The Sault Ste. Marie Festivals & Events Network officially formed in the
fall of 2004. Tourism Sault Ste. Marie and the private sector tourism
partners understand the importance of festivals and events and the
opportunities that exist to attract tourists to Sault Ste. Marie on a yearround basis.
The goal of the Sault Ste. Marie Festivals & Events Network build on
providing guidance in areas of research, development and marketing to
enhance ability to grow and attract non-resident participants.
Our vision is to support existing and develop new festivals & events in
the Sault Ste. Marie area by providing a range of programs and services
to support festivals and events goals, while acting as a centralized
resource for festivals and events within the tourism industry.
The Sault Ste. Marie Festivals & Events Network is supported by
Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, a division of the Sault Ste. Marie Economic
Development Corporation dedicated to providing support, presenting
a united voice, and creating an effective networking environment for
festival and events members to operate more effectively.

Passport to Unity

‘Passport to Unity’ is an annual festival which celebrates our
community’s diverse cultures and traditions. The event brings
together the many local cultural groups, performers, artists,
individuals and families while also welcoming newcomers to the
city of Sault Ste. Marie. Through performance, food and creative
displays, ‘Passport to Unity’ captures and celebrates the vast
traditions, backgrounds and countries of origin that make up the
cultural mosaic of our community. This festival takes places at the
Essar Centre and will be sure to engage and delight both young and
old. The event is hosted by NEW TO THE SAULT© and The Sault
Community Career Centre, funded by Employment Ontario.

Music in the Park
June 16 - August 25, 2010
The Soo Locks Park in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan will be hosting the
13th Annual Music in the Park Summer Concert Series every Wednesday
evening at 7pm. This concert series begins June 16, 2010 and runs
through August 25, 2010. Entry is free to the public.

Echoes of the World International Drum Festival

2, the Parade of Tugs departs from the Purvis Dock at 6:30 pm and can be
viewed from both the US and Canadian Locks from 7:00pm to 9:00 pm.

Arts at the Dock

Tall Ships: HMS Bounty & Pride of Baltimore II

Sault Ste. Marie is excited to welcome two of the majestic Tall Ships
taking part in the Great Lakes United TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE®
2010, a port-to-port tall ships race series. The ships will be sailing
the world’s second largest source of fresh surface water. As the
vessels race from port to port, they will help Great Lakes United bring
a message of conservation and preservation to the millions of people
who will travel to see the tall ships. Over 42 million people live within
an hour of the Great Lakes watershed. Throughout this summer,
the Great Lakes United TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® 2010 will carry
a message of freshwater conservation in celebration of waters
worth protecting.
The Great Lakes are a fragile ecosystem. Despite their immensity, they
are especially vulnerable to degradation. These tall ships represent
one of the most sustainable forms of transportation, making this one
of the most environmentally friendly races on the planet. Coming into
Sault Ste. Marie, the Tall Ships will carry a message of freshwater
conservation in celebration of waters worth protecting.

Downtown Sidewalk Sales & Antique Car Show
August 6 & 7, 2010
Ashmun Street in Downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, will host the
Annual Downtown Sidewalk Sales with craft vendors August 6th and

Buskerfest
August 6 - 8, 2010
The weekend of August 6, 7, and 8 has been reserved to delight
young and old alike with Buskerfest 2010; Sault Ste. Marie’s most
original and fastest growing community oriented festival. The
performers, in conjunction with volunteers from the Sault Youth
Association will have Queen Street (between East and Brock) closed
to traffic but open to everything else as they present their distinctive
talents right on the street.

Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum
9th Annual Whitefish Boil

The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum is holding its 9th annual Fish
Boil. Festivities run from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. Entertainment provided by

War of 1812 Rendezvous & Fur Trade Celebration
September 24 - 26, 2010
During this event you will be able to step back into the Fur Trade
Era during the period of the War of 1812. Here you will be able to
experience a British Soldier Militia Muster, cannon demonstration,
Coureur de Bois Encampment, participate in Voyageur games. This
event will be held at the Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site,

Group of Seven Train Event: Art of JEH MacDonald
September 25 & 26, 2010
The Coalition for Algoma Passenger Trains and Searchmont Resort
invite you to celebrate the 92nd Anniversary of the Group of Seven
painting along the Algoma Central Railway. This all-day event
includes a scenic train ride from Sault Ste. Marie to Searchmont
Resort which travels through a spectacular display of fall colours;
art workshops in oil/acrylic, watercolor, sketching, Aboriginal art and
photography; nature walks; Group of Seven reproductions display;
presentations about J.E.H. MacDonald by his grand-niece Susan
MacDonald; musical entertainment and a gourmet lunch! There will
also be a second day option to travel from Searchmont by coach
along Lake Superior to Wawa, where the participants will stay
overnight and ride the train back to the Sault from Hawk Junction
while listening to commentary about the locations where the Group
of Seven painted.

Edmund Fitzgerald Memorial Ceremony

Held at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, Whitefish Point at
7 p.m. Call the Last Watch Ceremony. Where special guests ring the
Fitzgerald’s bell 29 times in remembrance of each crewman lost with
the Fitzgerald, with a 30th ring to remember all the Mariner’s lost on

Festival of Trees

Gathering at the Rapids - Community Pow-Wow

throughout the Sault to organize this large community Pow Wow to

Shadows of the Mind Film Festival
Winter 2011
The 12th annual Shadows of the Mind Film Festival will be held
at the Galaxy Cinemas in the Station Mall in either February or

The 2012 CARHA Hockey World Cup
March 4 - 11, 2012
A representation of the largest adult recreational hockey tournament in
the world, between 19 – 70 years of age. This event happens only every
4 years with the past host cities being: Toronto 1996, Vancouver 2000,
Ottawa 2004 and Quebec City 2008. It will be the single largest sporting
event ever held in Northern Ontario, not just in Sault Ste. Marie. 125
teams with Approx. 2,500 participants are anticipated to attend from
10 countries such as Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy,
Latvia, Norway, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, USA and
Canada. When they are not playing hockey they will be able to chose
from an itinerary off additional games and experiences including: Skiing,
Basketball, Indoor Soccer, Athletes Village, Casino Theme Nights and
other themed cultural evenings featuring ethnic foods and entertainment.
