Foundation
Dear NCCC Alumni and Friends,
The Neosho County Community College Endowment
Foundation is proud to bring you our Annual Report. Many
new and exciting changes are taking place at NCCC and we
encourage you to be part of this excitement.
Our Foundation is proud to take the lead on the new NCCC
Ottawa campus. The approximately 52,000 square foot facility
will reinforce our presence in Franklin County and provide an
incredible new space for students. Groundbreaking took place
on June 2, 2010, and we are planning for a move in date of
March 2011.

The Center for Sustainable Energy is another project that our
Foundation is working on in conjunction with the College. This
$4 million dollar project will be the first step in implementing
the Neosho County Community College Master Facilities Plan.
A small investment as America moves to become more energy
independent, the Center gives students attending NCCC insight
into the “green” energy field. Please consider asking for more
information about this project.
We are very proud of the fact that the NCCC baseball field now
has a turf infield, allowing games to be played in spite of the
unpredictable Kansas weather. The Foundation was instrumental
in acquiring the funds for the turf installation on the baseball
field.
Our new Alumni and Friends Association will kick-off their first
event this Fall. The Foundation hopes these events will provide
insights and opportunities to bring alumni back to NCCC and
the memories they made during their days at NCCC.
As the NCCC Foundation, we continue to fulfill our mission
of supporting and advancing the College’s mission of providing
quality educational programs, services, and activities for its
students and the community by managing, soliciting and
administering gifts of money and/or/property for scholarships,
programs, facilities capital improvements and endowment.

Programs, Progress and Plans for the Future
Our nation is facing one of its greatest economic challenge in
recent history. Most of our counties are facing double-digit
unemployment and more than ever individuals are focused
on gaining relevant job skills and continuing education. The
faculty and staff of NCCC are fully committed to serving
our communities in these challenging times, whether they are
unemployed adults looking for new skills or traditional-aged
students wanting to start their journey toward a degree.

Since 1936, NCCC has been offering programs, certificates,
and degrees to meet the demands of the workforce and an
individual’s educational growth. Today, I am proud to say
that NCCC offers 18 associate degree programs and 32
certificate programs. We serve more than 3,500 individuals
on our campuses, and enrollment continues to grow at a
steady pace exceeding 12% as compared to the previous
year. But student enrollment isn’t the only area where we
are experiencing growth; our new Ottawa Campus will
become a reality in 2011. This exciting new facility will
provide an educational building with three separate core
areas. A professional wing will house the simulated nursing
and skills lab and the health and science laboratories; the
interactive wing, located in the center of the new facility,
includes the student lounge, learning center, administrative
and instructors’ offices and auditorium, allowing for public
use; the teaching wing includes the general classrooms. This
unique design also includes two outdoor learning areas.
This report is just a “snap shot” of the many activities at
NCCC and how we enrich our communities’ and students’
lives. Thank you for your continued support. Please take time
to read this report and gain some insight on why NCCC is a
premier community college.
Action is the foundational
key to all success.

NCCC GIVING
The Kansas Board of Regents recently provided enrollment numbers for all the community
colleges in Kansas for the academic year that just ended. Once again, NCCC has grown
faster than the average growth at the other 18 community colleges in Kansas. Our numbers
indicated a 13.51% increase. The average for the other community colleges was 12.58%.
NCCC's Giving figures remain strong in spite of recent economic conditions. Giving offers
you the opportunity to strengthen a vital community resource while offering a tax deduction.
A well-planned gift can help achieve financial and charitable objectives as well as personal
goals. Your gift shapes the future of the college by supporting students, programs, and services.

ENDOWMENT
The Neosho County Community College Foundation
Endowment Fund is a growing investment. The funds are
divided into various investment assets. With 1% in cash
and money market, 34% income, 52% growth and income,
and 13% Growth. The Foundation investments, like all
other investment income, took a significant decline in
2008-2009. The investments took less of a loss then some
other institutions because of the foresight of the investment
committee to invest in more conservative opportunities.
We continue to recover from that loss and add to our
investments. The interest from the endowment is used for
scholarships and to support the mission of NCCC.

The NCCC History Club provides all students with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of different aspects
of History. The club travels every spring to get an indepth knowledge of American History. This year we traveled to
Boston, Lexington, Concord, and Salem, MA studying Colonial and Revolutionary Historical sites.
The Art Club's activites promote the parctical and cultural value of art, the development of personal creativity and
art career awareness; and to provide educational opportunities in the visual arts for club members and the college
community. This year in an effort to gain support to be chosen as one of Google's partners in its ultra high speed
Internet fiber program, the art club helped to create an image of Google Earth at the intersection of Main and
Lincoln in Chanute, Kansas.
The new campus will be almost three times as large as the current campus at approximately 52,000
square feet. The current campus is 18,000 square feet, which includes general classrooms, nursing
laboratories, and computer laboratories.

Foundation’s 2010 golf tournament. Bill Winder and Brad Winder took 3rd place just edging out the
team of Clint Isaac and Bill Hensley.
Where are they now?
Julie (Robinson) Berg
After NCCC Julie went on to play volleyball at Baker University in Baldwin City, and then
decided to walk on and play basketball. In 1996, Julie graduated with a Bachelor of Science
degree. Julie then moved to Topeka where she took a job at Dillards Department Store,
where she worked for six years. Since 2003, Julie has been working for Payless ShoeSource
World headquartes, in the Marketing Department.
Barkley is Julies first "kid," a yellow lab she has had for nine years. She has two real children,
Reagan her six year old daughter (who shares the same birthday with her mom, July 4th) and
a two year old son, Carson. Julie has been married since October 2002 to Jeremy Robinson,
who is a detective for the Topeka Police Department.
Julie returns to Chanute at least once every two or three months. Her parents and family still
live in Chanute.
Jannero Pargo
After NCCC Jannero moved on to the University of
Arkansas. Pargo has played in the NBA for the Los Angeles
Lakers, Totonto Raptors, New Orleans Hornets, and
currently for the Chicago Bulls. Through his Jannero Pargo
Foundation he has conducted basketball clinics since 2006.
He is currently living in Chicago with his wife Malaysia and
son Jannero Jr.

The Dean Honas Endowed Scholarship
Pictured above are parents Herman and Flo Honas, Darryl
Honas, brother and members of the 1980 baseball team, and
the recipients of this year’s scholarship, Chris Hinkley and
Chris Jones.
The Dean Honas Endowed Scholarship for NCCC Baseball
was funded by the Honas family, members of the 1980
NCCC Baseball team, and through fundraising efforts of the
NCCC Foundation in honor of Mr. Honas.
Dean was a local boy, who stayed at home to play a game
he loved: baseball for Neosho County Community College
from 1979 to 1980 as the catcher. The Honas Endowed
Scholarship benefits members of the NCCC Panther baseball
team. To be eligible for the scholarship a student must be fulltime, in good academic standing at NCCC, have a minimum
grade point average of 3.2, and be a participating student
athlete from the Panther baseball team.
The future belongs to those who
believe in their dreams.
~ Eleanor Roosevelt
The Uthmann Scholarship
Elva Uthmann worked for years in the oil fields of Oklahoma
and Kansas, after serving his country in the Korean conflict.
He and his wife, Evelyn, farmed outside of Chanute for
many years. During part of the time that they farmed, they
raised watermelons, which they usually gave away. He still
comes to the college in the Fall and gives away the produce
he grows in his garden.
In 2009 Mr. Uthmann established the “Evelyn and Elva
Uthmann Endowed Scholarship” at Neosho County
Community College to benefit a deserving student who
wants an education. When asked why he started a scholarship
at NCCC, he said, “They were always good to me here at
Neosho County Community College.” A man of few words,
Mr. Uthmann makes up for it with a large and giving heart!
Life-long Chanute resident and NCCC basketball standout Harold Turner is surrounded by
his family. The NCCC Foundation announced that they would be raising funds to endow
the Harold Turner Endowed Scholarship for Panther Basketball.
Thank you to all of our donors for their support
of Neosho County Community College and
the Foundation!
