The Vancouver Island Marmot Recovery
Project needs your help locating marmots
that leave
their natural habitat. Marmots
typically
live on mountains in meadows
and talus
slides. If you see a marmot near
a town or road, or find a deceased marmot,
please report the sighting as soon as
possible
to:

What to report:
1. Location,
location, location!
GPS coordinates are great, or mark it on
Google Earth, Google maps, or on a
photocopied map. If you don’t have a GPS,
you can
describe the site using addresses,
crossroads, distances, landmarks, or
habitat type (eg. forest edge, rock pile etc).

● Shrill whistle

Many marmots have numbered silver ear
tags. If the marmot you see has ear tags, it
tells us who it might be.
3. Photos
Photos are very helpful! Send us any
photos you took of the marmot or area.
