STEEPED IN HISTORY
The Royal Exchange was founded as a ‘comely bourse for merchants to
assemble upon,’ by wealthy land mercer, Sir Thomas Gresham, whose family
crest was the grasshopper. It was opened by Queen Elizabeth I in 1571,
but the original building was destroyed by the Fire of London in 1666.
A second building, opened in 1669, was again destroyed by fire,
this time in 1838. The Royal Exchange building you see today was
designed by William Tite and opened by Queen Victoria in 1844.
In 2001, this Grade I listed building was extensively remodelled to accommodate
a collection of the world’s finest luxury brands, shops and restaurants.
The iconic Royal Exchange has a real wow factor when it comes to weddings
and civil ceremonies, the REX Events team come with years of experience in
event planning, offering a bespoke service and impeccable attention to detail.

A marriage is a special occasion for the happy couple and all that are
involved. This unique & versatile space is the perfect dramatic backdrop for
your special day; with a central location sandwiched between Threadneedle
Street and Cornhill in the heart of the City of London. We have expert
staff devoted to making your wedding celebration a day to remember.

BECOME REALITY
We are licensed for civil wedding ceremonies and civil partnerships; this
unique venue steeped in history provides the ideal space for both your
ceremony and reception. An exclusive hire encompasses a ceremony for
up to 240 guests, a dining space for up to 300 guests with a dance floor,
a separate canapé reception area, a lounge space and the wedding suite.
This space is available for exclusive hire at the weekends as the entire
building closes to the public. The white stone and marble in the Grand
Café create the perfect backdrop for any colour scheme or décor. Natural
sunlight bathes the room from an intricate skylight above the courtyard.
SAVING
THE DATE
In order to begin planning your big day in plenty of time, we offer a provisional
booking system which allows you to book your event up to a year in advance.
A provisional booking may be made directly with us at The Royal Exchange.
However, you will then need to contact the City of London register office
to ensure they have the availability of a registrar on that date. Full details
will be provided when you make the booking with the registry office.

Our chefs are always coming up with new fabulous recipes to suit all palettes.
We do our absolute best to cater for all dietary requirements, but if there
is something you particularly want that we cannot accommodate we
have a list of recommended suppliers we can put you in touch with.
