration « manga » version ibérique, l’imagination
vécue comme un flot permanent au bout du pinceau ou du crayon de couleur avec un talent
de dessinateur magistral.
Jaime Hayon, un être généreux de lui même et de son travail, est à l’image des rencontres
qui parsèment son vécu. Il explore, comme un ethnologue de la forme et de la matière, la
nature autant que les humains qu’il transforme à travers le prisme de ses fantasmes créatifs
exempts d’inhibitions. Carte blanche à lui-même particulièrement sensible à travers ses
scénographies qui donnent libre cours à sa démesure et à sa joie de vivre.
La récente monographie sur son travail, éditée par Gestalfen, donne une juste idée de la
profusion et de l’éclectisme de sa production.
Forme, style et couleur y sont déclinés avec une maîtrise rare, qu’il s’agisse de
collaborations avec des sociétés aussi différentes que Arquitect, Bisazza, Camper, Bosa,
Metalarte, Palluco ou Bernhardt Design avec la complicité de sa compagne, Nienke
Klunder.
Sa « Rencontre » avec Baccarat est à l’image de ce talent atypique. Exercice de style
magistral entre cristal taillé de couleur ou gravé à l’or fin et céramique métallisée, grand
écart réussi entre somptueuse transparence et opacité satinée. Une édition limitée de pièces
monumentales où l’humour de Hayon relativise l’importance de sa création : ce « Crystal
Candy Set » est à consommer sans modération, douceurs d’exception qui inscrivent à
nouveau Baccarat dans un élan de création hors du commun.

In Jaime, you can almost hear the word “gem.” And that’s a good way to characterize
artist and designer Jaime Hayon. Half-conquistador, half-imp, this adventurer of design
embraces life with an extraordinary creative zest, an immediate empathy for his nearest
and dearest, and an infectious vitality. Skipping from one language to another in a
heartbeat, he simultaneously chats in English as well as French, Italian and Spanish, all
with a singular nonchalance and ease.
Jaime is a man of the present and the future, a decidedly optimistic mutant, equipped for

Born in Madrid thirty years ago, this Almodóvar of design is on a ceaseless quest for
encounters and new lands. The paradox arises from the overlap of this free-wheeling
spirit and his inspirations, drawn entirely from the sensuality of his background:
fragrances, sounds, languages, visions of childhood and his Iberian roots.
The primary colors, the excess, the organic baroque shapes of the furniture and ceramics,
the manga-meets-Iberia “toys”: his imagination flows as freely as a stream from the tip
of a colored pencil or brush with the talent of a master draftsman.

Jaime Hayon is a generous artist, and his work distills everything that has crossed his
path. Like an ethnologist of shape and material, he explores nature and people in equal
measure, transforming them though the prism of his unbridled flights of creativity—his
free spirit radiates most brilliantly in the scenographies that fully express his exuberance
and joie de vivre.
The recent monograph on his work, published by Gestalfen, captures the full range of his
prolific and eclectic work.
Form, style and color are deployed with a rare mastery, whether in his partnerships with
companies as diverse as Arquitect, Bisazza, Camper, Bosa, Metalarte, Palluco or
Bernhardt Design, with the collaboration of his companion, Nienke Klunder.

undertaking between colored cut crystal or pieces engraved with gold and metallic
