Logistics
Transportation to/from Honolulu International Airport: The Outrigger Reef Hotel is located
approximately nine miles from Honolulu International Airport. A variety of ground
transportation options are available.
Airport Waikiki Express provides transportation from the Honolulu International Airport to
any hotel in Waikiki, and operates 24 hours a day. Passenger fees are $9 one-way and $15
round trip. Two bags and one carry-on are included in the cost. For additional information on
the Airport Waikiki Express, go to: http://www.airportwaikikishuttle.com/. The trip will be
slower than a taxi, but the price is right.
Taxi Service is available on the center median fronting the terminal baggage claim areas. A
taxi from the airport to the hotel will cost between $35 and $40 during non-rush-hour periods.
The city bus also serves the Waikiki area, and the fee for riding The Bus is $2.50 each way.
Schedules are available at www.thebus.org. We do not recommend this option.
Rental Car: The estimated drive time from the airport to the Outrigger Reef Hotel is about 30
minutes, depending on traffic. If you arrive in mid-afternoon, you will experience severe rush
hour traffic and the travel time will likely be considerably longer. Two driving routes are
outlined below. We do not recommend driving to the hotel. You will not need a car during the
workshop; parking will cost $15/day for those staying overnight. You can rent a car in Waikiki
(Hertz has an office in the hotel) by the day for local excursions and sightseeing.
From Honolulu International Airport via H1 Freeway: From airport arrival terminal, exit
toward Waikiki / Honolulu. Go up the ramp and stay to the right, going east toward Waikiki /
Honolulu for one mile / 1.61 km to H1 Freeway. Merge onto H1 east. Get into the left lane, and
continue on H1 east for 0.8 miles / 1.29 km toward Honolulu. The freeway will turn to the left
and will merge with another freeway. Continue on for ~5 miles. Take Exit 23 to Punahou Street
and get into the right lane, turning right onto Punahou Street. (Kapiolani Women and Children's
Hospital will be straight ahead.) Go south on Punahou Street for one block. Turn right onto South
Beretania Street, and travel for one block. Get into the left lane, and turn left at the first traffic
signal onto Kalakaua Avenue. Continue on Kalakaua Avenue, and then turn right onto
Beachwalk. (Burberry store will be on the right.) Outrigger Reef on the Beach is straight ahead,
where Beachwalk ends at Kalia Road.
From Honolulu International Airport via Nimitz Highway: From airport arrival terminal, exit
toward Waikiki / Honolulu. Go up the ramp and stay to the right, going east toward Waikiki /
Honolulu for one mile / 1.61 km to H1 Freeway. Merge onto H1 east. Stay in the right lane and
follow the sign toward Waikiki / Nimitz Highway. Follow Nimitz Highway for 6.4 miles / 10.29
km and stay in the right lane as Nimitz Highway / Ala Moana Blvd. veers to the right and
becomes Kalakaua Ave. (Local Motion Surf Store will be to the left.) Continue on Kalakaua
Avenue, and then turn right onto Beachwalk. (Burberry store will be on the right.) Outrigger Reef
on the Beach is straight ahead, where Beachwalk ends at Kalia Road.
Event Parking for those not staying in the hotel will cost $5 per day with validation stamp.
Registration and Opening Reception: The opening reception will be held on the Voyager
Deck from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. A few minutes before the reception begins, the registration desk
where you can pick up your meeting badge to get you in to the reception will open. Spouses and
guests are welcome at the reception. There will also be a registration desk just outside the
meeting room for those who arrive too late to register on Wednesday.
Workshop Dinner: The workshop dinner will be held on Friday evening starting at 7:00 pm on
the Voyager Club Deck. Spouses and guests are welcome to attend, but we will have to ask each
person who is not a registered attendee to pay $75 to attend.
Special dietary requirements: We will have vegetarian dishes available at all of the catered
events (reception, poster session, dinner). However, if you have additional dietary restrictions,
please notify the conference organizers at [email protected].
Poster Session: The Poster Session will be held Thursday evening from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Due to the configuration of our meeting space, we will not be able to leave the posters up for the
entire meeting. At the end of the oral session on Thursday afternoon, we will deploy the poster
boards and the presenters can put up their posters. This set-up should only take a few minutes,
so there should be plenty of time before the Poster Session begins to put up your posters.
Tours of the W. M. Keck Cosmochemistry Laboratory and Cameca ims 1280: We will have
the laboratory open for tours on Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and on Saturday
from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. One can get to the University by taking the city bus (route 4), which
you can catch about three blocks from the hotel. See below for an annotated map of campus to
direct you to our building. We will provide transportation as well. To help with planning for the
laboratory tours, please send an e-mail to [email protected] indicating whether you would
like to see the lab on Wednesday or Saturday and approximately what time you would like to
visit. We will gather this information and prepare a schedule for getting you to and from the
laboratory that will be posted on the website and at the hotel.
