God
GODS!
THE
elieving in one god or another has mostly dictated the
evolution of our world. Humanity at large has promoted the
idea of moral good divinity, and a flip side portrayed by wicked
deity. Though there may have been many gods working on
the same side in certain cultures or moments in history (regardless their
numbers), they’ve always teamed up on either side of the moral court,
debating their principles and ideologies… and sometimes beating each
other to death, or almost to death... because they all knew that without
both squads, there would not be any game at all.
The gods’ matches have captured audiences from all walks, immersing in it
eagerly and fervently, and structuring endless debates over the philosophies
of those idols and about the mystery of their heavens and hells. But this is
the playground of theologians, and I don't intend to go there. Still, I cannot
help sympathizing with those poor gods who were invented, brought to the
game, and assigned for different tournaments. They've been worshiped and
praised passionately when they scored; they were blamed, condemned, and
perhaps fired when they lost a season or two successively.
No offense is intended here to any culture or belief, but I'm searching for my
own convenient god to help me solve the dilemma of all those gods. I joined the
crowd on my quest. I hailed the sun god... I cheered the tree god... I appalled
to the multiple head gods... I antagonized the ruthless ones – those were many
and they changed sides all the time, depending on how they saw good and bad,
and whether they had a good night sleep or not.
Grouchy or sweet, when they are in their locker room – or in an unknown
dimension – those gods seem to be crying/laughing at our idiocy and our inept
clash. Perhaps in their solitude they ridicule us for killing each other in their
names or over some absurd remarks. Or probably in their seclusion we become
the player and they the spectators…. But to me, my favorite speculation about
what goes on behind those imaginary locker walls is that they all kneel down for
a warm-up meditation, grieve for the world that has gone mad, and pray for the
delusional men who have been victimizing all gods, to embrace humanity - a simple
path to the Almighty God.

JENNIFER ANISTON
gets into stripper shape
Q
She is one of our favorite 'friends'... Jennifer Aniston has a body to
die for, and at the age of 44, it's amazing that she could pull off playing a stripper in her latest film, We're the Millers. Getting her body
into ultimate form to play this role was no easy task; she admits to
an "uphill battle" after going through knee surgery just two months
before starting the filming of this latest flick.
uote
"I actually had also just come out, about two months prior, [of]
having knee surgery. I was having to do these intense squats and,
you know…the moves that you do when you're stripping," Aniston
said.
"It was pretty intense—I had a knee brace on the whole time until
I shot it," she added.

So what did she do to get her body into stripper mode? She hired a
qualified personal trainer to put her on the right track!
"It was challenging—I did yoga and I worked out with this trainer
that was an animal," she said. "I was doing things [where] I was like,
‘I don't want to do that ever again.'"
The
Burberry Trench
Coat is the "it" item
of the pre-fall 2013 season.
Jennifer Aniston, Emma Stone,
and Sienna Miller are just a few of
the many celebrities wearing their
favorite trench.
American actress Jennifer Aniston
wore Burberry on the set of her
new film Squirrel to the Nuts
in New York on Monday,
July 29th, 2013.
And what about stripping down to the bone in front of an entire
production crew?
"I did stupid things," she said, referring to protecting her parts during the routines. "I layered my underwear, I had three thongs…
three bras. I mean if something's gonna fly out at that point, three
of 'em aren't gonna stop it," she said, adding, "It's not easy to get
naked in front of other people that you don't want to be naked in
front of, so I commend all you strippers!"
"Honestly, it was the craziest workout," she said. "My diet has always been pretty clean, but I think I was super, super strict, especially in terms of, I'll usually cheat once or twice a week and I just
kind of didn't."
COUNTING YOUR STEPS
TO SUCCESS!
It's time to count your daily steps towards your fitness goal! If you
habitually take note as to how far you walk on a daily basis, chances
are you will up your activity level before you know it. Those who
wore pedometers walked 15% more and marked down their daily
steps in a journal compared to those who didn't track their progress... according to a study in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise. So....head on over to your local sports store and get yourself
a pedometer. The key is to start keeping track of your daily steps.
Attempt 10,000 steps per day. And work your way up slowly if you
are only half way there! Add 500 extra steps per day until you reach
your fitness goal. You can do it!!!

LOPEZ
FINALLY GETS HER STAR
IMPORTANT TIPS FOR
STAYING SLIM
Jennifer Lopez has officially become a part of Hollywood glam history. Our favorite singer/actress has finally received her star on Hollywood Blvd.'s Walk of Fame - it's about time, isn't it? JayLo was
dressed to the nines as she posed with a super white smile next to
her star in a long salmon colored skirt and tight white top.
1. To lose approximately 4-5kg of body fat in a year... you need to
consume 100 calories less per day. This is the smart way to go to
keep weight off permanently.
2. Don't skip breakfast - no matter what! You should aim to eat
within two hours of waking up.
"Me and my STAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Proud little girl from the Bronx.
#surreal #blessed," Lopez posted with a photo of her down on the
sidewalk next to her famous name.
3. Interestingly enough, it has been said that you should eat more
breakfast than you think you should. Add some extra calories in the
am...but reduce them at your meal in the pm.
Earlier that same day, Jenn tweeted: "Today is only possible b/c of
my family, friends & fans. I'd LOVE if u could be a part of this celebration w me live!"
4. Keep hunger at bay by eating at least every four hours.
5. Consume 'at least' 3 kinds of food at each meal: breads, cereals,
and grains; fruits and vegetables; low-fat dairy and soy; and lean
meats, fish, and nuts.
ELIE SAAB DRESSES JENNIFER LOPEZ
Always dressed to kill... Jennifer Lopez attended the Viva Movil store
opening wearing a white short sleeve flare cocktail dress with lace
bodice from the ELIE SAAB Pre-Fall 2013 Ready-to-Wear collection.
6. Go for gradual body fat loss.
7. Be careful in regards to your liquid calorie intake. Reduce your
consumption of sodas, juice, sports drinks, coffee drinks, and alcohol.
8. Go for whole foods: enjoy fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
Avoid processed foods as much as possible.
9. If you are obliged to eat in a fast food chain...avoid anything on
the menu that mentions special sauce, fried, or crispy!
10. Keep in mind that sports concoctions and energy bars can have
BEAUTY MISTAKES 101:
WHAT NOT TO DO!
1. Do not purchase a foundation product darker than your skin
tone! It will look like you are wearing a mask.
2. Do not forget to use a base coat before putting on your red nail
polish...nobody likes yellow nails!
3. Do not get tweezer happy in front of the mirror! You need to
keep your eyebrows visible.
4. Do not wear your young daughters hair clips please! You can't
turn back the hands of time.
5. Don't buy waterproof mascara...and forget to buy waterproof
eye makeup remover.
6. Do not over spray yourself with perfume. Just because YOU like
the scent...doesn't mean everyone else does.
7. Do not spray your hair with so much hairspray that a tornado
couldn't push it out of place.
8. Avoid applying too much under eye concealer...you're trying to
hide your dark circles...not attract attention to white circles.
9. Do not touch and pick at your face throughout the day! You will
probably break out in pimples.
10. Don't wear a bright or dark colored lipstick to the gym for goodness sakes!

plenty of calories too - use them wisely.
Could it be...could it be...could it possibly
be? This is what researchers are telling us!
While many studies have shown that fatty
fish is good for our heart health, now we
are told that it might also help to prevent
rheumatoid arthritis. This is good news for
everyone!
RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS
PREVENTED WITH FATTY FISH??
Consuming a weekly serving of a fatty fish
such as salmon might cut the risk of developing this debilitating disease by half according to a study published in the Annals
of the Rheumatic Diseases.
Researchers reviewed the diets of 32,000
Swedish women who filled out two food
questionnaires, one in the late 80's and another ten years later. The women who ate
at least one serving of fatty fish regularly
each week for about ten years developed
rheumatoid arthritis at half the rate of the
women who ate very little fish or none at
all. Researchers speculate that omega-3
fatty acids had a protective anti-inflammatory effect on the immune systems of the
women who ate more of the fish.

WANT TO GET CRACKING?
SO HOW MANY EGGS
SHOULD YOU CONSUME?
You are dying for a delicious omelet - but aren't eggs high in cholesterol? And how many can you or should you actually consume?
Nutritionists are going a little 'over easy' on their advice when
it comes to eggs...Way back in the day, dieticians used to advise
people with heart disease to stay away from eggs. Nowadays, they
aren't so firm. While each individual needs to consult their physician
or dietician to determine what is suitable for them, generally, up to
four eggs per week seems to be ok. A large sized egg has approximately 186 mg of cholesterol. So basically, we all need to consume
our eggs within reason. And don't forget: the manner in which your
prepare them is also important. Opt for boiling, poaching, or pan
frying with a little cooking spray to keep your eggs healthy. Why not
go for an all white omelet and stay clear from the cholesterol ridden
yolk if you want to stay on the safe side?!
UH-OH! ARE YOU SLOWING DOWN YOUR METABOLISM?
KEEPING YOUR METABOLISM UP AND PUMPING IS NECESSARY TO
MAINTAIN YOUR WEIGHT AND AVOID FLUCTUATIONS! BUT ARE THERE
CERTAIN THINGS YOU SHOULD AVOID IN ORDER NOT TO GET IN ITS
WAY? YES...AND HERE IS THE SCOOP BELOW:
DOES YOUR HOME NEED
FRESHENING UP?
AIR FRESHENERS AND SCENTED CANDLES ARE SOOOO 'LAST YEAR.'
KEEP POLLUTANTS AT A LOW IN YOUR HOME BY GOING THE NATURAL
ROUTE WHEN IT COMES TO A GREAT SMELLING ABODE.
SO WHERE SHOULD WE START?
• LET'S DECLUTTER THE AIR: Start off by saying NO to smoking
in the home. Then, you can avoid aerosol products to keep your
air clean and fresh. If you have a pet, control odors by grooming
outdoors.
• COMBAT POLLUTION: We are talking about INDOOR pollution!
Levels can often be worse than outside...So, to clear the indoor air
of odors and toxins, open a window for at least a half an hour daily.
• GET OUT SOME BS: Baking soda is your friend when it comes
to absorbing nasty odors. This kitchen item is great for soaking up
odors in your fridge, in your closets, and even in your garbage can.
• GO FOR LEMONY FRESH: Combat odors and dryness in your
home with a pot full of boiling water loaded with fragrant items.
Throw in some vanilla, lemon halves, some orange peels, and even
a stick of cinnamon to spice up your home wonderfully.
• BAKE LIKE YOU MEAN IT: Homemade bread...cinnamon buns...
cookies...all aromas that will make your home smell sweet and welcoming. Don't have the patience? Bake some pears and apples with
a drizzle of red wine...divine!
1. Stick to a regular eating schedule to not to throw off your metabolism. Eating sporadically simply gets in its way.
2. Avoid pesticides like the plague and opt for organic produce as
often as you can. A regular ingestion of unwanted pesticides can
affect your metabolism and throw it off.
3. Don't skimp on your hours of sleep! The less you sleep, the less
you tend to move and exercise the following day. This of course
results in the slowing down of your metabolism.
4. Keep iron levels up to par during your menstruation cycle. This
will aid you in keeping up your much needed energy to move your
butt and keep your metabolism functioning effectively.
5. No crash diets allowed! When you cut back drastically on calories,
your body goes into starvation mode...your good old metabolism
basically slows down like a snail.
6. Your desk job might be to blame for your sluggish metabolism,
but you can be proactive. Get up and move every 20 minutes and
you should be good to go.
7. Traveling? Get a grip on your jet lag to help your metabolism stay
on track.
8. Calcium is your friend when it comes to fat metabolism. Opt for
calcium rich foods that are low in calories.
9. Maintain hydration levels to keep your metabolism working like it
should. Drink sufficient H2O!
10. A final point...kick start your metabolism each and every day
with a hearty but healthy breakfast.

5 SECRETS TO AN
EFFECTIVE WORKOUT
1. IT'S OK TO GO LIGHT: Light weights with sufficient repetitions
can give you the workout you need. You don't always have to go
for the heavy guys.
2. GO FOR COLD: Carrying a cold water bottle in your hand as you
exercise outside in the heat could help you fight fatigue and last
longer.
3. SIP SOME CAFFEINE: A recent study revealed that participants
who ingested a caffeinated drink before weight lifting were able to
do more before they were fatigued.
4. SET IT TO TUNES: Music has a way of making your body move
effectively. Get out your playlist of favorite tunes in order and work
out with all of your might.
5. KILL IT FOR A MINUTE: No need to exercise for hours on end...
recent studies show that just one minute of mind blowing exercise
followed by one minute of recovery can do your physique wonders.
Repeat 10 times and in a few weeks the evidence will be revealed.

BREAST CANCER
PREVENTION:
BE PROACTIVE!
LET'S TAKE A TRIP
AROUND THE WORLD TO SEE HOW
OTHER CULTURES STAY ON A HEALTHY TRACK...
JAPAN: Obesity rates in Japan are among the lowest in the world.
Just 4% of the population is considered obese. The Japanese follow
a philosophy called hara hachi bunme. This involves halting eating
when you are 80% full! It's all about learning more about the body
and its cues. In addition, using chopsticks aids in taking smaller
bites... not the mention that the Japanese serve their meals on
many individual plates so that flavors do not mix together.
CHINA: The traditional Chinese diet includes many healthy ele-
ments; common ingredients include rice, veggies, and soy based
foods. Steaming meats and vegetables is common practice in addition to cooking in woks.
Garlic is also a common staple in Chinese cooking; it is rich in allicin, a compound that has antibacterial and antioxidant properties.
Green tea is their beverage of choice usually...healthy all the way!
FRANCE: Our French friends win when it comes to food philosophy. The French believe that food is to nourish the body, mind, and
soul. At dinner time, the French spend lengthy amounts of time
sharing food and spending hours with family and friends; they definitely do not wolf down their food! They know it's important to
take it easy and listen to the body's cues as well.
THE MEDITERRANEAN: The Mediterranean diet is boasted as
one of the healthiest in the world...thanks to its nutrient-rich properties. With plenty of fruits, veggies, pasta, rice, beans, legumes,
and fish involved in the mix, it's a win-win for all. Whole grains and
olive oil are never missed...super healthy to say the very least. The
Mediterranean lifestyle also aids in our quest for good health...with
afternoon naps and social gatherings always on the menu.
SWEDEN: Swedes love their milk! They drink about 340 kgs per
year which seems to be doing their physiques good. They manage
to keep their bones strong and healthy while maintaining a low
fat diet. With their traditional smorgasbord, a variety of items are
routinely enjoyed...meats, salads, pickled foods, etc. Numerous nutrients are absorbed and various tastes and textures are enjoyed.
Swedes generally rely on local foods rather than processed items...
good news for all!

• If you notice any discharge from the nipples, or firm lumps or
painful areas in one or both of your breasts, visit your physician.
• Eat a healthy and balanced diet with plenty of fresh and colorful
vegetables.
• Study your family history of diseases on both sides of the family.
If breast cancer runs in your family, talk to your doctor about mammograms, even at a younger age.
• Question your physician about taking a BRCA 1 and 2 gene mutation test.
• Always get a second opinion and always ask plenty of questions.
The more you know the more powerful you are.
HEALTHY
FOOD HABITS
FROM AROUND THE GLOBE
CAN YOU HAVE
"DIGITAL DEMENTIA"?
Most of us are familiar with the term dementia, a disease that usually afflicts senior citizens. Well, there is a new type of dementia on
the rise within the younger generation; digital dementia is hitting
young people in their teens and 20's.
A study from South Korea found that those who depend greatly on
technology can suffer a deterioration in cognitive abilities. One of
the reasons that young people are suffering from issues such as a
poor short term memory is because they do not need to remember
or memorize critical information anymore. Most rely on technology
to retrieve data rather than storing it in our memories.
The good news is that digital dementia is probably not a permanent
condition...however, time will certainly tell. In the meantime, take
the time to work on your memory and thinking skills. Oh, and don't
forget to have a few face to face conversations with other humans
rather than relying on social media. In addition to that, read an actual book from time to time rather than staring at a computer screen
all day. Use it or lose it people - work out that muscle between your
ears for the sake of your sanity!
'DIG IN'RUNNINGENTHUSIASTS...
BIG ON RUNNING? WELL HERE WE HAVE A LIST OF FANTASTIC FOODS YOU SHOULD BE
INGESTING. IT'S ALL ABOUT GOOD FUEL PEOPLE...AND WE ARE TALKING PROPER CALORIES, SUFFICIENT CARBS, AND NECESSARY PROTEIN...
LET'S TALK WHOLE FOODS, SHALL WE?
WHOLE GRAINS: Think quality carbs. Put
away the white pasta and go for brown or
black rice instead. Even quinoa is a great
option, offering you a complete protein.
The high fiber content of your whole grains
will also help you to maintain a good digestive system.
GOOD QUALITY LEAN BEEF: Beef can
be a good choice for protein, helping you
with growth and recovery of the muscles.
Female runners get an extra boost with
getting a good source of iron too. Post
workout...whip up a healthy stir fry.
EGGS: A great protein provider, eggs get
the job done. One hard-boiled egg can pack
6 grams of protein, offering you other nutrients to boot. Choline plays a key role in
aiding your brain to move your body...especially running. It also reduces inflammation!
YOGURT: Calcium and protein in a little
bowl with a spoon! Live bacteria helps runners get their gut into shape - keeping in
mind to stick to low fat versions. Good bacteria helps keep the bad stuff out.
ALMONDS: These nuts provide you with
some super vitamin E...just what you need
when you want to pound the pavement
and boost your immune system. Almonds
and their other nutty friends are often
called the sources of healthy, high performance fats.

COSMIC AND HUMAN COLOUR RAYS
By | Dr. Joseph B. Majdalani (J.B.M.)
FOCUS: THE HIDDEN DRIVER
OF EXCELLENCE
By | Daniel Goleman
From the New York
Times bestselling author
of The Sandcastle Girls
and Midwives comes a
mesmerizing novel of love,
misery, and revenge, set
in war-ravaged Tuscany.
Brighid Moret from
The Washington Times
describes it as “masterfully
crafted…a near perfect
blend of historical fiction,
mystery, and suspense.”
This book is one of Oprah
magazine’s “Ten Titles To
Pick Up Right Now.”
Very few have written about the science of
colors, the role colors play in one’s selfknowledge, their influence on personality,
inquiring into their relationship and effect
on daily life, or investigating their role
in self-evolution. This book unveils the
significance of colours in the human psyche,
their symbols, their relation to the cosmic
rays and life vibrations, all of which are
reflected in the aura, that electro-magnetic
field surrounding man’s physical body. How
do colour rays interact in this field? How do
they affect and are in turn affected by man’s
behavior? Colours are the language of the
esoteric side in man and its nutrition, alike
the food as nourishment for the body.
In his book, psychologist and
journalist Daniel Goleman,
author of the #1 international
bestseller Emotional
Intelligence (EQ), provides a
revolutionary look at today’s
scarcest resource and the
secret to high performance
and achievement: FOCUS.
Merging advanced research
with realistic findings, the
book explores the science of
attention in all its varieties
presenting a long discussion
of this under-rated and littlenoticed mental asset.

THE SECRETARY: A JOURNEY WITH HILLARY CLINTON
FROM BEIRUT TO THE HEART OF AMERICAN POWER
By | Kim Ghattas
In November 2008, Hillary Clinton
decided to work for her former
opponent. As President Obama’s
Secretary of State, she started to
repair America’s image around the
world and her own as well. BBC foreign
correspondent Kim Ghattas had supreme
access to Clinton and her associates;
thus, she weaves a riveting account of life
on tour with Clinton in her book. Viewed
through the author’s vantage point as
a half-Lebanese, half-Dutch citizen who
grew up during Lebanese civil war, The
Secretary is also her own voyage as she
looks for answers of the questions that
haunted her childhood.

SHE REFLECT UPON THE
CRITICAL NEED FOR A NEW
MASCULINITY IN THESE
TIMES OF UPRISING AND
TRANSFORMATION IN THE

THE EARLY
DAYS…
WHERE DID YOU GO TO SCHOOL
AND WHAT DID YOU STUDY?
I did all my studies in Lebanon. I never left
to live abroad; my parents couldn’t afford
it. First I went to medical school - but I left
after two years of misery - and went on
to obtain a bachelor’s degree in biology.
Later, after both my kids were born, I
started all over again and got my Master's
in translation and comparative literature,
and now I am preparing my PHD. I also
studied languages on the side and got a
teaching degree in Italian language.
WHAT KIND OF CHILD WERE
YOU?
A quiet volcano preparing its eruption.
WHAT DID YOU DREAM OF
BECOMING?
First an astronaut, then a writer... which
is very much the same: Both aim high, risk
a lot, and navigate the universe at zero
gravity.
HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO
MASTER 7 LANGUAGES?
I grew up speaking four (Arabic and
Armenian at home, French and English
at school) which made the rest (Italian,
Spanish, and German) rather easy to
acquire. I am in love with languages. I wish
I had the time to learn more.
IN THE MEDIA
EYE…
HOW DID YOUR CAREER START
OFF?
I started as a translator at An Nahar
newspaper in 1997, then moved on to
write for the cultural supplement, and
finally became the head of the cultural
section in 2005, which I am till this very
day. In parallel, I started publishing my
poetry at a very young age, first in French
in my teen years, and then in Arabic in
my twenties - and I’ve been lucky enough
to having been translated to numerous
languages. The Arabic cultural magazine
“Jasad” I launched in 2009 got broad
attention because of its controversial
nature, since it deals with sexuality and
taboos in the Arab world. Also, both my
essays on womanhood and patriarchy
have had the privilege to appeal to a wide
readership in the Arab world and abroad
(“I Killed Scheherazade” in 2010 and
“Superman is an Arab” in 2012).
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE
PEOPLE IN THE MEDIA MAKE?
ENVIRONMENT - SO WHERE DID
YOU DISCOVER YOUR STRONG
PERSONALITY AND BELIEF
SYSTEM?
In books: Literature inspired me to dig out
the real me.
IT’S
PERSONAL…
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE
YOUR PERSONALITY?
Passionate, free, transgressive, rebellious,
ambitious, and hard working. On the
dark side, I am impatient, obstinate,
confrontational, demanding, and
sometimes reckless. I also have a bad
relationship with money: we don’t seem to
stand each other’s company!
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE KEY
TO A SUCCESSFUL MARRIAGE?
There are no formulas, but one guideline
is to never consider it an eternal contract.
“Till death do us part” takes away the
pleasure of winning your partner over and
over again. Also, it is important to realize
that a successful marriage can last a few
years, not necessarily a lifetime. It’s about
knowing when to leave instead of staying
for the sake of something/someone, and
allowing things to rotten.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE
MOTHERHOOD?
The blooming of my femininity and a
trigger of my capacity to love and give,
not expecting anything in return but the
happiness of my loved ones.
WHO HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST
ROLE MODEL?
The woman I want to be. She is still far
ahead of me, and every time I think I have
gotten closer to her, she finds a way to be
further ahead.
DO YOU THINK THERE ARE TOO
MANY MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT
YOU?
Both of my parents, my 7th grade French
teacher Norma Gédéon, and all the
amazing writers I read while growing up.
Not being afraid of saying what I want to
say, living the way I want to live, and being
who I am.
Of course. But then again, that is the
reason why I get to be a surprise to those
who really try to know me. As for the illintentioned misconceptions, I don’t waste
my time worrying about them. In any case,
I do not write to be understood: I write to
understand myself.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE
YOUR UPBRINGING?
YOU CLAIM TO HAVE GROWN UP
IN A STRICT FAMILY AND SCHOOL
A challenging adventure.
WHO INFLUENCED YOU THE
MOST IN YOUR CHILDHOOD?
18 Fit'n Style Oct 2013

intellectually and with constant encouragement/pressure to excel.
Stereotyping and seeking sensationalism.

Any harm that would occur to my sons.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST FEAR?
because it makes me enjoy them even

WHAT GIVES YOU THE MOST
PLEASURE IN LIFE?
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING IN
YOUR SPARE TIME?
The smiles of my kids, the letters of my
readers, and the blazing love of my man.
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE
BIGGEST SEXUAL TABOO IN
LEBANON AND/OR THE MIDDLE
EAST IN GENERAL?
Women’s sexual freedom.
LIFESTYLE…
WHAT TYPE OF DIET DO YOU
FOLLOW?
None. I hate to deprive myself. I just eat
moderately, and when I exaggerate one
day, I make up for it by being careful the
next.
DO YOU WORKOUT OR
EXERCISE? WHAT DO YOU DO
AND HOW OFTEN?
I only started recently. I work out with a
personal trainer 3 times a week and I swim
and/or play tennis the other days.
DO YOU HAVE ANY BAD HABITS
OR GUILTY PLEASURES?
Many. The only confessable one is
smoking. I prefer to keep the others secret
I barely have any spare time. But when
I do, I spend it mostly dreaming and
planning. I also enjoy reading, watching
movies, and hanging out with my friends.
THE PERFECT SATURDAY NIGHT
FOR YOU WOULD BE…
In bed with the man I love.
DO YOU HAVE A BEAUTY ITEM
YOU CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT?
Love and laughter.
FAVORITES…
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TYPE
OF MUSIC?
Ethnic and Jazz.
FOOD?
Lebanese.
TV SHOW?
Stephen Colbert.
BOOK OR AUTHOR?
“The book of disquiet” by Fernando
Pessoa and anything by Italian author
Cesare Pavese and Brazilian writer Clarice
Lispector.

considering getting involved in politics a
few years down the road.
WHAT CHALLENGES DO YOU
FACE?
Mainly resisting the urge to leave this
country and region.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF
IN 10 YEARS FROM NOW?
As involved, crazy, young, and in love as I
am today.
WHERE DOES YOUR MAGAZINE
JASAD STAND THESE DAYS?
“Jasad” has been on pause for two years
now because it had no financial support
whatsoever and I couldn’t keep on doing
it on my own. It is a miracle I managed to
publish eight issues with no advertisement
and no financing. But the great news is
that now we are working on an online
version which we will be launching soon.
And this time it is back to stay.

SEX
ENHANCING
workouts
ardio exercise can improve your stamina and increase
endurance...and we all know that lack of strength and
energy during sex can kill your sex life altogether. But
apart from a cardio workout, some exercise moves can
strengthen the muscles in the lower body, pelvis, and core, so that
you can handle any position and enjoy much more intense orgasms.
Read on to find out how to improve your sexual skills and performance, and turn good sex into GREAT sex.
1
The Plank:
Loose abdominal muscles might affect erection in men and can
cause women to arch and hurt their back. Strong abs, on the other
hand, will give men and women the power to improve and maintain their thrusting ability. To perform a plank, lie down on your
stomach and raise your body placing your weight on your palms,
forearms, and toes. Make sure your body is perfectly parallel to
the floor. Hold that position for as long as you can keeping your
stomach tight and your back straight. This workout will work your
abs and your entire core.
These two terrific exercises can prevent your thighs from shaking
and getting tired quickly during sex - plus research shows lower
body exercise can get blood flowing to the genitalia and intensify
your orgasm. Stand with your knees slightly wider than shoulder
width apart. Using free weight or a barbell, keep your back straight,
bend at the knees, and squat as low as you can - then rise to the
standing position and repeat. Next, hold a pair of dumbbells and
take a lunge forward lowering yourself by bending your knee until your front leg is at 90 degree with the floor. Stand and repeat
with the other leg. To prevent knee injury in both squats and lunges,
make sure your knees never go further than your toes.
2

This is the only move that will strengthen the muscles you mostly
use during intercourse. It helps strengthen your glute muscles in
order to easily lower and raise your pelvis off the bed. Don’t let your
partner on top do all the work; use your toned butt to raise your
pelvis and double the pleasure for both of you. Lie face up on the
floor with your knees bent. Raise your hips so your body forms a
straight line from your shoulders to your knees (like a bridge). Hold
for 5 seconds, go back to starting position, and repeat.

EXERCISE NOT ONLY HELPS YOU LOOK GOOD NAKED,
IT CAN ALSO IMPROVE YOUR SKILLS IN THE BEDROOM.

new and adventurous positions in the bedroom. Take a push up position, arms straight on the floor, and feet on a Swiss ball. Roll the
ball towards your chest pulling it forward with your feet. Hold for
5 seconds and then return to starting position by rolling the ball
backwards. Repeat.
When you build a strong chest, back, and triceps, you will be able
to hold yourself up for a longer period of time, especially in the missionary position for men. Men need to push in most sex positions;
if they rest their entire weight on the female, it can be very uncomfortable for her. Moreover, holding yourself up over your partner
will let you maintain eye contact and connect on a deeper level.

Swiss Ball Ab Rolls:
This exercise not only strengthens core muscles, it also trains the
body’s balance and stability in order to make it easier to explore
Kegel Exercise:
Strong pelvic floor muscles can have big payoffs when it comes
to sexual satisfaction and stronger orgasms. These muscles are
responsible for the contractions you feel during climax. This exercise tones and strengthens the vaginal muscles in women, boosting arousal. Also, it helps men control their ejaculation in order to
last longer in bed. They also intensify contractions during orgasm
because more blood gets pumped into that region. Perform Kegel
exercise by tightening you pelvic muscles (those that control your
urine flow) and hold for five seconds; then relax and repeat. Girls
can also do it during intercourse; squeezing those love muscles
when he’s inside you will increase pleasure on both sides.
Happy Baby Pose:
Flexibility goes hand in hand with great sex; you don’t want leg
cramps and back aches in the middle of your sex session. Stretching and lengthening exercise is very important because if you’re not
flexible enough you can strain yourself while exploring new positions. Stretch your hamstrings and your spine with the happy baby
pose. Lie on your back with your knees bent towards your chest,
hold the outside of each foot with your hands, and allow the knees
to bend and curl back and forth like a happy baby waiting to have
his diaper changed.

LUXURY WITH A HEALTH RISK
Immersing into a hot tub directly after heavy exercise is definitely
a temptation hard to resist; yet, it can carry health risks if proper
precautions aren't taken. Hidden dangers include: dehydration, dizziness, heat stroke, extreme fatigue, and heart attack. The reason
for such dangers is due to the fact that when you heavily exercising, you lose plenty of water in the form of sweat. By using a hot
tub directly after exercising, your body loses extra water from being exposed to a high temperature, therefore putting you in a state
of dehydration. Long exposure to this high temperature will make
your already dilated blood vessels dilate further in an attempt to
regulate your body temperature; this will exhaust your heart trying to pump blood to your extremities to cool them down, possibly
leading to a heart attack.

24 Fit'n Style Oct 2013
Additionally, the fact that your blood vessels are dilated will make
your blood pressure drop. This is significant in people who have
high blood pressure or heart problems; their blood vessels may not
constrict fast enough, resulting in a big drop in blood pressure and
eventually fainting. Do all these health risks imply you need to forget the hot tub? Well, not to that extent! Just follow the following
measures as a precaution:
4 TIPS FOR A COOL EXPERIENCE
IN THE HOT TUB:
1. Hydrate before soaking:
Drink plenty of fluids after exercising and before entering a hot tub
to prevent dehydration and keep your blood pressure regulated.
Avoid caffeinated drinks and alcoholic drinks before getting into a
hot tub as they will encourage dehydration.
2. Cool down before you heat up:
Cool down for at least an hour before entering a hot tub; taking
a cool shower or bath can help lower your body temperature, improve your breathing rate, and normalize your heart rate. In case
you have had muscle or joint strain during exercise, do not use a
hot tub immediately. Instead, apply ice first to reduce inflammation and swelling.
3. Time yourself:
Do not sit in a hot tub for more than 10 minutes. Also, allow your
body to cool down after getting out of a hot tub and before heading home.
4. Partially soak in a hot tub:
Although soaking completely in a hot tub seems to wash away all
the stress and tiredness from exercising, make sure you do not fully
soak yourself. Keep your upper body out of the water so that your
system can get rid of excess heat.

GYM

A Z AR DS
MOST OF YOU GO TO THE GYM AND EXERCISE
BECAUSE IT’S HEALTHY, BUT THOUGH YOU MIGHT
BE THINKING YOU’RE DOING A GREAT FAVOR TO
YOUR BODY, SOME FACTORS CAN ACTUALLY TAKE
THE HEALTHY OUT OF YOUR WORKOUT. HERE’S A LIST
OF GYM HAZARDS, LIKE INJURIES, INFECTIONS, AND
OTHER RISKS AT THE GYM, AND TIPS ON HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND AVOID THEM.
UNCERTIFIED TRAINERS
Does your gym trainer have a degree or certification? Or is he just
one of those fitness instructors who calls himself a personal trainer
but has no qualifications whatsoever? Uncertified trainers can give
you improper workouts that don’t match your needs and may hurt
your body. In some cases, this can be quite dangerous. Always ask
about your trainer's education, their work experience, and if you
must, ask to see certificates and degrees with your own two eyes.
Usually, they should be hung on the wall for everyone to see. Some
gyms recruit uncertified trainers in order not to pay high salaries;
those trainers agree to work for little money provided they use all
the gym facilities for free. Remember, not anyone with six pack abs
is necessarily a good coach; don’t let those muscles fool you!
EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTION
Every day, gym equipment is used over and over again, which is why
it needs constant maintenance and repair. Malfunctions are very
common, especially if equipment is not assessed frequently. When
a machine is not working properly, you risk hurting yourself. So next
time you notice a broken down machine or any piece of equipment
that isn’t operating properly, don’t use it and report it immediately
to the manager. Also, choose a decent gym; if your gym has a machine that has been “Out of Order” for weeks, it pretty much says
a lot about their maintenance policies. Always choose a gym that is
serious and concerned about the comfort and health of their clients.
DOING IT WRONG
If your training at the gym is unsupervised, mistakes are inevitable,
whether it’s putting too much pressure on the joints, or hurting the
back or the knees... You must always ask for professional help from
a personal trainer to aid you to perform your exercise moves correctly... or you will end up at the orthopedist’s office. Trying to lift
heavy weights, using poor techniques, overusing the muscles, and
Fit'n Style Oct 2013
stretching incorrectly, can lead to sprains
and strains. If a move doesn't feel right,
stop immediately and rest.
POOR CHOICE OF
EXERCISE
Nowadays, with the help of YouTube and
phone apps, you have a wide range of exercise routines at your service; however,
the real challenge is knowing what’s right
for you. Choosing the wrong exercises can
be dangerous. Remember not to push too
hard or you will hurt yourself. You must
know your limits, and in case you have certain health problems or special conditions
like diabetes, a bad back, high blood pressure, or recent surgery, you must consult
your doctor first. Inform your trainer thoroughly in order to get an exercise program
according to your special needs.
TRIPPING AND
FALLING
Jumping and running around the gym can
increase your risk of falls, particularly with
dumbbells and equipment surrounding
you, and the wet, sweaty floors where you
are most likely to slip. Make sure you put
your hand weights back in place after using them, for your safety and for the safety
of others; when you see wet floors, inform
the janitor immediately. Also, it’s dangerous to carry heavy weights if you’re still a
beginner; start slowly and always ask for
assistance when needed.
INFECTIONS
The last thing you want is an infection from
the gym when you’re trying to be more
healthy. The truth is, where there is sweat,
there’s most likely plenty of germs. Fungi,
bacteria, and viruses are common... especially in wet areas such as showers and
locker room floors. Also, sweat left to dry
on equipment, exercise mats, benches, and
dumbbells is a breeding ground for bacterial growth. In order to minimize the chance
of getting infected, wash your hands frequently before and after using equipment,
sit on a towel on benches and mats (or
bring your own mat), wear flip-flops in the
shower, and use hand sanitizer sparingly.

Dear Coach,
I AM 31 YEARS OLD AND FAIRLY NEW TO THE GYM AND EXERCISE
SCENE. RECENTLY, I STARTED A WEIGHT LIFTING PROGRAM IN
ORDER TO TONE MY MUSCLES AND LOSE SOME EXTRA WEIGHT. I
AM WITNESSING SOME RESULTS, WHICH MAKES ME VERY HAPPY.
I CAN SEE A CHANGE IN THE SHAPE OF MY ARMS, ABS, AND LEGS.
HOWEVER, I AM UNCERTAIN ABOUT THE SPEED I SHOULD APPLY
WHEN LIFTING WEIGHTS AND PERFORMING LUNGES, SQUATS,
ETC. CAN YOU PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR OPINION ON THE RECOMMENDED SPEED OF LIFTING?
Dear Inssaf,
The topic of lifting speed is debatable. Some people find results in
fast lifting, while others feel that they achieve good results in slow
lifting. Of course, it all depends on the purpose and the goal of the
exerciser, and, in my opinion, consistency in exercising remains the
key element to any successful training program – being performed
with a slow or fast speed.
Generally, there are three speeds to lifting: slow, moderate, and
fast. What I consider slow lifting duration is about 8 seconds – I
know, it is slow. The timing of the positive lift would be about 3
seconds and 5 seconds for the negative motion (lowering the
weight). In my experience, I found it to be most effective. The idea
is to use more time during your eccentric movement (when you
lower) because your negative muscle works best during this phase;
you would also exhaust the muscle in fewer repetitions (6 to 8).
Furthermore, slow speed lifting can put maximum tension on the
muscles, and consequently cause the microtearing of muscle fibers
(that is what helps you build muscles).
28 Fit'n Style Oct 2013
MY QUESTIONS ARE:
1 – WOULD A PARTICULAR SPEED GET ME BETTER RESULTS?
2 – WHAT SPEED DO YOU RECOMMEND?
3 – HOW DO YOU MEASURE LIFTING?
I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR OPINION ON THIS MATTER.
Inssaf A. I.
A slower lifting technique will enable you to build more muscle; it
will also help in toning your muscles at a faster rate. Keep in mind
that when you bring your muscles to failure point during slow lift
training, your body burns more calories, even when you are resting
(post workout). So, for these reasons, and for safer training, I certainly recommend slow lift training. It may take you a little while to
get used to slow lifting, but I think it is worth the effort.
Fast lifting can help you develop strength and power. When you
perform fast lifting, you are able to lift more weight because of the
momentum factor. With fast lifting, the tendency of incurring an
injury increases because one may get excited and jerk the body out
of control. There is nothing wrong with fast lifting, though if you
choose to do it, the form and posture of the body should not be
compromised – this also goes for slow lifting. Lifting and moving
the joint through all its range of motion is also important because it
promotes the development of the whole targeted muscle.
Best of luck,
Abdo G. Mansour

HEARING
INTERVIEW WITH DR. MARC BASSIM - ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF OTOLOGY &
NEUROTOLOGY AT THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF BEIRUT MEDICAL CENTER
(AUBMC)’S DEPARTMENT OF OTOLARYNGOLOGY AND HEAD AND NECK SURGERY
By | Kristine Boujaoude
o you find yourself asking others to repeat what they
just said during social gatherings? Do you get accused
of having the TV volume too high? Are you afraid to
deal with your hearing impairment for the simple fact
that you don't want to be seen wearing a hearing aid? Most people
will never truly appreciate their ability to hear until it is impaired.
Healthy hearing involves many factors including prevention,
awareness, and being proactive. While hearing impairment may still
carry a stigma in our society, it should be understood that there are
several measures that can be taken to promote healthy hearing.
DR. MARC BASSIM WAS ONE OF THE KEY DOCTORS AT
AUBMC WHO SUCCESSFULLY PERFORMED THE FIRST SURGICAL IMPLANTATION OF A NEW BONE CONDUCTION HEARING IMPLANT CALLED THE BONEBRIDGE TO A LEBANESE
PATIENT ON FEBRUARY 20TH, 2013. HE DISCUSSED WITH
THE FIT'N STYLE TEAM THE IMPORTANCE OF PROTECTING
OUR HEARING AND EXPLAINED TO US THIS NEW PIONEERING BONE CONDUCTION SYSTEM.
WHY ARE THERE SO MANY LEBANESE WITH HEARING
ISSUES?
There are several reasons actually. One of the most common factors
is exposure to loud sounds and noise. Our level of awareness is still
lacking when it comes to taking care of our hearing; in the teenage
years, many are exposed to loud noise such as blaring music, loud
30 Fit'n Style Oct 2013
restaurants, and concerts. Add to that the war, hunting, factories,
construction... these are all areas that can affect hearing and
there aren't any laws to protect hearing. For example, you don't
usually see construction workers wearing protective hearing wear
unfortunately. There aren't any laws to restrict sound and noise
level in our environment either. Then there are children's places
that are dangerously loud and noisy.
Another factor is the genetic component. Both hearing loss at
birth and hearing loss due to aging are strongly influenced by
family factors, and Lebanon has a higher rate of consanguineous
marriages, and marriages within the same community.
AUBMC HAS A RELATIVELY NEW BALANCE CENTER. CAN
YOU TELL US ABOUT THIS?
Yes, the Balance Center will been operational this fall. It is a center
to diagnose and help treat all problems related to balance and
disequilibrium; many balance issues involve the inner ear, but some
are related to other factors. It is the first center in the Middle East
to provide a comprehensive balance evaluation – using cutting
edge technology to treat the many aspects of balance dysfunction
and promote a return to healthy living.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER SOMEONE WHO THINKS
THEY MIGHT HAVE A HEARING ISSUE?
I would definitely say that they must be examined and tested by
their primary care provider and/or preferably by an ENT specialist.
IF AN ELDERLY PERSON HAS LOST
THEIR LEVEL OF HEARING FOR MANY
YEARS - IS THERE ANY HOPE IN AIDING THEM?
Yes; while you cannot recover what has
been lost, you can do things to help your
situation - just like wearing contact lenses
or glasses to help your vision. When it
comes to age related hearing loss, there
are options available. Technology is
fantastic nowadays and a hearing aid can
definitely help just about anyone. Hearing
aids are small and comfortable these days,
esthetically they are much more appealing
than many years ago. Beyond that, we have
the technology of cochlear implants - a
device implanted close to the nerve which
takes over the function of the inner ear
and provides pretty good levels of hearing.
Technically speaking, there isn't an age
limitation on that.
DO YOU THINK THERE IS STILL A STIGMA TODAY WITH HAVING A HEARING
IMPAIRMENT?
While attitudes have changed quite a
bit over the years, I do think hearing
impairment still holds a stigma. In our
society, it still is a big deal - even with the
small and inconspicuous devices available.
We need to change that because dealing
with hearing issues promotes a better
quality of life. Hearing loss not dealt with
can affect a person's self confidence and
can lead to relationship issues and even
depression sometimes.
WHAT TYPES OF HEARING LOSS ARE
THERE?
Conductive hearing loss is the result of
sounds not being able to travel freely to the
inner ear. It can be as simple as wax build
up in your ear, a hole in your eardrum, fluid
behind the eardrum, or one of the bones
fixed and/or broken. Sensory neural hearing
loss is sometimes referred to as sensory,
cochlear, neural, or inner ear hearing loss.
It is the result of damage to the cells within
the cochlea or/and the nerve.
MANY PEOPLE ARE IN DENIAL WHEN
IT COMES TO THEIR HEARING ISSUES. WHAT WOULD BE SOME WARNING SIGNS THAT PEOPLE SHOULD BE
AWARE OF?
If you are sitting in a social environment and
you often have to ask "what" constantly...
or you are embarrassed to keep on asking to
have something repeated, you are always
trying to read lips or find yourself winging
it - it's probably a good idea to get tested.
For children, one of the earliest indicators
is a delay in speech. We cannot stress how
important it is, especially for children, to
get tested at the earliest suspicion. As we
said above, the earlier the better, and there
is really no such thing as “too young to be
tested” anymore.
CAN YOU PLEASE TELL OUR READERS ABOUT THE FIRST SURGICAL
IMPLANTATION IN LEBANON OF A
NEW BONE CONDUCTION HEARING
IMPLANT CALLED THE BONEBRIDGE
THAT TOOK PLACE IN FEBRUARY THIS
YEAR?
This new surgical procedure is the first
of its kind in Lebanon. It is a new hearing
system and an exciting device that will
improve the overall quality of life for
all applicable patients. The Bonebridge
system is made up of two parts: there is the
externally worn part (the audio processor)
and an internal part (the bone conduction
implant) which is surgically placed under
the skin behind the impaired ear. The audio
processor captures sound and transmits
signals by means of electromagnetic waves
through the skin to the implant. And since
the audio processor is kept on top of the
implant through magnetic attraction, it can
be removed easily for things like sleeping
and showering. A small incision is made
behind the ear and surgery takes about
an hour under general anesthetic. There is
minimal pain and very little risk.
This latest procedure was performed on
a 21 year old patient who was deaf in one
ear since birth. For such individuals, noisy
environments are challenging in the way
that the brain takes in all the noise - but
they have a hard time telling where sounds
are coming from. The implant is placed at
the deaf ear, and when someone speaks
to them on that side, this device takes
that sound and sends it through the skull
to the other ear. It gives more perspective
and balance in crowded environments. This
bone conduction implant manufactured by
MED-EL is especially suitable for those who
suffer from conductive and mixed hearing
loss or single-sided deafness.
PROTECTING YOURSELF FROM
NOISE-RELATED HEARING LOSS:
1. Wear ear protection if you'll be
exposed to sounds higher than 85 dB.
2. If your workplace is noisy, wear the
recommended ear protection all the
time.
3. Follow the 60-60 rule for your
personal music device; listen at 60%
of the maximum volume for up to 60
minutes per day. Exceeding this can lead
to permanent hearing loss.

HEART
1. STOP SMOKING
Quitting smoking is the single most
important thing a person can do to live
longer. If you are a smoker, you are twice
more likely to have a heart attack than a
non-smoker. But from the moment you
stop smoking, the risk of heart attack
starts to reduce.
2. KEEP YOUR WEIGHT
IN CHECK
Studies have found that being obese
significantly raises your risk of developing
heart problems, including atrial fibrillation.
3. GET YOUR BODY
MOVING
5. CUT DOWN ON SALT
Too much salt can cause high blood
pressure, which increases the risk of
developing coronary heart disease. Avoid
foods like crisps, salted nuts, canned and
packet soups and sauces, baked beans
and canned vegetables, pizzas, and readymade meals. Many breakfast cereals and
breads that appear healthy also contain
high levels of salt, so keep your eye on
these too.
Regular moderate physical activity can
help you reduce your risk of complications

Walking for at least half an hour every day
is usually a good place to begin.

STRESS
Acute stress can trigger episodes of
arrhythmia when you have AFib. And
chronic stress often leads to unhealthy
habits, such as smoking; both are bad for
your heart.
9. DON'T OVERDO THE
COFFEE
In the past, some doctors told people with
atrial fibrillation never to drink coffee. In
recent studies, however, caffeine doesn’t
appear to be linked to more AFib episodes.
But drinking too much caffeine can raise
your blood pressure, which you want to
avoid. Keep your caffeine intake moderate
to help keep you on an even keel.
10. DON'T IGNORE THE
WARNING SIGNS AND
CHECK WITH YOUR
DOCTOR
Tightness or discomfort in the chest, neck,
arm, or stomach, which comes on when
you exert yourself but goes away with
rest, may be the first sign of angina, which
can lead to a heart attack if left untreated.
Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is an irregular
heartbeat. For some, AFib never causes a
problem. For others, it can lead to strokes
and heart attacks or even heart failure.
Symptoms of AFib may include dizziness,
fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath,
and chest pain, especially in people with
underlying heart disease. If you feel your
heart "skipping a beat" or if you have
any of the previous symptoms, see your
doctor.

COOK YOUR MOOD
IN THE KITCHEN!
HAVE YOU BEEN STRUGGLING LATELY WITH A CRANKY MOOD THAT SEEMS
TO GET IN THE WAY OF COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR WORKMATES,
MEETING DEADLINES, PERFORMING AT YOUR BEST DURING MEETINGS,
AND DELIVERING QUALITY WORK? DO YOU FIND YOURSELF HITTING THE
CAR HORN NON-STOP WHILE DRIVING EVEN IF THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS ARE

WORK ENVIRONMENT, GIVE THE FOLLOWING ANGER-MANAGEMENT MENU
A CHANCE TO CALM YOU DOWN, IMPROVE YOUR MOOD, AND CHARGE YOU
WITH THE ENERGY YOU NEED TO THINK BETTER!
KICK OFF A GOOD MOOD WITH A
POWER BOOSTING STARTER!
A morning that starts off with a grouchy mood often drags on for
the rest of the day. Want to know why? It usually falls down to how
well you nourish yourself at breakfast time. A good way to do so
is to load on fatigue-fighting magnesium, potassium, and vitamin
C sources. Read along as we cook your good mood with a power
boosting starter. Put 1.5 cups of plain yogurt in a bowl and add 1
cup of oatmeal to it. Now, slice 2 bananas, 4 strawberries, and 1
kiwi, and sprinkle over the yogurt mixture. Next, add some honey
to please your sweet tooth!
BREAK FREE OF STRESS WITH A
C-RICH SHAKE!
If you are continuously struggling with a bad temper, it might mean
that your body is experiencing major oxidative damage. A smart way
to break free of stress is to stock up on vitamin C sources, known
to have antioxidant abilities. You want to make it to a better mood?
Then you’ve got to shake it! Here’s how: in a blender, combine ½ a
cup of vanilla flavored soy milk, 1/4 cup of freshly squeezed orange
juice, ½ cup of chopped papaya, ½ cup of strawberries, ½ cup of
kiwi, and 1 Tbsp of honey. Cover and blend until smooth.

SUPERCHARGE YOUR ENERGY
WITH A REWARDING LUNCH!
Now that you’re through mid-day, it’s vital to supercharge your
energy with a rewarding lunch. Ingredients rich in folic acid,
magnesium, and omega-3 fats can help you carry on with a
pleasant mood during the following hours. Here’s the menu:
a mouthwatering salad accompanied by taste bud pampering
smoked salmon. To prepare the salad, boil 1 cup of water and 1/2
cup of quinoa in a saucepan. On low heat, simmer for 15 minutes
and then allow to cool. Chop 1 bunch of asparagus and boil it in
water. Drain the asparagus. Place quinoa, asparagus, 1/2 large red
capsicum chopped, ¼ cup sunflower seeds, red onion, 200g kidney
beans, ½ avocado, 50g smoked salmon (cut into cubes), and 50g
spinach leaves in a bowl. Lightly toss. To prepare the dressing,
combine 4 Tbsp of light mayonnaise with 4 Tbsp of low sodium soy
sauce. Dilute with water.
REBOOT YOUR ENERGY WITH A
NUTTY SNACK!
Most of us tend to have a drop in our energy level in the afternoon.
A grab’n go nutty mix may be the best solution to that as it will
boost your serotonin level and therefore give you an increased
feeling of pleasure. Don’t overdo it though, as we don’t want you
to improve your mood at the expense of extra calories! A mix of 8
peanuts, 8 pistachios, 8 almonds, and 2 walnut halves should be fine
as an energy re-booter.
LAUNCH THE NEXT DAY WITH A
GOOD NIGHT SLEEP!
The key to proper anger management is not only getting enough
sleep - but also getting good quality sleep. An important factor
to guarantee this is by focusing on what you fill your tummy with
before you jump into bed. Here’s a suggestion worth trying tonight:
in a blender, add 1 cup of pitted cherries, 1 banana, 1 cup of low
fat milk, 12 coarsely chopped almonds, and 6 ice cubes. Cover and
process until the mix becomes smooth.

GLAUCOMA
THE SILENT LOSS OF SIGHT
GLAUCOMA IS A DISEASE THAT AFFECTS THE EYE, CAUSING GRADUAL LOSS OF VISION
WITHOUT OBVIOUS SYMPTOMS FOR SEVERAL YEARS. IF LEFT UNTREATED, GLAUCOMA
CAN EVENTUALLY CAUSE PERMANENT BLINDNESS. AFTER CANCER AND HEART DISEASE,
BLINDNESS IS THE SINGLE LARGEST HEALTH FEAR TO PATIENTS ACROSS THE GLOBE.
ACCORDING TO THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION, GLAUCOMA IS THE 2ND LEADING
CAUSE OF BLINDNESS GLOBALLY1 . OVER 60 MILLION INDIVIDUALS ARE BLIND IN BOTH
EYES AS A RESULT OF THIS DISEASE2 .
ost people with glaucoma
initially feel normal and do
not notice any alteration
in their vision, because in
the initial stages, it often
only affects side or peripheral vision. In
many cases, the disease may have already
reached an advanced stage by the time
a patient starts to notice loss of vision.
Elevated pressure in the eye leads to
glaucomatous damage of the optic nerve,
which leads to glaucoma. The optic nerve,
which is located in back of the eye, is the
main visual nerve for the eye; when fluid
cannot be drained out of the eye, inner
eye pressure increases, and over time,
increased optic nerve pressure leads to
damage and vision loss. 3
GLAUCOMA PRESSURE
POINTS
Certain individuals are at a higher risk of developing glaucoma; factors such as age and
ethnicity are amongst the main indicators
for those at risk. For example, glaucoma
is the leading cause of blindness among
African Americans after cataracts; whilst
patients of Asian ethnicity also appear to
be at an increased risk of developing angleclosure glaucoma. However, one of the
greatest glaucoma risk factors is age; people over 60 years of age are 6 times more
likely to contract glaucoma than those in
younger age brackets. Genetics also play
a major role in who is at risk of developing this disease; the most common type of
36 Fit'n Style Oct 2013
glaucoma, primary open-angle glaucoma,
is hereditary. In general, patients who suffer from hypertension and diabetes (or are
near sighted) are also more likely to develop glaucoma later in life than patients who
do not face these problems. 4
Whilst glaucoma usually affects older
patients, younger generations are not
completely safe, as there are several
inherited forms of glaucoma; one such
example being primary congenital
glaucoma - a leading cause of blindness in
young people. 4
Studies have also shown that asthma may
be a risk factor for glaucoma too. According
to a study reported in the Journal of
American Medical Association, there was
a 40% increase in the incidence of ocular
hypertension and open-angle glaucoma in
adults who require approximately 14 to 35
puffs of steroid inhaler to control asthma. 4
Whilst rarer, other forms of glaucoma, such
as traumatic glaucoma, can be a result of
damage to the eyes' drainage system;
this type of glaucoma is mainly found in
patients who play a lot of contact sports
such as American football or boxing. For
individuals who face any of these risk
factors, it is important to make sure to go
in for a complete eye exam, including an
eye dilation exam every one to two years.
When caught early, glaucoma can be a very
manageable disease, with blindness easily
being prevented.
GLAUCOMA IN LEBANON
Almost 2% of the Middle Eastern population
suffer from glaucoma5, in addition to the
fact that glaucoma is one of the leading
optical complications faced by diabetics; in
Lebanon, almost 20% of the population is
estimated to suffer from diabetes, and as a
result, the rates of glaucoma are expected
to increase6. Whilst there is growing
awareness of the importance of periodic
tests and regular eye checkups, glaucoma
still poses a major risk to those who live
in Lebanon. “Diagnosing glaucoma is not
easy; careful evaluation of the optic nerve
via regular and thorough eye exams is
crucial to early detection. Without proper
treatment, glaucoma can lead to blindness;
protecting your sight is vital at any stage of
life,” stated Omar Rifi, Managing Director,
MSD Levant.
MANAGING GLAUCOMA
Typically, medications are intended to
maintain the pressure in your eye at a
healthy level and prevent damage to the
optic nerve. Managing glaucoma depends
on the use of eye drops; during instillation,
symptoms such as pain, itching, stinging,
dry eye sensation, and eyelid itching are
much more visible when using preserved
medication as compared to preservative
free medications, leading to one
conclusion: the use of preservative free
eye drops are significantly less associated
with undesirable symptoms and other
signs of irritation, which in turn will lead
to improved compliance and adherence to
the treatment regimen of glaucoma7. Drugs used to treat glaucoma
include prostaglandin analogs, alpha agonists, and beta blockers.
Prostaglandin analogs, such as Tafluprost, work by mimicking the
action of a naturally occurring prostaglandin, increasing the outflow
of fluid from the eye, and reducing elevated intraocular pressure
in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. This
class of medications is considered a first line treatment option for
this condition. 8
By 2020, the projected global prevalence of glaucoma will have
exceeded 75 million individuals. In order to halt the escalating
number of glaucoma patients, periodic tests and proper diagnosis
are key, and will go a long way to averting the overwhelming socioeconomic impact that glaucoma and ultimately blindness, poses on
local communities. 3

lack of water in the body can
lead to dehydration. Even
mild dehydration - fluid loss
equal to less than 5% of body
weight- can drain your energy and make
you feel tired. Physical symptoms include
thirst, dry skin, dry mouth and throat, rapid
pulse, weakness, reduced quantity of urine,
decreased mental and muscle function, and
fainting. Fluid loss greater than 5% percent
of body weight leads to pale skin, a confused state, rapid and shallow breathing,
and a weak irregular pulse. If immediate action is not sought, it might result in coma
and death.
Each day, we lose water through breathing,
perspiration, urine, and bowel movements.
In order for your body to function properly
you need to replenish its water supply by
consuming beverages and foods that contain water. As a general guideline, the Dietary Reference Intake or DRI recommendation is 9 cups of water per day for adult
women and 13 cups for adult men.
Can a lack

WATER IS YOUR BODY’S PRIMARY CHEMICAL COMPONENT AND ON AVERAGE MAKES UP
60% OF YOUR BODY WEIGHT. EVERY BODILY SYSTEM IS DEPENDENT ON WATER TO FUNCTION. FOR EXAMPLE, WATER FLUSHES TOXINS OUT OF VITAL ORGANS, CARRIES NUTRIENTS
TO CELLS, AND PROVIDES A MOIST ENVIRONMENT FOR EAR, NOSE, AND THROAT TISSUES.
38 Fit'n Style Oct 2013
If you exercise or perform any activity that
makes you sweat, you need to drink extra
water to compensate for the fluid loss.
About 1.5 to 2.5 cups should be adequate
for short periods of exercise. However,
for intense activities lasting more than an
hour, fluids containing electrolytes are usually recommended. You could refer to your
coach for more information regarding this
matter. The environment that you are in,
whether it is hot or humid, can make you
sweat and requires additional intake of fluids. Also, keep in mind that heated indoor
air can cause your skin to lose moisture during the winter season. High altitudes may
also trigger increased urination and more
rapid breathing, which use up more of your
body fluid. Illness is another factor to be
aware of because fever, vomiting, and diarrhea cause your body to lose additional
fluids. In these conditions, you should also
increase your water intake.
A second reason is that both thirst and
hunger cravings usually come at the same
time: during meal times. Another reason
is that with dehydration comes a feeling
of fatigue. Many times we interpret this
feeling of lethargy as being due to a lack
of energy fuel (sugar) and this produces a
false sense of hunger. Then, if we do “mistakenly” consume food, our body needs
additional water to manufacture digestive
juices to digest the food. This produces a
vicious cycle due to a misinterpretation of
thirst signal for hunger. If you consistently
mistakes thirst for hunger, it can definitely
affect your eating plan. A lack of water can
stimulate the appetite, making adhering to
your eating plan very difficult. Therefore,
it is crucial to stay adequately hydrated
throughout the day.
send the brain signals of thirst.
HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO
HELP YOU AVOID THIS:
• It is typically not good to use thirst alone
• When feeling hungry, drink a glass of wa-
as a signal for when to drink. It is possible
that by the time you become thirsty, you
already may be slightly dehydrated.
• Remember that as people get older, their
body is less able to detect dehydration and
• Hydrate yourself before, during, and after
exercise.
• If you are having an alcoholic beverage,
have a glass of water with every drink for
hydration. The same goes with your cup of
coffee and tea.
• Reduce your consumption of packaged or
prepared foods to a minimum. These foods
consist of high levels of salt. This results in
quick weight gain because of water retention in the body.
• Measure out your intended water intake
at the beginning of each day. Place the
glasses or bottles of water throughout the
house or office in areas that you are likely
to frequent. The more you see the water
containers, the more you will be likely to
drink during the day.
ter and wait 10 minutes to see if thirst was
stimulating your appetite instead of true
hunger.
• Consume foods that contain a larger per-
centage of water such as lettuce (95%), watermelon (92%), broccoli (91%), grapefruit
(91%), milk (89%), orange juice (88%), carrot
(87%), and apple (84%).
So,howcanalackofwater
make you eat more?
According to the American Dietetic Association Complete Food and Nutrition Guide,
thirst can be commonly mistaken for hunger, even though the body senses these
states through separate mechanisms. One
explanation for misinterpretation of signals
is that eating can bring a sense of solace to
thirst because some foods contain water.

TASTERS VS.
NON-TASTERS
HOW YOUR GENES
AFFECT WHAT YOU EAT
By | Jennifer Kanaan – Nutritionist
Nisrine Tabet Bardawil – Clinical Psychologist, Psychotherapist
ave you ever tasted something
very bitter while others could
barely notice the taste at all?
Or have you always been extra sensitive to chili and your friends always
comment: “What? This is not hot at all?”
Well, the answer to this predicament is
quite simple and complex at the same time.
Though factors such as when we eat, what
we eat, and how much we eat are largely
determined by our culture, religion, and individual experiences, we now know that the
interaction of genes plays just as prominent
a role as environmental factors. Your genes
make you either a taster (extra sensitive to
taste) or a non-taster (very low sensitivity
to taste). So, how does that affect what you
eat and your ability to stick to your eating
plan...and what can you do about it?
The fact that genes influence our taste
perception is not a new discovery. To test
this idea, scientists determined tasters and
non-tasters in a group of 65 children. The
children were given five different types of
vegetables, both bitter (black olives, cucumbers, and raw broccoli) and non-bitter
types (red peppers and carrots), and allowed them to take as much as they wanted. They found that 'non-taster' children
ate more bitter vegetables than 'taster'
children; the total vegetable consumption
was also higher, with non-taster children
eating about one serving of vegetables,
while tasters consumed one half that
amount. From these results, one can see
that being a bitter taster can most certainly
influence the food choices one makes.
Fit'n Style Oct 2013
On the bright side, we know that the more
one is exposed to certain foods, the more
likely a preference will be developed for it;
so, you need to keep exposing your children to healthy food in order to acquire a
fondness for them. Research studies indicate that 5 to 10 exposures may be necessary before a child accepts and/or consumes a new food item. Parents need to
be good role models by cooking and eating
a wide variety of vegetables that tend to
have more bitter flavors, and offering these
taste experiences to their loved ones.
Another difference between tasters and
non-tasters is that tasters or supertasters
have a greater density of tongue papillae than non-tasters. Each papillae or tiny
bump on the tongue houses several taste
buds. Researchers hypothesize this may be
a reason why supertasters and tasters perceive a greater intensity of a whole range
of tastes including spicy, sweet, and salty
stimuli. Supertasters’ perception of fat
content is even enhanced in comparison to
non-tasters.
How does being a supertaster or taster
affect one’s food choices? Research has
found that non-tasters seem to desire
more of each type of taste: bitter, sweet,
spicy, and especially, fat. The same study
also found that supertasters tend to avoid
very sweet, high-fat foods, as well as bitter foods, and typically eat less food in
general. Additionally, non-tasters prefer
high-fat meats, cheese, and milk more
than tasters do.
HERE ARE SOME SIMPLE
TRICKS TO OVERCOME
YOUR GENETIC PREDISPOSITION FOR TASTE:
Genes have been linked to a whole host of
eating behaviors in addition to taste discrimination. Several family and twin-based
studies have linked one’s preference for
specific macronutrients, such as fat, proteins, and carbohydrates, to our genetic
makeup. Non-tasters generally want flavor
and fat, which makes a reduced calorie diet
extremely difficult for them. Supertasters,
in comparison, tend to avoid strong flavors and healthy vegetables because most
vegetables taste bitter. So, if you are a
non-taster, you should enhance the flavors
of foods on your eating plan with healthy
spices or sweet condiments. Spices, herbs,
and seasoning mixes can kick up the flavor
to your liking. Examples of fresh herbs include basil, thyme, oregano, and cilantro.
Condiments such as sweet pickles, mustard, salsa, and hot sauce can also add
significant flavor with minimal calories. Supertasters should try to slightly steam raw
vegetables and add a healthy condiment
from the above list (or others) to decrease
bitterness.
As you can see, having a genetic predisposition that affects your eating behavior does
not mean you are doomed to unhealthy
food habits. Simply being aware of your
predisposition is half the battle; for the
rest, you can use some simple and easy
tricks.

GRAY HAIR 101: THE SCIENCE
BEHIND THE DISCOVERY
With aging, an enzyme called catalase decreases in our bodies, so
it can no longer breakdown hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. As a result, hydrogen peroxide (bleaching agent) accumulates
in hair follicles. To repair the damage, two enzymes called MSR A
and B usually come to the rescue, but again, these decrease with aging. Now, our bodies can no longer produce tyrosinase, an enzyme
involved in the breakdown of tyrosine to melanin, the pigment that
gives hair its color. This eventually leads to gray hair.
The full understanding of this process leads European researchers to develop a topical UV-B activated compound called PC-KUS,
a modified pseudocatalase. This compound was tested on around
2400 people suffering of vitiligo, a condition where parts of the
skin lose the pigments that give them their color. The treatment
fortunately showed the return of pigments of skin and eyelashes – a
discovery that gave the green light to many companies to produce
similar and more advanced treatments.

TREATMENTS
FOR
GRAY
HAIR: DO THEY KEEP THEIR
PROMISES?
By | Gina Abi Haidar
Community Dietitian and
Public Health Professional
Before no-gray hair products are thoroughly tested and proven
effective without causing any side effects, we cannot truly assess
whether they can keep their promises. According to some experts,
it may be smarter to consume minerals such as zinc and selenium as
supplements to produce the enzymes catalase, MSR A and B, and
tyrosinase rather than consume these enzymes directly in the form
of pills or creams. They also pointed out that any treatment – at
best – will stop the graying process, but will not reverse it.
TILL THEN, WHAT AVAILABLE
OPTIONS ARE THERE?
Till such anti-graying products are launched in market and fully
tested, you can always resort to natural ways to protect yourself
against free radical damage by loading up with antioxidants. You
can start the anti-aging process with this week’s meals as you cook
your hair to a younger and healthier condition!
ON MONDAY, bathe some oysters in creamy lemon sauce and lay
them down on a bed of spinach leaves; next sprinkle some cashews
to load on the zinc.
ON TUESDAY, go fishing for lobsters, crab, shrimp, and mussels, as
they are rich in selenium.
ON WEDNESDAY, snack on sesame seeds, soybeans, sunflower
seeds, and pumpkin seeds to get your share of copper.
ON THURSDAY, watch your favorite talk show as you enjoy whole
wheat cereal toast filled with eggs, salmon, and avocado to meet
your recommendation for biotin.
ON FRIDAY, blend carrots, apricots, peach, kiwi, oranges, strawberries, and almonds to form a smoothie. As you’re thanking God it’s
Friday, your hair will be thankful too!

TEOXANE
INNOVATION
REDENSITY II EYES
INTERVIEW WITH DR. STEFAN LIPP, AESTHETIC PRACTITIONER
By | Jasmine Boyajian
CREATED IN 2003 IN GENEVA, TEOXANE LABORATORIES ARE SPECIALIZED IN THE CONCEPTION AND MANUFACTURE OF HYALURONIC ACID-BASED INJECTABLE DERMAL FILLERS. ON
THE STRENGTH OF THEIR SUCCESS, THANKS TO THEIR DAILY RESEARCH FOR INNOVATION
AND THE HIGH STANDARD QUALITY PRODUCTS, TEOXANE LABORATORIES ARE PRESENT IN
MORE THAN 90 COUNTRIES WORLDWIDE. THEY ARE KNOWN AS A RENOWNED DERMAL
FILLER MARKET LEADER. FIT'N STYLE MAGAZINE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SIT DOWN
WITH THE AESTHETIC PRACTITIONER, DR. STEFAN LIPP, TO TALK ABOUT THE NEWEST GENERATION OF FILLERS FOR EYE CIRCLES: REDENSITY II.
WHY ARE EYES CONSIDERED THE BIGGEST CONCERN FOR WOMEN OVER 30?
Teoxane Company of Paris conducted an
independent study and asked around 4000
women about their concerns in beauty.
The study showed that the second concern
was the eye circles and the dark shadows
around the eyes that make you look tired.
The first concern in the study was the lips
and area around the mouth. So, Teoxane
is always taking care of the special beauty
needs for women.
TEOXANE INNOVATION IS A FORMULATION DESIGNED FOR EYE CIRCLES.
CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT THIS
INNOVATION?
Normally for the eye area, if pure Hyaluronic
Acid is injected, a lot of swelling will occur
due to the water retention that is produced
by this acid. The normal HA fillers cannot
work around the eyes where there are a
lot of lymphatic vessels and arteries. So the
company designed a special product which
is not hygroscopic and doesn’t retain much
water due to the fact that the product is a
semi-reticulated HA gel. It melts down in
the deeper layer and will not produce any
swelling.
WHAT IS THE SUBSTANCE OR THE
INGREDIENT THAT IS INJECTED?
The special feature about “Redensity II” is
not only a new formulated Hyaluronic Acid,
but also a demo-restructuring complex.
The product contains Lidocaine to make
pain-free injections; thus the patient would
be comfortable during the procedure.
Redensity II is the first HA in the world
that contains vitamins, antioxidants, and
minerals. The vitamins and the minerals
in the demo-restructuring complex are
exactly the same that you will find in the
skin. It’s not unnatural, it’s not plastic; it is
just filling something in the eye area that
used to be there. Furthermore, there’s a fat
compartment down the eyes that supports
them (it is seen in babies - they have really
nice eyes with a lot of fat supporting the
tissue), and at the age of 30, the fat is lost.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TEOXANE?
WHERE ARE THE OTHER ACIDS?
Teoxane is a so called “Phase 4” filler for
the newest generation. Hyaluronic Acid
fillers have been in the market for almost
30 years, so some of these products are old.
No one would buy a 30 year old car today,
you would buy a new car. Thus, you want to
buy the newest generation of fillers, which
is Teosyal, the fourth generation of fillers.
Thirty years ago, it was the phase one or
Fit'n Style Oct 2013
it has to be injected deeply in the SOOF for
prolonged results. In addition, the deeper
you go, you won’t find any Hyaluronidase.
The body has its own hormone to distract
HA but the Hyaluronidase is in the higher
levels of the skin and not deep down.
IS THERE ANY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
DEEP INJECTIONS AND SURFACE
INJECTION IN THIS CASE?
the first generation. The fourth generation
was introduced 2 years ago, hence, it’s
newest with the most valuable package
you can have.
WHY IS IT CALLED “REDENSITY II EYES”?
It is called Redensity since it brings back
density to the skin. If you put the product on
the eyes, it will rejuvenate the whole area;
one molecule of Hyaluronic Acid retains one
thousand molecules of water, so when you
place it there, the whole area is going to be
rehydrated and redensified. “Redensity I”
has been in the market for 2 years, which is
a non-reticulated HA gel. It is for superficial
application of the epidermis. But now we
have “Redensity II” for the eyes.
DID YOU FACE ANY NEGATIVE RESULTS?
Teoxane Laboratories is a Swiss company
and the company is secure about its
products. The laboratories conducted a
one year study with 67 patients. The study
included 6 different clinics and there was
only one patient who got edema - and
this was because they used more than the
recommended quantity to be injected. So,
there might be a 1% risk of side effects that
can occur, but HA fillers are very safe.
WHAT IS THE PRODUCT’S LIFETIME?
It can last up to 12 months if injected in the
proper way in terms of quantity, area to be
injected, and injection techniques. Indeed,
It depends on the patient. You need to
have good knowledge about the product
and the techniques, you have to know how
to work deeply, and you have to know how
to work superficially. That’s why we are
doing workshops to learn how to do it - to
be applied on different levels depending
on the indications. So we can say that it is
something that you need to learn.
AFTER INJECTIONS, DOES THE PATIENT
SEE ANY INSTANT CHANGE?
We have an instant augmentation that will
make the lady look better after one hour
when leaving the clinic. But the whole
effect will be seen after about one week
because the Hyaluronic Acid is taking up
water from the surrounding tissue and
rehydrating the whole area, and optimized
3 to 4 weeks after the injection.
WHAT CAN YOU RECOMMEND TO THE
READERS OF FIT 'N STYLE MAGAZINE?
I would recommend to every woman over
age of 30 to see a good aesthetic doctor
because the key to success is to look good
and prevent wrinkles. Today, if someone
above 30 comes to our clinic, we can
guarantee that no wrinkles will ever come,
we are working on prevention. My advice
to the readers of Fit 'n Style Magazine is
not to wait so long; you can consult a good
doctor and start using this little trick that
everyone does in Hollywood but no one
talks about.

PINK
WITH A
akeup is meant to help
women look beautiful at
all times, but with great
brands like Estée Lauder
and other large makeup
companies that care about women on all
levels, makeup has also become one of
the great tools used against breast cancer.
In this manner, Fit'n Style takes action by
encouraging every woman out there to
adopt the color pink this month to support
our sisters who are fighting to restore this
healthy blushed color on their faces and in
their lives.
BOURJOIS GLOSS
ROSE EXCLUSIF
According to the latest available data,
breast cancer is the most common type of
cancer diagnosed in women. In 2008, an
estimated number of 1.38 million women
were diagnosed around the world with this
disease. The probability of a woman being
diagnosed with breast cancer at some time
during her life is 1 out of 8 women. Nevertheless, at the present, there are more than
2.9 million breast cancer survivors in the
United States. This includes women who
are still fighting the disease and those who
have completed their treatment.
PURPOSE
BCA PINK RIBBON
• Launched in 1992 when Mrs. Evelyn H. Lauder came up with the
idea of the Pink Ribbon with SELF magazine
• BCA campaign is an initiative of the group of companies that
belong to Estée Lauder’s charity, and it is active in more than 70
countries
• The main mission of the BCA campaign: To defeat and eliminate
breast cancer through medical research and education
• Contributions collected so far: More than $48 million to support
global research, culture, and medical research; $38 million have
been invested in 152 research projects that belong to the BCRF organization during the past 20 years
How Can You Help?
Solidarity helps pave the way to success, and when we, all women,
decide to stand up against something, we always win. During the
month of October, when the breast cancer awareness campaign
takes place yearly, let’s all decide to wear pink makeup from various brands, in addition to the pink ribbon. There are numerous pink
products available in the market, as this color is never out of fashion.

WHAT’S IN FOR NAILS?
NEAT NAIL BEDS
Fixing your nails at home on a regular basis is really important. You
might visit the salon from time to time to get your nails done, but
revising the lesson at home is a must to maintain good nail quality.
During colder seasons, nails tend to become dry and cracked, and
that’s why hydration is one of the most important steps in nail
care. Apply your daily hand cream to your nail beds in case you
don’t have a special nail cream. When trimming your nails, be careful not to overcut them, keeping them all at the same length. Filing
nails also requires attention; file your nails in one direction without
filing the sides, which can make them even weaker.
Fall 2013 welcomes different nail trends to
beautify your fingertips and make them
appear as chic as ever. A few examples include metallic hues, 3D accents, twists with
the color black, oxblood, and all that falls in
the pink-purple category. No matter what
trend you prefer, start with a base coat and
always end with a shimmering top coat.

as vitamin A and vitamin C, which are considered to be your skin’s closest friends.
Packed with enzymes, this orange fruit
helps renew skin cells, turning your skin
color vibrant and alive. Listing the different
skin benefits of a pumpkin gives a clear
image of how it acts as a tasteful treat to
your skin…
• Pumpkin boosts collagen production
and thus fights the signs of aging
• With the help of zinc, it helps control oil
production and thus fights acne
• Since pumpkin molecules can easily
penetrate the surface of the skin, it helps
in preventing pigmentation
• With the help of vitamin E, pumpkins
build new cells and protect cell membranes, making a great barrier to the skin

an easy homemade recipe you can prepare
at home during the fall season:
Pumpkins are abundant in the fall season, but they can also be
found all year long in small cans from the market. This means your
skin and hair can be nourished and healed by pumpkins all year

used for Halloween décor, a pumpkin is surprisingly beautiful from
the inside, providing your beauty with a boost of benefits.

GYMS
RIP YOU OFF
GYMS ARE THE BEST PLACES TO GET A GREAT WORKOUT AND KEEP YOUR BODY FIT, BUT NOWADAYS,
GYM MEMBERSHIPS ARE BECOMING MORE AND MORE EXPENSIVE, NOT TO MENTION THAT MOST
REPUTED GYMS SEEM TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEIR MEMBERS IN SUBTLE WAYS. HERE IS HOW TO AVOID
GYM SCAMS AND SAVE SOME MONEY.
YEARLY MEMBERSHIP
Most gyms have yearly deals which seem to be saving your money,
but in fact, it’s a total rip-off unless you are a gym rat! When you first
join a gym, you might be super excited and motivated; however,
quite often stuff happens and you end up not going as much as you
initially planned. Gym salesmen push you to buy into those deals because they want to make more money and know that most people
who take yearly memberships stop showing up, which is pure profit
for them. These yearly packages are total rip-offs; it’s always preferable to stick to monthly packages, even if it costs a few dollars
more. You may save money in the end by not paying for the months
you have missed.
FACILITIES
Popular gyms make you pay for services that you don’t really use,
such as saunas, tennis courts, swimming pools, and child care.
Fancy gyms cost more to run, so they charge their members more
money. Don’t get us wrong, those treadmills with flat screen TVs
surely cost the gym a lot of money, but you’re not obliged to pay
for it! You don’t need those extras to stay fit, in fact, gyms don’t
make you fit - exercise makes you fit! Gyms are just a social club for
people to stay motivated to work out. If you want to save money,
pick a smaller gym with fewer amenities, especially if you just need
a club that has some cardio and strength equipment.
SUPPLEMENTS
Most gyms, if not all, sell supplements or protein shakes. First, we
would like to remind you that personal trainers are NOT nutritionists. They are NOT qualified to prescribe you any supplements. You
might notice that some trainers try to sell you stuff and somehow
convince you to buy supplements you don’t need; they certainly
get commission for selling. Some supplements, like fat burners,
may even affect heart functioning and are extremely dangerous to
certain people. They are unapproved by the Ministry of Health, but
because there is little control over gyms, they can go unnoticed.
Remember to always ask your doctor and your nutritionist before
buying any supplements.
CANCELLATION POLICY
If you sign a membership contract with a gym and for some reason
decide to quit, it can be very hard to break that contract. You might
end up paying for a gym you’re not even using. Avoid signing any
contracts, and if you really must, make sure you read the contract
very well. You might be signing to pay a cancellation penalty fee.
Also, remember to always pay cash, so if things don't go well, you
won't have to face any horrible surprises like your debit or credit
card being charged for months after membership cancellation.

THE KEY

PERFORMANCE
INTERVIEW WITH
HAYKAL MOUSSALLEM,
Athlete Consultant & International Runner
By | Jasmine Boyajian
SOMETIMES, A PERSON DOESN’T
CONSIDER (OR IGNORES) THE “ONE”
FACTOR THAT IS MOST IMPERATIVE
WHILE PERFORMING IN SPORTS. BUT
WHAT IS THAT FACTOR AND IS IT
ENOUGH TO PERFORM WELL? AND
HOW CAN IT HELP TO GAIN MAXIMUM
PERFORMANCE? HAYKAL MOUSSALLEM, AN ATHLETE CONSULTANT AND
INTERNATIONAL RUNNER, ANSWERS
THESE QUESTIONS AND MORE FOR
FIT'N STYLE MAGAZINE.
aykal holds a DUEPP (University European Diploma
of Physical Preparation) from Claude Bernard France
and a Masters degree in Movement Performance &
Health from Antonine University. He has also reached
the last level (level 5) IAAF (International Association of Athletics
Federation) in the jumping event. He currently works as a physical
trainer and consultant for many national athletes in sports ranging
from basketball, tennis, and volleyball, to skiing, swimming, and
martial arts. So let's discover what the “one” factor is that can
change it all...
66 Fit'n Style Oct 2013
FIRST OF ALL, TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR PROFESSIONAL
JOURNEY?
My journey started when I was 14 years old; I was playing basketball
at school when our sports coordinator noticed my speed on
“fast break” and advised me to start training as a sprinter. I
started training and competing, and then in 2008, I won the
Lebanese Championship in 100 meters individual and the long
jump competition. I participated in “Universiad World University
Championship” in Izmir and Bangkok, Asian Indoor games Macau
China, Asian championship Amman, Arab Championship in Jordan,
and the Arab games in Egypt. Recently, I launched ATP (Athletic
Training Performance), a refined, private gym facility for athletes
and everyone seeking high physical conditioning, preparation, and
fitness improvement.
MOTIVATION IS THE KEY TO MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE IN
SPORTS. HOW CAN MOTIVATION TRIGGER PERFORMANCE?
Motivation is the ability to initiate, persist, and keep going to
perform your best. It works on maintaining your efforts and bearing
all the difficulties. It is the only factor one can control that directly
impacts the level of success - especially in competitions - as it is the
only factor that differentiates athletes of nearly equal skills; it is
not be the ability that will determine the outcome, but rather the
determination and the motivation that will define who is likely to
win.
CAN MOTIVATION LEVELS VARY IN DIFFERENT SPORTS?
Not only is motivation different in each type of sport, it is rather
different to each and every individual as it is related to a person's
character. Some people has a self-sufficient drive inside of them
that motivates them to bear all the difficulties and go on; others
can’t do it without some reinforcement from coaches, peers, and
parents. What motivates one athlete may discourage another.
LET’S TAKE THE EXAMPLE OF A PERFORMER WHO WINS A
MEDAL VERSUS A PERFORMER WHO FAILS DURING A PARTICULAR COMPETITION. IS IT LIKELY THAT THE PERFORMER WILL FEEL DEPRESSED AFTER FAILURE? WHAT CAN BE
DONE IN ORDER TO BOOST MOTIVATION?
Goal setting is very valuable in motivating athletes, but what is
more important is to not lose the big perspective after a failure. It
is the role of a good coach to teach the performer how to benefit
from a competition and take it as a lesson for the next one as it
emphasizes the weak points to work on, rather than focusing on
the result. Coaches must constantly teach the idea that personal
improvement is the best gain in any competition; it is not whether
you get knocked down, it is whether you get up.
WHAT MENTAL FACTORS, OTHER THAN MOTIVATION, ARE
CONSIDERED CRUCIAL FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE?
There are many mental factors that help athletes get into the
right “frame of mind” to perform well. You have to badly want
to perform and improve yourself. It is the self-confidence that
you must rely on and never lose...on the contrary, it is the main
mental drive. This self-confidence can be attained individually, and
definitely, with the support of a coach. Your determination to do
this is called motivation and the intensity of it is called arousal.
Optimism is the key that makes you always look beyond all the
failures and never lose the will to go on. Commitment is the ability
to continue working towards the goals set, as setting goals allows
an athlete's progress to be planned and monitored. Concentration
and focus are also important as they determine the ability of an
athlete to focus their thoughts and energy into the task at hand
and ignore all the distractions and difficulties.

DURING THE FIRST TWO
MAIN PHASES OF OUR
EXISTENCE – YOUNG AGE
AND MIDDLE AGE – WE
USUALLY FOCUS
ON EDUCATION, A
CAREER, SOCIALIZING,
AND BUILDING A FAMILY.
ll of our actions are centered towards the realization of such goals and
the fulfillment of our aspirations. These achievements satisfy our physical and mental
being in these two life periods and we
are eager to carry out their full potential. But then, once we accomplish all
that and approach maturity, we start feeling that there is more
to life and that we ought to discover it.
When we were kids, we were taught by our parents that moral
laws, such as honesty and integrity, were the good principles to
abide by. We were rewarded by complying with these good values with emotional and material compensations… and we felt
encouraged and happy to receive the advantages of our good
behavior. But what about as adults? Do we still believe in compensations? What compensations...and from whom? Are there
advantages in being ethical? I am pretty sure that nine out of ten
people ask themselves: What are the bonuses of being decent?
What do we get by acting uprightly? Are our actions subject to
accountability?
Actually, there are no punishments or rewards, only consequences. We don’t get things in return for the quality of our
thoughts, feelings, and actions... at least sometimes not immediately... but we become more or less by them. We are constantly shaped to more or less evolved creatures by our proceedings,
and the more we are aware, the further we’re responsible… We
humans are already one of the most advanced living species in
the universe, and our status in it grows depending on the quality
of the life we live. Our thoughts and actions vibrate on a high,
positive frequency or on a low, negative frequency in the universe depending on their value; and the more we take positive
actions, the more we vibrate on higher frequencies.
70 Fit'n Style Oct 2013
Not all rewards are material, and maybe
the most important ones are not material.
Rising and evolving as creatures is more
of a gratifying and long-lasting achievement than amassing temporary, material
belongings. We should always be aware,
and remember the fact, that physically
we don’t live eternally. We won’t be able
to carry material things with us... we only
carry the quality of the self we managed
to realize during our lifetime on earth. Our
life performances (thoughts and actions)
determine the quality and the progress of
our self or soul; we, our-selves, are shaped
into less or more subtle, pure substances
in the universe and the more balance/perfection we achieve, the more we are on a
higher plane and influential in the vast cosmic realm. Humans follow a spiral progression upwards.
I am becoming more and more convinced
that practically all people are more ignorant than bad, and the
negative exists only because of the prevalence of ignorance
worldwide. Of course, we achieved a quantum leap in technology that outstripped our ability to cope with it…. Thus, the turning to a source for inner strength is inevitable as a process of
humanity catching up with itself, an inner sighting to match the
energy of discovery in scientific areas, to the centre, the inner
realm, to balance the outer, so we can direct our energies to
act, not to react….
We need to know ourselves, to search for and understand the
cosmic laws we live by, and how the universe functions – the
strong correlation between its elements: matter, energy, and
intelligence – the absolute truths are there in front of us, with
us, simple, clear, undeniable... we live with them daily, seasonally; we only have to notice them. The unawareness of these
simple truths is not justified anymore in the 21st century as the
human mind developed sensibly….
Using only our physical and mental abilities brings into play a
part of our potential. Balancing it by discovering ourselves, the
spiritual central element part, will complete us. Nobody out
there will account for our actions; we vibrate on high or low frequencies in the universe depending on the positivity or negativity of our thoughts and proceedings, attracting the corresponding consequences…We are doers, active doers and creators in
this universe.

SEX QUICKIES
STEAMY TIPS FOR
SELF-SATISFACTION
WHAT IF I TOLD YOU THAT OVER 90 PERCENT
OF MEN AND WOMEN HAVE MADE MASTURBATION... AKA SOLO SEX... A PART OF THEIR ROUTINE SEX LIFE? THE DAYS OF NEGATIVITY HAVE
LONG GONE.... AND LUCKILY SO... BECAUSE SELF
-PLEASURING CAN REALLY BE A GREAT THING TO
EXPLORE. DID YOU KNOW THAT MOST PEOPLE
WILL EXPERIENCE THEIR VERY FIRST ORGASM
ALL ON THEIR OWN? YUP! IF YOU ARE STILL
SOMEWHERE IN THE 10% THAT HAVEN'T GOTTEN
ON THE BANDWAGON...HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO
GET YOU STARTED:
Think sexy and fantasize!
Let your imagination go wild! Thinking about someone other than
your mate is not a bad thing. Most men and women admit to fantasizing about other people while having sex and masturbating. Go
ahead...it's all innocent.
Don't stay quiet!
Most cries of passion during sex are actually for the sake of our
partner's pleasure...not for our own. And we tend to do the opposite during solo sex; most of us have been conditioned to stay quiet
while masturbating to avoid getting caught. Now that you're all
grown up, let your voice be heard and yell like you mean it.
72 Fit'n Style Oct 2013
WILL IT HAPPEN AGAIN?
ONCE A CHEATER...ALWAYS A CHEATER! THAT'S WHAT WE ALL USED TO SAY AND THINK.
WHILE GETTING CHEATED ON CAN BE DEVASTATING, IT DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN
THAT YOUR RELATIONSHIP NEEDS TO COME TO AN END, ACCORDING TO MANY EXPERTS.
NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT DOES DEPEND ON THE TYPE OF PERSON YOUR SWEETHEART IS...
AND WHAT LED HIM OR HER TO CHEAT.
Plain and simple: fidelity is not always easy.
However there are numerous reasons behind the cheating ways of many. Some individuals cheat due to sexual boredom....
while others cheat because they are depressed, are infatuated with another, or
are in some kind of denial. Then there are
those who were simply born to cheat.
ASK YOURSELF THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS TO FIGURE OUT IF YOUR MATE IS
A KEEPER:
1. Was the fling admitted or did they
get caught in the act? If your lover ad-
mits and confesses about their infidelity, it
is a positive sign and proves they must feel
regret. If they got caught and admit the
truth – that also indicates remorse. However, if you caught them and they continue
to deny it, you are in trouble.
Lube it up!
Lubricant can be a great companion when self-pleasuring is in the
works. You can also use warm water from the tap to get your genitals moist and ready to go. Before long, you will experience orgasmic pleasure throughout your entire body. Enjoy it!!
Think outside of the box!
Forget the washroom...and forget your bed. Solo sex can be exciting when done in unexpected places. Take a mid-day break and do
your thing in a safe but unusual place. The excitement will get you
'off' like never before.
2. Does your love have a history of
cheating on others? If this is the case...
chances are you are going to recognize a
pattern. Monogamy may be the last thing
on their mind. They cannot change; you either accept an open kind of relationship or
forget it.
Change it up!
Just like you might change positions with your lover, change your
position when masturbating as well. Your self-pleasuring routine
can bring you to new hills and valleys. Enjoy and discover.
OOPS, I BROKE
YOUR PENIS!
No need to cry over spilled milk...but a broken penis? That's a whole
other story!! So here it is in black and white: you can break a penis... considering it is wood hard at the time of breakage. While an
erect penis does not contain actual bones, it does hold within tubes
that fill with blood during its hard phase. The concern comes with
the rupturing of the lining of these tubes as a result of trauma or
unexpected bending. A broken penis usually involves a breaking
sound in addition to bruising. A doctor must inspect it right away.
The complications that can arise from this painful situation include
erectile issues. While penile fractures are not too common... you
should thrust with care. Don't make any quick or unexpected move
while on top of your partner...it could be detrimental.
IF YOUR LOVER CHEATS ONCE...
3. Is your lover willing to work on
themselves?
SEXY SOCKS
Your relationship may have a chance if your
lover understands what life events led to
the cheating (poor boundaries, low self esteem, feeling distance within the relationship, etc.) and wants to work on the issues
at hand.
FOR SATISFYING SEX?
While
socks and
sandals remain a huge
no-no...it seems socks in bed
during sex is an enormous yesyes!!!!!! A study out of the UK found
that 80% of couples who wore socks
during sexual intercourse were able to
reach orgasm - compared to 50% who
were barefoot. So forget your cold
feet and rely on your snuggly
socks to reach new sexual
heights.

MAKING
PROTECTION
SEXIER
By | Sandy Janichian
PUT THE SUBJECT ON THE
TABLE
Since sex cannot be 100% safe due to the risky exposure to body
fluids and skin-to-skin contact, it is highly important for partners to
assess their levels of risk, open up, and carry out a mandatory conversation. Discussing the use of protection before sex removes discomfiture and anxiety, which leaves more room for uninterrupted
fun. Talk about how to put barriers on right and use them in ways
that feel good. Imagine together how you can try something new
and find greater sexual satisfaction. Discussing the issue makes it
easier to get creative and frisky. Promoting an assertive, responsible, educated, and bright character when it comes to sex puts you
under the most flattering light and grants you a compelling sexual
appeal.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR PLEASURE
KIT
Think of it as a treasure box that you both share when the doors
close that expands with every new experience. Keep in mind that
every pleasure kit has to have a naughty assortment of latex and
ointment.
CONDOMS: Lubricated, flavored, easy-roll, extra-thin, and ribbed...
they are the most user-friendly barriers.
A C-RING: Make it a consolation prize for him wearing a condom.
The ring’s vibrations offer extra pleasure.
DENTAL DAM/CLING FILM BARRIER: For rimming, going down on
a woman, or engaging in oral-anal contact...this is a must have.
GLOVES: Great for fingering and hand jobs; they come in many colors, much more fun than the typical medical white gloves.
WATER-BASED LUBE: Prevents barrier breakage and skin damage
making it less likely to spread or catch an infection.
WORK THE ANTICIPATION TO
THE FULLEST
Start by shopping together for novelties with tempting colors, fla-
Fit'n Style Oct 2013
vors, and textures. Keeping them handy
can be turned into a game! Why not leave
the barrier of choice lying on a pillow, stash
it in a purse with a note on it, or wrap it in
an undergarment and slip it next to the
driver’s seat? To send a naughty invite, play
with the barrier when your lover is watching you unroll it, unfold it, smell it, taste
it…. Kiss, stroke, talk naughty, and do a
little frottage, then slide it on as soon as
there is a partial or full erection.
DOING IT SOLO IS
NOT YOUR ONLY
OPTION
The best part about a romantic partnership
is that you get to do it together. Here are
some tricks that will thrill you under the
sheets and put you in the mood for wearing latex.
CONDOM: If he is reluctant to put one on,
offer to do it for him, and add your own
special touch. Try dabbing some edible gel
onto the condom, licking it off and putting
it on while stimulating the genitals... or why
not roll it on with your mouth?
VAGINAL SHEATH: Have your man wear
some gloves, preheat some lubricant, borrow a stethoscope, and play doctor.
DENTAL DAMS: Suck, snap, and nibble on
them to create different sensations (not
the cling wrap though).
AFTER PLAY: Penile vitamin creams protect men and their partners from adverse
genital related problems.
Unless you stick to a strict diet of abstinence, fantasy, mutual masturbation, or
unexposed monogamous relationships,
safer sex is the only way to experiment
with your own sexuality while scoring, at
the same time, your wettest, hottest, most
memorable STD/HIV and pregnancy free
orgasms. Erotizing the use of the various
barriers flooding the market is a first step,
and it takes mutual effort to make it happen… to experience the wholesome yet
cheeky fun of safe, sound, sexy lovemaking. Maintaining a constant communion on
all levels is the glue that keeps you feeling
supported, appreciated, and willing to be
as sexy as you can be. No glove, no love is a
clever equation.

WHY
MASTURBATION
IS GOOD FOR YOUR SEX LIFE!
YOU READ THAT RIGHT; MASTURBATION IS ACTUALLY GOOD FOR SEXUAL HEALTH. MOST MEN ADMIT TO MASTURBATING REGULARLY, AND THOSE WHO DON’T ARE PROBABLY LYING!
asturbation is something very normal and should
not be viewed as taboo. Research shows that
40 percent of men and 30 percent of women in
relationships also masturbate. This might sound
a little perverted, but sex therapists claim that
in every successful relationship, a little self-pleasuring goes a long
way. In fact, even though some may think solo sex will ruin their relationship, recent studies show that couples who masturbate have
more sexually satisfying relationships than those who don’t. Read
on to find out how.
1. HEALTH BENEFITS
For women, masturbation increases circulation in the female sexual organs and may help prevent cervical and urinary tract infection; the lubrication flushes out all unfriendly organisms that might
cause infection. Masturbation also eases menstrual cramps. As for
men, masturbation helps get rid of old sperm and reduces the risk
of prostate cancer. Masturbation is also a stress buster; it can relieve tension and help you relax. It’s a great mood lifter thanks to
the hormone levels of dopamine and epinephrine, which increase
immediately after arousal. Studies also show that these hormones,
along with other chemicals released during orgasm, can heal depression and treat insomnia; masturbation is the best sleeping pill
you can have!
76 Fit'n Style Oct 2013
2. SELF EXPLORATION
With masturbation, you get in touch with your sexuality and learn
more about your sexual likes. Self touch can teach you everything
about your body - where and how you like to be touched. When you
learn to please yourself, you can show your partner what you like
during sex and allow him/her to please you in the way that works
for you. Also, witnessing a partner masturbate can teach you which
methods your partner uses so you can learn what he/she enjoys.
Masturbation is like practicing how to have better sex. Research
shows that women who masturbate are more likely to have orgasms during intercourse than those who don’t, probably because
they know exactly how to get turned on.
3. RESCUE YOUR LIBIDO
They say ‘if you don’t use it, you lose it.’ This is also true about sex;
if you stay for a long time without any sexual activity, your appetite
for sex can decrease. It will also make it more difficult for men to
control their erection and for women to achieve lubrication. Masturbation will help you maintain your healthy sex drive and keep the
machine running. Pelvic muscle tone is yet another thing you lose if
you don’t work it; masturbating works out the pelvic floor muscles.
This can help men control ejaculation in order to last longer in bed,
and it also prevents erectile dysfunction. As for women, having
strong pelvic muscles can help achieve stronger orgasms and also
helps against involuntary urine leakage.

INTERVIEW WITH RITA CHEMALY -
Researcher, Author, and Women’s Rights Activist
By | Jasmine Boyajian
THE PROBLEM IS THAT WOMEN IN LEBANON
ARE BOMBARDED WITH SOCIAL BIASED
PICTURES; THEY WON’T BE ABLE TO SEE THE
PREJUDICE AND DISCRIMINATION AFTER A WHILE. A SMALL
BOY AND A SMALL GIRL ARE INFLUENCED BY THOSE ADS
SUCH AS THE “BABYBOTTE” AND “BARBIE" ADS! LEGO
GAME TOYS ARE USUALLY INTENDED FOR BOYS THAT WILL
HELP HIM USE HIS BRAIN, WHILE BARBIE DOLLS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR GIRLS, FOR HER TO PAMPER AND
INTEGRATE THE IMAGE OF THE MOTHER SHE WILL ONE
DAY BECOME! WE LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE STEREOTYPES,
RELATED TO GENDER ROLE DIVISION, ARE VERY DIFFICULT
TO OVERCOME, BUT WE CAN DO IT BY DIFFERENTIATING
BETWEEN THE BIASED IMAGES/GAMES AND THE NONBIASED ONES,” EXPLAINED RITA CHEMALY, RESEARCHER,
AUTHOR, AND WOMEN’S RIGHTS ACTIVIST. FIT’N STYLE
MAGAZINE TALKED TO RITA DURING AN INTERVIEW.
WHAT IS THE MAIN REASON THAT WOMEN HAVE BEEN OBJECTIFIED IN THE MEDIA?
The media complex uses women’s bodies to sell more via
discriminatory images. Ads use women’s charm and display them
to attract attention. These images are so commonly stamped in the
public’s minds that we help in reproducing the stereotypical roles
of women and men.
SEXUALIZED VIOLENCE IS USED IN MANY ADS, WHICH
PORTRAY WOMEN AS “VICTIM” SEX OBJECTS AND MEN AS
“VIOLENT” AGGRESSORS. HOW CAN THIS HAVE AN INFLUENCE ON WOMEN’S PSYCHOLOGY?
Women do integrate such ads and won’t see the prejudice and
discrimination they create. Images and social roles (women as
housewives and men as house caretakers and society saviors) are so
commonly engraved in our subconscious that we usually replicate
them over and over! Actually, I was so glad when my brother-in-law
wrote to me, “Let your husband help you iron your future newborn
clothes, this task is not just for women!”
HOW DO YOU THINK MEN PERCEIVE SUCH ADS?
The problem is, in my opinion, that women and men are influenced
by those ads which affect public opinion as a whole. Women
and men are adjusting - this is the main problem - and becoming
accustomed to such images to the extent of considering them
acceptable and normal!
DO YOU CONSIDER MEDIA THE PRIMARY PLATFORM FOR
WOMEN OBJECTIFICATION?
Media is certainly the primary platform responsible for women
objectification, but women should also be held accountable. What
makes the situation more complicated is that women contribute to
the reproduction of the dominant patriarchal culture, which in turn
reinforces stereotypes. If we as women accept to see bodies and
the use of our bodies in such ads, then we are only reinforcing the
stereotypes, instead of stopping them.
Is it normal to use a woman’s body to market a car or any other
product? Do you see any link? Think about it!

ROPE FOR
1 MINUTE.
ou have 8.5 minutes to complete the entire sequence with
no breaks. The best time to do
this workout is either between
or at the end of your warm up. Turn off
your cell phone, draw your eyebrows together, and get your angry look on. Be the

workout below - then we can talk about
who is fit!
To get started, put your sneakers on, grab
a bottle of water, a resistance band, 2
dumbbells, and a matt, and get ready to
sweat. The following sequence is intense.
Please consult with a doctor or trainer if
you are unsure if this is the right workout
for you.

2
Grab a set of challenging dumbbells and quickly work your triceps
extensions for 30 seconds at your personal best rate. To get into
the position, stand up, lean forward, roll your shoulders back,
reach your arms back up toward the ceiling, bend your elbows so
your thumbs face your armpits, and extend your arms back. Keep
the elbows fixed. Repeat for 30 seconds.
3
Get ready for 30 seconds of jumping lunges. To start: stand up, bring the right foot
forward, and go into lunge position. Make
sure your knee is over your ankle. Use your
hands to help you jump and allow your
opposite foot to land into lunge position.
Repeat this sequence for 30 seconds.
4
Get into a low lunge position (knee on the ground) and grab your
dumbbell for bicep curls. Allow your right elbow to touch your
right inner thigh and roll your shoulder back. Add a little gear by
pressing your elbow into your inner thigh and focusing on extending your spine. Engage your bicep and bring the dumbbell to your
right shoulder; slowly extend back down to the floor (avoid locking elbows). Repeat 30 seconds on the right arm, 30 seconds on
the left arm.

5
Get into a squat position by standing up and imagining you are
sitting back on a chair, then freeze. Push the buttock muscles back
and lengthen your spine, use your arms to jump your squat, and
softly land for 30 seconds.
8
Stand
up and imagine
you are celebrating
a victory as you use your
legs and arms to jump in the
air. Do 30 seconds of power
jumps with the right foot
leading and 30 seconds of
power jumps with the
left foot leading.
6
Stand up and grab your weights. Roll your shoulders back, engage
your shoulders, and raise your arms up to shoulder height, hold,
and then slowly release back to your hips for 30 seconds.

Sit down on the floor, pull your knees into
your chest with hands behind the head,
and lengthen your spine. Engage your
abdominals and twist for 30 seconds.
For advanced, legs can be at a 45-degree
angle, or come in and out as you twist your
abdominals.

9
Sit down on the floor and roll over to your right hip while lengthening your legs outward. Engage your abdominals and lift your top
leg up and down while focusing on control and strength. Perform
30 seconds per leg.
Do
push-ups for 30
seconds or place your resistance band on something such
as a pole that does not move. Hold
your resistance band and step forward
until you feel the resistance is challenging.
Step one foot forward for balance, engage
your abdominals and pecs, and reach your
arms out in front of you. Slowly bend
your arms back, keeping the elbows
elevated, and repeat the
exercise. Perform for 30
seconds.
12
10
Stand up and do 30 seconds of frog jumps or 30 seconds of jumping jacks. To do frog jumps, go into a squat position and use your
legs, gluteus, and hands to jump as high as you can, landing softly.
Repeat for 30 seconds. For advanced: add a bicep curl for fun
while you jump up.
Repeat step one for 30 seconds, and then
slowly begin your cool down. Focus on
gradually bringing your heart rate back
down, and then continue your fitness routine. To keep your workout creative, use
the above steps, and change the order after step one. Remember that fitness starts
with a strong mind, a goal, and then the
physical strength, endurance, and so forth
will come with proper training, nutrition,
and fluid intake.
11
Sit down on you resistance band and place your feet forward. Grab
your band from underneath and reach your arms forward and up
to the ceiling. Pause, then release. Do your personal best for 30
seconds.

AND WOMEN IN FRONT HAVE COLLABORATED TOGETHER TO HIGHLIGHT ON WOMEN
ENTREPRENEURSHIP DURING A FULL-DAY
EVENT, WHICH WAS A MEETING POINT FOR
WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS, SPECIALISTS, AND
FEMALES INTERESTED IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP.
FIT’N STYLE MAGAZINE HAD THE CHANCE TO
INTERVIEW BOTH PARTIES. LET’S START WITH
GHALIA BOUSTANI, MANAGING PARTNER OF
BOOK OF CHARMS.
WHY DID BOOK OF CHARMS ADOPT THE CONCEPT OF
WOMAN ENTREPRENEURSHIP?
Book of Charms adopted the concept of woman entrepreneurship
to focus on the development of creative ideas into sustainable businesses. Women need to take a step forward by spotting opportunities and putting them to use. They need to have the proper guidance and knowledge/know-how to deploy skills and invest in the
necessary assets for spotted opportunities. Book of Charms aims at
providing novel solutions and delivering services that support entrepreneurial businesses or start-ups.
TELL US ABOUT THE COLLECTIVE OF WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS. WHO ARE THEY AND WHAT DO THEY HAVE IN
COMMON?
The collective of women entrepreneurs aimed at putting together
women who have set up or are still setting up their ventures. The
“collective” includes female entrepreneurs within the design industry. Hasmig Boyadjian is specialized in Conscious Design and Communication; Sandra Younes specializes in Art Direction, Pearls/Precious
Stones Design; and Taghrid El Hage is specialized in Fashion Design
and Styling. The important denominator between the collaborating
women entrepreneurs was “a business venture that is based on continuous learning and sharing knowledge and experiences.”
THE GUEST SPEAKERS CHOSE TO GIVE SPEECHES ON VARIOUS TOPICS REGARDING WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP.
WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF THE TALKS?
Talks delivered during “Meet the Women Entrepreneurs” event
were held by professionals specialised in the field. The purpose was
to highlight areas that professional women will encounter when
they are engaging in a business set-up. The audience was able to
get the highlights and important guidelines that will set the basis of
entrepreneurial environment.
AFTER THIS EVENT, WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP?
Entrepreneurship requires personal effort and a lot of research.
However, the act of engaging in a venture's setup would be easier
if there was quality guidance and access to the right information.
The role of Book of Charms is to provide solutions, guidance, and
information relevant to the entrepreneur and her venture.
86 Fit'n Style Oct 2013
Fit’n Style Magazine also interviewed Pascale
Abdallah, project director and core member
in Women in Front.
WHY DO YOU, AS AN ORGANIZATION, SUPPORT WOMEN
ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN PARTICULAR? WHY DID YOU COLLABORATE FOR THIS EVENT?
We, as an NGO, are eager to encourage women to be more involved
on an economic level. Entrepreneurship is a mean that could be a
good start for empowering women and helping them to gain autonomy by following their passion. And women supporting women
is the best example we could give in terms of solidarity. Moreover,
this kind of support is in compliance with our vision and mission,
and constitutes a step further to reach our goals. We were also
seduced by the proposition, the enthusiasm, and the seriousness
of these young entrepreneurs - and we seized the opportunity to
launch the first workshop of a series of workshops aiming at building women’s capacities on an economic and personal level.
WHAT POSITIVE CHANGE WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE AFTER
THE SERIES OF WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP EVENTS?
First of all, we believe it is important to raise awareness regarding
the role that women should play on the economic level and their
participation in the economic growth. Through this cooperation,
we are betting on highlighting successful women to be role models for others. By being successful in their endeavor, women will
gain confidence and will have the means to finance their projects
and serve their agendas. We sincerely hope that they will be able to
voice their rights and be more influential in the process of decision
making. Last, but not least, such projects fit perfectly in rural areas
and could be a push or even a gateway for women on the local level
through offering them the possibility to achieve something that
could be simple, yet very meaningful.
REGARDING THE MENTORING DEPARTMENT FOR FEMALE
STARTUPS, WHAT WILL BE THE MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT?
The mission of the mentoring department will mainly be to encourage young women to start their own businesses, as well as help
them to connect with financial groups and investors. We will also
provide a series of training sessions to build their managerial capacities. The more we help them and provide the support needed
for them to start their business, the more we will be increasing the
chances to see other women be inspired and follow the path.
WHAT IS YOUR MESSAGE TO WOMEN WHO ARE WILLING
TO START THEIR OWN BUSINESSES?
We would like them to join the circle and get the support needed
to start their businesses. When there is a will, there is always a way.

SUCCESS
IS IN YOUR HANDS
INTERVIEW WITH DR. CHADI AZOURY, AUTHOR OF “THE 77 SECRETS OF SUCCESS”
By | Jasmine Boyajian
LET OTHERS THINK THAT THERE IS A SHORTCUT TO SUCCESS; NOT YOU.
LET OTHERS STAY DREAMERS. YOU BECOME A DOER.
LET OTHERS USE THE WORD “I CAN’T.”
YOU USE THE WORD “I CAN.”
LET OTHERS MAKE A LIVING.
YOU DESIGN A LIFE.
These are some of the motivational quotes
by the author of “The 77 Secrets of Success™”. Dr. Chadi Azoury has been studying
the topic of success for more than 6 years.
He has conducted interviews with over 50
successful people in Lebanon, all included
in his book. Dr. Azoury is also a success/personal development trainer and a lecturer at
several prestigious universities in Lebanon
such as Notre Dame University-Louaize and
Lebanese Canadian University. Fit 'n Style
magazine had the opportunity to uncover
the secrets behind success with Dr. Azoury.
HOW CAN YOU DEFINE SUCCESS
AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO
WRITE ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR
TOPIC?
Success is being distinguished in any type
of career: as a teacher, a salesperson, a
football player, a mother, etc. I used to
read a lot about this topic and I have always
loved the theory behind success, personal
development, and self-help books. I discovered that there wasn’t a single book in the
world that described everything related to
success. My aim was to write one book that
covers everything one should know when
it comes to success. This became the competitive advantage of “The 77 Secrets of
Success™”.
88 Fit'n Style Oct 2013
WHY DO YOU CONSIDER SUCCESS
IMPORTANT FOR THE LEBANESE
PEOPLE?
Most university students think that success
is for someone else - or maybe for special
people with special genes. They may even
think that they need to have a high IQ or
'connections' in order to achieve something great. That’s not true. Success is for
everyone. If you wish to become successful, then you will find it simple and easy.
YOU HAVE INTERVIEWED 50 TOP
SUCCESSFUL LEBANESE INDIVIDUALS AND THEY ARE PORTRAYED IN
YOUR BOOK. DID THEY HAVE MENTORS OR WERE THEY THEIR OWN
MENTORS? DO YOU THINK THAT
THE NEW GENERATION HAS THE
ADVANTAGE OF HAVING MENTORSHIP ASSISTANCE IN THEIR LIVES?
Most of them were their own mentors, if
not all of them. For example, when I sat
with Antoine Kerbej, the famous actor, he
told me that at the young age of 4, he was
always in the hospital. However, according
to him, his sickness was not a problem, he
simply wanted to become more and more
successful. So you should not worry if you
have problems in life - this could be your
way or your chance to overcome all of life's
obstacles. In Lebanon, there are no special
people who can give you assistance in your
career. That is my mission now. I can offer success trainings for municipalities, for
banks, for any group of individuals. Basically, it’s a plan you apply step by step.
DID YOU INCLUDE YOUR OWN
EXPERIENCE AND SECRETS IN THE
BOOK?
I have included some stories, but the book
is not about me. After writing this book, I
decided that I want to become successful
in what I do. My book is about the pioneers
- what they did and how they became successful. Among the 50 individuals in general, my objective was to discover what they
had in common. Success comes in three
steps mainly: 1. Decide what to do or have.
2. Search for what you need in order to improve. 3. Go do it.
YOU SHOULD NOT
WORRY IF YOU HAVE
PROBLEMS IN LIFE THIS COULD BE YOUR
WAY OR YOUR CHANCE
TO OVERCOME ALL OF
LIFE'S OBSTACLES
The road to success is not easy. You will encounter many problems and you will make
plenty of mistakes, but that's okay. You
should still try to reach for your target.
WHY DO THE BEST SUCCESS STORIES USUALLY START WITH FAILURE?
It’s true. Even Michael Jordan, the famous
basketball player, used to say that he faced
many problems in life. This is why he succeeded. He kept going. Maybe some of
you will need a push from someone telling
you to hang on to your dreams. It’s ideal
to have your own motivation come from
within, but at the same time, your teacher
can be your motivator, your parents, your
friends, or your lover.
SOME PEOPLE ARE PERFECTIONISTS. DOES SUCCESS REQUIRE
PERFECTION?
Not at all. Forget about perfection, you will
never reach it. Always seek excellence instead. Mentally, people should know that
they will never attain perfection. It is not
for us, it’s for God. So if you work your way
to excellence, it’s more than enough. As
they say: “Very few people are on the top.”
IN THE AWARD-WINNING MOVIE
“FORREST GUMP,” TOM HANKS AS
FORREST GUMP HAD A LOW IQ BUT
BECAME A VERY SUCCESSFUL PERSON. HOWEVER, HE WASN’T HAPPY
BECAUSE THERE WAS SOMETHING
MISSING IN HIS LIFE, WHICH WAS
LOVE. WHAT CAN BE THE SECRET
TO HAPPINESS?
This is my plan for another book; I am going
to write about the secrets of happiness. In
my readings, I discovered an intrinsic fact
that happiness and success are very much
related. But someone can be successful in
his/her career and not be a happy person.
Secrets of happiness rely on three factors:
good health, a successful career, and good
relationships. If any one of these factors is
missing, happiness seems to be affected.
Have healthy relationships with your family, friends, coworkers, and the person you
love.
YOU ARE A SUCCESS AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINER.
DO LIFE COACHING AND SUCCESS /
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING HAVE ANY COMMON GROUND?
Life coaching is about focusing on targets
and showing someone the way to a particular target. A Life Coach is different than a
psychologist. Life coaching can mainly be
about where someone wants to go in life
and the coach can offer help. In my opinion,
success and personal development should
be for everyone. One study claims that the
human brain keeps on growing until the
age of 25; so maybe this is why many think
young people by are still foolish and immature. After the age of 25, individuals usually
think more about their career and success.
Personal development should start between ages 25 and 35. Most of the people
that I have interviewed in my book knew
that they will become successful even by
the age of 20. For example, George Khabbaz knew that he would become an actor
by the age of 4.
HOW CAN YOU HELP A PERSON
WHO HAS BOTH THE PASSION AND
THE WILL TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS?
Both passion and will are requirements.
The first secret in my book is all about "desiring success.” I cannot help you or give
you any plan or strategies if you don’t want
to become successful. I can persuade you
in order to desire success. My advice to the
readers of Fit 'n Style is that if you have the
passion and the desire for success, you just
need to attend some training sessions and
read books related to your area of interest
and career in order to become better and
successful. “Let others think that successful people are born with special genes, but
not you.”

CANON DEVELOPS NEW PICTURE STYLE FOR EOS DSLRS
PHILIPS SATINPERFECT:
SAY HELLO TO HAIR
FREE SMOOTH SKIN
Canon Middle East announces the release of a new in-camera
Picture Style pre-set for its range of EOS DSLRs. Created following direct feedback from
video enthusiasts, the new Picture Style, called Video Camera X–series-look, enables users
to capture EOS Movie footage with lower contrast levels, allowing for easier colour grading
during post production processes.
Philips introduces the Philips SatinPerfect epilator which guarantees long-lasting results with minimum effort and in no
time at all.
Similar to that available in Canon’s range of X-series camcorders, the new Picture Style
works by lowering colour saturation levels and contrast during filming. This makes it ideal
for videographers during post production grading processes, especially if complementing
with pre-existing footage shot with Canon’s X-series models, or alternatively for those who
instantly want to add atmosphere to Full HD movies. In addition, the new Picture Style can
also be applied to still images captured in RAW or JPEG formats.
Philips understands that the key to feeling feminine is to have beautiful smooth
skin every day, so SatinPerfect has been
designed to help women achieve smooth
perfection while giving their skin the care
it needs.
At the core of SatinPerfect’s new design and technology, is the unique Skin
Perfect System that effectively removes
fine, short hairs while still protecting
the skin. Able to achieve smooth skin in
minutes and can be used either wet or
dry, the epilator features unique ceramic
discs, and hypoallergenic silver-ion discs
to maximize skin hygiene and avoid skin
being pulled. Additionally, the wider
head design enables it to operate faster
and more conveniently, thereby removing more hair in one easy stroke.

TIPS
SPICEY
ADVICEY...
B e t
you didn't know
that "when" you add your
spices to a recipe can make all the
difference when it comes to powerful flavor. The key to any flavorful dish is
all about timing. The rule of thumb is: the
earlier the better. As you heat up your choice
of oil in a sauté pan, spices explode with flavor and become rich in taste when added
at the beginning. Many people add their
spices towards the end of the cooking
process... however, spices won't release their kick if added at this
point in time.
ALUMINUMFOIL 101
Items you don't need
to refrigerate...
• HOT SAUCE: This spicy concoction can
stay in your cupboard safely for a couple
of years.
• BREAD: Placing bread in the fridge will
actually dry it out! Keep at room temperature for a few days and freeze the rest.
• COFFEE: The fridge can create condensation which may affect the flavor of your coffee. Keep it in an airtight container in your
cupboard rather than in the cold fridge.
• TOMATOES: Keep these juicy items on
your counter where they can ripen and
enrich in flavor. The cold fridge will make
them spongy and dry.

Food For
Thought!
Having difficulty remembering where you put
your keys? Fill up on these food items to keep
your mind alert and functioning:
BERRIES: Most berries are high in protective antioxidants! Go for blue...straw...and
cran to keep your brain working effectively.
BROWN CARBS: Whole grains such as
brown rice and whole wheat bread provide
much needed fuel for your brain.
COFFEE AND WINE: These are winners within reason - for a boost of antioxidants...
great for memory.
SEAFOOD: Fish rich in omega 3 fatty acids
can improve the retention of brain cells!
FOIL PAPER IS A MUST HAVE ITEM IN
ANY KITCHEN! HERE ARE A FEW SMART
WAYS TO PUT IT TO GREAT USE:
• Get savvy with your outdoor grill by making a packet to cook your favorite foods in.
Loosely wrap up an entire fish or a medley
of your favorite veggies; add some fresh
herbs and lemon slices for great aroma.
Make some small slits in the foil before putting it on the grill.
• Create the perfect grill brush! A clean grill
keeps your favorite foods from sticking
- and if you don't have a wire brush to do
the trick on hand - crumble up a ball of foil
paper, hold onto it with tongs, and scrape
away at your grill.
• Make a tent with your aluminum foil!
Keep your steak warm by loosely covering
it with foil paper...as it cools down, the flavorful juices remain within before cutting
into and enjoying.

pomegranate seeds (optional).
Batinjan makdous can be part of a healthy diet, as eggplant is low
in calories (around 30 calories per cup) and high in fiber. It is known
to decrease the risk of liver problems and diabetes, and lower total blood cholesterol. Additionally, it contains many antioxidants,
among which is chlorogenic acid that can protect you against microbial and viral activities and against high LDL cholesterol levels (bad
cholesterol). The walnut filling does the rest! Walnuts are known to
contain good fats that decrease bad cholesterol (LDL) and increase
good cholesterol (HDL) in your blood. In doing so, walnuts are your
heart’s best friends and your brain’s too! Make sure to drain the
olive oil off the Batinjan Makdous prior to consumption, as we don’t
want you to reap the benefits from one side and have those stubborn extra kilos sneak in secretly.
7 | Widen the opening of the slit and fill each eggplant with the
filling just prepared.
8 | Once the eggplants have been filled, layer them in a jar and
turn it upside down. Leave it for a couple of days, until there is no
more water getting released from it.
9 | Return the jar back to an upright position and soak the egg-
plants with olive oil. Set aside for 5 days, after which you can
start enjoying the authentic taste of tradition that we unfortunately are missing on.

WATCH YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE!
Sanofi, the global healthcare leader, dedicated a day to detect hypertension diseases within an awareness campaign in collaboration with
the Research Unit in the Department of Cardiology in Hotel-Dieu de
France Hospital and with the support of ABC mall. The team in HotelDieu de France Hospital measured the blood pressure of the visitors
of the ABC Mall and asked some exploratory questions regarding this
disease in order to spread awareness among citizens and warn them
about the complications and symptoms of hypertension. “Hypertension is one of the dangerous diseases and is known as the 'silent killer.'
Everyone can have hypertension for many years without any symptoms. Here lies the importance of this campaign, because neglecting
hypertension treatment leads to dangerous complications and raises
the risk of heart attacks and blood clots,” said Dr. Rabih Azar.

TRIDENT: THE TUB RACERS
Changing the world one bathtub at a time!
A "Bathtub Race" in the Middle East? This is definitely a first! With the
“The Tub Racers” activity that took place this past August, Trident
challenged the norm of the known vehicles for racing and decided to
create an 'out of the box' fun and entertaining context. This comes in
harmony with their new TVC (Bathtub) under their newest campaign:
“See What Unfolds.”
Trident invited media members to Faraya on the 14th of August to witness a rather surreal world of “Fun, Pleasure and Enjoyment” at the
Tub Racers - a spirit that is much cherished and sought out by Cadbury
Adams Middle East. Aiming at making “See What Unfolds” a one of
its kind brand communication, Trident translated the brand communication from television to the real world, assembling an unusual race.
Mr. Ralph Sayegh, Brand Manager for Trident, believes that today’s
generation is leading the market. He said, “It is a generation that is
creating change in the world today. They are willing to find ways to
live a life that is more fun.”
What started off as just a design on a computer screen... soon became
a reality with the 'bathtub with wheels' concept – somehow atypical.
This does not come as a surprise for Trident - a brand that has always
challenged itself and society in exciting ways. As part of the Bathtub
launching, Trident posted an application on their Facebook fan page
and all Smartphone stores that allowed users to design their own
bathtubs. All participants shared their designs with their Facebook
friends to gather as many votes as possible. After all submissions
were evaluated, the images then became a reality. The top 10 voted
designs were produced, allowing their designers to race them in the
fun race that took place in Faraya.
The winner of the Tub Racers, Mohamad Azhari, won a trip for two
to Ibiza, Spain. The other nine racers received various prizes such as a
Cabana for the weekend, a TV, an iPad, in addition to many other gifts.
As the world we live in today is in constant flux, Trident hopes to create an atmosphere of creativity, fun, inspiration, opportunity, and
passion. The “Long Lasting Flavour” gum is the “Spark That Liberates
Fun” through its wide range of fruity and minty flavours, thus, allowing Trident to be one of the leading innovative brands in the Lebanese
market.

October will not be an easy month for
you. In regards to business and money
concerns, this month will deserve some
special attention.

Reese Witherspoon. Her favorite fitness

Find a fitness pal now and start running!
Take care of yourself during the month
of October. Moderation is the key to anything right now in your life.

when it comes to fitness, and that could
be the winning formula for you as well.

Mia! and learn her dance moves in no
time.
This month will represent a period of
maximum potential that will necessitate
maturity. Grasp onto this energy and

half of October.

October poses as a month with significant erotic potential, so take advantage
of it! The second part of the month will
be quite active, but risky financially unfortunately.
Get Fit: Jennifer Lopez is Leo’s fitness inspiration and role model. Intense toning
exercises (that’s exactly how she keeps
that derriere so curvy) combined with
dance moves make her body absolutely
flawless.
This month will be full of sentimental and
sensual opportunities. Don't miss out on
your chance to reap the benefits!
Get Fit: Stay golden like Goldie Hawn
with this diva’s workout schedule. Dance
is a key factor in her workout routine,
which she balances with meditation and
yoga. Being older doesn’t have to lead to
a sedentary lifestyle... on the contrary.
Goldie practices pole dancing too! Take
a hint from her and let your guard down!
October brings flames of love and passion, but may carry risky storms of overspontaneity.
Get Fit: Christie Brinkley uses a trick that
will definitely work for you: multitasking.
To stay fit, the admirable Aquarius rises
up on her toes to work her calves while
brushing her teeth, squats while blowdrying her hair, and does pushups while
doing other tasks.

October 2013 will have a special association regarding work, and it will jumble
professional activities with intellect,
communication, studies, and skills.
Get Fit: Mel B merges cardio with an intense routine. She keeps the cardio portion to a daily half hour, but ups the abs
to 200 sit-ups 3 times a day. You will soon
have a smooth, firm tummy... just like her!
The second half of October needs to
be looked at carefully. Communication
might be harder than ever and episodes
of cynicism might come into view.
Get Fit: LeAnn Rimes loves to mix it up.
You’ll feel revitalized by her approach as
she mixes strength toning with a spinning
class. Try to follow LeAnn's lead by trying
to work out first thing in the morning.
This month will totally bring forth good
luck and high energy to Sagittarius. Your
good attitude will take you places.
Get Fit: Britney Spears does “rev-up-yourmetabolism” exercises - on the treadmill.
She also does light weights and believes
in the delights of dance for keeping her
body in “superstar” form. Follow her
path and start grooving today!
The first part of the month will be stressful and busy, but it will also be profitable.
Get Fit: Drew Barrymore always keeps
it plain, aiming for a minimum of 2 to 3
hours of exercise each week. Take a 15
minute walk before work every day and a
15 minute walk after dinner, and you will
tone up almost naturally!

TheEtiquetteofBullying
ACCORDING TO MODERN STANDARDS
By | Sandy Janichian
“DON'T BE A BULLY, BE A STAR!” THE ANTIBULLYING CAMPAIGN STARTED BY VINCE
MCMAHON IS WHAT CELEBRITIES HAVE
BEEN PREACHING ABOUT LATELY. IF THIS IS
TRUE, THEN HOW CAN CATWALK DIVA NAOMI
CAMPBELL BE BOTH A BULLY AND A STAR
WHEN THE MUCH-COMMERCIALIZED MOTTO
CLEARLY STATES THAT THE TWO TERMS ARE
PARADOXICAL?
ullying is not about having a
stardom quality that makes
people forgive and forget,
nor about acting like an obnoxious schmuck. Bullying is
about having a bankable status and looking
fun to break and good to extort. An inglorious bully will not hesitate to play dead and
wear an insignificant guise. His pride shall
not suffer because this plot protects his
interests from the scheming humans filling
in for duty whenever the grim reaper is out
of the picture. A proficient bully is perfectly
aware that the key to success resides in
operating under the radar, withholding the
winning cards, and getting away with a misdeed unnoticed.
Whether it is political, corporate, or social, a bully’s masterpiece has to have this
combination, which has become a classic
amongst the experts: mind games, psychosomatic intimidation, and media coverage
– one that strikingly resembles more to
media misuse. As you have already noticed,
the modern world is evolving tremendously and spending energy on designing
a more complicated system… far from primal groaning, sword fighting, and Machiavellian chivalry. Until this instant, there is a
strict etiquette to such a sport and it takes
114 Fit'n Style Oct 2013
real wits to put the finger on the hottest and softest spots without
getting dirty hands.
Modern bullies do not find pleasure in fooling the victim alone; they
thrive on conning the entire world; countries bluntly used to invade
other countries with fire and steel. Nowadays, they prefer fabricating a complete movie about how a tyrant is ruling helpless populations. Then, they enter the premises like the knight in shining armor,
softly killing what is left of the population, and finishing them off
in the name of freedom… so you wonder why is it that there are
always fuel barrels and unexploited aquifers at the end of the road?!
Is it possible that the most wanted dictators only exist in the Lands
of Camels and Gold?
Moving on… how would you describe a society that collectively labels a number of its citizens/taxpayers depending on their private
lives, sexual preferences, or dress code, thus giving birth to a culture of discrimination, oppression, and fanaticism? This newborn
will be prone to operate against those who are different and to reinforce the inflexibility of the beloved conformists by charming their
compulsory and disciplinary tendency to think, speak, and judge in
pack. Bully is the word you are looking for. That is why manoeuvring
this culture will be a piece of cake to all the apple-polishers with an
agenda lurking nearby.
Now comes into play the word on the street and in the media. Their
job is to obscure more than reveal, to cover up the tracks by flooding markets with self-destructive entertainers, and desensitizing
images. The first shall distract the public opinion from what truly
matters; political scandals, sex tapes, corporate spies caught in the
act… everything is part of a bigger plan, everything is published for
a reason. When it comes to news making, the content shall look like
a video game. Populations keep dying, but their bodies do not smell
onscreen. The nations’ leaders keep on bargaining, but the resulting damages remain unfelt.
Self-aware bullying is deeply rooted in our innate and sadistic proclivity to trespass, cause loss, and reign supreme. Sadly, we did not
deal well with this ancient impulse and the civilizations that surrendered to its forceful grip suffered from the plague of war and
death, each time with an unforeseen intensity. The finest example
to this misfortune is the widely accepted regime of the survival of
the fittest. Igniting this farce has done nothing but make the attacker prosper and the law wane. Last time we checked, we lived in
a world of humans, not bloodthirsty beasts. God did not create this
world good or bad, we made it so.
