We want to take this opportunity to remind our local readers that each month the full edition of The Communicator is placed on our website, www.CrandallCommunicator.com. This is a handy way to refer friends and relatives in other areas when there is a special article or event that you would like to share
with them. This would apply if you have a special announcement, such as an engagement or birth announcement, a special achievement, like a school or
civic award received by you, a friend or family member, or perhaps, just a recent item that you found especially interesting and would like to share.
Also on the website, you will find the mission statement of The Communicator, advertisement information, including pricing for different size ads and
other links we feel worthy of mentioning.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit www.CrandallCommunicator.com, we invite and encourage you to do so. The website contains a wealth of
information which answers many of the common questions our enquirers frequently ask.
Kacie Byford signs with TWU
5’11 Senior stand out Kacie Byford signed
a letter of intent to play basketball for Texas
Women’s University Thursday April 15 at 11:00
am at Crandall High School. Kacie’s outstanding senior leadership and productivity helped
lead the Lady Pirates to a District and Area
Championship culminating with a regional
tournament appearance. “Kacie has one of the
best work ethics and attitudes of any player I
have ever coached” said Coach Butler. “She
does all of the intangibles like rebounding, boxing out and playing defense every time she took
the court, and I look for her to become a very
strong player at TWU” added Butler. While
Kacie Byford, coaches and parents on signing day
at Crandall High, Kacie was named Defensive Player of
the Year, while also being named to the All District and
All Region basketball teams. While being an outstanding
athlete, Kacie is equally impressive in the classroom,
by being one of the top students in her class. “Kacie is a
very special young lady and is a great role model in every
walk of life; athletically, academically, and spiritually. I
love to see good things happen to good people and Kacie
Byford is a very good person”, added Butler. While Kacie
will be missed on the hardwoods and in the hallways of
CHS, we know she and her talents will be welcomed and
appreciated by everyone at Texas Women’s University.
Good luck Kacie. Your family, school and community are
all very proud of you!

Purifoy Photography opens in Crandall
Although officially open now, Purifoy Photography will be having a Grand Opening Celebration on
Monday May 10th, 2010. Principal Photographer,
Todd Purifoy (PPA - Professional Photographers
Association), most known for his work in the Texas/
Nashville Country Music scene, is opening a boutique
style photography studio in Crandall, TX. Unlike
some studios, the Purifoy's emphasis is on customer
service and individual attention when it comes to packaging and delivery. You will not
find pre-set packages involving prints and images you don't want or need. Boutique style
studios tailor sessions to individual customers. It is very much like an A La Carte approach to photography. Purifoy Photography offers unique alternatives to standard portrait
photography. Prints on metal, canvas, metallic inks, custom cards, custom albums, and
graphic design, and attention to detail are things you can expect to find that set Purifoy
Photography apart.
While most recognized for his live concert photography, there is certainly much more
to the Purifoy Photography services. Purifoy Photography is also equipped to do weddings, studio shots, Senior Portraits, Babies, Bridal Portraits, and anything else you may
be able to dream up. Purifoy Photography takes great pride in flexibility and creativity
and always welcomes new ideas.
As one of the most innovative and creative music photographers in the state, Todd made
his impact by capturing the sound on film. When viewing one of his photographs, you
can almost hear the music and feel the mood of the concert. Much like his portrait work,
Todd uses photos that express emotion and energy through stage lighting and capture the
personality of the artist or subject. Todd's work can regularly be seen in magazines, books,
album covers, and artist promotional materials around the country.
Purifoy Photography Studio is also home to Major 7th Entertainment and the TP Creative Group, a country music artist management/consulting group founded by Todd. As
a member of the Country Music Association, Todd's first client was hot newcomer Darren
Kozelsky, whose most recent album hit the shelves in the summer of 2009. From hitting
the road headed for Tennessee with his camera and management company to help promote
an artist, to working as Head of Photography for two Texas Music Magazines, Todd has
managed to keep a great attitude and personality. That same attitude and desire to please
is focused on Purifoy Photography Studios and serving the local communities.
Purifoy Photography welcomes everyone to come by and visit, and to be looking for
information on the Grand Opening event soon.
Crandall Class Reunion
Classes 1985-1989
On Saturday, May 29, you are invited to join in for the biggest and best Crandall
High School reunion ever, including five classes from our era!! If you graduated
from the class of 1985-1989, you definitely want to be there. This will be a private

'Outta the Blue.' Provided we have enough attendees, appetizers and band will be
included with the registration fee. Alcohol will be available! No children please.
Please pay the registration fee in advance.
The response has been so positive for the reunion that we would like to make
it a charitable one, as well. Any proceeds received above the cost of the reunion
will be donated to Jimmy Bradford (class of '87) and his wife, Julie, to help with
the medical expenses they have incurred for their baby, Joseph. Baby Joseph was
discharged recently from Children's ICU after his second surgery.

Crandall High School Tennis
Fearless Fitness through Martial Arts
The Crandall varsity tennis team recently competed in both district and
regional competitions. At
district, the Pirates did an
outstanding job, taking
third place as a team. Reid
Baker got 2nd place in
Boy's Singles, and James
Thompson and Chase
Wade got 2nd place in
Boy's Doubles, advancing
all three to the regional
competition. At regionals,
Reid Baker got 4th place,
CHS Tennis Team, including Coach Laura Houston (ctr.)
almost clenching a qualification for the state tournament. Also, James Thompson and Chase Wade got 5th
place. The tennis team closed with an exceptional season.
Everyone fundamentally has their own mental picture of what a martial artist
may look like. What is the first thing that comes to mind? Whatever the picture
in your mind, most would agree that a martial artist would be physically fit. They
train constantly and develop proper technique to use in their punches, flying kicks,
throws, weapons strikes, and blocks. The samurai of medieval Japan said that to
master a technique, you have to repeat is over two thousand times. The Martial
Artist has up to four thousand techniques in their bag of tricks. To master all of
those techniques you would need to do eight million repetitions! The average
street fight lasts three seconds to twenty minutes. By street fight, we mean any real
life encounter that would require some knowledge of self-defense to walk away
alive. These situations can be physically demanding. During such a situation your
adrenaline begins pumping and your oxygen consumption shoots through the roof.
Whatever the defensive situation may be, you need stamina to keep up. How do
you build up stamina to keep up with such situations? Many techniques are used
in martial art training to build up your stamina and endurance. The road map of
martial art training is riddled with ways to improve your mindset, flexibility, and
physical fitness. How you get there is up to you, but the dojo is always here to
help.

John's Journeys
by John Brooks, Pastor, Central Baptist Church
Throughout my life I have found myself to be a very impatient person. I like
the world we live in because it is an “instant” world. As I have grown, in many
ways so have the conveniences of life. Things that used to be done manually are
now done automatically. Cans were once opened by an opener that pierced the top
and then you twisted the lever with your thumb and index finger. Oh the luxury
of a can of sardines that came with its own key opener for convenience. Then
we got electric can openers and twist off tops. I remember once you opened the
lunch meat, you had to eat it in a hurry or it would spoil due to exposure to the
air. That white paper the butcher wrapped the lunch meat in was just not a good
protector. Now we have resealable packaging that keeps the food fresh. Someone
came up with complete meals in one container that you just pop in the oven for a
few minutes and eat. They call those TV dinners, because now instead of listening to the radio, we can watch television while we eat. Then someone else came
up with a microwave oven that reduced the minutes a TV dinner needs to cook to
just seconds. Unfortunately, all these conveniences have probably contributed to
the downfall of the physical well being of many American adults and children, but
we're not likely to want to go back to doing many things "the old fashioned way,"
no matter what. Again, it's an "instant" world and we love it!
We have automatic steering, automatic transmissions, automatic brakes and
automatic windows on our cars. All we need now is an automatic collision control
so we don’t run into each other on the roads. Our lawn mowers are gas or electric
and many of them even have starters instead of a pull cord. There are automatic
doors, electric toothbrushes, hand held hair dryers (or in my case, hand held head
warmers) electric blankets, climate controlled homes and indoor plumbing.
On top of all of these wonderful inventions to make life more convenient, we
have added the remote control to many of these ideas. It is possible to sit in a
vibrating recliner and control the TV, the lights, the ceiling fans, turn on the fire
place and start the car in the garage, and do it all with the push of a button.
But you know what? I am not a bit more patient now than I was before all
these wonderful accessories. As things get faster, I tend to desire them to be even
faster. All of this has caused me to be reminded of what Isaiah said in his book in
chapter 40, verse 31, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will
walk and not be faint.” Basically, Isaiah was saying that we should “hope” or
“trust” in the Lord and his promises. By trusting in the Lord, we will rise above
life’s distractions and are better prepared to hear when He speaks. I have decided
that I am going to spend more time trusting God’s promises and less time fretting
about life. Care to join me?
