Did you know?
Banks CANNOT stop payments on debit card transactions.
So, remember if you authorize a payment using your debit card and you want
to cancel it, you will be required to contact the merchant/company directly to
cancel the transaction. As always, protect your debit card from unauthorized
users and NEVER give your card or card numbers to others to use. 2

SUMMER 2016
Words of Wisdom
FBW President Chris Davis fills you in
on modern banking and security.
Still haven't gone digital with your finances?
The Farmers Bank of Willards' new banking
technologies make managing your finances
easier than ever. It’s time to stop living in the
past and finally embrace the idea of mobile
money management as well as in person, face
to face, branch banking. Imagine all the time
and energy you could save by switching your
banking habits; For example, instead of relying
on the branch to find out your account
balances, you can check your balance
anywhere, anytime using a smartphone or
tablet with our new mobile app or online
banking. If funds are low, you can even transfer
money between your accounts or to another
individual. Do you have stacks of receipts or
statements piling up at home? Opt into EStatements. E-Statements are more secure than
traditional paper statements since they don't
travel to your mailbox, plus they can be
accessed anywhere. Are you still writing checks
and mailing them off? Save your stamps for
other letters and avoid late fees by setting up
automatic bill payments for recurring expenses.
You can easily schedule payments to be
automatically deducted every month through
“Modern Banking is Mobile Banking”
online banking. And finally, you don't have to
wait to deposit your checks anymore. No matter
where you are, you can deposit checks in a snap
and make a mobile deposit through our bank’s
mobile app. It’s the perfect fix when you find
yourself unable to visit a branch or just prefer
making a deposit without taking a trip in the
car. Please take advantage of the FREE money
management tools available at the Farmers
Bank. You may never go back to the old way
and you will love our new app, features,
flexibility, and ease of use. Our staff is well
trained in all of our new tech-tools and they
can’t wait to show you how to make banking
life easier.

SUMMER 2016
Banks and Fin-Techs
If nothing else, the recent proliferation of “Fin-Tech" start ups has made bankers look in the
mirror and ask how we can make our customers' banking experience easier while maintaining a
safe, secure, and seamless banking environment.
According to recent research, online lenders originated $22 billion in United States
consumer and business loans in 2015. While that was just 6% of the total volume for such loans,
that sector is expected to grow as much as 75% in 2016. Over the next five years, banks throughout
the country stand to lose much of the student, consumer, and individual mortgage loan business to
these "computer lenders" if banks do not keep up with technology. The Farmers Bank is committed
to doing just that. On the payments front, a similar dynamic has emerged. Online payments have been led by
companies such as PayPal or Strype; mobile payments by Venmo, Starbucks, and similar retail
apps. In mobile apps, banks have improved their self service channels. Research confirms that in
late June, Chase, Bank of America, PayPal, Wells Fargo, and Credit Karma were the top five apps
in the Apple Store. The Fin-Tech phenomenon is more of an opportunity for the Farmers Bank than it is a threat.
It has brought back a sense of purpose that the fundamentals of community banking were created
on. A bank’s purpose is to help customers and their families navigate their financial needs and
allow them to take control of their finances. Here at the Farmers Bank of Willards, we live and
breathe that mantra along with the promise of extraordinary customer service. We
are staying relevant by offering our state-of-the-art mobile apps, online banking, and
as always the friendly local branches for all of your banking needs. Thank you for
being a loyal customer and we look forward to serving you for many years to come. DO YOU HAVE A SAVINGS STRATEGY?
It’s good to sit down and create a financial vision of where you want to be in a year, five years,
or even ten years and beyond. One thing to ask yourself is how much money will it take?
Consider your lifestyle and do your best to set goals, either on paper or in an electronic file.
In general, there are three savings categories: Emergency Savings Fund- this account should
have enough to pay for at least three to six months of living expenses, should you need it.
Short to mid-term savings should you want to purchase a home and need a downpayment.
Long-term savings such as retirement savings. Be sure to enroll in your employer’s retirement
benefit plan if available and try to maximize any matching contributions if possible.
At the Farmers Bank of Willards we look forward to helping you through the many stages of
your life, from your first checking account to your retirement account. Let us know how we may
assist you today.
