Montenegro
Montenegro is a fabulous treasure trove of delights
just waiting to be discovered. At the northern tip of the
coast, the Bay of Kotor unfolds as a magical world of its
own, where the towns and waterside villages retain the
architecture and spirit of the wealthy Venetian trading
empire centuries ago. If you’re looking to get away from it
all, the untamed Lustica Peninsula with its secluded coves
and iridescent blue seas is the least developed part of the
Montenegrin coast. The Budva Riviera boasts great beaches
– wide sandy bays, punctuated by rocky outcrops and
romantic hidden coves, and in the evening the lively nightlife
and club scene of Budva, is great for those looking for more
excitement. From the coast you can easily venture inland,
to explore the Tara Canyon, Europe’s deepest canyon, or
spend the day visiting the Mausoleum at Mount Lovcen, or
get back to nature with a peaceful walk around Lake Skadar.
Make Montenegro your holiday choice for 2015 and you will
see why this country is truly the jewel of the Adriatic.

Kotor Bay
Boka Kotorska, or Kotor Bay, is a place
of stunning natural beauty – a vast
butterfly shaped expanse of water
surrounded by breathtaking mountain
scenery. Boka Kotorska is remarkable
for its wonderful coastal scenery and
the many pretty villages and towns
that dot the shoreline. Long before
it was designated a UNESCO World
Heritage Site in 1979, the bay has
been a magnet for sailors, traders
and sightseers alike.
At the head of the bay lies the
old city of Kotor, one of the most
exquisitely preserved medieval
centres in the Mediterranean.
Narrow alleyways open out onto
piazzas, churches and palaces.
The awe-inspiring twelfth-century
city walls climb 200 metres up the
sheer mountain face and form an
impressive backdrop to Kotor’s annual
Venetian carnival.
Meanwhile the beautiful heritagelisted village of Perast is littered with
the palaces of seventeenth-century
Venetian merchants, each vying for
the best view over the bay to the
beautiful island monastery of St.
George and the floating church of Our
Lady of the Rocks.
At the entrance to the Bay of Kotor
is Herceg Novi, surrounded by ancient
walls and with two 600-year-old
fortresses. Moving away from Herceg
Novi towards Kotor you pass a string
of traditional waterside fishing villages
as the bay unfolds.

kilometres from the sea, but already in the gently
sloping foothills of Mount Orien. The village offers
a view like no other, where the verdant hills tumble

Villa Victoria is a grand 100-year-old family house in the

Perasto Perast, Kotor Bay
Holiday Apartment • Sleeps 2-4 • 1 Bedroom • Close to
Waterfront
Perast, Kotor Bay
Situated a few kilometres northwest of Kotor, Perast
is one of Montenegro’s most picturesque settlements,
with pretty winding lanes and countless churches set
against a backdrop of rugged cliffs and the forests
of Mount Orjen. Grand merchant houses lie along
its seafront, an echo of the time when Perast was a
prosperous Venetian-era trading town on the western
edge of the Ottoman Empire.
An ideal base for exploring the Bay of Kotor and
beyond, Perast has been perfectly preserved and
boasts some of the finest examples of baroque
architecture on the Adriatic Coast. Palaces, churches
and old stone mansions line the water’s edge, and
the stone promenade is a charming place to while
away a few hours in the sunshine, with the enticing
aromas of almond cake – a traditional Perast sweetscenting the air. The town looks out onto the Verige
strait – the narrowest part of the Bay of Kotor – and
distinctive twin islands, each with a picturesque
chapel. The Abbey of St George was first established
by the Benedictines as early as the 9th century on a
natural island, while the neighbouring Our Lady of the
Rock adorns a manmade islet built and enlarged over
centuries by depositing stones and scuttled sailing
ships around a small crag.
The first known church was built there in 1452, and
the present Byzantine chapel went up in 1632, with
the domed sanctuary added ninety years later. Quiet
and beautiful, Perast is one of the highlights of this
stunning region, and a delightful base from which to
visit quaint fishing villages alongside the deep blue
waters of Kotor Bay and other historic towns nestling
among the trees of the surrounding hills.

These quaint and cosy traditional one-bedroom
apartments retain many of their historical features, such
as the exposed interior stone walls and old wooden beam
ceilings. The thick stone walls and tiled floors throughout
create a naturally cool ambience that is ideal to relax in
after a day in the sun. The compact open-plan lounge/
diner is comfortably furnished; the simple yet functional
kitchenette is perfect for serving up light meals and snacks
that can be enjoyed on those warm days and nights. The
double bedrooms, lead off from the lounge area and offer
views across the bay from the traditional shuttered window.
Outside the apartments offer either a vine covered sun
terrace or outside seating area which are ideal places to
relax while looking out across the Bay of Kotor. Sunny days
can be spent on one of the many bathing pontoons or
perhaps exploring the highlights of this stunning region of
Montenegro.

Tivat & Lustica
This region presents both the most
modern and most traditional faces
of Montenegro.
On one hand, the untamed
Lustica Peninsula with its secluded
coves and iridescent blue seas is
the least developed part of the
Montenegrin coast. Once home
to pirates and smugglers, today
Lustica is a large swath of pristine
Mediterranean countryside, the
shore line dotted with undeveloped
bays and coves.
On the other hand Tivat
is fast becoming one of the
Mediterranean’s most talked about
tourism destinations thanks to Porto
Montenegro – a luxury marina with
berths big enough to accommodate
the world’s largest private yachts.
For those looking to get off
the beaten track, head to Lustica
and you’ll discover a charming
world of rolling green hills covered
with pine trees, olive groves and
a natural habitat for wild fauna.
Fine homemade prsut (cured and
smoked ham), rakija (a stiff Balkan
brandy made from plums and other
locally grown fruits), tasty traditional
local cheese and other delicious
domace (homemade) produce can
be purchased from any number of
small-holdings that dot the hillsides.
Lustica is also home to some
of Montenegro’s finest beaches,
including the phenomenal white
pebble Zanjice. Porto Montenegro
caters to the international jetset, with fashionable bars and
restaurants, including the ultrachic Puro beach resort.

Retreat is a collection of painstakingly restored stone
houses with a private pool, set amongst pomegranate

in the Tower House annex. Renovated and still owned by
a renowned Swedish artist who uses the property out of

living space that fits into the outstanding surroundings.
These buildings are Montenegrin traditional architecture
at its best with thick stone walls and shuttered windows
helping to keep the inside cool in the day time. Solar

calculated from the date we receive your request or notification
in writing. We will try to assist wherever possible but cannot
guarantee that any such changes can be made. If we are able
to comply with your requested change an administration fee
of £40 per person named on the booking form will be charged
together with any increased costs from our suppliers. Where
changes to accommodation or car hire are requested within 84
days of departure then cancellation charges as set out in section
6 may apply and the amended arrangements will be treated as
a new booking. Any request for changes to flight details will be
subject to the cancellation and amendment terms as imposed
on us by our flight suppliers, this can often be as much as 100%.
Cancellation charges for accommodation will not apply for name
changes where a new party member is substituted for one who
is prevented from travelling. In this case documentary proof of
a serious reason (e.g. your own personal illness or injury, the
personal illness, injury or death of a close relative, jury service or
redundancy) must be provided. You must give us at least 28 days
notice in writing and enclose the administration fee of £40 per
person in addition to any charges or costs levied by our suppliers
(this can be as much as 100% for flight suppliers).
5. ALTERATION BY US
We reserve the right to change any holiday details, including
the price, before you book in which case we will tell you before
the holiday contract takes effect. Occasionally a change or
cancellation may occur after you have booked, but before you
depart. A change may be “major” or “minor”. A “major” change
is one which materially affects your confirmed holiday, such as
a change of accommodation to a lower standard than you have
booked, a change of UK airport (excluding between London
airports) or a change of time of departure by more than 12 hours.
Any other change is “minor”. If there is a minor change before
you depart we will try to let you know (although we are not
obliged to do so) but you will not be entitled to cancel or receive
compensation. We reserve the right to correct minor or obvious
errors in your booking details at any time. If there is a major
change before departure we will tell you as soon as practicable.
We will then offer you the choice of accepting the change, taking
the alternative accommodation (if it is more expensive you will
have to pay the difference, but if it is cheaper you will receive
the appropriate refund) or cancelling and receiving a full refund.
In addition, unless the major change or cancellation is caused
by force majeure (see below) or occurs before the date the final
balance falls due for your holiday, we will pay compensation as
detailed below:
More than 60 days nil
30 – 59 days £20 per adult
15 – 29 days £30 per adult
14 days or less - £40 per adult
The meaning of ‘force majeure’ includes, but is not limited to,
war, threat of war, riot or civil disturbance, industrial dispute or
threatened industrial dispute, natural or nuclear disaster, adverse
weather conditions, fire or flood, terrorist activity or threatened
terrorist activity, closure of ports and airports and car hire
depots, unforeseen local building works or road works, actions
of national or local governments or any similar circumstances
beyond our control.
6. CANCELLATION BY YOU
You, or any member of your party, may cancel your holiday at any
time providing that the cancellation is made by the same person
who made the booking and is communicated to us in writing. As
this incurs administrative costs, we will retain your deposit and in
addition will apply cancellation charges as shown below:
84 days or more loss of deposit
Between 83 –60 days 60%
Between 59 – 31 days 80%
30 days or less - 100%
Please note the above cancellation charges do not apply where
you have booked a holiday through either Secret Escapes or
Voyage Prive where cancellation costs are 100% of any monies
paid.
7. CANCELLATION BY US
We reserve the right in any circumstances to cancel your holiday.
However, in no case will we cancel your holiday less than 60 days
before the departure date except for reasons of force majeure
or failure on your part to pay the final balance. In circumstances
where we are unable to provide the holiday booked, we will
return to you all monies paid, or offer you an alternative holiday
of comparable standard and if a cancellation occurs within 60
days of departure, compensation will be paid on a similar scale to
that shown in Clause 5 above.
8. INSURANCE
You must have adequate insurance cover before you travel and
you should provide us with the details of your policy before
travelling. It is your responsibility to ensure any policy meets your
needs, including the cost of cancellation by you and assistance
overseas if you suffer accident or illness.
9. FLIGHTS AND TIMES
Any flight bookings that we make for you are with reputable
suppliers, whose booking conditions we accept on your behalf.
These terms and conditions may be different from ours. Flight
times on your confirmation invoice cannot be guaranteed
and where changes are made these will be notified to you in
writing wherever possible. Actual times will be shown on your
flight tickets and must be adhered to as failure to do so may
result in missed flights, in which case we are not responsible for
any additional costs that you may incur in making alternative
arrangements. By booking flights with us you accept the flight
operator conditions of carriage, many of whom limit their liability
under international agreements.

local Montenegrin embassy to determine the minimum validity on
passports required. The carrier may be subject to a fine if you try
to travel without the correct documentation and we reserve the
right to recover any such charge from the passenger. For citizens
of other countries, up to date information on passport, visa and
health requirements should be obtained from the Montenegro
