I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. My soul will boast in the Lord; let
the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together. Psalm 34: 1-3
Welcome to July! 2016 is already more than halfway over! It seems like only a month ago Gail
Sharman was planning the community Thanksgiving dinner and the confirmands were making their
Chrismons to decorate the church Christmas tree. Since then we have enjoyed the United Methodist
Men’s Pancake Day, sacking a million pounds of potatoes, and you have dressed up to have your
picture taken for the pictorial directory along with many other activities at the church! Then, there
are your other activities outside of the church: school, family gatherings, doctor appointments, baseball
games, our jobs, and the Peach Festival. Life happens so fast. I am very grateful that our church and
our community are so active and full of positive events and resources to fill our lives.
In the midst of our busy lives, we occasionally experience moments of silence for reflection. In these
moments it becomes crystal clear how good life is. We can see how wonderful our families truly are,
how precious our lives are, or those times when a person has extended the gift of friendship to us in a
way that leaves us without words.
For the last three years our church has produced a devotional book. This year, as your life is
happening, I would like to ask you to: Be conscious of how good your life is. Try to be more aware of
how God is blessing your life. And then, please write it down and share with us, so that we all may be
blessed and our eyes (also) may be opened to how good life really is. It is my prayer that these
moments may be obvious to you at your job, during a football game, Soup Day, during your
Thanksgiving dinner or during the many daily activities that we experience.
Please send it in as soon as you finish writing it. Each devotion should be a thousand words or less,
and if you would like to tell it to me, I would be happy to type it for you. Please also include a prayer
at the end. If you have questions, please email at [email protected] or call at (205)
755-0490.
I am very excited to hear your stories and how you are able to see God in your life. We all want to be
closer to him, know more about him, and hopefully we too will be able to feel his presence.
May God bless you and I pray you tell us about it!

Christ’s Closet
August 6 will be the 3rd Annual Christ’s Closet.
Each year, FUMC opens its doors for families in
the community that are looking for a little relief
and help with their children’s back to school
clothes. Clanton FUMC is accepting donations
of clothes and accessories for Christ’s Closet.
Clothes of all sizes are needed for every school
age. Bring to the church anytime. Thank you!

UPDATE:WATER 282
In 2012 Clanton FUMC raised enough money to drill
three drinking wells in Zambia, Africa. Since then
“our villages” of Mandanga, Simukali and Mazuka
have experienced a better quality of life.
Richard Nkhowa of Mandanga is 60 years old and tells
that the borehole at Mandanga is benefiting the
community in several ways. In the past people would
barely perform basic task requiring water such as
bathing because they did not have enough water to
fufill their water needs. Nkhowa found it difficult to
fetch enough water for his basic water need due to his
old age. He says prior to the borehole he would be the
last person get water for use in the village because
youthful and strong members of the village had an
equal need for water to meet their needs. Nkhowa is
happy with his life now and wishes to live longer
because he has access to the most essential
commodity on earth, safe, clean water. Nkhowa can
now easily access water for his basic water needs
such as bathing, cooking, washing, and cleaning the
house. He testifies that water is indeed life!
