ALTUS DE WET – HUSQVARNA RACING
KEI NATIONAL ENDURO (11 May)
3rd Round of the Liquorland SA National Enduro Motorcycle Championship
ALTUS DE WET WINS KEI NATIONAL ENDURO
ALTUS DE WET, racing for Husqvarna Racing, has won the KEI National Enduro, the third
round of the Liquorland National Enduro Championship!
It was a tough race where wet and slippery conditions turned the challenging route outside
East London in the Eastern Cape into an even bigger challenge, but ALTUS brought his
Husqvarna TX310 home to claim the team’s maiden overall victory and second consecutive
E1 (Open Class) win.
ALTUS DE WET : “It is always great to race at KEI – no matter the result. The organizers
always put so much hard work into the race and I really hope the riders appreciate it.
The whole Husqvarna team has been working hard on continuous development and we are
all still learning about the new brand, the products and the team! I worked hard at to
maintain my fitness and improved my riding and we have proved that we have put a winning
package together – in less than 6 months.
Back to the enduro – on Friday (before the race) I walked the racing stages – a 13km
Enduro special and a 1.2km MX special and thought the longer stage would be quite fast. It
then drizzled through the night and the rain made the course very slippery and even more
technical. The Enduro special had a bit of everything in and I realised that one had to be
smooth and fast to post good times.
I think my smooth riding style suited the Enduro special perfectly and I posted the fastest
times after this stage on each of the three occasions.
I enjoyed the MX special as well, but I was 3 or 4 seconds off the pace and will definitely
work on my motocross racing abilities! On the third MX special I crashed through the finish
line – it was really not planned at all. At these sections we were in fourth gear and racing
flat-out through the timing area and have about 20 metres to stop. I was way too hard on
the brakes and a braking bump shot me straight over the bars. The bars were bent, but the
team fixed it in no time and got me on the last lap.
My Husqvarna TXC 310 worked perfect all day and I felt strong! Thank you to Tom
Borgershausen who did a great job on the suspension.
We had to complete the regularity stage (not a racing stage) three times, but it was fun and
challenging!
It was a great race for me, Husqvarna and all the sponsors. I really enjoy being in the
Husqvarna team and believes that it improves my riding! Husqvarna has a bright future
ahead of them and I'm really proud to be part of it. Congratulations also to my team-mates,
Michael Creevy and Robin Hudson who both posted great results!
I would like to thank my friend Shaun Duckham for always being a great help at the races.
Husqvarna SA’s Fred Fensham has so much passion for the sport and it is great to race for
Husqvarna Racing – what an unbelievable brand!
Thank you to all my sponsors – without your support, be it great quality products, logistics or
financial support, this result would not have been possible.
My next stop is Erzberg Rodeo (Austria) where I will race for the Husqvarna factory team and
I will need all the SA support I can get!”
