New York Documentary Film Crew captures the inspired music of
Zbigniew Seifert at The Jazz Factory, Friday March 7, sets at 7:30pm & 9pm
After completing the first phase of filming in Europe, the production team of
H Over Walking Y travels to Louisville, KY to continue the story ...
“Passion”
American jazz violinist and composer Zach Brock discovered a posthumous recording of
Polish jazz violinist and composer Zbigniew Seifert six years ago by chance in a used
record store.
The record was entitled “Passion.”
This discovery forever changed his conception of jazz.
Brock has learned everything he can about Seifert through liner notes and interviews with
jazz giants John Scofield, Jack DeJohnette, and Richie Beirach, all of whom played with
Seifert on his last album.
Brock’s urge to learn more about the obscure violinist soon led him to Poland where he
retraced Seifert’s steps and interviewed those who knew and loved “Zbiggy.” Musicians
and family from across the globe came together to commemorate Seifert and reconstruct
his musical legacy.
Now, inspired by this life changing journey, Brock performs and prepares for a recording
with his new band, “Arrival/Departure”, which includes Polish vocal sensation Grazyna
Auguscik and legendary guitarist John McLean, as well as three rising stars of jazz: pianist
Sam Barsh, bassist Matt Ulery, and drummer Jon Deitemyer. Original compositions and
arrangements inspired by Seifert’s story and music will debut at
The Jazz Factory on Friday, March 7, with sets at 7:30pm and 9pm. Tickets are $12.50.
This concert will be filmed as part of the documentary.
Call (502) 992-3242 or go to www.jazzfactory.us to purchase tickets in advance.
“Passion” is a double odyssey that follows Seifert’s musical journey, tragically cut short by
cancer at the age of 32, and Brock’s own musical journey—himself, age 33—both men
linked by a mutual desire to express the sound of post-Coltrane jazz on the violin.
