Jenny Litz.
On Wednesday, January 20, we met with Robin Van Auken - Lycoming College instructor and Gale Largey - retired professor, Mansfield University to brainstorm ideas for a cultural tour
of the Lumber Region for an application for a Pennsylvania Humanities Grant. Robin and Gale
are both incredibly knowledgeable about the area and were willing to share their expertise.
After introductions, Steven gave the background of the PA Center for the Book and what kinds
of information we were seeking. Marcy explained her job in the Maps Library and her part in
our project. Alan gave an orientation to the Literary and Cultural Heriage Map of Pennsylvania
and then we brainstormed about people, places, events, and things in the Lumber Heritage
Region. After much discussion, we mapped out a tour starting and ending in Williamsport with
as many interesting stops and side trips as we could include. Below is the map and an outline of
our tour.
