FOR JOY: The Class of 2015 show off the spring in their step during the College Interhouse Gala on Friday.
From the Executive Head, Dr Guy Hartley
Welcome back, everyone, to a new year with the first term very much underway already! A special
welcome to a good number of new families who have joined the Merrifield community at the outset
of 2015. We trust that you will quickly settle in to the Merrifield environment and be made to feel
especially welcome at the school.
Merrifield continues to expand and develop in a variety of ways as the school seeks to deliver on its
promise of a quality and holistic education in a nurturing and caring academic milieu. It is a great
privilege for me to assert confidently that we have a wonderful store of really excellent and
committed educators at Merrifield. I can vouch for the fact that we have teachers with a deep,
unselfish commitment to the learning needs of students, who go beyond the call of duty in devoting
their time to preparing their charges for life. They have a real passion for education and emotionally
rich classrooms.
It is our primary goal to go way beyond a simple focus on marks, exams, assessments and the
curriculum to provide teaching that creates a seamless bond of love and care between home and
school; teaching that inspires students, leaving them with life-lasting impressions; teaching that
expands the mindset and vision of students and broadens their social outlook. These are lofty
objectives, but certainly they are ideals to which we as educators aspire at Merrifield.
We look forward to a year of real maturing and personal growth as we go about developing the
intellectual, emotional and social foundations of our students in a wider preparation for life. In the
words of IEB Chairman, Professor Crain Soudien – “[We] must help young people find, in the
opportunity to think, the fullness of their potential as human beings.”

We’ve joined together
as classmates as the
new year begins…
A year full of learning
while we become
friends.
We’ll share and be
kind as we work and
play.
And our friendship will
grow with each passing

THANK YOU!
Dear Merrifield students,
What excitement when our Angels
received and opened their gifts!! What a happy time!
For some that will be it for Christmas, so on behalf of
all of us at African Angels thank you so very much for
giving them such lovely gifts. As an organisation we’re
grateful and the moms will be just as delighted as the
children!
Thank you for taking the time at such a busy period of
the year to think of us and organise our 63 boxes, in
addition to all the others you did!
Love
Sharon
