Welcome to the 2nd annual addition of the Gore
Mountain Region Directory. As you take a look through
the publication I’m sure you will be surprised at the
large number of businesses in the region as well as
the wide array of things to do throughout the area.
We appreciate the support for the directory given
by both our advertisers and the Town of Johnsburg
Occupancy Tax funds in preparation of our directory.
You will note the members of the Gore Mountain
Region Chamber are listed by category in the first
section of the directory. In the back of the directory
is a listing of all businesses and service groups in the
Town of Johnsburg. Chamber members are listed
in bold type in this section. We plan to update this
directory annually. Any suggestions you may have for
ways to improve future issues are welcome.

A Note from the Town Supervisor
Over the last several years the Greater Gore Mountain
region has experienced significant economic growth even
as the nation has struggled amid the greatest financial crisis
since the Great Depression. Our main streets are dotted
with more than a dozen new businesses. Our market is
transitioning from seasonal to year round, from commuter to
destination.
Our community is a diverse and growing one. While the
world is fast learning about our marquis mountain and heart
thumping white water, a glance around town shows a community that is vibrant and self-motivated. A highly successful
riverfront concert series, a new farmer’s market, art walks
and cultural experiences associated with our tourist railroad
await families taking a few days off in the mountains or
maybe considering relocation.
Government too has been proactive here, adopting zoning
ordinances that protect our small town identity while permitting needed growth. Infrastructure associated with resources
such as water, recreation and emergency services has been
enhanced for the future while taxes have been reduced.
The upcoming year will likely be the most exciting one
in our community’s history. In a few months the full interconnection between Gore Mountain and the historic North
Creek Ski Bowl will be completed. In addition to rendering
our ski area one of the largest east of the Mississippi, the
long dreamed of connection will bring the mountain to Main
Street. Our economy will grow by drawing from our heritage
and our environment.
The stage is set for our region to move from its often
described status as best kept secret to premiere destination.

The Town of Johnsburg and the Hamlets of Bakers Mills,
Johnsburg, North Creek, North River, Riparius, and Wevertown welcome you to enjoy the four season beauty of the
dynamic Hudson River and the Adirondack Mountains. Other
towns in the area include Minerva, Chester and Indian Lake.
The Gore Mountain Region offers a wide variety of winter,
spring, summer & fall sports as well as historic points of
interest. Whitewater rafting, hiking, canoeing, fishing,
mountain biking; spectacular fall foliage; great skiing, both
alpine and cross country, and snowboarding in winter. The
Upper Hudson River Railroad provides scenic rides along the
Hudson River between North Creek and Thurman.

Chamber History
The North Creek Chamber of Commerce was established
in 1938 and over time, evolved into the Gore Mountain
Region Chamber of Commerce, a non-profit corporation that
has been in operation for 70 years.
We have over 120 businesses and local citizens within our
membership. Though the office is located in the village of
North Creek, Town of Johnsburg, our membership comes
from the entire Gore Mountain Region, including the Towns of
Minerva, Chester, Indian Lake and Warrensburg.
The Chamber of Commerce works with civic, social,
cultural and educational organizations as well as local government to enhance living and working conditions for both
residents and visitors coming to the region. We invite all
businesses, professionals and individuals to join our organization and focus on meeting our area’s needs.

The Town of Johnsburg is located in the Lower Central
Adirondacks of New York, 2 hours from Albany, Utica and
Plattsburg. It may be reached from Interstate 87 (Adirondack
Northway) by using Exits 23, 24, 25, or 26. The population of
the Town of Johnsburg is 2,352.

Upper Hudson River Railroad
The Upper Hudson River Railroad runs seasonal round trip
excursions along a section of the former Adirondack Branch
of the D & H Railroad. Board from the restored platforms
of the historic North Creek Depot and enjoy breathtaking
scenery as the train travels beside the Hudson River to the
picturesque train station at Riverside and beyond. At Riverside you’ll enjoy a layover at the refurbished station and its
museum room, gift shop and vintage caboose refreshment
stand. Then you’ll return to North Creek, an Adirondack village with lots of small-town charm, wonderful restaurants
and engaging shops.
