About Us
Page 3
In just the past 2 years our full service A/E Design Team has completed projects totaling $25
million in construction cost.
Having recently completed the Architectural design and
Engineering services for the expansion of Hardin County Water District No. 2 in
Elizabethtown, as well as the Structural Engineering design for the new Swope Nissan
Dealership in Elizabethtown, ICON Engineering was just recently awarded the Structural
design for the two story expansion of the OSEC Facility at Hardin Memorial Hospital in
Elizabethtown. ICON Engineering is excited to continue to serve as a vital part of the growth
in our community through our full service Architectural, Structural and M/E/P design
services as well as providing services internationally. Considering that no two buildings are
ever the same,
the ICON A/E Design Team’s experience with ALL types of
construction, which has been in excess of $100 million, qualifies ICON Engineering as the
best choice for Architectural and Engineering design services regardless of the location. As with
any building, we want to design buildings that reflect the values and the character of
the community in which there are built.
Along with projects in our own community in 2012 our Project Portfolio consisted of projects in
Fort Stewart (Georgia), Redstone Arsenal (Alabama), Puerto Barrios (Belize), Punta Coco
(Panama) and Soto Cano Air Force Base (Honduras).
Our Architectural experience enables us to create new ideas for each project while the
refined science of engineering leads us to the most efficient solutions, resulting in
least material and least cost. ICON Engineering & Inspection Services, PLLC offers Architectural
and
Structural , Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Engineering as well as Project
Management Services. Our A/E Design Team specializes in Commercial, Churches, Heavy &
Light Industrial, Government/Military, Educational, Correctional & Medical Facilities.
Having provided services on many different types of projects, the ICON A/E Design Team
understands that each discipline is interrelated, therefore our multi-discipline team
assures efficient coordination and integration of services for the best overall solution to design
challenges. Of all our projects, we are most proud of the revitalization of a historic building
located in downtown Elizabethtown. This historic building now houses the ICON Office. We
achieved our goal of crafting a work space that inspires creative thinking and is welcoming.
Our office is a showcase of potentials for any work space.

this project.
17. Ford Louisville Assembly Plant Phosphate/E-coat Addition, Louisville, KY – This project included a 104,000
sf, $20 million dollar expansion to the existing facility. The structure consisted of a heavy-duty steel
structure bearing on caissons. Approximately 60,000 sf of this building was built on top of the existing
plant requiring extensive structural modifications. The balance of the facility expansion consisted of an
elevated structure which housed the Phosphate/E-coat process. I served as the lead structural engineer
and project manager for this project.
18. University of Louisville, Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, Louisville, KY – Structural engineering services for
a $60 million, 45,000 seat stadium, including facilities building and concourses.

was to study the feasibility of adding 5 floors to the existing 5 story reinforced concrete building. The
building was designed and constructed, in the early 70’s, using concrete frame and concrete pan joist
construction. Frame analysis/seismic analysis were performed on various options that included using a
steel structure to minimize the seismic impact on the existing building. The study found that the cost
Michael S. Childers, PE
and complication of upgrading this building, to meet the new seismic requirements of the IBC 2000,
made it impractical to construct. I served as the lead structural engineer for this study.
20. Churchill Downs, Louisville, KY – This project consisted of a $130 million dollar 484,800 sf

facility. I provided structural design of foundations and steel structure for this facility. The design
included complex horizontal and vertical curved steel.
27. Muhlenberg County Schools, Muhlenberg County, KY – Two new high schools (North & South)
designed and built in the 1988 to 1990 timeframe. I provided structural design of both facilities.
28. Cochran Elementary School, Louisville, KY – Provided structural engineering services for this new
urban elementary school located on the south side of downtown.
As noted above this is only a sample of the multitude of projects which I have had the pleasure of
engineering, supervising and managing over the past 25 years. On all projects I provided engineering as well
as construction administration/field coordination services. I have structural engineering experience in many
types of construction including: reinforced masonry, wood, structural steel, concrete, post tension concrete
