elcome to Truck Power. This edition comes to you hot on the heels of the Brisbane
Truck Show which was held in mid-May at the Convention Centre. Truck and transport
exhibitors were out in full force over the four day event and public attendance numbers
were some of the highest on record according to organisers.
On the surface, the strong turnout can be attributed to this being a large, well-promoted and managed
event, but dig a little deeper and I believe the success of the show can also be put down to a broader
economy that is rebounding and slowly gaining in confidence. We’ll provide you with a full Show
pictorial in the next edition.
In this edition we bring you details of the 2013 model year N and F Series upgrades. Isuzu engineers
have introduced a number of worthwhile enhancements to these ranges particularly in the areas of
safety and driver convenience. Along the way three new model variants have been added which now
sees Isuzu’s total model offering top out at an amazing 154 models!
Turning to our customer stories, we take a look at every bloke’s fantasy… I’m of course talking about
having a shed-full of great tools, but in this case the ‘shed’ is mobile in the form of an Isuzu Snap-on
Tools truck, wait until you see inside.
In South Australia we meet Benleigh Vending Systems, a company that restocks hundreds of food and
beverage machines each day for the greater convenience of the good people of Adelaide. This company
is also the subject of this edition’s instalment of ‘Stories from the Road’ video.
We then don the singlet and stubbies to visit Joe Schubert, proprietor of Sydney’s Always Moving and
Bow Tie Removals. Joe has been in the industry since he was 15 years old and has enjoyed a lengthy
relationship with the Isuzu brand over the years.
We also unveil details of our exciting new Truck of the Year grand prize for this year and bring you up to
date with the latest progress on our SBR heritage truck in Tech Torque.
On a sad note however, we have unfortunately lost one of our long standing and most respected Isuzu
Dealer Principals. Earlier this year Charlie Emanuele from Adelaide’s North East Isuzu, lost his battle
with cancer at the age of 66. But in true Charlie fashion he left on his own terms as you’ll see in our
tribute to him in IAL World.
Please enjoy the edition.

(l-r) National Sales Manager, Andrew Harbison and National Fleet Sales Manager, Les Spaltman.
IAL has recently strengthened its Sales
Department by developing a new National
Sales Manager position to better service its
customers and the Isuzu Dealer Network.
Stepping into the National Sales Manager role is
Andrew Harbison, who will now oversee both IAL’s
Dealer Sales and Fleet Sales teams.
Mr Harbison has 22 years’ automotive sales
experience most recently as IAL National Dealer
Sales Manager, a role he began in 2007. Prior to
this, he was IAL Queensland Zone Sales Manager.
According to Mr Harbison, the latest department
restructure will provide additional sales
opportunities for Isuzu while ensuring customers
receive even better support.
“IAL is constantly looking for ways to establish
best practice systems,” Mr Harbison said.
“While IAL will maintain a separate fleet team
and there continues to be a National Fleet Sales
Manager, from an operational and coordination
perspective it made good sense to have one
person ultimately responsible for all sales.
“This new structure will enhance and strengthen
the IAL sales team providing a more collaborative
approach with the Dealer Network.
“We’re confident that the new structure will work
well and better serve the requirements of Isuzu
customers – both retail and fleet – into the future.”

The National Fleet Sales role has been filled by
Les Spaltman, who was previously the New South
Wales zone Dealer Sales Manager.
Mr Spaltman has over 25 years’ automotive
experience, having sold several other brands prior

“I look forward to working closely with the Fleet
Sales team and forging strong relationships with our
fleet and government customers,” Mr Spaltman said.
“IAL is very dedicated to its customers’ needs and
I am excited to be involved in taking this to the
next level.”

Suttons Motors Arncliffe Customer Care
Specialist, Debbie Schofield, has been awarded
the 2012 Dealership Customer Care Award at
IAL’s recently-held Customer Care Conference.
This award recognises Dealership Customer Care
Specialists who provide excellent service, exceed
customer expectations and develop new and
efficient ways to solve customer service problems.
IAL Customer Care Manager, Kathryn Kreuzer,
said Debbie’s high work ethic has reflected the
Isuzu Care Philosophy and Mission in many ways.
“I would like to congratulate Debbie on winning
the award and thank her for going above and
beyond her role to make sure customer and sales
teams’ needs are met,” Kathryn said.
This is the second time Debbie has won this award.
In 2006 he took on responsibility for the
company’s newly-opened Port August
Dealership before returning to North East Isuzu,
Burton, in 2010 to assist Charlie in managing
this facility.

ISUZU N AND F SERIES
UPGRADES TARGET SAFETY AND COMFORT
www.isuzu.com.au
Light and medium duty truck buyers have even more reasons to purchase Isuzu’s
market-leading N and F Series following enhancements that bring new levels of
safety, driver comfort and entertainment features to the iconic nameplates.
6
new releases
A
s part of the range upgrade, Isuzu
has also introduced three new model
variants to the line-up: the passenger
car licence NLR 200 AMT Tipper, the
NPR 400 Tipper – both feature ready-to-work
tipping bodies – and the NPR 400 Crew.
These new additions mean that the N Series now
has Crew and Tipper variants available across
most of the range, and brings the total number of
models available to 58.
while an additional beam of light flows from the
cornering lamps casting light into the turning area
once the turn indicators are activated.
With the increasingly stringent OH&S requirements
in many corporate and government fleets, the
addition of an SRS passenger airbag in the F Series
(except for four-wheel-drive and CNG FSR models)
ensures that Isuzu remains a leader in safety.
TRUCKPOWER Autumn 2013
Safety
Other safety improvements include the adoption of
rear disc brakes to the NLR medium wheelbase and
all NNR models for even better braking performance.
A distinguishing external feature of the new N and
F Series ranges is cornering lamps, which have
been fitted for added safety to all models (except
FSS and FTS 4x4s).
Another minor but important safety enhancement
across the N Series range is the standard fitment
of a cab tilt warning lamp, to alert the operator if
the cabin is not properly secured after being tilted.
These are located in the same position as the
indicator repeater lamp on the side of the cab doors
on N Series along with FRR to FSR F Series models;
the taller cab design of FTR to FV models instead
sees the cornering lamps installed in the cab step.
Driver comfort
The cornering lamps are ideal when turning
into tight streets and driveways at night – the
headlights continue to illuminate to the front,
All new NPR, NQR and NPS standard cab models
are now fitted with Isuzu’s driver suspension
seat which has previously only been available in
Premium models.
The ISRI 6860 driver’s suspension seat remains
standard across all F Series models.
Isuzu has further added to the N and F Series’
car-like list of driver appointments with the
introduction of a Digital Audio Visual Entertainment
unit with DAB+.
The DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) – or digital
radio – allows access to a much wider choice
of stations and scrolling text to provide an
information summary of the music or program the
driver may be listening to.
The added benefit of the DAB is that there is no
need to tune-in to stations or change frequency
to keep listening to your favourite stations, the
radio automatically seeks and latches onto the
strongest signal.
The main visible change is a much bigger 6.2
inch touch screen providing full on-screen menus,
menu scrolling by finger drag and gyro motion
sensor for DVD control. The number of physical
buttons has also been reduced to just four, with
the entire major functions now controlled from the
touch screen.
As well as incorporating digital radio, the new
multimedia unit can now record music directly to
the internal solid state hard disk drive for future

playback and can display up to four cameras
– many of the system’s functions can also be
controlled using voice recognition.
The unit retains key features of the earlier system
including Bluetooth, iPod and MP3 compatibility,
USB inputs and front jack and steering wheel
remote control option.
Satellite navigation is available as an optional extra
and comes with three years of mapping updates
upon purchase.
A telematics option will shortly be made available for
the system providing fleet customers with the ability
to more closely track driver route progress and
general driving characteristics, amongst many other
features. See accompanying article ‘Focus on DAVE’.
General upgrades
To better accommodate fitment of specialised
bodies and the growing trend for increased use of
associated electrical equipment, an 80A alternator
positions in their respective market segments.
Another notable change across the light and
medium duty range is the addition of a CAN
connector which comes with a CANBOX standard
on F Series.
“Isuzu engineers have taken an already popular
model range and made it even better by building on
its many strengths and features,” Mr White said.
This device allows truck body builders to read the
CAN in European FMS standard format and better
integrate their control systems with the truck. It
also eliminates the need to cut the wiring to find
signals for information such as engine speed, park
brake on and transmission neutral.
Capping off the upgrades and lifting visual interior
appeal for N Series is a revised matt chrome finish
to door handles, power window toggles and meter
rings around the speedo and tacho.
All Isuzu N and F Series models (aside from CNG
variants) continue to be powered by the proven
SiTEC Series III EuroV (EEV)-compliant engines.
Comments from IAL
According to Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL) Product
Planning and Engineering Support Manager, Colin
White, the 2013 model year upgrades will assist to
further strengthen the N and F Series’ number one
“The broad model choice, coupled with innovative
technology and a long list of standard features,
makes the N and F Series particularly appealing for
just about any light and medium duty applications.”
Mr White said Isuzu’s evolutionary approach in the
latest upgrades would hold the manufacturer in
good stead.
“Consistent sales market leadership in the light and
medium duty markets over many years is evidence
that these ranges are already hitting a chord with
customers in terms of their specifications,” he said
“IAL is confident that the upgraded ranges will
continue to provide customers with the features
they want while also making it difficult for
competitors to match the total offering.”
www.isuzu.com.au
In other upgrades, NNR and NPR 200 models
benefit from an extra gear, going from five to six
speed in the manual transmission to match the
existing six-speed automated manual transmission.

a driver’s
best mate
T
he technology in trucks has increased
tremendously in recent years and it’s no
more evident than in the area of cabin
appointments. For those who spend
many hours a day driving or even people like
‘tradies’ who could travel shorter distances but
have been involved in physical labour all day,
it’s important that the driving environment is as
comfortable as possible.
The latest N and F Series ranges provide some
of the lowest NVH (noise, vibration, harshness)
levels in the Australian truck market coupled with
air suspension driver’s seats as standard on most
models. Entry and egress is made easy with 90
degree-opening doors and large grab handles, and
once inside the vision is excellent and the driving
controls are well laid out and easy-to-use.
This user-friendly overall package was recently
enhanced in 2013 model year trucks with the
introduction of Isuzu’s new Digital Audio Visual
Entertainment (DAVE) unit which takes in-cabin
convenience and entertainment to a new level.
At 6.2 inch the touch screen is one of the largest
available. DAVE is operated via just four buttons
with the remainder of the functions controlled
through full on-screen menus via the touch
screen.
TRUCKPOWER Autumn 2013
The DAVE unit features Digital Audio Broadcasting
plus (DAB+); jargon aside, this means the truck
will receive radio signals in the highest quality
possible, it also provides access to a much wider
choice of stations that tune automatically to
the strongest signal no matter where the truck
is travelling. The radio features 18 preset FM
and 12 preset AM channels and is fitted with an
Australian-specified long range tuner.
For those who like music, DAVE allows the
operator to ‘rip’ music or talkback directly to
onboard memory (8 gigabyte) for later access.
The unit is also fully iPod-compatible allowing
video replay or playlists to be viewed. Still in
entertainment mode, DAVE provides audio visual
playback be it DVD, CD, MP3 or WMA format. As
a safety feature video will not play when the truck
is in motion.
Entertainment aside, DAVE also needs to function
as a business tool making life easier for the
operator. The unit features Bluetooth Version 2.0
hands free and is compatible with the very latest
range of mobile phones. As part of this system
up to 1,000 contacts per paired phone can be
syncronised with the integrated Bluetooth kit.
Making a call is easy using the on screen touch
pad and microphone integrated into the unit’s
front panel. DAVE features voice dialing and
users can answer or reject phone calls using the
touchscreen and keeping things legal.
As an optional extra, owners can purchase satellite
navigation by Navteq. As well as listing 600,000
points of interest, 12.5 million addresses and
providing 100 per cent post code coverage, the sat
nav also provides road alerts such as speed and
red light cameras, accident black spots, school
zones and railway crossings and speed limits
including time of day dependencies. The sat nav
comes with three years of mapping from the date
of purchase.
Another optional extra and extremely useful
feature particularly for those operating in
metropolitan and urban environments is reversing
cameras. Up to four cameras can be specified and
vision from these can even be displayed on screen
all at once in a four-way split. The cameras are
even infra-red to enable night time viewing in low
light conditions.
DAVE can also be set up with a tyre monitoring
system (optional extra) that can show tyre
abnormalities and leaks on-screen for up to 36
tyres (including trailer). A telematics option will
shortly be made available for the system providing
fleet customers with the ability to more closely
track driver route progress and general driving
characteristics, amongst many other features.
Four reversing cameras for extra vision.
Easy to use voice dialling.
Synchronised phone contacts with integrated Bluetooth kit.
Audio visual playback in DVD, CD, MP3 or WMA
format (only operational when the truck is stationary).
These are just some of the many features of DAVE
– for a full demonstration please visit your local
Isuzu Dealer.
Fully iPod-compatible.

ISUZU MODELS
PASS 150 WITH
LATEST RELEASE
T
he release of three new model variants
as part of its 2013 model year N and
F Series upgrades has seen the Isuzu
truck range hit 154 models, the most
comprehensive range ever offered by IAL, and
easily providing the broadest truck model choice
in the Australian market.
In the light duty segment, Isuzu has 58 N Series on
offer; the selection is even greater for medium duty
applications with 64 F Series available.
The FX Series, which covers 10 model variants,
was recently joined by nine Isuzu twin steer
FY Series trucks, bridging the gap between the
standard F Series and the heavy duty Giga C and E
Series trucks of which 13 variants are available.
“Isuzu has been particularly successful over many
years at identifying niches in the market and
introducing models with specifications that go
hand-in-hand with customer requirements,” Mr
Taylor said.
“Our desire to fill as many gaps as possible in
the market has seen the Isuzu range expand
enormously and it now sits at 154 variants.
“Having a broad product range allows our
customers to grow their businesses while
maintaining their relationship with our brand,”
Mr Taylor said.
“Those who have had a good experience with
Isuzu will be more likely to choose Isuzu in another
weight category if circumstances in their business
change, while for prospective customers, the
chances are high that Isuzu will have a model to
suit their application.”
A number of additional Isuzu models have been
slated for release later this year.
www.isuzu.com.au
All up the product range sees Isuzu without peer
in the breadth of models it offers Australian truck
buyers, whether they require a car-licence readyto-work vehicle, a B-double capable prime mover,
or just about anything in between.
According to IAL Director and COO, Phil Taylor, a
broad product range is an important component
in keeping existing customers while it also helps
attract new ones.

Joe’s Isuzu truck fleet from the mid-eighties.
J
oe Schubert loves Isuzu trucks – his use
of Isuzus over almost three decades is
testament to this with the relationship
standing the test of time.
Joe’s fleet is fitted with custom-built furniture van
bodies which are specially designed to access
difficult areas including low clearances, tight narrow
laneways and sharp tight turns in small streets.
The New South Wales removalist fell into the work
at the ripe age of 15, often helping out in his father’s
furniture removal business by accompanying him on
jobs after hours and on weekends.
The bodies feature ramps and side doors for easy
access as well as timber floors and carpet walls to
protect the furniture.
Eventually, he began two of his own removalist
operations and now employs 10 staff located at a
depot in Matraville, in Sydney’s south.
Joe’s two companies, Always Moving and Bow
Tie Removals, rely on six Isuzu trucks to provide
a boutique removalist service for the Sydney
metropolitan area.
According to Joe, it’s all about the experience
and customer service a company provides that
leads to success.
“Furniture removal is in my blood, I can’t even
fathom doing anything else,” Joe said.
“I take pride in my trucks, I keep them clean and
tidy and I’m confident they can handle any type of
job that gets thrown at them.”
Joe’s current fleet comprises an FRR 600, NKR
200, NLR 200, NPR 200 and two NNR 200s.
TRUCKPOWER Autumn 2013
In the past, he has had an Isuzu SBR 422 and SCR
420 which he only sold a couple of years ago. Both
trucks did not disappoint during their run and Joe
praises Isuzu’s reliability in both old and new models.
“I have been using Isuzu trucks since 1985 when
I bought my first Isuzu SBR 422. It was so resilient
that I never had to change the brakes even though
it clocked over 200,000 kilometres,” Joe said.
“I try and acquire a combination of new and
second-hand Isuzus as I know I can trust them, no
matter how old the truck is.”
For loading heavier furniture, the NNR 200 and
NLR 200 trucks are installed with a large full
width walk up tailgate.
Joe said he likes Isuzus so much he won’t
consider buying any other truck brand.
“Isuzu trucks have exactly what we need for our
business as they can stand the wear and tear of
transporting different types of furniture over a long
period of time,” Joe said.
Joe has five drivers work across both of his
companies and happily drive the Isuzu trucks.
“I’ve been told the trucks are a joy to drive. The
cabins are very popular and the drivers love the
comfort that Isuzu offers,” he said.
“The fully integrated air conditioning and heater/
demister with 4-speed fan has been ideal to
combat all types of weather, all year round.”
According to Joe, when purchasing a truck,
service and support play a large role.
“We have a long history with Isuzu and I look
forward to continuing and strengthening that
relationship,” Joe said.
“If my father had the option of buying an Isuzu
truck for his business in the 60s, he would have
definitely jumped on board.”
Both companies include services such as
furniture protection, dismantling and assembly
of furniture, insurance, furniture placement and
packing materials.
For extra security, Joe uses a modular furniture
moving and storage system where all customer
goods are stored directly in the company’s
warehouse facility and are never opened until the
customer receives the goods at their new location.
The company prides itself in employing the latest
technology to service customers in the most
efficient way.
“As we control everything that comes into our
facility, customers can safely know there are no
corrosive chemicals, rodent attracting foodstuffs
or prohibited items being stored next to their
belongings.”
All vehicles are also equipped with satellite
tracking so that the company knows where the
truck and the customer’s belongings are 24-hours
a day.

A
s Australia’s largest independent
vending machines operator, with
500 machines in its South Australian
network alone, distributing and
restocking vending machines is a hard day’s work
for Benleigh Vending Systems.
Based in Wingfield, South Australia, Benleigh
Vending Systems provides its customers with free
vending machine solutions. There are no fees or
contracts for the supply of the machines; delivery
and installation is provided at no charge. In addition,
Benleigh Vending Systems refills the machines and
takes care of all maintenance for its customers.
Each machine can be adapted to suit the
customer’s needs, with a choice of confectionary,
savoury snacks, drinks, dairy products and
microwavable meals on offer.
To ensure its vending machines are always full
of fresh products, Benleigh Vending Systems
relies on a fleet of seven Isuzu NLR 200 trucks
to distribute a range of food and beverages to its
South Australian customers.
The trucks’ refrigerated van bodies are jampacked with items for the restocking runs to
Benleigh’s clients which include large industrial
companies, aged care facilities and hospitals.
According to Benleigh Vending Systems Director,
Daniel Bergineti, the refrigerated truck bodies
allow his team to deliver perishable products such
as milk, cheese and snacks in perfect condition.
“Aside from adding the truck bodies, we haven’t
made any modifications to the NLR 200s. They are
perfect the way they are,” Mr Bergineti said.
“The Isuzu trucks run from Seaford on the coast
south of Adelaide to Roseworthy to the north,
operating on roads presenting a range of different
driving conditions.
“The trucks haven’t missed a beat. We have recently
sold some Transit vans and have replaced them with
the Isuzu trucks we recently purchased. The drivers
all want to drive the Isuzu trucks, as they much
prefer them to the other vehicles in our fleet.”
Mr Bergineti said when the company purchased
the trucks they chose Isuzu because of a range
of factors.
“We compared the market and felt Isuzu offered
the best value for money. The reliability of the
Isuzu trucks was a big factor,” Mr Bergineti said.
“We had also heard positive feedback on other
Isuzu trucks through word of mouth.”
The Benleigh Vending Systems drivers have been
pleased with the trucks’ power, comfort and ease
of driving.
“The NLR 200 has a good turning circle for a truck
of its size. It completes a U-turn in an average
width street with half a metre to spare.”
Mr Bergineti said Benleigh Vending Systems’ Isuzu
trucks are still within warranty and are serviced
at the Adelaide Isuzu dealership where they were
purchased.
“We have been happy with the servicing and
maintenance provided by Adelaide Isuzu.”
Beginning operations 18 years ago, Benleigh
Vending Systems now employs 15 staff to service
its South Australian customers and additional
contractors to run its national operations. The
company continues to add to its South Australian
fleet of Isuzu trucks, with the most recent NLR 200
purchased in March.

our franchisees as we want them to operate in a
comfortable and productive environment,” Ian said.
“Our franchisees sell large amounts of stock and
we look for a truck model that can handle the
weight of the store without impending on the
drivability of the vehicle.
“The FRR 500 model is perfect for our needs and
its engine (SITEC Series III 205) has not let us
down, especially with its power output (151 kW @
2,600 RPM).
“We recently purchased six new FRR 500s for our
franchisees and they couldn’t be happier.”
The truck bodies are built by Empire Specialty
Vehicles located in Leichhardt, New South Wales,
with a standard outfit taking four weeks to build.
In order to meet the demands of the franchisees,
the trucks need to have many added features
such as holding shelves, air conditioning, lighting,
electronic generator, display cases, sales aids and
a multi-media system including TV.
The franchisee’s computer also has wireless internet to
provide up-to-date product information to customers
as well as maintaining their inventory management,
point of sale and stock ordering systems.
According to Ian, the main aim is to provide a mobile
retail environment where they can professionally

display their vast product range in an efficient and
informative manner. Customers can come in and
view products at ease when their franchisee makes
the weekly call into their workshop.
“Every inch of space is utilized to hold Snap-on
Tool’s product range,” Ian said.
“We have a trusted brand – right tools for the right
job and of course, the right truck.”
The truck body also has a lift gate for heavy lifting
of larger items like tool storage cabinets. Other
safety features include devices like an alarm
system and reversing cameras for getting in and
out of tight industrial sites and factories.
“The franchisees love to drive the FRR 500 because
of its easy maneuverability and the comfort provided
by the Isri air suspension driver’s seat,” Ian said.
“Isuzu’s quality is evident in the fit, feel and finish
of the truck.”

The performance and comfort of the Isuzu FRR
500 have been a hit, according to Ian.

IAL WORLD
Vale Charlie Emanuele
North East Isuzu Dealer Principal
In 1964 a man arrived in Australia on a boat. His name was Carmine (Charlie)
Emanuele; with him were a couple of suitcases but few other materials and
possessions. What Charlie did have though was a penchant for hard work
and the desire to make the most of opportunities in his adoptive country.
TRUCKPOWER Autumn 2013

Recently arrived in Australia. (l-r) Charlie with son Johnny, wife Lucy, brother Peter and parents Maria and Giovanni.
A
Charlie takes to the Bobcat during construction
of North East Isuzu’s Burton facility
ustralia was a world away from his
hometown of San Giorgio La Molara in
central Italy, a country that was struggling
to find its feet after the Second World War.
A foreign language, different landscape and culture
did not deter the 18-year-old and he soon took on all
manner of jobs that would help make ends meet.
In 1995 Charlie was approached by Isuzu-General
Motors (as known at the time) to represent Isuzu
Trucks in Adelaide. Charlie continued his good run
of sound business decisions signing up with the
market leader and promptly developing a vacant
site in Burton which he and Peter had purchased a
number of years earlier.
While most readers would know Charlie as the
successful Dealer Principal of South Australia’s
largest truck dealership, before reaching
this position he worked picking carrots, as a
groundskeeper and driving a truck for SAGASCO,
the South Australian gas company.
Charlie and Peter’s business flourished at Burton
with Peter handling fixed operations and Charlie
taking care of the front end – it was the same
successful formula.
And while SAGASCO was Charlie’s official employer,
he also assisted brother, Peter, mixing concrete and
plaster in the construction industry – there was
plenty of work around for those who wanted it.
It was during his time at SAGASCO that Charlie
bought his first car, fixed it up and then moved it
on. After several purchases and subsequent sales,
he discovered that he was quite a good salesman,
eventually coming onto the radar of consumer
affairs for selling too many cars from his home!
While Charlie no doubt cursed about not being able
to deal in cars in the manner he had been doing,
the visit from consumer affairs was perhaps a
blessing in disguise, as it lead him to get serious
about turning his hobby into a full time career.
Enlisting the help of Peter, in the mid-70s the pair
became licensed and purchased their first site in
the Adelaide suburb of Glynde – Charlie bought the
cars and Peter would prepare them for auction to
automotive dealers.
By the late 80s Charlie had identified another
opportunity and began buying the odd second-hand
truck. This started to happen more often and by the
early 1990s Charlie was selling more trucks than cars
and the brothers’ focus had shifted to used trucks.
Charlie’s visionary thinking and can-do attitude
can be seen when looking at the broad range of
products and services North East Isuzu has to offer.
New Isuzu truck sales, service and parts aside,
the business also includes a paint and panel shop,
a body and trailer building operation, a signage
service and trim shop, offering customers a
veritable one-stop-shop.
Prolific work life aside, Charlie also found much
time for his wife Lucy, four children and 11
grandchildren. And beyond giving so much to
his family and customers, he was a generous
benefactor to many charities, particularly those
assisting children with special needs.
His own man until the end, Charlie’s choice of transport
to take him to his final resting place was a speciallybuilt Isuzu Giga CXY 415 Premium. The customised
Giga featured gold grille and badge, a stunning red
paint scheme, polished alloy wheels with red wall
tyres, tinted windows and a unique body displaying the
Emanuele family crest. The truck was built, painted and
trimmed in Charlie’s own body building department.
Charlie will be dearly missed by his family, friends,
staff, business partners and customers but he will be
long remembered through his very strong legacy.
www.isuzu.com.au
With the business progressing well, in 1980 the
pair diversified after buying a car yard on North
East Road and began selling direct to the public;
some time later a second yard was acquired on
Main North Road. The brothers worked hard and
ultimately they were turning over a combined 150
used cars per month from both sites.
Although Charlie had become a very successful
businessman, he was still extremely humble and
didn’t shirk the continued hard work. He was often
the first one to work in the morning and it wasn’t
unusual for him to shut the gates in the evening.
He also valued his customers, knew them by name,
took their calls, phoned them back, listened to their
requirements and made every effort to meet their
needs – in short he treated them as he hoped to be
treated himself.

The Heritage Truck
project is progressing
nicely with the cab
paintwork and refreshed
engine now shining like
new as attention turns
to the cabin interior.
O
n the outside, evidence of the cab’s
years of wear and tear have disappeared
due to the hard work of Panel Beaters,
B and K Panels. Any hint of rust has
been dealt with and any dents and imperfections
have been lovingly massaged and sanded to reveal
a beautifully primed and painted cabin in classic
Isuzu white, thus achieving the original factory look.
After a polish and reassembly of the doors, the
cab was taken to Renix Auto Trimmers for interior
trimming. The trimming process included making
custom masonite backing boards to replicate the
cabin’s original trims, which were then overlaid
with a vinyl covering.
TRUCKPOWER Autumn 2013
Back at IAL’s product planning and engineering
workshop, the refreshed engine has also been
reinstalled onto the chassis in eager anticipation of
the cabin returning from the trimmers.
Stay tuned for another Heritage Truck update in the
next edition of Truck Power.
