At his Ascension, Jesus said to his apostles and he says to us,
“You are witnesses.”
How does my sharing in his death and resurrection in the
Mass encourage and strengthen me to share him with
others?

reminds us that we are not
there individually or alone but
rather together and even
bonded in a special way.
“Brothers and sisters, let us
acknowledge our sins, and so
prepare ourselves. . . .” “Pray,

sacrifice and yours may be
acceptable to God, the almighty Father.”
“Listen graciously to the
prayer of this family, whom
you have summoned before you. . . .”We are at Sunday Mass,
and we are not alone. And we are not just there, as if we had
happened to board the same bus together. We are gathered as
God’s family and the Body of Christ. We come not just for our
own personal spiritual benefit, as important as that might be,
but because we support each other on the journey to God. And
we must support each other because we do belong to the same
family.

Mszy Świętej nie jesteśmy sami. I nie gromadzimy się w
kościele, ot tak, jakby był to autobus, a my jego pasażerami.
Gromadzimy się jako jedna rodzina Boża i Ciało Chrystusa. I
nie przychodzimy na Mszę Świętą tylko dla czerpania własnych
korzyści duchowych, choć to też jest bardzo ważne, ale przychodzimy dlatego, że wspieramy się w drodze do Boga. I
musimy wspólnie się wspierać, gdyż należymy do tej samej
rodziny Bożej.

The Women's Centers of Greater Chicagoland is a not-for-profit organization, whose
purpose is to reach desperate young women with a message of hope and help. Many
young ladies and families are tempted to use abortion to solve the problem of an unexpected pregnancy--resulting in greater long term physical, emotional, and spiritual damage to the participants, as well as the death of the unborn child. At the Women's Center,

Welcome all participants to the Mothers Day for Y-Me 1 or 3 mile run/walk. This event supports those suffering from breast
cancer. For the last 9 years, we have walked on Mothers Day for Y-Me. As you might know, Y-Me closed its doors last summer,
however, we will continue to walk. This year all proceeds will go to Lutheran General’s Caldwell Breast Center and directly
benefit the various breast cancer patients undergoing treatment. For those unable to walk or run you are invited to the brunch (at
10am) and all donations are appreciated.

Registration for the 2013-2014 year will be taking place in May. Registration forms are being sent to those families currently in
the program. We ask that they be returned in May so that we can plan for the coming year. If you have a child who has not previously been in religious education at Saint Thecla, please contact the parish office for information and registration forms. A
copy of the Baptismal certificate is required for all new students. We are also in need of people willing to serve as catechists and
aides for the coming year. We ask you to consider becoming involved in this very important ministry. Without volunteers this

Kermit Gosnell and the Rest of Us

While they ignored it for months, many national media are now finally covering the murder trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, who for
decades operated an abortion clinic in Philadelphia that the local district attorney calls “a house of horrors.” Elective abortions
performed up to the last weeks of pregnancy, by untrained and unlicensed personnel, in filthy conditions that endangered women
– this is the barest outline of a 261-page grand jury report filled with horrific details. Among many other violations, Gosnell is
charged with causing a woman’s death from an overdose of sedatives, and murdering at least four children born alive during
attempted late-term abortions by “snipping” their spinal cords while they struggled to survive. He called this “ensuring fetal demise,” and according to his own staff he did it hundreds of times.
At this writing the verdict and sentence for Gosnell are still pending. But another blame game has already begun, as people ask:
What made someone like Kermit Gosnell possible?
Pro-abortion groups have a very creative but cynically dishonest answer: Blame it on pro-life Americans. People who oppose
abortion drove it “underground,” refused to “integrate” it into standard medical practice, and opposed public funding that would
have let women get free late-term abortions at safe and “reputable” clinics.
Abortion advocates’ attempt to transfer blame runs afoul of certain facts:
1. The claim about public funding was disproved over three decades ago. When federal funding of abortion was stopped in the
late 1970s, abortion advocates scoured the country looking for an increase in “unsafe” abortions – and instead found a reduction
in overall abortions and abortion complications.
2. The grand jury report on Gosnell squarely places blame on a series of pro-abortion administrations in Pennsylvania, which
after 1993 stopped inspecting abortion clinics because they felt such scrutiny could compromise easy “access” to abortion.
3. The grand jury also laid responsibility for Gosnell’s horrors at the door of the National Abortion Federation (NAF), trade association for “reputable” clinics, which had inspected his clinic and found numerous legal violations – but never reported them
to authorities. Gosnell actually worked one day a week at an NAF clinic in Delaware, which sent women to his Philadelphia site
for late-term abortions.
4. The “reputable” clinics harm women too. Midtown Hospital of Atlanta, largest abortion facility in Georgia, was an NAF
member that received referrals from Planned Parenthood. It was closed by a judge in 1998 due to what court documents call its
“shocking disregard” for women. During a five-week period last year, three women were hospitalized following abortions at a
single Planned Parenthood clinic in St. Louis.
5. When policy makers in various states have discovered terrible conditions like those at Gosnell’s clinic, they have tried to pass
new safety regulations – only to be vigorously opposed at every turn by powerful abortion advocacy groups, which have spent
millions of dollars to stop such safeguards and even have them declared unconstitutional. The same has happened when lawmakers try to protect live children who are partly or completely born during abortions.
In short, unlimited “access” to abortion has become an end in itself, trumping all other considerations. A movement that once
claimed to defend the rights of people who have been born no longer sees birth as the boundary that necessarily stops killing. An
industry that justified its existence in terms of women’s “health” is showing disregard for women’s lives. And an agenda that
claimed to embody “freedom of choice” for women now wants to force even pro-life women to assist in late-term abortions

Gosnell is an especially egregious case. But he is also the tip of the iceberg. He is a wake-up call on the abortion agenda in our
country, if enough Americans are open to hearing it.

Baptisms:
How to Become a Catholic:
1:00 p.m. on the First and Third Sunday of the month, (in
English), Second and Fourth Sunday of the month (in Polish)
Baptismal Prep Class:
Will be confirmed at time of Registration of the Baptism.
Please contact the Parish Office to arrange a Baptism.
Marriages:
The Pastoral Guidelines for Marriage
Preparation for the Archdiocese of Chicago ask that a minimum
of 4 months be set aside for personal preparation for marriage.
Couples should refrain from setting a firm date or making any
other arrangements until after they have met with a parish priest
or deacon to discuss marriage plans. Please note that Weddings
do not take place during Lent.
Adults or teenagers interested in receiving the Sacraments of
Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, or Eucharist) or those who
are interested in the Catholic Faith should call the Parish Office
for more information about the R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian
Initiation for Adults).
Homebound/Communion Visitations:
St. Thecla Church has several ministers of care who can
regularly take communion to those in need. Please call the
Parish Office to arrange for communion for yourself or
a homebound loved one.

Today we honor and extend our love to all MOMs!! We also remember with fondness our moms who
have died. Each year in May our St. Thecla first graders offer a special Mass with prayers a song and
coffee & cake afterward. The pictures from that Mass are below!
