Golf Board Member Profile
Mike Krone
“A Chip Off The Ole Block”
By Don Droke
He has been an associate member
of the Pointe Royale Golf Course
longer than anyone else and was the
first person to become a member
when the course was being built back
in 1985.
Everyone has seen him. He is everywhere, always on the go and never
slowing down. He is a perpetual visitor and stops by more homes in
Pointe Royale during a week than a
traveling parson. He never says much
but just keeps on moving. In fact, he
usually drops by more than 70 homes
a week. Sometimes more than once
a week.
Folks look forward to seeing the
smiling face who has become a fixture around the Pointe over the years.
Many invite him in for a drink of lemonade or a bite to eat on a hot day.
Some even remember his birthday or
anniversary with gifts but no one ever
forgets this hard working man.
What most people don’t know, is
that this man in motion is Mike
Krone and he isn’t just mowing your
yard, he is “sculpting” it.
We better go back a few years to
tell this story. It was in Lawrence,
Kansas that Mike grew up and fell
in love with the game of golf. He
loved going to school and was popular among the kids going to elemen-
tary school, but instead of studying all
the time, he was dreaming of being a
professional golfer. He played every
day and never lost sight of his lofty goal.
After all, if Wilt Chamberlain could
become famous playing basketball in
his hometown, why couldn’t he become
famous playing golf.
This dreamer loved to watch Wilt as
he led the University of Kansas to National Championships and dreamed of
leaving home some day to tour on the
Professional Golf Circuit just as successfully as Wilt had played for KU.
During this same time, the Viet Nam
war was raging and Mike was declared
ineligible for combat because of shoulder and back problems created by carrying the heavy golf bag on his shoulder for hours every day. By the age of
eighteen, he had carried the bag slung
over his right shoulder for thousands of
hours causing the shoulder to be compressed leading to problems with his
back.
Being unable to serve his country, he
went to Florida to play golf on the Satellite Tour. After having some success
on the tour, he grew bored and decided
to see the country, hitchhiking over
most of the United States, even going
to Alaska and then Canada and Mexico.
After facing bears while sleeping outdoors in Alaska and being threatened

to plant bedding
plants and any trees
and shrubs you wish to add to your
landscape.
The hard freeze damaged trees and
shrubs but they should come out
again with time. I do not recommend
pruning them until you can see what
is not going to bud out. Crepe myrtles
were hit especially hard by the freeze
but they are starting to send out new
growth.
I am in the process of planting the
flower beds around the course, working on the bedding plants first, including begonias, impatiens, dianthus, wave petunias, and snapdragons. I have also been setting out cannas from the greenhouse in several
beds. It is still a little cold for the
banana trees and tropical hibiscus.
I realize many of you have missed
the tulips this year. I started a little
late in the year to order and plant the
quantities needed so next year you
can look for many more of the beautiful spring plants.
Thank you for all the kind comments and wonderful support.
Should you have any questions or
concerns about your plants, feel free
to give me a call or ask when you
see me out on the course.

On Monday, April 16, the Corps started

I look for this to continue until the end of
the week. By the end of the week Table
Rock should be at or below normal pool.
There is one item I would like some help
with. We have a number of people who
visit us and have never fished the trophy
area. Most of the people do not understand
the regulations in the trophy area. It is up
to each and every one of us to make sure
that people follow the regulations in the
trophy area. If I think someone is not following the regulations, I will stop and
strike up a conversation to make sure they
understand the regulations in the area.
Most people are very appreciative. You
will run into people who could care less
about the regulations. When this occurs,
I will call to see if a Missouri Conservation Officer is in our area. Officer Quenten
Fronterhouse serves the Branson area 417336-0957 and Buck Nofsinger serves the
Forsythe area 417-546-2990. If there is
not an officer in the area, there is not much
you can do. If you see someone you think
is not following the regulations, just stop
and strike up a conversation and it might
do the trick. Also, please help keep Taneycomo clean of litter.
Until next month, hope to see you at the
fishing hole!

Flexibility, the key to safe exercise
By Dennis Kolb,
Certified Nutrition &
Wellness Consultant
It’s spring and everyone is getting into
their outdoor exercise programs. Preparing
the body for exercise is important for persons at any age and fitness level. The key
to preventing injuries before exercising is
to warm up. One of the best ways to warm
up is to do flexibility or stretching exercises.
Dennis Kolb, CNWC
The key to proper stretching lies in the
way you perform the exercise. When
stretching certain parts of your body, you should not feel pain.
Staying relaxed is very important to stretching properly. Make
sure your body is not tight. Your shoulders, hands and feet should
be kept relaxed as you stretch. Breathe slowly.
Here are a few exercises developed by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. The exercises will help warm up
various parts of your body and prepare it for exercise.
Knee and calf:
Hold the top of your left foot with right hand and gently pull heel toward buttocks. Hold for 30 seconds. Repeat with other leg.
Stand close to a solid support, and lean on it
with your forearms, head resting on hands. Bend one
leg and place your foot on the ground in front of you,
with the other leg straight behind. Slowly move your
hips forward, keeping your lower back flat. Hold for
15 to 30 seconds. Do not bounce.
Shoulder:
In a standing or sitting position, interlace your fingers. With your palms facing upward, push your arms
slightly back and up. Hold for 15 seconds.
With your arms overhead, hold the elbow of one arm
with the hand of your other arm. Gently pull the elbow
behind your arm. Do slowly. Hold for 15 seconds. Stretch
both arms.
Lower back:
Gently pull your elbow across your chest toward your

Annual Garage Sale
It’s been said that a little “junk” adds up to be a lot of “junk”
and before long you have lots of junk.
It’s time for the annual Pointe Royale Garage Sale and many,
both inside and outside the Pointe, can’t wait. It’s going to be
bigger and
Now’s the time to get rid of all
better than
ever.
This big event is huge and it’s only one day, Saturday, May
19th. The sale has grown over the years with the whole town
talking about the biggest sale around and the best bargains
anywhere.
Hundreds of eager shoppers gather at the front gate waiting
for the chance to scoop up the bargains.
Don’t forget, sellers must have a $1.00 Branson Permit in
order to sell their “stuff.” Applications are available at the
Guard Shack. Fill it out and take it to the City Hall to get
your permit.
This is the only time when your “valuables” may be displayed and sold out of your garage or on the yard and driveway. Condo owners may set up on the grassy areas between
Mulligan, Devonshire and Overlook streets.
your “stuff”
Be ready. Start getting ready
right now. Get your “stuff” together. This is going to be big.
Plan for a great day filled with fun and lots of community
spirit. It all starts at 8:00 am.
Don’t forget. “What is one man’s junk is another man’s
treasure. There will be lots of treasures.
